We have friends like Task Manager, Resource Monitor, or even more advanced Performance Monitor helping us to monitor what’s going on in our system. But isn’t it nice having a visualized meter showing the most important resources right on the fancy taskbar?

Taskbar Meter is one of the tools available out there that can help you do that. It’s an open source tool that includes three components to monitor the most import three resources on your computer, CPU, Memeory, and disk IO.

The tool doesn’t require any installation. Simply download it from the Codeplex website and extract them into your local computer. And double-click on them to launch it. If you really like them, you can put these tools right to your startup folder so they will be automatically launched during the login process.

The author also added Task Manager and Resource Monitor into its Jump List, so it’s a nice little addon for people easily opening them.

SuperbarMonitor is another set of tools available that can do the same thing. The tool set consists of 5 separate independent tools that monitor:

Battery

CPU

Disk

Memory

Volume

I particularly like its Volume one. Not only does it shows the status of the volume level on my computer, but it also allow me to change it right inside the tool as well. And I can easily make it Autostart with the Windows.

SuperbarMonitor tools are also free of charge and don’t require any installation before using them. Simply download the tools separately from author’s website and enjoy them.

There are many ways you can tweak your Windows 7 to make it looks more like a Mac. The most common way is to get ride off the taskbar and add a Mac Style dock. How you customize your Windows 7 is totally up to you, but we got a tip for you Mac lover but Windows user

You can now add the on screen volume changer indicator in Windows 7. Yes its those that will animate fade in and fade out volume controls in Mac, and you can bring it to your Windows thanks to 3RVX

Go ahead download this little tool and this take over the default Windows Volume control. In the notification area you will see an addition volume icon and from there you get more settings option.

And yes, whenever you adjust the volume it will play the exact same sound effect as in Mac OS X. Of course you can also change those as well under general settings tab.

Control where it displays on your screen.

Shortcuts for volumes.

Internet Explorer 6, probably the oldest piece of software that still serves many people in the field, finally was announced its death on March 1st.

Internet Explorer Six, resident of the interwebs for over 8 years, died the morning of March 1, 2010 in Mountain View, California, as a result of a workplace injury sustained at the headquarters of Google, Inc. Internet Explorer Six, known to friends and family as "IE6," is survived by son Internet Explorer Seven, and grand-daughter Internet Explorer Eight.

And Microsoft, the father of IE, also sent the flowers to the funeral that speaks quite clear that it’s time to move on and it’s time for IE 6 to rest.

So to avoid troubling yourself by encountering a ghost from your computer while surfing the internet, do yourself a favor, upgrade your IE to the latest IE 8, or completely move away from it by introducing a different browser.

I don’t have an Europe edition of Windows 7 to test it out but according to Download Squad, the much talked-about browser ballot which is required in a version of Windows 7 for Europe is a website, BrowserChoice.eu.

The website is extremely simple, only contains two pages of content, browser select page and the terms and privacy page.

There are total 12 browsers listed on the website horizontally for you to select but only the main 5 browsers listed without you scrolling the bar.

These 5 main browsers actually are laid out randomly every time when the page gets loaded or refreshed, so each one gets the equal chance to be picked up.

Here are the other 7 less used browsers:

In case you don’t know, Aero Peek is a new Windows 7 feature that gives you the power of X-ray vision to go past all your open windows straight to the Windows 7 desktop. Simply move your cursor to the very right edge of the taskbar and you will see what I meant. You can also use the keyboard shortcut win + space to do the same.

So now, after you have used a few times you may wonder if there is a way to change the default delay time or even disable it. Luckily, there are.

Disable the Aero Peak

Head into the taskbar properties by right-clicking on Taskbar and going to Properties. Uncheck the option “Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop” and Click on OK.

And now, the nice Aero Peak has just been disabled by you.

Customize the delay time for Aero Peak

If you feels it’s too slow to peak through the desktop, you may need this registry hack to help you out. Open up regedit.exe from the Start Menu search or run box, and browse through to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

And find or create the key for DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime on the right-hand side of the window, and double-click on it. Then put in the new time value you desire in milliseconds, 0 for instant. OK to save the new value.

Note that you will have to at least log off and log back in to take the new value effect.

There is actually a tool that can simplify it

Yes, there is a very simple free tool called Desktop Peek Tweak that combines these two things together to make it a bit of easier.

That’s it and thanks to the How-To Geek for sharing this great tip.

(Note: IE is not even included in this test, because it’s too slow to make a ground of that test)

Next come start up time, the one that everyone is most curious about and is the most noticeable in any “speed” test. As you can see it also exceed its competitor by a margin. (note: it even faster than the Google Chrome shocking ?!)

Opera not only offers some of the fastest benchmark yet, but some of the nice feature is also welcome. Especially it the build in file sharing system made share any file easier than ever.

How many times do you hear this boring beep from your computer sound system every day? Quite often I would say. And after hearing it a few times, you probably get annoyed quite easily. And if you do and don’t care about computer notifying you whenever you do something wrong, here are two ways to disable it, and thanks to guys at 7tutorial for sharing it.

Disable it from Device Manager

Type “device manager” in the search box from Start menu, and hit Enter to open it.

Click on View from the top dropdown menu and select Show hidden devices.

And find Beep under Non-plug and play drivers, and right-click on it and go to Properties.
