GCSE Results 2011 - Another Outstanding Year of Results

100% 5 C+ GRADES INCLUDING ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS & SCIENCE

Fantastic GCSE results have delighted pupils, teachers and parents at Red House School, following the high standards attained in 2010, with Red House coming 1st from the entire database of Great Britain's schools in the Sunday Times 'Parent Power' league tables*.

Hard work by pupils and staff resulted in outstanding 2011 GCSE results with 100% of all pupils gaining 5 C+ grades (including English and Mathematics). In addition:

82% of pupils received grades at A*, A & B

57% of pupils received grades at A*-A

97% of all grades were grade C and above

Red House continues to lead the way in Science and Maths with 100% of pupils receiving A* and A grades in physics, chemistry and geology, and an incredible 98% of pupils achieving A*-B grades in Mathematics, a phenomenal achievement.

Elation by pupils and staff was hard to hide as Red House GCSE results continue to reflect the high standards of achievement by pupils in their examinations.

Of particular note are top performing students, Ali Ijaz, who received 11 A* grades, and brother and sister, Alexander and Harriet Gannon who both achieved 10 A*-A grades.

Headmaster, Mr Alex Taylor commented, "I am delighted that the pupils' enthusiasm, commitment and hard work has been rewarded by a thoroughly outstanding set of results across the board. A thorough well done to all involved"

Cleveland Brewery, Stillington and the Vane Arms, Long Newton have got together to present an evening of tasting of free beers, all helped along with free nibbles. This is all happening from 7pm on Tuesday, 7th June. All regulars, guests, friends and especially those new to beer are welcome.

Simon Gillespie, of Cleveland Brewery is testing his new recipe for Cleveland Gold, at 4.2%, "a hoppy beer with a zesty citrus finish". In addition, there will also be his new blonde beer, at 3.9%, which he describes as being "pale and fruity". And Simon is looking for a name for this new blonde beer, so thinking caps on!

And for those who fancy something a little stronger, Simon will be bringing along a Barley Wine at 9%.

Jill Jackson, licensee at the Vane Arms is providing some nibbles for everybody. In addition, there will be the Vane Arm's usual selection of beers, including Black Sheep Bitter and four other interesting guest beers, though these will not be free of charge!

Overall, there will be a full range of differing beer styles, for you to come along and sample, and see what you like best.

The Governors of Red House School, Norton, are delighted to announce the planned re-location of the existing award winning co-educational independent school to a purpose built 22-acre site at Wynyard Estates in Teesside.

Since its foundation in 1929, Red House School has become synonymous with teaching and sporting excellence with a formidable academic record, backed up by its present No.1 in Great Britain position in the Sunday Times Parent Power league tables. In order to facilitate demand for places by parents and accommodate an increasing school roll, the School expects to move to its new site at Wynyard Estate by September 2013.

Following an agreement to purchase the new site with land owners Cameron Hall Developments Ltd., Red House plans to move forward with the development of a brand new school benefiting from state of the art teaching and sports facilities. However, its relocation and increase in size will not change its overall ethos of providing a caring, safe and warm teaching environment with an emphasis on small class sizes, discipline and academic excellence.

Having outgrown its existing site at Norton Green, it is proposed that the relocation of the school at the heart of the growing Wynyard residential development will provide an academic facility that is beyond parallel in the Teesside region. Expansion of the school will also result in new teaching/non-teaching positions thereby generating new employment opportunities in the area.

Chairman of the Governors, Vinay Bedi, commented, "This is a hugely exciting moment in the history of the School. Red House School will continue to maintain its tremendous academic and sporting record, complimented by new state of the art facilities. We believe that this new facility and location will be the standard bearer of independent education in Teesside for many years to come and we already have strong indications of the levels of demand we can expect from prospective parents."

It is envisaged that the relocation and expansion of the school to this highly accessible site near the A19 will create a flag ship academic establishment with purpose built facilities and the addition of a sixth form college, allowing pupils the opportunity to take advantage of a first class education from the age of 2 to 19.

