If I thought it would do any good I’d sign the petition, but on reviewing the success of American Apparel’s (bordering on pornographic), marketing tactics over the years, I don’t think it would do any good. People need to stop buying the stuff in order for petitions to work and it just hasn’t happened here. Won’t happen. Throwing up a petition…easy. The root of the problem it is more difficult to tackle, and not nearly as fun to write about. Sex sells. More often than not anything which denigrates women, or represents women with body parts, sells. That is the problem. Solve that and you won’t have to worry about hundreds of young women rushing to expose their junk in hopes of becoming America’s Next Top Buttock, you won’t have to worry about signing sad little petitions either.

There’s no doubt this contest is disturbing on many levels, the most disturbing being that I probably wouldn’t object to participating in this contest if my winning it meant that say…everyone in the world would have clean drinking water, vaccinations and vitamins.

Wonderland or Not.

No one wanted to leave the bar. Chances of anyone getting back out this weekend were slim. Staving off the much feared “cabin fever” we lingered. The goal, to delay wall climbing due to temporary insanity of a forced weekend at home. Inevitably we had to leave. Walking, almost blinded to home, on streets which, when you could see them through the sideways falling snow, were impassable, unmarked by tire tread, snow plows nowhere in sight. The walk was more of a trek, almost dangerous (if anything of this world I live in can be called dangerous), a wonderful last hurrah before a blizzard forced incarceration.

Once home I had much to do.

Fill the bathtub and sinks with water. Check for working flashlights and dig out the candles. Charge cell phone, lap top. Check on everyone I know and don’t know, and answer all text messages and emails from concerned family and friends. Food, water, alcohol. Sacrifice something to the goddess of electricity in exchange for a weekend without a power loss. Still working on that one.

Wonderland or Not.

I fell on both hands, but the wrists seemed alright directly after the fall. About an hour later I realized something was wrong with my one wrist. I stayed a couple hours anyway, but on the way home I had to stop at the ER. Fortunately they now have a “you are not sick just slightly broken” section for people with minor injuries, and those people (of which I was one) get out sooner, or we are supposed to. It was 4 hours and that is considered a short stay. I had a closed reduction and application of a soft cast/splint. I am supposed to wear an arm sling for a couple of says to keep the swelling down. I see the orthopedic surgeon again on Tuesday morning. He will either hard cast it or not. I am banking on him leaving it, or putting a new soft cast on it. It doesn’t feel bad right now.

I know fracturing a wrist in the parking lot of a ski resort doesn’t make me Shaun White, but it was a good title. I’m not sure why they are making such a big thing about his chin injury, it really isn’t that big a deal considering what often happens on those boards.

I just got an email from one of my aunts, the one who went fundie many years ago. She has a winter home in Florida and is currently attending seminars in Miami on adopting Haitian children while sending emails to the family on the progress of the seminars. I think their church is like some space ship that goes around sucking in children from all over the world. I will have to see how this goes before I pass judgment on this situation.
