The power of the network</title><description>&lt;div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFCC;"&gt;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;Wow... time flies when you're having fun!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I haven't posted an update since Indepedence Day... busy, busy, busy.  Our team has grown by a few members since then... duplication is happening.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Let's look to the future today... &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Because of the work we do today we have the power to touch the lives of people we haven't even met yet.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Do you ever think about things like this...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Somewhere, three years from now, there is a family that would have lost their home... if we hadn't started down this path.  We did... and through the power of the network they discovered this opportunity and realized their dreams.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Somewhere, five years from now,  there is a single mother who wouldn't know where her children's next meal is coming from...  if we hadn't started down this path.  We did... and through the power of the network she discovered this opportunity and realized her dreams.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Somewhere, two years from now, a sick child is suffering because his family can't afford the kind of medical attention he needs... if we hadn't started down this path.  We did... and through the power of the network that family discovered this opportunity and realized their dreams.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Sound silly?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Only to those who don't understand the power of the network.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I sometimes wonder if people in our business truly understand the power of what they hold in their hands. I marvel at the courage and strength demonstrated by the founders. But, here's something that might surprise you... there's something better... and far more powerful.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If you and I were ever to partner up I'd give it to you... and I'd expect it in return.  This freely given mutual exchange is so powerful it would &lt;b&gt;guarantee&lt;/b&gt; our success.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;What is it?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;COMMITMENT&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;A goal is the most you expect... a commitment is the least you'll do... without fail... no excuses. They react to external motivations 'in the moment' but soon lapse back into self doubt. Darnell is one of the top earners for a company called Pre-Paid Legal.  He's a great guy who knows his schtuff!&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#000066;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:large;"&gt;Private Business Reception&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That's what Darnell calls it... I just say "Let's do lunch."&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I contacted a friend who owns a very popular pizza place in town and asked if he had a private room suitable for holding a somewhat informal business meeting.  He said yes... &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He offers an excellent all you can eat buffet each week day from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  He let's us use the room for free in order to get the extra lunch business.  The buffet plus unlimited drinks and a tip for the waitress is 10 bucks... pretty good deal!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He also has a free wi-fi internet connection... that's important because we need to go online for part of our presentation.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#000066;"&gt;The Invitation... This couldn't be simpler&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;"Hey, Joe... are you free for lunch on Thursday? (sure)  Great... a friend of mine is hosting a private business reception over at (restaurant).  The food is great, we'll have a chance to network with other local business people and he's going to spend a few minutes presenting information about a new business tool that will get us more repeat and referral business.  If you're free I'd love to buy your lunch."&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Who doesn't want a free lunch?!?!?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That's the invitation we use because it fits the &lt;a href="http://www.homegreetingcardbusiness.info/"&gt;Send Out Cards&lt;/a&gt; business.  SOC is absolutely the best tool I've ever seen for promoting a small business.  Of course, you'll need to revise the wording to fit your business.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#000066;"&gt;Here's what we do...&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The format of the meeting is simple.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The first thing we tell everyone is to relax and enjoy the presentation because they won't be asked to sign anything, buy anything or join anything.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Next, we let them know that what we're going to show them represents what we feel is a solid business opportunity but, as we all know, every solid business is built on the foundation of a great product or service... so... let's take a look at that first.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;We have a laptop set up with a digital projector so we can show the whole thing on the wall... the room has a large white wall that makes a perfect projection screen.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;We then login to our SOC account and actually send a card to one of the guests.  This gets them involved with the product.  We always get lots of good questions during this phase of the presentation.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;When we're done sending the card we ask if they've seen something sufficiently interesting to know more about the company and business opportunity.  No one has said no yet...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;We then pop the company DVD into the laptop and let it play... it runs about 11 minutes.  When it's done playing we answer questions.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That's it!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;We've now been doing these luncheon meetings for 8 weeks.  I haven't kept track of the numbers because not all the guests were mine (we allow cross line SOC reps to use the meeting) but we've signed up nearly every person who has attended so far. This is where most people stumble... and quit before they ever really get started.