Lingerie, the word brings into our minds, outfits that can leave us breathless and those which are very necessary if you want to show how interesting you can be to your partner. Originated from the Mediterranean, lingerie started as inner wear in earlier 19th century have gone a long way in becoming the apparel that has caught everyone’s fancy. As an inner wear, lingerie includes corsets, underwear, bras, petticoats, slips, camisoles, stockings, etc.

Lingerie is not worn just for intimacy, sometimes lingerie can be really comfortable, in fact there are so many women who wear lingerie just for relaxation. After a hectic day of wearing tight fitting clothes, lingerie can make you feel in the heaven. Lingerie makers have known this need for women to feel comfortable, so they have been creating garments from silk and satin. This type of lingerie is not just classy; it is also very comfortable for wear.

There are two different classes of lingerie for women. One style enhances what women already have. Another style hides what women don’t want to have. Bustiers and corsets can fit in both classes. Corsets have a slimming effect, making the waist appear smaller and curvier. Bustiers push up the breasts, enhancing and forming the bust.

Bras are a type of women’s lingerie, although they have been so mainstreamed as to be a normal addition to most women’s closets. Bras can serve many functions. They support women with bigger busts, aiding in back support. They can pull up drooping breasts, and enhance with gel and other fillers. With a pair of matching panties, bras can also attract. Then there are g-strings, thongs, backless panties and fishnet stockings with leather that gives a sexy look.

Women’s lingerie was originally made from silk and satin. It represented sexuality and comfort. Now lingerie is made of a lot of different fabrics, each with its own meaning. Leather lingerie denotes danger and carries with it a rebellious attitude. Velvet lingerie is soft and exotic. Cotton is for modern women who dislike frilly, sassy clothing. Lycra, a relative of spandex, is used for a sporty, tight-fitting look.

It is no secret that women like lingerie. While men often like to see women wearing lingerie, women enjoy even more wearing lingerie. Good lingerie can make a woman feel sexy, no matter what she is wearing on the outside. Inside, she knows that she is wearing sexy lingerie and it gives her confidence. The feeling of sexy confidence is just one reason why women like lingerie.

Over the centuries, women have used lingerie in many different ways. Corsets were in fashion up until about 60 years ago and women would bind themselves into corsets to get what used to be called an hourglass figure. It was desirable, in the early part of the 20th century, for women to have small waists. For this reason, girls were often put into corsets at a young age so that their waists would not get large. It was uncomfortable, unhealthy and restricting to say the least. Nowadays, women like lingerie for the way it feels on their skin as well as the way it makes them feel about themselves.

Lingerie is still used to improve what are often seen as flaws in the figure of a woman. Women will wear control type panties if they wish to flatten their stomach and buttocks. Women with small chests will wear push up bras or padded bras to give them more cleavage and allow their clothing to look better on them. In the mirror, a woman will examine herself in lingerie and like what she sees as she will often purchase products that will enhance her figure and hide her flaws.

In addition to being figure flattering, lingerie will make someone feel sexy. It is normal for a woman to wear sexy undergarments or nightgowns when going to bed to try to evoke passion in her mate. A woman uses lingerie to invoke the sense of sight when arranging for a romantic evening with her partner. She will often wear enticing lingerie that she knows will arouse him.

The feeling of such fabrics as silks and satin on bare skin is pleasing to most women and this is yet another reason why women like lingerie. Good lingerie uses quality fabrics, such as silk, that feels good against the skin. There is much lingerie in the silk line that make a woman feel comfortable as well as sexy.

Even women who are single and without a significant other in their lives revel in lingerie. It is not only used to arouse a mate, but also as a confidence builder for any woman. A woman wearing sexy lingerie likes the way she looks in the mirror and knows that she will be desired. Just because a woman is single is no reason to give up wearing sexy lingerie. With the confidence that she gains by feeling good about herself on the inside, she will not be single long unless she chooses to be.

