Anyone have some good ideas on how to keep it updated? I've never been very good at using Twitter and I know I need to get better at it and soon.

Follow me @brightyoungmind -- I know, bummer it cuts off the last "s" but oh well. It is what it is.

So updates... Yesterday I went to a couple of garage sales and I found tons of great books for my preschool, a few chairs, toys, games and puzzles. I can't believe how very little I spent on so much. I should have taken a picture of the back of my van. It was full.

I also spent nearly an hour on the phone with a sale person trying to get me to buy some keyword search plan, which sounded really great and I do think it would help but they wanted $170 per month and I had to sign up for 6 months min. I'm only going to have 10 kids in my school. It seems like a lot of money to get 10 kids. Maybe if I was another kind of business or a much larger preschool, then it would make sense, but I just can't seem to justify the cost.

And lastly, not about my preschool... I have been feeling totally terrible lately. I've had a lot of drive to get the house the way I want it, to shop, to work on internet marketing and all of that. I'm not sure I've been eating very well or drinking enough, since I have to actually stop in order to take care of those needs. But it seems to me that I have been eating, about as much as always. Still, something is just off. I'm feeling a little light headed, especially when I first wake up. If I don't immediately come down to eat or get something to drink, then it gets even worse. But after I've had something to eat, I feel better.

A few weeks ago when my mom was visiting, we went on this walk (3 miles I believe) one day and it was really hot and we had no water. I got very dehydrated and seriously thought I was going to pass out. I'm thinking that my current issue might stem from that.

So, today I bought some yummy drinks, like SoBe (the Strawberry Daiquiri flavor is really yummy). If I have something portable and tastes good, I am better and drinking all day. I'm hoping that I will come out of this soon because I don't have time to be getting sick!!

No Summer Break for Me

I have been working nearly constantly at moving things around in the house so I can use one of my front rooms for my preschool. We converted that room to a media room last year, and now I'm trying to move all of that equipment and furniture upstairs to our extra bedroom. The one piece of furniture I am NOT moving is the entertainment center. It is just way too heavy.

When I'm not working on the house, I've been updating my website, creating flyers and creating business cards. I'm learning a lot about how all of the marketing works. It's really interesting and I'm doing my best to follow the suggestions I've been given.

For fun I've been shopping for things for my school. I've purchased a few large toys, lots of books, an area rug which is seriously cute and perfect for my theme, a few decorations and some of the boring things like crayons, colored pencils and paper. My mom and I made the picture frame when she was here visiting a few weeks ago. I'm planning to put my coat rack and cubbies directly underneath. Today I bought some adorable tables and chairs.
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; It's called Bright Young Minds and classes will be starting in September. It's a very exciting new endeavor I have taken on and I can hardly wait for opening day.

I went to school to become a teacher and after working in schools and daycares, somehow I lost my way. I enjoyed accounting but it just wasn't "clicking" with me or with my life anymore. After I left my job in September I found my way back to being the wife, mother and woman I want to be.

Then, out of no where and without even looking on my own, I came across a preschool curriculum that blew me away. It is exactly the kind of things I would want my own children to learn if they were preschool age again, the activities they would enjoy and included a marketing plan I felt would work. I spent the rest of that day reading as much information as I could find about this program. That night I told my husband all about it and had him go over some of the materials on the web as well.

I debated the idea of opening my own preschool for a little over a week, being cautious really and for no other reason, because there was no denying that I felt this was the right thing for me. I purchased the curriculum and as soon as it arrived I dove right into it.

I'm now well on my way to Open House next month. It's all coming together, maybe not easily in all aspects, but there is definite progression forward.

Please check out my website. I did not create my own graphics but I did put the site together myself. It was actually really hard to do. I figured since I have the blog(s), that a website would be easy. Well.... not so much. I'm really proud of how it turned out. The website is my biggest labor of love in this journey so far.

So here it is: http://www.brightyoungmindspreschool.com/

I am now the teacher I set out to be many years ago and I couldn't be more excited!

Wax on - Wax off

No, this isn't about the Karate Kid, though I really enjoyed the original and the second. Oh, how I had a crush on Ralph Macchio!

Actually, today I took part in another kind of waxing. Nothing nearly as exciting as watching a hot guy beat up another hot guy all in the name of love. This kind of waxing was much more like actually being beaten up.

Yes, you guess it. A bikini wax.

I had a bikini wax one time before. It was also painful which is why it's been several years since I have put myself through that again. Still, I can't deny that the lasting effects of the waxing are quite good and kind of make the pain of the actual waxing worth it. Kind of. I don't know. The jury is still out on that one.

