For introducing the working of Section Navigator, I am taking the examples as below. These will serve as the sample data. This will also highlight the intricacies of the Section Navigator. Also it will help you to set it up as per your needs.

1. Sections/Categories/Articles Considered are as per below table:

2. Now Let’s consider the following scenario.
For Sections, we want to include sections Health&Fitness, Business and Diseases&Illness.

For Categories we want to include: Alternative Medicine, Beauty, Cardio, Depression, Breast Cancer, Mesothelioma, Prostate Cancer categories from sections Health&Fitness and Diseases&Illness.
For Categories we want to exclude: Advertising, Enterpreneurs, Home Based Business,
Management from section Business.

For Articles we want to include:5 Indicators That You Have Bronchitis, Spa Facial Treatments can be Done at Home, Treatments For Metastatic Breast Cancer.
For Articles we want to exclude:High LDL Cholesterol Levels and Health Risks, Depression is Painful, Cross Promote Online For Maximum Profits, Top Seven Things to Look for When Choosing an MLM Opportunity, Top Seven Things to Look for When Choosing an MLM Opportunity One way to check what goes on while you are gone is Nanny Cam’s.
3. Our Section Navigator allows us to include or exclude any sections, categories or articles.
4. You can either include a set of sections or exclude it. You can’t include or exclude sections at the same time.(Not a possible scenario).
5. You can include categories for some sections and exclude categories from some other sections.
6. You can include articles for some sections/categories and exclude articles from some other sections/categories.
7. To include sections simply provide a comma separated list of Ids. To exclude sections simply provide a comma separated list of negative Ids. Negative is considered as exclusion.
8. To include categories simply provide a comma separated list of Ids. To exclude sections simply provide a comma separated list of negative Ids. Negative is considered as exclusion.
9. To include categories simply provide a comma separated list of Ids. To exclude sections simply provide a comma separated list of negative Ids. Negative is considered as exclusion.
10. For our present scenario, Sections will be mentioned as: 4,6,17. That means include only 4, 6 and 17 no. sections rest will not be considered. If you give -4,-6,-17 then these will be excluded and rest all of the sections will be included.
11. For our present scenario, Categories will be mentioned as:
117,118,119,120,85,88,91,-59,-63,-65,-66. That means include only 117,118,119,120,85,88 and 91 no. categories rest will not be considered for those sections 4 and 17. Categories -59,-63,-65 and -66 mean that these category Ids will be excluded from the list and rest all will be included for the section 6.
12. For our present scenario, Articles will be mentioned as:
3466,3179,1974,-2635,-3427,-4197,-4024,-3980. That means include only 3466,3179 and 1974.
Rest of the articles in that particular section/categories (4:::117,118) and (17:::85) will not be included. Articles -2635,-3427,-4197,-4024 and -3980 mean that these will be excluded from the list for those particular Section/Category Sets as (4:::119,120) and (6:::59,65).

13. The parameters sheet has been filled as per screen shots given above.
Let’s observe the result. First I show the screen shot without excluding anything:
Business: Categories=13, Articles=516
Health&Fitness: Categories=21, Articles=417
Diseases&Illness: Categories=11, Articles=79

Now, let’s fill only section values in the parameters and see what we see.

Now, let’s fill categories next but not articles. Let’s see what happens.

Business: Categories=9, Articles=254
Health&Fitness: Categories=4, Articles=85
Diseases&Illness: Categories=3, Articles=112
After paying attention, we come to know that we wanted. Business has now only 9 categories. 4 have
been excluded. Health&Fitness and Diseases&Illness have 4 and 3 categories resp.

Now, let’s fill out articles list as well and see what happens.

Business: Categories=9, Articles=254
Health&Fitness: Categories=4, Articles=5
Diseases&Illness: Categories=3, Articles=3
After paying attention, we come to know that we wanted. Business has now only 9 categories and full
articles because we specified nothing for Business Section.. 4 categories have been excluded.

Health&Fitness has now 5 articles because of inclusion and exclusion coming in effect. Rounded boxes
tell the story of inclusion. Diseases&Illness has 3 articles. We specified nothing for Mesothelioma, that
means include all. But its empty. No article is there. Still it was shown due to the option: “Show empty
categories=Yes.

The steps are as below:
1. Point mouse to the “Menus” item in top menu and click on your desired menu.
2. There you click on “New” button on the right side of top menu.
3. Then you are taken to “Select Menu Item Type”. Click on “sectionnavitatorpro” and then
click on “Default Layout” under “sectionnavigatorpro”. This is shown in below picture:

4. After this you’re taken back to the menu item naming. Name the menu item as of your liking.
5. Set the parameters as per your liking and you are done. Section Navigator is optimized to use the default values. But you have full control over what you can do and what you can’t.

Just point your mouse to “Components” in top menu and you see “sectionnavigatorpro” written in the
menu. This indicates that the component is installed. Further you click on that and you see basic
introduction to the Section Navigator. Just see the picture below:

And to check the version as below:

Here are the steps to installing the component:
1. Login to the admin panel.
2. Click on Extensions->Install/Uninstall. And You See as below:

3. Choose the desired file to install using Browse button.. E.g com_sectionnavigatorpro.zip. And
click on pload file & Install button.

4. After you finish the installation, you see the message “Install Component Success” message as

below:

5. To check the version you click on compoents and see as below:

Here are the steps to download free extensions:

1. First click on any free product icon. The sample image is shown as below.

2. Then click on “Add this to my cart” button as shown below:

a. Then click on checkbox. This helps to choose the products to be downloaded.

b. Then click on “go to checkout” button.

Both of these are illustrated as below as steps1 and step2.

4. Then click on “continue to checkout” button. The screenshot is shown below:

5. Then click on “confirm the order” button as shown below:

6. Then you are presented with the download button. Just click on the button as shown below:

7. Then you are given the choice to save or open the download file. Simply click on “Save file” option and press ok.

That’s all and you are done.
