For all our well wishers and critics, the Words and Beyond Club isn’t dissolving just as yet. We plan to continue thriving well into this year and the ones to come, organizing competitions successfully and continuing to spread the joy of reading and writing among the youth.

With Volume 1 of our magazine already published, distributed and widely appreciated by teachers and students alike, we are extending our territory to the Class IX batch of 2008-09.

This year, after recruiting members from Class IX we will continue to host competitions, have more enriching meetings and even come out with a wackier and more ingenious Volume 2 of our magazine!

I encourage all the old and new members, to continue to be involved and enthusiastic in all the activities of the club and cooperate to make it the most flourishing club in the history of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram.

This is to inform all the members and others, that the Words and Beyond Club's first magazine has been successfully published. Congratulations! To everyone who contributed and worked for it, and even those who didn't. We now have a magazine to our name!

The magazine will be distributed to every member and for extra copies for friends and enemies, kindly contact Ms M Sudeshna or Ms Udita Ganguly. Copies can also be found in the Sr. Library.

Are You Up to It??

This debate calls for erudition with eloquence, tact with talent, and conciseness with civility!

The debate, contrary to what was planned, will now be held on Tuesday, 11^th of December due to clashing dates for the Picnic. Inconvenience is regretted.

The topics, time and Venue shall be informed to each participant in person in school on Monday, 10th of December.

Rules & Regulations

1. The debate topics will be given the day before the event is to take place.

2. Two participants are invited from each section

3. Two sections will be paired randomly against each other.

4. Each face off lasts for five minutes. The two sections speak alternately. The debate will be open for interjection after each five minute session.

Note: Cutting-off impolitely or using foul language leads to disqualification.

Dear members,
As you hopefully know, we are in the process of compiling our magazine. The magazine is planned to be titled decipher.write.share., our tagline. Alternatives are welcome.
We have already received numerous articles but there are members who still haven't contributed.
We want our first publication to have atleast one article from each member, which was the objective of the club. To showcase your work.
The magazine is in its last stages of compilation and the last date to submit opinions, poems, fiction etc. is 21st Nov. i.e. Wednesday. It is preferred that the articles be sent over the weekend to wordsandbeyond@gmail.com.

Kindly consider this urgent as once the magazine is published, there's nothing you can do if you hadn't contributed.
All the poems being sent are copyrighted, so don't hesitate in sending your poems or stories.

We're back!

Now that our mid- term exams are over, the Words and Beyond Club is back in action! We intend to bring out our club magazine by early December with contributions exclusively from the members. For those who needed a platform to showcase any of their works, essays, poems etc. this is the chance!
After an Interaction with Mrs. Chona, she has offered to fund all the expenses of the magazine and she expects a quality publication from the Words and Beyond Club.
This is an opportunity to take the club to greater heights and establish this Club as one different from the rest, one that is here to stay…

I sincerely hope everyone is contributing for our magazine. Kindly do not hesitate to contribute poems etc. which you hold in great esteem as we plan to copyright the authors’ works.

Some other things have to be attended to which were initially planned to be informed in the regular Club meeting. It has been decided that the discussion topics shall be enumerated here for members to read. Kindly leave your suggestions and comments.

We plan to have at least one event every month to keep our club active. Each member is allowed to host an event as organizer following a procedure. Proposals are welcome which will be evaluated and taken forward.
- The proposed date, target audience, theme of event and other details that you think are relevant should be given to me in writing in school, or mailed to wordsandbeyond@gmail.com.
- In order that a schedule of events is prepared in advance, kindly send in your proposals before 25th of October, specifying the month you are ready to organize the event in.
- The organizer(s) can be a single member or a maximum of 3 members.

We want every member to participate and contribute to the activities and working of the club. Please cooperate.

The Harry Potter written quiz is scheduled for Thursday, 16th August from which we will qualify the top 5 teams for the final round. The Final Duel is planned for 21st August, Tuesday.

The ultimate quest for the Harry Potter freak!

The Words and Beyond Club is organizing a Harry Potter Quiz for all students of class IX.

The written test will take place on Thursday, the 16th of August and the Final Round will be held on Tuesday, the 21st of August.

A team of two kids from each section will be allowed to participate, of which 5 teams will be short listed for the Final round which will be oral.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.You are expected to bring your own pen/ pencil, rubber etc for the written quiz.

