I know I haven&#39;t been &quot;online&quot; here much lately.  But I have been a busy bee...living life, and buzzing around!&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I just wanted to throw out my new (yet actually been around awhile) other blog (site to come).  There really isn&#39;t much going on there now.  But I&#39;m touching base to invite some feedback.  &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The other site is all about inspiration.  We plan on offering it for free without even any ads--Because that is how we think it should be.  You can&#39;t put a price on inspiration.  Heck, most times it&#39;s free anyway, right?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;It will be stories, and so much more.  Oh yes, we have plans!  :)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So, for now, think about where &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class=&quot;Apple-style-span&quot; &gt;YOU&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; get inspiration from. And in this month, I&#39;ve been super busy, super excited, and super inspired. There is really SO much to write and so much to say. One of my goals since the move is to blog more.  :o)  And even though I&#39;m just now jumping back into it...I&#39;m looking forward to much more.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I could start out by telling you about my first impressions of the area. Or how exciting and scary a BIG move like this was for me. Or how I&#39;m getting into my real flow. Or tell you what I think about the bugs. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;But you know what? I think I&#39;ll leave you in suspense on all that for now.  &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Instead, I think I&#39;ll start by telling you about something I finally did last night.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;With many moves, the movers feel so accomplished when the last box is unpacked. Surprisingly, that&#39;s not what I&#39;m going to say. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;In all honesty, I&#39;ve really only unpacked two boxes. ONLY TWO!!  And if you know me...that might sound CRAZY! &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;It&#39;s strange. But getting into the flow for me lately has been really learning to relax into things. To chill. And so far, that has been my greatest challenge. (Try going from 5 Google Calendars to Uno...it&#39;s a different way of being!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Back to last night. What I finally did was this: I unpacked the suitcase I&#39;ve been living out of since Crystal&#39;s wedding back in June. I&#39;d wear the same clothes, wash them of course, and put them back in the suitcase. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I have my space almost set up. I have a comfy place to sleep that is SO peaceful. And now, my one suitcase of clothes has found it&#39;s home. And just that seemingly simple event helps me also feel more at home.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;And you know what? Home isn&#39;t so much a physical place. It&#39;s more about the place where you are with it. Where you are in your mind, where you are in the world...and just how comfortable you are with it &lt;strong&gt;all&lt;/strong&gt;. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Tonight I encourage to you explore just how comfortable you really are.  Not simply how comfortable your home is.  But how comfortable you are where you are &lt;strong&gt;right now&lt;/strong&gt;.  Where you are in your life...where you are in your heart...where you choose to plant yourself.  &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;How comfortable are you with yourself and all your choices in this moment?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I think taking my time on unpacking really shows that I felt at home here from day one. Even with everything still in a suitcase.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I&#39;m learning so much here. So much about myself it&#39;s going to be a journey just to share it on this blog.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Thanks to everyone that supported me in making this leap. I&#39;m sure you have had days when all you needed was a hug. Days where you didn&#39;t want anyone&#39;s advice, didn&#39;t want to talk about it, and just wanted someone to be there with a hug.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I just wanted to share some more on the Free Hug and how it started. Oh, and don&#39;t forget to hug you dad today! ;)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On how the hug campaign started from &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.freehugscampaign.com/&quot;&gt;http://www.freehugscampaign.com/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How it all started:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&#39;d been living in London when my world turned upside down and I&#39;d had to come home. By the time my plane landed back in Sydney, all I had left was a carry on bag full of clothes and a world of troubles. No one to welcome me back, no place to call home. I was a tourist in my hometown.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Standing there in the arrivals terminal, watching other passengers meeting their waiting friends and family, with open arms and smiling faces, hugging and laughing together, I wanted someone out there to be waiting for me. To be happy to see me. To smile at me. To hug me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So I got some cardboard and a marker and made a sign. I found the busiest pedestrian intersection in the city and held that sign aloft, with the words &quot;Free Hugs&quot; on both sides.And for 15 minutes, people just stared right through me. The first person who stopped, tapped me on the shoulder and told me how her dog had just died that morning. How that morning had been the one year anniversary of her only daughter dying in a car accident. How what she needed now, when she felt most alone in the world, was a hug. I got down on one knee, we put our arms around each other and when we parted, she was smiling.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Everyone has problems and for sure mine haven&#39;t compared. Can you believe it?  Then I have all next week to see friends, get packing, party...oh and did I mention PACKING?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It&#39;s amazing to think that soon enough I&#39;ll be heading to New Orleans to help open a yoga studio.  What a blessing!  I cannot begin to tell you just how cool it is to begin to really follow my dreams!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&#39;ve been so fortunate in this life to find what it seems I&#39;m most passionate about.  And I&#39;ve been fortunate enough to be teaching yoga part-time here in Raleigh for the last 6 years.  But even doing something part-time while working a &quot;job job&quot; can wear you thin at times. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Feeling the shift of my passion for teaching moving from the back burner as a profession to the front is so inspiring.  I can&#39;t even begin to explain how it feels at times.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BUT....I&#39;ll try to update the blog with how it all goes.  I feel as if I&#39;m in for an awesome journey.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thank you all for your support....and encouragement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My last class here in Raleigh is next Saturday. In class today was a fairly new yogini.  I believe she said it was her second class.  