Headmaster, Alex Taylor, commented, "It has been my long held belief that Red House School should provide a complete and rounded education for our pupils from nursery through to, and including, sixth form. These facilities will enable us to do that and I am particularly excited that we will now be able to offer a top class sixth form in order to continue the Schools already excellent academic record."

The Portable Antiquities Scheme in the North East - Masses of data and shiny objects!

The Portable Antiquities Scheme records archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales. Every year thousands of objects are discovered, many of these by metal-detector users, but also by people whilst out walking, gardening or going about their daily work. Such discoveries offer an important source for understanding our past. This talk will examine some of the wider distribution patterns of Prehistoric to the Post-Medieval period finds across the North East and discuss what these tell us about past activity in the area. Some of the more spectacular finds will be discussed in more detail! Presented by Frances McIntosh; PAS Finds Liaison Officer.

To be held in Grindon Parish Hall, Thorpe Thewles, on Friday 17th June 2011 at 7pm for 7:30pm until approximately 9pm. Tickets available at £3 each from Carlton Post Office or any member of the History History Group. Alternatively contact Linda or Mark on Tel: (01740) 630014.

Wynyard having gained promotion mid week played Northallerton away on Sunday.
Having played 3 games in a week and some players involved in school matches as well it was a bit of a disjointed Wynyard team which turned up this week.
Northallerton forced into fielding an under strength side proved to be no push over and what they lacked in numbers they made up for in effort and commitment.

It was only 2 minutes into the game when Wynyard were caught half asleep dwelling on the ball on the edge of the area. Brown for Northallerton snatched the ball from the Wynyard defence and clear through on goal picked his spot to lead 1.0.

Thompson on the halfway line picked out Fox's run down the left and a good pass had Fox 1 on 1 with the goalie coolly shooting past the keeper to level at 1.1.

Oliver running down the right hit a low cross into the box which Northallerton only cleared to the edge of the area. Manning making ground from midfield collected the loose ball and dropping his shoulder past the defender shooting home to go in front 2.1.

Thompson on the halfway line again, hit a high ball out to Oliver on the right hand corner of the box who's header was just over. The resulting goal kick went out for a throw in allowing Abbott to launch the ball right in front of goal which Raybould edged in from close range 3.1.

A nice passing move saw Abbott pick out Oliver's run down the right wing who crossed through a group of players to find Raybould at the far post with a tap in for 4.1.

Wynyard caught pushing out from the back failed to deal with a ball played through the middle beyond the back 4 allowing Northallerton 1 on 1 against the keeper. Henderson was off his line in a flash to make a brave save at the feet of the forward and was just as fast to let his team mates know what he thought of them.

Williams made a nice pass to Raybould in the box who hit the ball first time forcing the keeper into a good save down to his right. Moments later Williams again challenging for the ball in the area takes the full force of the clearance against his hand going off injured with what proved to be a fractured wrist and unlucky to be out for probably the last 2 games. GET WELL SOON ZACK !

Manning collecting the ball on the edge of the box and still with work to do showed good skill to turn and twist past 2 defenders then shooting low past the keeper to finish the half at 5.1.

Wynyard pushed up right from the start of the second half and it wasn't long before Wynyard scored again. Dowson on the left showed good feet to turn the defender twice then shooting with his left foot to make it 6.1.

Oliver running down the right picked out Manning on the edge of the box who judged his shot well to lob the keeper from the 18 yard line for his hat trick and 7.1.
Minutes later Northallerton were quick to pounce on a miss timed tackle from the Wynyard defence with Burnside making no mistake to fire the ball in from the edge of the box 7.2.

With Wynyard compressing Northallerton right back the corners were coming fast. Fox sent a well paced corner in met by Abbott in the middle of the box heading down into the goal for 8.2. Fox hit another good corner this time Thompson headed home from 10 yards to make it 9.2. Then moments later another good delivery from Fox was met by Thompson again hitting it first time from the edge of the box only to be denied by the wood work.

Wynyard came close to conceding a 3rd when they lost the ball right on the edge of the box. Henderson reacted well and raced out of goal diving arms outstretched to take the ball right off the toe of the forward before clearing up field.