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;For a variety of reasons many people are hesitant to contact and invite others to view a business presentation even though they are excited about it themsleves.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;After talking with many people about this through the years I believe the reason they hesitate is rooted in fear.  Not necessarily fear of rejection... although that is a factor for some... but fear of bungling the conversation and ruining the chance to gain a good prospect.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:large;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#000099;"&gt;Here's the solution...&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;There is a simple way to contact and invite someone to view a presentation that is effective nearly 100% of the time.  I was taught this method by a man I've known for more than 20 years... who is the #1 earner in his company with more than $1,000,000 (that's a million!) in annual residual income.  When someone like that teaches me something I pay attention... and I do it.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He said, "Terry, getting people to take a look at your business is as simple as saying the following three things... in any order."&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;1. I have something to show you&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;2. I need 15 minutes of your time&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;3. It may or may not be for you&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That's it... simple, right?   The key is to say all three phrases... in any order... but &lt;b&gt;say them exactly as written... don't improvise... just do it.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;After saying the three phrases suggest a time for the appointment.  ALWAYS offer two choices...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;"Will tomorrow evening work for you or would Thursday be better?"&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;They will either pick one of the two... OR... they may ask a question.  The question they're most likely to ask is... "what is it?"&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That's why you need to say the three phrases exactly as written.  You said... I have something to &lt;b&gt;SHOW&lt;/b&gt; you... so your response to that question is...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;"Joe/Mary, I'd love to be able to explain it on the phone but the truth is I really need to show you so it makes the most sense.  I'm not going to ask you to buy anything, sign anything or join anything.  We'll just talk about a few ideas and have a little fun. The truth is only PERFECT practice makes perfect.  If you practice the wrong things you'll become perfect at... the wrong things.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Confucious once said... "Knowledge without practice is useless.  Practice without knowledge is dangerous."&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The successful people you know in this business became successful because they learned what works effectively for them... and they did over and over and over again.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Knowledge + Practice = Success&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I occasionally like to use sports analogies to make a point... it's a fact that Pete Rose got more base hits than anyone who ever played Major League Baseball.  If you stood behind Rose and recorded his swing on video you'd see that he swung the bat in the same groove every time.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He didn't chase pitches that looked good... he was patient... he waited for the pitcher to throw one in his zone... when it came he pulled the trigger. These were custom designed cards created in our online system that specifically talked about a business opportunity.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Second, we set up the lead capture page for &lt;a href="http://www.homegreetingcardbusiness.info/"&gt;home greeting card business&lt;/a&gt;.  We'll be working on getting that ranked in the search engines and we'll drive traffic to it through various methods.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Third, set up this blog and posted to it every day.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Fourth, conducted our weekly business luncheon.  I'll talk more about that in a future post.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Fifth, set up free test drive accounts on our greeting card system for two prospects we first spoke with last week.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So... this week was spent doing several things we believe lay the groundwork for future positive results. Ken had a law degree but never chose to practice law.  Instead, he made a ton of money rescuing nearly broke car dealers from certain bankruptcy.  He was a turnaround specialist long before I ever heard that term associated with corporate America.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Ken had the ability to look at a problem... no matter how complex... and almost immediately cut through the noise and identify the simplist solution.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Here's what Ken told me...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;"There is no one deal that will ever make you or break you.  Never spend one moment in the middle of a presentation worrying about whether or not the person in front of you is going to say yes or no.  Your job is to present the facts.  The decision is all theirs."&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:large;"&gt;Your committment is to the process... never become emotionally attached to the outcome.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Some people call it posture but it's much more than that.  It's the supremely confident belief that what you're offering the prospect is infinitely more valuable than what you're asking them to give up in exchange.  It's not something you conjure up... it's something you walk and talk every day.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;When I sit down with a prospect I KNOW that what I have to offer is nothing short of absolute freedom.  Either the light comes on for them as they learn the facts or it doesn't.  Either way is truly okay with me... I can't force or beg people to make money.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The only thing you can be responsible for is making sure they have enough information to make a decision for the right reasons.  