New to some asanas and brand new to my class, she did great the whole class keeping up with the flow and moving with everyone else.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We chanted &#39;Om&#39; at the beginning and the end of class this morning. The one at the end had a nice, smooth, deep quality to it. The energy was great!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After class, our new yogini friend came up to inquire about what we were chanting. She wasn&#39;t sure and hadn&#39;t done it before and wanted to learn.  She asked, &quot;Were we chanting &#39;home&#39;?&quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Although she seemed to miss the fact we were chanting another mantra, in many ways, she was spot on.  Om brings us home.  And in a sweet way, she helped us realize that indeed it is our practice that brings us home.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yoga helps bring us to center. It helps us become more grounded, more still even in the midst of our crazy, hectic lives. And if you&#39;re like me...you spend lots of time going from place to place. Sometimes it seems I&#39;m only home to sleep, especially in weeks like this last one. However, our practice travels with us. It&#39;s a way of bringing us home no matter where we are. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just this past week, as soon as I got to my hotel room while I was traveling with business, one of the first things I did was put my yoga mat out...facing the window. I took this pic on my last trip to Mexico. Oh...so sweet!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yesterday &amp; today my thoughts have been coming back to santosha, one of the niyamas. Typically you will find this translated to mean &#39;contentment&#39;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But what does it truly mean to be content? It sounds rather easy...but really, how often do you find yourself at a place of of contentment in your body, in your life, in your own mind? How often can you find your thoughts NOT racing to the next thing, or not worried about the future?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Seems in meditation this week a sense of peaceful contentment has been my experience. And realizing that peace makes me so much more aware of how other parts of my day are, well....to be completely honest, not so full of contentment.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many of us can find ourselves at times looking to the past, looking to the future, spending lots of energy trying to makes sure we get what we think we want, looking to improve our &#39;now&#39; experience. But really, in truth, doesn&#39;t all this serve to take us further away from the present?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you are honest and ask yourself when thoughts come up for you, you may find that lots of your anxiety and frustration comes from the past or the future. If you really examine these thoughts, you might discover, like I do, that in the present most of the time the past and my experiences in the past are not really there for me in that moment. It&#39;s the thoughts about the past that are! And if I find myself dwelling on the future, I remember to remember that I&#39;ve tried to make the future one way...and how did it turn out? The way it was going to anyway...with or without my effort. The control we have when it comes to our future experience is really limited. (Although our thinking minds would like to say WE have control!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How much time are you really present in your life?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And if you aren&#39;t in the present living your life, who is??&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All we really have control over are our thoughts and our reactions to them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Become your own detective!!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In class I&#39;ll say &quot;breathe&quot; or &quot;be aware of your breath&quot;. Truly these are hints to help bring folks back the present. And even on my own mat in my practice, I continue with these helpful hints to myself. And I think the more you examine your life, the more you can be your own guide to the gift that is the present.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, if you&#39;re up for it...take some time to consider this post. Ask yourself and honestly see the answer to the question &quot;How often are you truly present?&quot; and see what you see. Today I wanted to post my recommendations for yoga mats. As a teacher, I get lots of questions from students about mats. So, to my dear students &amp;amp; friends: here ya go!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I spent YEARS looking for just the right mat for my practice. I can&#39;t tell you the number of mats I bought &amp;amp; slid around on. And most yoga mats (the sticky kind) are made of PVC. On those mats, they would flatten when my hands/feet where on them so much, it was like not even having a mat.  Oh my poor hips in Dhanurasana!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After lots of different mats, I finally found my favorites. And, I gave away the mats I didn&#39;t like.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here are my top two:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1) &lt;strong&gt;Harmony Yoga Mats by Jade Yoga&lt;/strong&gt;. It was the first one I can say worked! The first one I didn&#39;t slip on.  I put my hands down, and they &lt;strong&gt;stay&lt;/strong&gt; there! This is the one I use when I teach. I use it when I teach simple because it&#39;s not as heavy as the Manduka mat below. Although, after much use, it&#39;s started to show some wear. I still don&#39;t care, I love this mat...and will buy others in the future. I like it because I don&#39;t slide, and it&#39;s rubber...so it has more cushion than my old mats. It feels better because it doesn&#39;t &quot;give&quot; as much.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;Costs&lt;/em&gt;: Around $50 retail&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2) &lt;strong&gt;The Manduka mat&lt;/strong&gt;, aka theTaj Mahal of yoga mats here: &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.amazon.com/Manduka-71-Inch-Yoga-Mat-Black/dp/B0000DZFXZ&quot;&gt;http://www.amazon.com/Manduka-71-Inch-Yoga-Mat-Black/dp/B0000DZFXZ&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;My take:&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; This mat is great! It&#39;s the one I recently purchased after hearing from MANY yoga teachers that this was THE mat to have. It&#39;s heavy though; it weighs almost 7 pounds!! Because of the weight, this one stays home on my floor for home practice. I don&#39;t slide, it&#39;s SUPER thick, and it&#39;s supposed to last forever. And from the ones I&#39;ve seen, I believe it will. Downside: you pay extra for the Taj Mahal of yoga mats. This one &lt;em&gt;costs&lt;/em&gt; almost $80. But, if you consider all the mats I&#39;ve bought, I&#39;m more than paid for it in awful mats!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, check them out &amp;amp; see what you think. The Harmony mat is now available in 3 thicknesses. :o) BOTH of these are better for the environment than the PVC mats. Since they last longer, they are less likely to end up in landfills. But yes, both of these are more expensive than the PVC mats. You pay for quality.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you decide you want a Harmony mat, I am set up to purchase these wholesale. If I can get an minimun order of 4 mats, I can get them cheaper than the retail price listed above.