2. The questions will be based on the text from the BOOKS ONLY and will in no way be associated to the movie series.

3. The questions will be from book 1 to 7 of the Harry Potter Series.

4. Kindly make sure that not more than one member of the Words and Beyond Club is part of any team.

Any team not abiding by the rules will be disqualified.

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows

Here's a review on the much- hyped last sequel to the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.The book that we were all waiting for.The long-awaited ending to Harry Potter,boy wizard's epic adventure.The book about which rave reviews were printed(and previews,if you count the one which came out before the official release). And yet,I feel strangely let down.

Sure, there's lots of action and excitement, and the content is brilliant-a fine conclusion to this bestselling series.
But it seems that Rowling's skill in the art of writing deserted her, at some points in the book.
Take the stay at the Burrow, for instance. Was there any reason to drag it on so?There was hardly anything of much importance there.The same goes for the wedding.
And come to think of that, even her sense of humor was pretty much in hibernation throughout the book. The JKR I know would have definitely made the wedding a lot less touchy-feely and cliched.

Moreover, I think a lot of the book was movie-dictated. Oh,Radcliffe and Watson have to kiss at least once- let's make them snog in the locket scene (even if it wasn't real).
And let's not feature Ginny much, Wright isn't exactly the most beautiful creature on earth. And speaking of Ginny, her character was so badly written! Where's the fiery Ginny whom we all know and love?! Why is she sitting there like a garden gnome, doing nothing more than flashing Harry 'radiant smiles'? Why did she not fight?! Even if Rowling didn't want to show her much, she could still have said she fought!

Then there's Voldemort and Harry. Personally, I think dear old Voldy is a complete rip-off on Hitler-all that stuff about pure-blood superiority and Muggle/Muggleborn killing-it's like the 'creation of a superior race' nonsense and the killing of Jews and the disabled. And Harry's 'death' reminds me of the story of Christ's resurrection.

Oh, and don't even mention the epilogue. 'Albus Severus'? The child shall be tormented ! 'James'? 'Lily'? 'Rose'? Be a little imaginative, please. Is this the Rowling who gave the names 'Hermione', 'Ginevra', 'Sirius' and 'Dumbledore'?

Not to mention, the epilogue was, again, touchy-feely. Only towards the climax did I really think the book was good. The climax was genius, real Rowling style-well written, intelligent, nail-biting, heartstring-tugging.
It was the only section of the book I really loved. And the characters of Ron and Snape were very well-written.
If only the rest of the book had been written the same way. . . and the really sad thing is, we all know that Rowling is capable of writing that well.

Overall, though, it was a good read. I suppose the only thing wrong was that it did not meet expectations.
But at least I can rate it as better than say, 'Princess Diaries'.

Minutes of the Meeting

The meeting was held on 3rd August, 2007, during the break in Block C- 03.
It was presided over by the President, Sobhagya Jose.

The 20- minute preliminary meeting, dominated by bad jokes, hilarious comments and 10 minutes of restrained seriousness, was in essence for acquainting with the rest of the club members.
After clearing the aims and objectives of the club, there was a round of introduction, done by each member present.
The diversity in the club was apparent, with varied interests like writing philosophical poems to comedy to hardcore science- fiction to Harry Potter fanatics!

The aims and objectives discussed were, briefly:

To organize competitions relating to prose, poetry, books, writing etc. at all levels, starting with intersection for class IX
To have group discussions on varied subjects like the latest sequel, the most hyped author, how to write better, book suggestions etc. during the club meetings
To decipher, write, share (our punch line) to publish a compilation in the form of a three- monthly journal.

Queries raised by the members during the discussion, for which suggestions or solutions are welcome are:

Should members of the club be admitted to take part in competitions organized by the same, and if so, should they be given valid certificates
What should be the name of our journal, which will be compiled with members’ inputs
How should we communicate with other members regarding upcoming events on a nearly daily basis

Words and Beyond

Words and Beyond is a club started for the voracious reader and ingenious writer. Started with the intention of deciphering and using the language, it hopes to bring back the passion for reading, writing and exploring.

It aims at encouraging and helping writers to write better and others to uncover the mysteries of the language.

We’ll be organizing wacky and inventive competitions like crosswords, quizzes and others based on writing prose and poetry and books.

Discussions will be held among the members during meetings, on the latest literary delight to the craziest author on the block.

If you think you know exactly what we’re talking about, join the crowd!

To be a member, simply fill up the application form, and submit it to the undersigned or your teacher.