Wynyard showed some nice passing football when Fox again on the right picked out Dowson in the middle of the box who laid the ball out to Abbott on the left. Abbott turned the defender and under pressure held off the player long enough to poke the ball in from the edge of the keepers box Wynyard finishing the game 10.2.

A well fought game by Northallerton who played with the right attitude from start to finish giving Wynyard a harder game than the score would suggest.

Wynyard played away to Stockton Rangers in this midweek tea time fixture which would decide the promotion positions with Stockton needing a win to keep there hopes alive and Wynyard needing a win to keep the Div 6 title in sight or a draw to gain promotion.

Stockton won the toss and elected to kick off with an extremely strong wind at their backs but it was Wynyard who dominated most of the play from the off going close on several occasions bringing good saves from Stockton's keeper. It was against the run of play that Stockton took the lead. Using the wind to good advantage the ball was kicked long up field to Bousfield for Stockton who given time on the ball by Wynyard hit a strong shot from range to go 1.0 up.

Henderson in goal for Wynyard was forced to make a brave save at feet rushing off his line to close down the forward and then minutes later tipping over the cross bar after a shot from the edge of the box to keep Wynyard in the game.

Stockton making best use of the wind kept launching the ball forward giving the Wynyard defence plenty to do, who with a very low sun in their eyes were struggling to see the high balls and finding it hard to clear their lines with the wind in their faces. 10 minutes later Stockton went further in front with Naisbitt scoring from a corner. The ball lost in the sun dropped in front of goal deflecting in for Stockton and 2.0.

Wynyard continued to take the game to Stockton looking for a goal. Thompson made a good run down the left wing picking out Raybould on the edge of the box who hit a good strike forcing the keeper to save away to his left out for a corner. The corner was driven in to the box and Thompson was unlucky to see his header go just over the cross bar.

Just on half time Oliver broke down the right for Wynyard and sent a cross to the far post which was met by Smith who's shot was just saved on the line. Wynyard's defence had done well considering the conditions with Burnup and McCartney at centre backs having a lot of high and bouncing balls to deal with. Nicholson and Abbott, left and right backs worked tirelessly up and down the flanks clearing the balls down the line with Wynyard going in 2.0 down and work to do at the whistle.

Knowing they had the wind at their backs on the restart and the belief they would score Wynyard set the pace of the second half. Pressing Stockton back Wynyard won a free kick on the left hand side Raybould forcing a good save from the keeper diving to his right to concede the corner which was swung in and met by Abbott unmarked in the middle of the box only to see his flick go just over the bar.

Culley working hard on the right showed good strength to win the ball and picked out Raybould on the corner of the box. Raybould side stepped the defender and calmly picked his spot to the keepers left to make it 2.1.
Culley again forcing the play right up to the box hit a smart shot which the keeper could only parry out. Raybould hit the rebound first time forcing the keeper to save again before Stockton cleared.

Wynyard had Stockton compressed right back now looking for the equaliser and with no outlets Stockton were forced to kick long to clear up to the half way line. McCartney last man back for Wynyard collected the clearance and seeing the keeper come off his line controlled the ball and launched a sky high shot at goal. The keeper possibly with the sun in his eyes failed to judge the shot which dropped straight behind him into the net to level the game at 2.2.

Stockton had their hands full now, the keeper saving point blank from Abbott and then 1 v 1 with Thompson doing enough to put him off shooting wide before Oliver faced with a packed area decided to shoot from the right hand corner of the box giving the keeper no chance to make it 3.2 to Wynyard.

Fox breaking down the right hit a strong diagonal shot which the keeper parried out into the path of Williams who's shot was blocked and dropped in front of Abbott who made no mistake this time to finish the game 4.2.

A strongly contested game by 2 determined teams but a deserved win for Wynyard who created several chances in the first half then preventing Stockton any chances in the second with Wynyard's goalie not having a save to make from the restart.

With promotion gained Wynyard have 3 games left and still the chance of the Div 6 title.
