@Daniel:

Thank you for sharing these links and your experiences. I did an analysis of the social network of WiserEarth as few years ago with relations to issue areas. But the information wasn't too informative. I think the main barriers are skills to build the maps and lack of experience in interpreting and displaying them. In the right facilitator's hands social network maps can have an incredible effect especially on weaker / loose networks that could do with some weaving.

Best, Angus

I've had space on Wiser Earth for several years but don't use it frequently. I took a look today and found this section on Network Mapping. This is something I'm really interested in. I've been piloting uses of GIS maps to show non profits, faith groups, businesses, etc. in the same geography (zip code, city, etc) who could be working together because the are in the same area and have self interest in the same issues. At this program locator site you can create maps showing tutor/mentor programs, assets, poverty, etc. http://www.tutormentorprogramlocator.net/InteractiveMap.aspx

I've felt for a long time that network analysis could show the growth of these networks and help people connect with people within them. I've posted some articles about this and some SNA maps I've done on a page at http://www.tutormentorexchange.net/sna

Has any one created a map of the Wiser Earth community, or mapped the growth from a few members several years ago to now? If so, please share the link.

In the mapping I've been trying to do I've found three consistent obstacles. a) lack of funding; which leads to b: lack of talent/manpower/time to create the maps and SNA analysis. This also contributes to lack of resources to build awareness of the maps, teach people to use them, and consistently expand the network.

Would be interested to know if these are challenges others face and how you've overcome them.

Hi Eveline, I do know the organizers of the food co op. I will pass your message along and see if they would be interested in taking part. Can I use the e-mail you used to leave the comment for them to get in touch with you?

Dear Sil,

would you happen to know the person/ organization behind this food-coop movement?
From 17 Apr to 19 Jun 2013 Ashoka Changemakers is organizing Nutrients for All competition (www.changemakers.com/nutrientsforall), in which we hope to build a multi-sector community of action focusing on nutrients. I think it would be great if they can take part... Thanks