However, I must say that it wasn't as painful today as it was the first time. Don't get me wrong. It still totally hurt. I mean, please. I had little hairs ripped out of a very sensitive area. Yet, it wasn't as painful as the first time. The wax was a lot less hot, which apparently means less adherence to the skin. The hairs are pulled but the skin isn't as much.

I was definitely red immediately afterward and felt sensitive but six hours later, the skin is back to the normal color. I do have the little red marks from the hair follicles that were a little bleedy immediately afterward and I'm glad I am not going swimming today. It's really not that attractive.

If you've never done this before but have thought about it, here are my suggestions:

1. Go to a reputable place. This is not the time to find the cheapest price! Reasonable price yes. The first time I went to a fancy spa, which charged in the higher range. Today, I went to the European Wax Center. I loved their facility and their prices were more reasonable.

2. Take an Advil or two about 15 minutes before you go. I didn't but kind of wish I had.

3. Right before they pull the wax, take a deep breath and blow out. It sort of gives you something else to think about and made it a little easier. I also heard the suggestion of bringing something to squeeze like a small stuffed animal or stress ball. I did the breathing thing and it did help.

4. Don't be fooled. It does hurt. If you think it won't hurt, it will most likely be a bad experience. But the pain is short lived and bearable.

5. Get the waxing done at least 24 hours before you will be going swimming. It's not too pretty immediately afterward.

I also had them do my eyebrows. I hate getting my eyebrows waxed. I swell up and am red and it's just miserable. However, today that was not the case. I was only a little pink, which was gone in about 30 minutes. I am very pleased with the results! Since I've had my eyebrows waxed many times I can for sure tell the difference and today was much better then any time I've gone in the past.

So, there was my "hairy" experience! Or maybe I should say hairless? Please, share yours.

Walmart Savings 6/2/10

I don't shop at Walmart with coupons very often. If I do it's to buy only a few items. However, I went to Pocket Your Dollars this morning and there were many items I use on the coupon match-up list. It seemed like a good use of my time to print coupons and cut coupons and create as many deals as I could.

Boy was it ever a good idea!

Total before coupons was $133 and change.

Total after coupons $50.88!

I saved $83!!!

You can too by visiting Pocket Your Dollars for her Walmart coupon match-ups.

I did buy a few items that did not have a coupon: milk, pickles and the two kid's toothpastes

Wordless Wednesday - 5/26/10

ROAR! Do you have a fetish? Shoes. I love to wear them, buy them, try them on, admire them…

2. Do you sing in the shower? I'm sure I have before, but not normally.

3. Who was your first crush? Casey, in kindergarten. We "kissed" on the bus when some kids dared us to. His mom was our bus driver! In first grade he bought me barrettes for Christmas and we had a play date at his house. We played cars.

4. What do you think is the best manly trait a guy could have? This has changed as I have gotten "older" and will probably change again as I reach new phases in life. Right now I find strength in spirit, mind and body very manly.

5. Do you sleep naked? No – My husband said "I wish" Sorry honey. I like my pj's.

6. What do you do when (you think) no one is looking? Pick my nose. I would NEVER do that if I thought someone was watching me. Not even my family members. Some things are meant for private.

7. What's the first thing you do when you go online? Check my email

8. Summer is.....?? VERY HOT in Texas with humidity that makes my hair a frizzy mess.

Coupon Miracle

Today I was at Wal-Mart for a regular, not couponing kind of trip, purchasing items to complete my pantry needs.

One of the items on my list was some foaming drain cleaner which I am hoping dissolves whatever is causing the foul smell coming from the pipes in the kitchen sink. I've tried every home remedy I can think of, so commercial drain cleaner was the next choice before hiring a plumber to replace the pipes. Okay, replacing the pipes isn't even a choice. My husband would never allow that. His suggestion would be to move. Somehow in his mind this is always the practical answer to household maintenance issues.

It just so happened that the drain cleaner had a coupon attached to the front. You know, the kind that you peel off at the register for an instant discount?

I placed the foaming drain cleaner into my basket and continued my trip. Which included an impulse purchase of ice cream sandwiches. And they were worth it!

Once at the register, I attempted to remove the coupon, only to find that it was soaking wet to the point that I was unable to peel it off without messing up the bar code. The top side was plastic but the under side was paper. I was a little bummed. So, it was only $.55 but still, to a couponer it felt like a huge failure as a woman knowing that if I had only picked up a different bottle I would not be faced with this problem. How could I purchase the foaming drain cleaner knowing that I would be wasting $.55?!

My solution was to place the coupon neatly back onto the bottle and hope that if I showed the cashier that there was a coupon, but it was wet, she would give me the discount anyway. Instead, the cashier pulled the coupon off, looked at it, shrugged and scanned it. AND IT WORKED! What do you know?!