You don't want them to say no for the wrong reason and you sure don't want them to say yes for the wrong reason... that's worse than getting a no in the first place.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;But for that process to work effectively you have to convey the attitude... no... the truth... that your only interest at that moment is making sure they get the facts.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:large;"&gt;I've said this to prospects many times...&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;"Joe, my only obligation or responsibility here is to make sure you get enough facts about this business to make the decision that's right for you.  Don't think for one moment that I'm going to miss any meals if you say no... and I'm not going to get rich today if you say yes.   Joe, my point is this... there's not going to be any pressure to do anything.  The final decision is yours to make.  I'll respect that no matter what and we'll both be happy when it's done."&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If you said something like that.. with complete honesty... to your prospects before every presentation do you think they'd pay closer attention?  Do you think they'd see you as coming from a position of strength or a position of weakness?  Do you think if they paid closer attention they might see something they otherwise might have missed because their defenses were up?  Do you think that would result in more product sales or sign-ups?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I'll leave you to anwer those questions for yourself because... you see... my only obligation or responsibility here is to make sure you get the facts... your answers are your own... Dismal wouldn't begin to describe it.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Thankfully, my desire to succeed outlasted my youthful ignorance.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Let's get to it...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If you're experiencing 1/10th the failure I experienced early on take heart! If they don't have both they aren't a real prospect TODAY.  Keep them on your list... keep in touch from time to time... but don't waste time trying to convince them to look now.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Your presentation success rate will double or triple if you focus on talking to real prospects.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;Rule 2:&lt;/b&gt;  Lead with the business... justify with the product.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;This is so simple most people overlook it. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Look, retail customers are wonderful... every business needs them.  But they aren't going to get you where you want to go if where you want to go is time and money freedom.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;A home business based primarily on retail sales is really just a job with a shorter commute.  If you're going to achieve time and money freedom YOU NEED BUSINESS BUILDERS.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;A presentation to a business builder needs to focus on financial possibilities... BUT... every serious businessperson knows one thing for sure... every great business is made possible... and built on... a great product or service.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I start every presentation by saying the following...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;"Joe, I believe what I'm about to share with you is a truly great business opportunity.  It's the kind of opportunity that will enable you to enjoy the kind of time and money freedom you told me you're looking for.  But... before we get to the details of that I need to show you the basis of the opportunity... the actual product that makes it possible.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If, after understanding the product and how it works to improve people's lives, you don't agree that it's the basis for a solid business I won't waste any more of your time.  But, if you see what I saw the first time I looked at it I think we can do some great things together.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Fair enough?"&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;There you go... that's how you build a team and acquire customers with the same presentation.  &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Some will say no to both... some will say no to the business but become a customer for the product... some will become new team members.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Two of those three possibilities are positive... I like the odds.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;Rule 3:&lt;/b&gt;  Be brief.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Nobody cares how many square feet of office and warehouse space your company has.  Nobody cares about the awards your CEO has won or how many people work in the IT department at the home office.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I've heard all these things...and more... in presentations... as people in the audience nodded off.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Do this... ask short, to the point questions... then shut up and listen.  And really listen... don't be thinking about your next question.  Pay attention to what they're saying.  Their answers will lead you to your next question.  As John Fogg says... have a conversation.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;People love to talk about themselves and their hopes and dreams... let them.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:large;"&gt;What we'll do to get to the next level...&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;For now we'll continue working in our warm market... no matter what you've heard from those selling magic systems the warm market is, without question, the best place to be... bar none.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I'll get into that more in tomorrow's post...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Until then... let hope live! I'll reveal those in a moment but first a little info to lay the groundwork for why we do things the way we do...&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;In the &lt;a href="http://www.sendoutcards.com/59640"&gt;Send Out Cards&lt;/a&gt; compensation plan an individual may become a Retail or Wholesale Customer or may choose to build a &lt;a href="http://www.homegreetingcardbusines.info/"&gt;home greeting card business&lt;/a&gt; by becoming an Entrepreneur.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;We focus on finding those who have an interest in becoming business builders&lt;/b&gt; or, as SOC calls them, Entrepreneurs.   