Melania Trump Dares to Be Different

Many in the media prey on Melania, picking her apart, as if she is a dead carcass. Their mocking and ridiculing remarks about Melania are based on three erroneous assumptions about her:

1. She is stupid. They make fun of her accent and they even laugh at her clothes.

Fact: Melania is the key advisor to her husband who identifies those he should not trust. She travels to different trouble spots to observe and report back her findings to her husband. Often, she has impact on policy, especially if it involves children.

2. She is a woman who, therefore, should believe women when they make allegations about sexual assault.

Fact: Melania does not automatically believe women because they are women. She makes her decisions based on the evidence, whether it is Dr. Ford or her husband's accusers.

3. She does not live at the White House and does not love her husband.

Fact: Melania lives in the White House which she enjoys, loves her husband, and admires his success.

Melania is a powerful First Lady who quietly exerts her power. Unlike her husband, she does not actively seek the spotlight. She sees herself in the driver’s seat not the media. They even showed the outlandish music video online with a look a like Melania posing as stripper.

Mentoring the Millennial Workforce to Prevent Burnout

By 2025, 75 percent of millennials will comprise the workforce, according to Alan Kohill in Forbes. Who are the millennials? They were born between 1981 and 2000.

The future in which millennials will dominate the workforce presents challenges for them and us. Burnout is a serious issue. Millennial women burnout at work by age 30.

How do millennials view work?

Krish Chopra in Forbes reports that 43 percent of millennials envision leaving their jobs within two years, preferably 20 months. The rationale for this time frame is unclear. Impatience? Kohill sheds light on their view of work-life balance. Millennials are not necessarily focused on money. They want a flexible work environment which makes them feel happy. Growth opportunities interest them.

What is the reality?

Visualize a pressure cooker! Work environments in for-profit corporate America are usually described as high stress. To move up in 20 months or less for many is not possible. Given that millennials work long hours, eager to proceed “up” and then “out", burnout is common with accompanying health problems.

It is not surprising that ophthalmologists see patients in their early twenties or younger who have cataracts in their eyes. When I discussed the matter with ophthalmologists, they pointed to the millennial lifestyle and diet as the cause. If Millennials have cataracts, a condition which is prevalent in the older population, they are increasing their risk of premature aging due to other health issues, such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart problems.

Having worked with a significant number of millennials, I have observed that in many situations they are focused on their own beliefs. Consequently, they miss opportunities to learn. Millennials need to be mentored on how to succeed in the workforce. Otherwise, burnout will increase resulting in chronic diseases, for some. Ultimately, premature death could be the long-term outcome.

The employed millennials, who are experiencing work-related health issues, should seek counseling immediately. Those who are having difficulties at work or cannot find the Right Fit job, or unclear about what they want, should not delay seeking counseling. Delay ignites further delay, which could lead to depression.

Senator Susan Collins Objectively Evaluates Kavanaugh

Senator Collins presented a masterful objective

defense of Judge Kavanaugh in which she carefully presented her case explaining her decision to vote “yes”. She showed no partisan politics, as she overcame objections to his confirmation. Moreover, she expanded her thoughts about what needed to be done in the future, for women’s rights, especially in sexual abuse cases.

Watch and carefully listen to her speech online. Notice, how she constructed her argument. We all must be able to be objective and overcome objections. Our political affiliation is irrelevant.

How often are you objective? At a job interview can you overcome objections? Many candidates and employees blame employers for not getting jobs or promotions. Often, candidates and employees cannot understand the employer’s side and to fail to speak up.

Speak Up! Stop hiding behind the veil of email. Stop making the assumption that email must be your primary source of communication. Millions of people have declined in the art of verbal communication. I think that they fear failure because they expect rejection. Your Response: Hide behind the veil of email.

When I conduct a retained executive search, I can quickly assess those that are avoiding telephone conversations. If I call a potential candidate without scheduling the call, they are awkward and uncomfortable. When I introduce myself I hear, "Ok." Where is the dynamic personality that my clients are searching for? I cannot present candidates who are unaccustomed to speaking.

Should We Accept Fraud on LinkedIn? Dr. Arlene Investigates!

LinkedIn is an outstanding resource for professional networking, but I am concerned about the reliability & validity of the information in the profile. Appearance & reality are not always one in the same.

I’ve identified the following issues:

Situation:

Unemployed individuals on their profile present the last position as current when it is not.

Excuses: “I have tried to edit the profile & cannot.” “I will have more recruiters & employers contact me, if I am employed.”

Solution: Unemployed individuals should present themselves accurately to invite assistance in their job search.

Situation:

Employed individuals present themselves as consultants on their profile, when they hold full-time positions, some are in high-level management.

Excuses: “I am always looking.” “I want to pick up consulting work, even though I am making a high salary in the event I could be downsized.”

Solution: Be honest! Your deception can be discovered.

Situation:

Unemployed or Employed?