Fine fabrics, ribbons and laces have been coveted over the centuries by women who generally like to have feminine, pretty things. Many women enjoy the sensuality of just being a woman. They enjoy painting their nails, wearing make up, wearing certain scents and lotions and wearing feminine style clothing. In addition, women like lingerie because it makes them feel more like a woman in every way. It is not only, if purchased properly, used to enhance the figure, but also to make a woman feel more like a woman.

Each day, most women work hard the same way as men do. Many women work today in fields that were strictly only for men 30 years ago. It is nice for a woman who works in such a field to remind herself every once in a while that she is a woman. Although she may be wearing a hardhat and jeans, if underneath she is wearing a lacy camisole, she will feel very much like a woman. It is probably for this reason the most why women like lingerie.

Chemise: A short, straight nightgown, light and soft.

Teddy: Imagine wearing a loose-fitting bathing suit with frills and lace.

Baby Doll: A particular style of lingerie. This was invented in a 1950’s movie of the same name. It is a very short nightgown that accentuates the bust. It stops just above the hips and usually comes with panties. The fabric floats away from the body, while it clasps around the bust.

Kimonos and negligees: These are not lingerie, per se, but can be worn over top of it. For women who chill easily in the shorter pieces, this can make the difference between whether they wear lingerie or not.

Among the different choices for materials are:

* Mesh: Leave something to the imagination with a sheer mesh material. Still feel like you’re covered, but naughty enough for a peek here and there.

* Silk: The ultimate in pampering, silk feels so good next to your skin and men can’t resist it either.

* Satin: The look and feel of silk, but much cheaper and easier to care for.

* Lace: For the ultimate in elegance and femininity, lace is a timeless classic.

* Chiffon: Light, airy, and oh-so-glamorous. Bring out the diva in yourself with sexy lingerie of chiffon.

Most modern lingerie on the market today is available in a wide range of fabrics that are much easier to care for than was once made. However, we still need to give a little extra attention to all of our undergarments, if we want them to remain in good condition for a reasonable amount of time. Many manufacturers’ garment tags do state the garment can be washed and dried in a machine but many garment tags still insist lingerie should be handwashed only. And although it is certainly more convenient to throw a load of clothes in the washing machine before leaving for work in the morning, a washing machine can do serious damage to a delicate lace trimmed camisole while it is agitating a load of clothes for a thorough cleaning cycle.

Unfortunately, most of us are very busy people with full schedules that do not allow for the luxury of handwashing. The good news is we have several convenient alternatives to choose from. Modern washing machines normally have a “delicate” cycle alternative that will not be quite as harsh on the more delicate lace trims of your lingerie. If you combine your delicate cycle with cold water and a detergent meant for delicates such as Woolite or Dreft you should have no difficulties with repeated washings of any lingerie.

Another alternative is to use your washing machine as a soak basin by filling it up with cold water and a delicates-friendly detergent, letting it soak for 30 minutes or so, then simply releasing the water out manually by skipping the other cycles of your machine. Then refill the machine with clear water and let soak another 30 minutes, then repeat the letting out process. This should allow a wash/rinse that will suffice for most normal use but certainly will not be very effective in serious stains or odors.

The best alternative to safely clean your lingerie without handwashing is to use a lingerie bag for your delicates. These bags are inexpensive, readily available at most department stores, and are made of a durable mesh that will take the abuse of the washing machine’s twisting while protecting your lingerie safely inside. We would recommend using 1 bag per garment to avoid tangles. Simply place your item inside the lingerie bag, zip it up and toss it into a washing machine filled with cold water and a mild detergent.

Worried about the dryer? An especially good idea is to hang dry instead of using the dryer as dryers can be unpredictable in their heat distribution and you must remember that scorching a fine silk will permanently destroy the garment beyond repair. However, if you prefer using your dryer, leave the item in its lingerie bag during the drying process and use the lowest possible heat setting you have available. If your lingerie is made of a sheer fabric such as chiffon than no heat is really required to dry the garment. Simply use the air fluff feature to “blow-dry” your lingerie dry as it tumbles safely in the lingerie bag.