An Entrepreneur in the SOC plan is simply an independent Distributor.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Each Entrepreneur advances through the comp plan by building teams of people at each level.  The requirement to advance from one level to the next is as follows...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Build a team of 12 Entrepreneurs... with at least 3 personally sponsored.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Simple enough... build a team of 12 with at least 3 personals and advance to Manager... repeat the process and advance to Senior Manager... help others to build their teams and advance to Executive.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So... knowing that... our strategy is to sponsor 3 personals and work with them to build the rest of the team.   In fact, our committment to our personals is to work closely with each until they advance to Manager.  We could certainly sponsor all 12 personally but we prefer to place a priority on building depth as we progress.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I tell you this to stress &lt;b&gt;the importance of knowing how your compensation plan operates&lt;/b&gt;... and to further stress the importance of &lt;b&gt;devising a strategy &lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt;for maximizing and&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt; solidifying your position&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;Now for the numbers...&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;To date we have presented the opportunity to 5 people.   Three of them became Entrepreneurs (personally sponsored).  The other two became retail customers.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;We then worked with those three (Randy, Jim and Tim) to fill out the balance of the team requirement of 12.  Randy has sponsored 2, Jim 2 and Tim 5.   One of Tim's personals has also sponsored 1 new personal.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So... our first level team requirement has been fulfilled and we have advanced to Manager.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;So far, the numbers are fantastic... we've presented the opportunity to five people and all five chose to join us on some level... that's a 100% success rate!&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That's excellent... but we're not taking it too seriously and neither should you.   As I said in an earlier post I love to do the old school belly to belly style of prospecting and recruiting.  I also said I focus my attention on people from my pool of acquaintences who I believe are good prospects for this business.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So... I honestly expected these results... and got them.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;But... I also know that to build a large sustainable organization we'll have to get out of our immediate circle of influence eventually.   That's where we'll begin to compile more reliable numbers to plug into the formula I wrote about yesterday.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;By the way... giving credit where credit is due... &lt;b&gt;Tim gets all the credit for everything he's done&lt;/b&gt; so far. Further, let's say that you earn $50 each time you sell your product.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;A little quick cyphering tells us you'll need to sell your prodct 10 times to earn $500&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;$500 / $50 = 10&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The next thing we need to know is how many times you need to present your product to a prospect in order to make a sale... let's say that 1 out of every 4 people you talk to purchases your product so...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If you need to show 4 people in order to get one sale... and you need 10 sales to earn $500... you'll need to show 40 people to get 10 sales and earn that $500.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;40 / 4 = 10 x $50 = $500.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Still with me?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Good...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Let's now say that you want to earn that $500 each month.   Simple... let's say you have 20 working days during the month.   If you need to make 10 sales and you have 20 working days you'll need to make 1 sale every 2 days to earn $500 for the month.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Knowing that you have to show 4 people to make one sale we now know that you'll have to show 2 people each working day to make 1 sale every 2 days and earn that $500.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The key here is to focus on making those two presentations each working day.    Don't worry about the $500... if your numbers are right the $500 is automatic if you're making the required number of presentations each working day.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;The key is to focus on the daily activity knowing that the money will come automatically if you've been honest with yourself about the numbers.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;When you know your numbers you can set any goal and achieve it automatically by simply altering the daily activity&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So... the most important step in achieving any goal is to develop an honest set of numbers.   As you gain knowledge and experience your numbers will improve and so will your income... it's automatic.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;How do you develop an honest set of numbers?    Simple... get busy... start making those presentations... and keep track of the results.  After you've done 50 to 100 presentations you'll get an accurate picture of how your personal formula looks.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;Knowing your numbers will give you the peace of mind that comes from realizing that you can achieve anything... on purpose... no luck involved.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Speaking of peace of mind... take a look at today's video. I mention that so you won't think I've turned into a slacker already and skipped a day... It's just that my creative juices seem to flow more freely late at night... I'm a late night kinda guy.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Don't call me in the morning...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;As I said in the first post this blog is about our journey to the top of the Send Out Cards compensation plan.   At this moment we've earned our first promotion to Manager.  