There will be fireworks in Leigh on Thursday November 19 when locals gather in the Civic Square for the township awards ceremony and the switch on event.

So here it is Merry Christmas, everybody’s having fun …. And they always do at Ashton Library when the big festive lights switch on takes place amid carols, food and community fun. This year, the fun begins at 6.30pm on Friday 27 November, with carols from the Trinity Girls Band.

Isherwood Exhibition

A NEW exhibition of works by Wigan artist J L Isherwood has been described as one of the best privately owned collections to have surfaced to date. It’s 20 years since Lawrence Isherwood passed away and on Saturday a collection of 50 paintings by the artist at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh opened to the public.

Council transport planners have announced safety improvements in Tyldesley at the busy junction of Manchester Road, Sale Lane and Hough Lane. This week, there will be a new lighting arrangement using sophisticated traffic management technology which will allow extra vehicle flow.

Young people from Wigan are preparing for a real trip down memory lane and they just might have a look at the brickwork and pointing along the way. On Thursday November 12, Wigan Council will be hosting a special event aimed at enticing young people working and studying within the construction industry to take a look back and learn more about old-fashioned building techniques.
