iTunes for Windows 7 or Vista Troubleshooting (Part 2)

Please follow the steps below to disable the Windows 7 or Vista 3rd-party device filters:

Windows 7 : Start menu : Search programs and files : type 'regedit' and ENTER.
Windows Vista : Start menu : Start Search field : type 'regedit' and ENTER.
Sometimes Windows need to authorizes permission before continue.
Head to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and expand the tree.
Click SYSTEM : CurrentControlSet : Control : Class
Select the header displays {4D36E965- (do not click the + sign here). The screenshot should like below :
Select menu : FIle : Export
When opens a dialog box, please ensure the "Selected branch" radio button is selected and save the file as you like.
Right-click the LowerFilters key and go to the menu of shortcut, click Delete. P.S.: If you can't find a LowerFilters key then head to the step below.
Right-click the UpperFilters key. From the menu of shortcut, click Modify. If the UpperFilters key is not available, please create a key for it by following steps in iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes.
Select the whole contents in the Value data text tab.
Right-click the text selected, from the menu of shortcut, click Cut.
Type GEARAspiWDM and press ENTER. Pressing ENTER adds a CR in the field and is important.
Click OK.
Restart the PC.

If the above procedures solves the problem, that means the device filter key from other software was creating trouble with CD or DVD drive software setup with iTunes. At that moments, the CD or DVD drive software (or disc burning software) may not function properly until re-installed the entire software. To prevent the trouble again, please search if there is any updated version of your CD or DVD drive software or Disc Burning Software before re-installing it.

It the above procedures can't solve the problem, please head to the registry and resume it as below steps :

Fire up the Windows Registry Editor (Regedit) that was mentioned in steps 1 and 2 in the above procedures.
On the menu of File, click Import. Find the file that you have exported in the above steps.
Exit Registry Editor and restart your PC.

Microsoft announces Windows 7 SP1

Microsoft today announced service packs for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but declined to set a release date or a schedule for getting a beta in users' hands.

According to a company spokesman, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will primarily contain "minor updates," including patches and hotfixes that will have been delivered earlier via the Windows Update service, rather than new features. One of the latter: an updated Remote Desktop client designed to work with RemoteFX, the new remote-access platform set to debut in SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2.

Windows Server 2008 R2 will also be upgraded to SP1, Microsoft said, presumably at the same time as Windows 7 since the two operating systems share a single code base. Besides RemoteFX -- which Microsoft explained yesterday in an entry on the Windows virtualization team's blog -- Server 2008 R2 will also include a feature dubbed "Dynamic Memory," which lets IT staff adjust guest virtual machines' memory on the fly.

Microsoft did not spell out a timetable for the service packs, saying only that it would provide more information as release milestones approach.

Two weeks ago, a Web site that has regularly predicted release dates for Windows and its service packs said that Microsoft had dumped plans for a 22-month development cycle for Windows 7 SP1, and instead might deliver the upgrade in the fourth quarter of this year. At the time, Microsoft declined to talk about Windows 7 SP1, with a spokeswoman saying, "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."

If Windows 7 SP1 follows the pace set three years ago by Vista SP1, the fourth quarter is a good bet.

After much hemming and hawing, Microsoft admitted it would create SP1 for the then-new Vista in late July 2007, announced a schedule in August, seeded an invite-only group of testers with an early build in September, posted a release candidate for public download in December 2007 and formally launched SP1 in mid-March 2008. From start to finish, the Vista SP1 process lasted just over eight months.

That same timeline for Windows 7 SP1 would put its release in late November 2010.

But Windows 7 SP1 may be less important than previous first service packs if a recent survey of over 900 IT administrators is on the button. According to the poll, which was conducted in January by Dimensional Research, 46% of the admins said they wouldn't wait for SP1 before deploying Windows 7. By tradition -- if little else -- many businesses postpone their migrations to a new Windows until that version's SP1 shows up.

"That may not sound like a lot, but for IT, it's a huge number," said Diane Hagglund, the senior research analyst with Dimensional who authored the survey and the follow-up report.

The first hint of Windows 7 SP1 came more than two months ago, when Rafael Rivera, who writes the Within Windows blog, sniffed out several keys in Windows 7's registry that add an eligibility check for SP1.

Many people ask me the question : What should I do before upgrade to Windows 7 ? I had anwsered this question many times and feel tired. So, I wrote the steps and tips for readers in my blog. Don't be afraid to install a new OS. Your recent data in hard disk is safe if you follow the steps promptly.

Hardware Requirement

I suppose you to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. The followings is my own experience. If you intend to install other version of Windows 7, you should read the installation manual online from Microsoft Website before buy.

CPU

CPU is not an important factor to run Windows 7. Even I had installed Windows 7 beta version in my netbook : Acer Aspire One - Atom 1.6G CPU, 1GB of RAM with 120GB hard disk space. It runs flawlessly. May be you already know, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition brings you fancy 3D effects user interface. A Dual Core or Quad Core CPU definately can boost up the performance to run those hard-core applications.

RAM

In previous Windows Vista, 1GB RAM is the minimum requirement to install it. When you install more programs in Windows Vista, the system become unstable and slow down heavily. RAM is also a critical component in order to run Windows 7 smootly. I use 3GB RAM and probably 4GB t get the most optimal performance.

Hard Disk Space

The minium hard disk space requirement is 8GB. Probably 15GB space left is the ideal enviroment for swap file. I use 50GB for the Windows 7 system partition. It is the best for me to install most common applications inside it. For example : Microsoft Office, Photoshop, ACDSee, Windows Live, etc...