It's a long way to Eagle from here so stay tuned.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Our blueprint for building the business will include both online and offline marketing methods.  I personally enjoy the offline methods most... I'm kind of an old fashioned belly to belly marketer. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If I get someone to sit still long enough to hear a presentation it's a pretty sure bet that they'll join us in the business or become a customer for our service.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The key to that isn't that I'm such a great salesman or presenter... the key is that I'm very selective on who I will invest my time with.  I target what I believe are high probability prospects from the pool of my personal acquaintences.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;But... hey... it's a new day, right?  So... even though I love the old school ways I'm not blind to the enormous opportunities that come with modern technology so I've invested some time and effort into learning how to attract qualified prospects via the internet.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The first thing I've done is put up a lead capture site.  It's a simple one page site that contains a video explaining the business and inviting viewers to give us their name and phone number so we can set them up with a free account to test drive our system.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;After doing some keyword research I settled on a domain name for the site that matches a keyword phrase which gets a fair amount of searches and doesn't have a lot of competition.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Feel free to take a look at &lt;a href="http://www.homegreetingcardbusiness.info/"&gt;home greeting card business&lt;/a&gt; to get an idea of what I'm saying.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;We'll be doing several things to drive traffic to that site... as we do them you can read about them here. The #1 reason for failure is lack of skills...&lt;/b&gt; followed closely by the inability to make decisions and follow through.  If you're going to become successful at something you need to take the time to learn the skills that will be required to earn that success.  You must then have the discipline to apply those skills on a consistent daily basis.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;It's really that simple... &lt;b&gt;learn the skills.. apply them daily&lt;/b&gt;.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;2. Success happens on purpose.&lt;/b&gt;  It's not about luck.  It's not about being in the right place at the right time.  There are millions of people who were in the right place at the right time but weren't open to the opportunities surrounding them at that moment.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;When you have clearly defined objectives, unshakable belief and unwavering discipline wherever you are is the right place... whenever you're there is the right time.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;3. You earn success by providing value to others through service. &lt;/b&gt;  Zig Ziglar once said if you want to earn a fortune simply find a way to provide a fortune's worth of service to others.   &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That Ziglar guy is pretty smart...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;4.  Outside forces have no bearing on your success.&lt;/b&gt;  The economy sucks... so what?  Your friends and relatives think you're goofy for chasing these pipe dreams... so what?  Your upline support team all quit and joined another company... so what?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The point is if you're going to become successful you have to take responsibility for the outcome... PERIOD.  You'll encounter tons of challenges along the way... so what?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Success isn't about waiting for storms to pass... it's about learning how to dance in the rain.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;(I'd love to give credit to the person I swiped that from but I don't remember where I read it)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;5.  It's all about the choices you make. How that came to pass is a long story for another day but let me just tell you up front that when I decide to take on a project I don't settle for average... mediocrity isn't my game.  If you're gonna play I say &lt;b&gt;play to win or buy a ticket and watch the game from the bleachers&lt;/b&gt;.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;No middle ground there for me.  In or out... I don't care which but &lt;b&gt;make a decision&lt;/b&gt; and go with it.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Okay... so... Working Class Dog... what the heck does that mean?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;It's kinda the way I've always viewed myself.  The corporate world never held any fascination for me.  I've never asked... or expected... anyone to give me anything.  I was raised by a hard-nosed German Grandmother who impressed upon me early that whatever I wanted in life I was going to have to go out and get for myself.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Cut to the chase... I'm writing all this for two reasons.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;First, I tend to be kinda A.D.D. &lt;i&gt;( I've got so much creative junk rolling around in my head that I tend to get distracted easily if I don't do something to create focus for my efforts.)&lt;/i&gt;   That's the selfish motive for this blog.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I know it's here... I know you're all reading it... I will state my goals and commitments for all the world to see in subsequent posts... I don't want to be publically embarrassed by not achieving my objectives.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;In short... this is my way of having all of you hold my feet to the fire so I don't get off track.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Second... I've been in this industry a long time.  I've enjoyed the kind of success that most people are looking for when they join a company in this industry.   So... even though it may sound egotistical... I think many people can learn something about achieving success by figuratively looking over my shoulder as we build this business.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;b&gt;I'm going to give it all to you step by step... right here... for free... nothing to buy or join... just read along as I post daily.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Okay... this first post is long enough...