Eventually you will come across a tag that states the evil “dry cleaning only” recommendation and we certainly do not wish to dismiss this recommendation as somebody must know what they are talking about for the manufacturer to put that on the tag. However, it must also be recognized that lingerie is a very personal item that you may not always want to take to the local dry cleaning store. Fortunately for us, today we have products such as Dryell that imitate the dry cleaning products right in our own home. These products are effective, inexpensive and easy to use.

While we must recommend you always check the manufacturer’s label before washing, drying or dry cleaning any item for their fabric specific recommendations we hope these few suggestions will help extend the life of your lingerie and help you to care for it stress free.

Is it really a good idea to wear a sports bra when working out? Does it make any difference? Recent research indicates that up to 56% of women experience breast pain when exercising. This is caused by excessive movement of the breasts, which as well as being uncomfortable can be embarrassing. If you play sports or exercise and don`t have extra support, you will put yourself at risk of of causing damage to ligaments in the breasts. Damageing the ligaments in the breasts can cause premature sagging.

Breast movement can be difficult to control, as the breast does not contain strong structural support. The main supporting structures of the breasts are the Cooper’s ligaments. With secondary support only from the skin, these can easily be stretched if repeatedly loaded, as happens during physical exercise or playing sports. It is therefore important to reduce breast movement to limit breast pain and stretching of the Ligaments. Sports bras are designed to provide support to women’s breasts and minimize breast movement while exercising or playing sports. An Australian study tested a sport bra`s fashion bra`s, a crop top and bare breasted and found that the sports bra reduced pain and vertical movement by 50% compared to bare breasted exercise. The crop top and fashion bra reduced vertical movement and perceived pain but only by the half the amount of the sports bra.

Research suggests to reduce pain and motion of the breasts when exercising, all females should wear a well-fitting sports bra.Whether you are an A or a DD cup, you need good support to avoid discomfort and injury. Unlike muscles which can repair themselves, breast tissue are made up of Cooper’s ligaments which, when unsupported during exercise, can stretch and lead to irreversible breast sag.Consider your sports bra just like you would a pair of running shoes essential to help you perform your best.

Most discussions regarding bras center on getting the best possible fit. While a good fit is vital, one shouldn’t overlook the material bras are made of. Most women will find certain materials are more comfortable than others.

The traditional bra was something just short of tank armor. Although cotton was the stated material, most bras were so rigid and formed that they felt more like two small coffins. Bra design has obviously come a long way since those days. Modern bras are highly flexible, “breathe” and can be tailored to specific body configurations.

One of the key areas of development with modern bras is the material used. Cotton is still the bell weather material, but there are a variety of different fibers used to create different looks and levels of comfort. Let’s take a look at some of the materials you might consider when buying your next bra.

Microfiber

Microfiber is the piece de resistance in modern bra materials. As the name suggests, the material is a combination of fibers wound together. The fibers and weave are so small as to be nearly impossible to see with the naked eye. That being said, microfiber is a wonder material because it can be tailored to many different goals. For instance, the material is often used in sports bras because it can be oriented to allow for whickering and evaporation of sweat away from the body. You know the value of this if you exercise a lot or go outside on hot days.

Silk

Okay, everyone knows about silk as a general clothing material, but it also makes an excellent bra as well. Silk provides a light and airy feel, but it is actually a very good insulator. This makes it an excellent material for cool nights, the fall and winter wear. The sheer element of the material also lets you double your basic bra as a piece of lingerie should the moment strike.

Rayon

Rayon bras tend to be on the cheaper side. As with most things, you get what you pay for with rayon. The material is not particularly uncomfortable, but the elements of the bra that incorporate rayon will not last. The material is infamous for losing its shape and wrinkling heavily after only a few uses. In general, Rayon should be avoided where possible.

There are many other materials that can go into a bra, but cotton, microfiber, silk and rayon are very common. Try experimenting with different materials when buying bras. You’ll find that certain ones are very comfortable and can make wearing a bra a much better experience.