Which left me thinking.

Why is it that when you are very excited about some major deal you are about to receive at the register, and have a perfect coupon, bar code in tact and not at all wet, the darn thing won't scan? Then you are given that dreaded look by the cashier who is convinced you are trying to rip them off by getting a $.60 discount on a box of cereal. Managers are called over. The people behind you are sighing loudly with disgust and you are hoping the transaction is over quickly so you can run out to the car as fast as possible and hope you never have that cashier again.

But, then you show up and purchase something you would have anyway, which just happens to have a coupon that is soaking wet and half the bar code is torn off, and it works?

Sometimes the laws of nature are so weird. But I got my $.55 discount. So, today, all is right.

Why I Blog

I know you all know about this blog, but did you know that I have other blogs? Yes, I do. I know other women have multiple blogs too, so it's not unusual. Plus I have Twitter, Facebook and Yahoo message groups. Each blog has it's own purpose so I'm not updating each of them every day. Well, I know you know that because I don't write here every day.

The real question is: Why do I have these various electronic venues?

Answer: Because I am lonely.

It seems like such a simple sentence but was really hard to say and maybe even to admit to myself. I actually feel good about myself. I have friends. I get out of the house sometimes. Still, I am lonely and I feel it on a regular basis. I crave social interaction and I don't get it very often. So I come to "blog land" in order to get some of that from all of you.

At times I feel like it's a bit of an obsession. A selfish obsession because the reason behind it is really all about me. I want to reach out to you, so that you will reach out to me. I visit as many blogs as I can, leave comments and then hope of all hopes that I get some response back.

I've had the privilege of making a few blog friends that have stuck with me during my blog absences and you have no idea how much it means to me to get an email or a comment out of blue, for no reason other than checking up on me. One in particular is If You Lived Here I'd Know Your Name. Everyone else, go and check out what's going on in her neck of the woods!

I also find it therapeutic and entertaining to read what other women have to say about all various topics. I've gotten wonderful tips on cleaning my house, organizing, new books to read, crafts I could make for my home, gifts to buy, who is having what sale, new recipes to try and coupon match ups. I've read funny stories about mothering, being a wife, and life in the office. I've heard rants on many different subjects. Some of you are having very difficult health issues and I am lifted up by your courage. What goes on in your lives becomes part of my day.

Please keep blogging and allowing me to be part of your world for a few minutes. I'm enjoying it and I am sure to let you know with a comment. Come to my blog and leave me a comment in return. It helps to ease my loneliness.

Because...

I blog in order to make friends who enjoy "blog land" as much as I do!!

Wordless Wednesday - 5/19/10

Is that Buddy Holly?

Getting To Know You

I decided to join this link up. If you were a bug, what kind would you be? A butterfly

4. Where on your body is the worst place to get sunburned? I'd think the bottom would be the worst. How could you ever sit down?

5. Are you happy? Yes, unless I'm not.

6. People are always abbreviating..are there any abbreviations that make your skin crawl when people use them? I don't like the abbreviation for Oh My Gosh because that is NOT what most people mean. The Lord's name gets mis-used and abused WAAAYYYYY too much.

7. Do you love where you live..or could you live anywhere? I could live anywhere. I've moved over 20 times in my life, so I'm used to change. But I really do love where I live now.

8. What, if any, extreme measures do you go to to keep yourself from overeating when you're full? I don't have this problem.

And now I have that song from The King and I stuck in my head! There are far too many accidents from distracted drivers talking or texting on their cell phones. No call or message is worth your life, or someone else's. Pull over and make the call or wait until you reach your destination.

Pass on this important message. This time in March. I know it's well past cliche to the point where you are all thinking, "So what." Except it NEVER snows here so to have snowed five times this winter is the weirdest year in Dallas weather history, seriously. But my husband and I made a really awesome snowman, even if I do say so myself. It melted in 24 hours.

I am an aunt again, to another darling little girl. My youngest son said "Mom. You always wanted a baby girl. Why don't you ask Angie (my sister) if you can keep her?"

I'm now the mom of four teenagers! Okay, a step-mom of two and bio-mom of two. I'm sure the grey hair is coming soon. The seven year old helps me to feel like I'm young. Thank goodness he is years away from being a teenager.

My husband and I installed wood floors in our front rooms over spring break. It was more work than I could have imagined! They turned out really great and I am quite proud of them.