The profile is a hodgepodge of fraudulent information, which includes company names that are not real companies.

Excuses: More unconvincing lies when confronted directly & they quickly work to cover their tracks.

Solution: Remove yourself from LinkedIn.

What should LinkedIn do?

Remove the con artists from LinkedIn & clearly state the requirements to maintain an accurate profile. Create a system to verify, at a bare minimum, the individual’s current position.

If LinkedIn wants to be a trusted professional networking site who sets the standard, they need to make changes now to set the stage for 2018. Otherwise, their credibility could be in jeopardy.

Is Megyn Kelly Eroding Her Brand?

Why did Kelly insult Jane Fonda? Recall Trump! Asking Fonda, age 79, actress and activist, about her plastic surgeries infuriated her. Would Kelly have asked a male celebrity the same question? Probably not. Would other interviewers have succeeded in eliciting a positive response from Fonda? Read on.

Interviewing is an art. Think about the interviews that Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, & Diane Sawyer have done. Remember Sawyer’s interviews of Caitlyn Jenner before and after her surgeries? To ask sensitive, tough questions you have to really connect with your interviewee. They need to feel comfortable, believe that you care about them, and forget that millions and millions of people are watching the interview.

Have you ever seen Barbara Walters’ interview of Monica Lewinsky? It is unforgettable! A masterpiece worthy of studying. Walters, over the years, has stayed in touched with Lewinsky, who became an outcast, after her relationship with former President Clinton. Walters really experienced Lewinsky’s pain and felt that Lewinsky had been unfairly persecuted. Kelly is not Winfrey, Walters, or Sawyer. But she hit a homerun at the Fox Presidential Debate, when she asked Trump a question which ignited her career. As she quoted his negative comments about women, including Rosie O’Donnell, his inflammatory response elicited a lot of empathy for Kelly. Suddenly, everyone wanted to interview her. She wrote a book and landed a highly lucrative anchor job on NBC.

Is Kelly eroding her brand? Unfortunately for her, she has not been able to replicate her blockbuster Trump question. She failed with Fonda and also with Putin, who she visited in Russia to conduct the interview. In a nutshell, she learned nothing. What next?

Hang up Your Tweeting Gloves, President Trump! Comey Bombshell

Like a boxer, Trump tries to score a knockout punch with a tweet as if it is a fist. Unfortunately, he is knocking himself out, not his perceived opponents. Comey, in his testimony today states that one specific tweet plus other Trump comments fueled him to share his memos to a professor at Columbia University who then leaked them to The New York Times. The goal was to use this leak to push for a special prosecutor.

How does Trump’s tweets make you feel? Stressed! Instead of complaining about the tweets, let us score our stress level and tell him how we feel. When a Trump tweet causes you stress email him explaining how you feel: Migraine Alert: bedrest, milk, and cookies. Oops no sugar? No dairy? Try 400mg standardized of Feverfew by Soloray.

Anxiety alert: must abstain from all news to avoid Trump's Tweets. Heart Alert: heart palpitations off to the hospital emergency room for evaluation.

Use my three stress categories on those tweets which are causing you stress. Perhaps Trump will understand the message that using Twitter as a knee jerk reaction without carefully crafting messages harms him and us. Especially when he fuels uncertainty.

Do You Agree with 65 Plus Reps Boycotting Inauguration?

I do not. We elect and pay all Members of the House of Representatives to do their jobs. For 65 Plus Representatives to shirk their responsibilities is not acceptable. Attending the Presidential Inauguration is part of their "job description." According to our Constitution, it is their responsibility to participate in a peaceful transition of power. They are required to uphold the Constitution, which they swore they would do. Should there be consequences for not upholding the Constitution?

Partisan politics is irrelevant. Liking or not liking the new president is irrelevant. Even Bill and Hillary Clinton are attending the Inauguration which signifies the need for unity of both parties to unite. What will the boycott achieve? The world will be watching the Inauguration of Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States. The boycott of 65 Plus Democratic House Representatives is an unnecessary detrimental distraction. We face many global challenges. Every member of Congress should attend to show the world we are ready for a peaceful transition of power. We are a strong country!

Working against Trump will not work. He is determined to achieve his goal. Trump is like a surgeon. He will cut them out his way and do the job without them if he must do that.

Many of the boycotters represent the inner city. Trump vows do fix up the inner cities. He selected Dr. Ben Carson, who grew up in poverty, and will be the Secretary of HUD. Carson is an excellent role model for those who want to escape from a life of poverty, seeking a bright future. Carson is consumed with passion to make that dream happen for others, as he did for himself.

The boycotters forget that Trump alone cannot be successful. The Inauguration represents a new administration. Unity must be the goal of both parties. Boycotters, be gone!

Important question: Should there be consequences for the House Reps who did not attend the Inauguration which means that they did not uphold the Constitution which states they have a responsibility to participate in a peaceful transition of power?