I'm enjoying being home fulltime. It's been a huge blessing and I'm taking full advantage. I'm taking a pilates class once a week. I attend a religious class, studying the New Testament, one day a week. I've gone to the movies with my girlfriends several times to see the latest chick-flicks. I've been out to breakfast and lunch with friends. The house is getting much more organized and much to my husband's dismay, most of his collected junk is starting to make it into the trash where it belongs. I don't need computer parts from 1995 collecting dust. I'm in a bookclub and have read several good novels. None of which I would have chosen to read on my own. I've also been on field trips, had lunch with the seven year old at school, been to every soccer game, concert and event the kids have had planned. It's great!!

I've been given a new responsibility at church organizing the music for our women's group. I have found a lot of joy in doing this, in ways I never really thought I could. I do LOVE music and I probably haven't cultivated it enough over the years working as an accountant. I'm playing the piano almost every day and recently I picked up my flute and have started playing that as well. I even wrote my own little flute part to a song some of the ladies sang for a small group number.

Oh, and most importantly, my Farmville on Facebook is looking great! I take a lot of pride in my high producing crops and animals. They have made me millions.*grin*

Deja Vu

This morning I woke up to get my son to Seminary (our church early morning scripture study for high school students), and the snow was being poured from the sky. We already had two inches before 6:00am. It's really beautiful.

We checked the TV news and the internet but there was no word on any cancellations or delays of school and we didn't get any notice that Seminary was cancelled. So, we got into the car, cleaned off the windows and drove to the church.

After Seminary we checked the news again, and still no word on any delays or cancellations. So, off to school we went.

However, they are predicting more snow, rain and then freezing temperatures tonight and tomorrow. The kids might end up with an inch of ICE tomorrow and the desired snow day.

We already had snow this school year right? I would have given my right arm for a day to feel lazy when I was working, but for the last few weeks I haven't felt motived to do much of anything and I've been terribly lazy. I did get out and do some good grocery shopping, but other then that and driving kids around, I have sat at home.

Right now I have some family issues that are weighing heavily on me, and the anxiety of the unknown is part of the problem. I know for sure that is the reason for my small appetite, headaches and lack of sleep.

So, I need to get out of this funk. I have no control over what will happen with the family stuff and need to find a way to let it go enough to start living my life again. What do you do in order to get off the couch and back into life again? I'm open to suggestions.

$75 Budget w/o 1/11/10 - 1/17/10

I had a lot of fun shopping this week. I rarely shop at Walmart using coupons, since they make me a little crazy with their coupon policy, but I did it anyway, and thankfully had very little problems. My cashier was nice and pleasant which I truly appreciated.

And then I went to Kroger to stock up on some P&G items for their promotion going on, which continues this week (well for me anyway) until Tuesday.

So, while I didn't really do very well as far as not shopping for the month for the Eat from the Pantry Challenge, I didn't really buy much for this week's meals and did truly eat mostly from the pantry.

Totals:

Walmart $11.00 -- About 3 reusable bags worth, where the total would have been nearly $50 before coupons

Kroger $66.00

Tom Thumb $9.00

Tom Thumb $12.26

$98.26

Eat from the Pantry - Week 1

I did go shopping this week to stock up on some items and for lunch supplies for the kids. However, the breakfast and dinners I have made so far did not consist of anything from this weeks shopping.

Monday:

Breakfast - cereal and milk

Dinner - frozen prepared chicken and pasta dish, with added noodles mix in and frozen asparagus that I bought fresh some time back

Tuesday:

Breakfast - cereal and milk, and one child had toast which I did buy this week

Dinner - Mexican Rice with chicken and asparagus, the chicken, rice, tomatoes, salsa and green pepper were all from prior shopping trips and we ate the remaining asparagus from the bag I opened Monday

Wednesday:

Breakfast - bacon and eggs

I had frozen a second package of bacon from a buy one get one free deal in December, and I also used a buy one dozen eggs, get a second dozen free coupon just before Christmas so I still had eggs as well.

Dinner - Spaghetti and broccoli

I have noodles and sauce in the pantry, but the broccoli was fresh.

Thursday:

Breakfast - cereal and powered milk since I ran out and didn't get to the store for more. I buy powered milk from Country Cream, online. It's delicious and the kids can't tell the difference.

I'm not sure what we are having for dinner, but it will be something from the pantry since the kids are home from school today.

So far so good.

$75 Budget w/o 12/28/09 - 1/3/10

My husband and I were home alone most every day this past week so it didn't recquire much shopping to get us fed. I had plenty of ham leftover from Christmas and found several ways to use it. Still, by the end of the week I was really sick of it. My only shopping was to buy frozen pizza, milk and we took the kids out for tacos twice. I used coupons at Taco Bueno and kept that trip out to eat very small.

Totals:
WalMart $9.84
Taco Bueno $5.38
Taco Bell $10.00

$25.22
