When can you use the word “retard“? You can use it when you’re being satirical. For instance, it’s not okay for Rahm Emanuel to say that liberal activists are “fucking retarded” in a private meeting because 1. that’s mean and 2. he’s a Democrat. But it is okay for Rush Limbaugh to describe a meeting between Emanuel and advocates for the developmentally disabled as “a retard summit at the White House,” and to use the word “retard” forty times on his show because, um…

Retarded Arabs protest violently over Rush Limbaugh comments!

I’ll let Sarah Palin explain it…

“[Limbaugh] was using satire… I didn’t hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with ‘f-ing retards’ and we did know that Rahm Emanuel has been reported, did say that. there is a big difference there.”

So… it’s okay to call someone a retard if you’re making fun of them, if you’re being satirical, but it’s not okay to call someone a retard if you simply disagree with that person. Now the allowable use of “retard” could get complicated, of course, if you’re using “retard” satirically to mock someone with whom you disagree. Better to play it safe and stick to leotarded.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for … or not.

Levi Johnston’s much-hyped Playgirl cover finally hit newsstands Saturday ending months of speculation over whether the sexy skater would go rogue and bare it all.

The answer is: He did, but you can’t see it.

The cover features Johnston — the ex-beau of Bristol Palin and father of her son Tripp — clearly naked but hiding his nether regions (just barely).

Photos leaked in November sparked a public spat between the sexy skater baby-mama Bristol.

Bristol, daughter of former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has requested that part of the proceeds from Playgirl go toward child support payments, according TMZ.com.

“I have received limited and sporadic financial assistance from Levi,” Bristol said in a statement.

Johnston’s manager claims that Levi has paid Palin more than $10,000 since the child was born.

In the past year the attention-starved Johnston has appeared on the pages of Vanity Fair and Entertainment tonight as well as Oprah’s couch.

“Rahm called Tim Shriver Wednesday to apologize and the apology was accepted,” the official said.

Shriver is the Chairman and CEO of the Special Olympics, which has launched a campaign against what it calls “the R word.”

What makes this even more absurd is that Rahm, to my knowledge, has never once apologized to liberals for calling them retarded. But now that Palin has attacked, Rahm is suddenly apologizing to Shriver!

So absurd.

Update: In fairness, a White House official emails me that Rahm apologized to Shriver last Wednesday, so it may not have been prompted by Palin’s attack. I’ve changed the hed to reflect that. Still, no apology to liberals that I’m aware of.

Next Sunday, when millions of people tune in to watch Super Bowl XLIV, they’ll see a football star off the field, too. Tim Tebow, the University of Florida’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, is set to appear with his mother in a 30-second advertisement to be aired during the game. The spot, which has not been released, is said to feature Tebow, by all reports a humble young man who takes his faith seriously, and his mother telling the story of her decision 23 years ago to ignore medical advice and continue a risky pregnancy. Pam Tebow says that she had contracted amoebic dysentery, and her doctors feared that the medicine used to treat her illness might cause fetal deformity. The healthy and very successful Tim proved them wrong.

Pro-choice advocates were shocked when CBS appeared to violate internal policy and accepted this spot — reportedly at a price of at least $2.5 million — produced and paid for by Focus on the Family, a conservative antiabortion, anti-gay group. Though CBS says it has altered its policy, the networks have consistently rejected advocacy ads on controversial topics. The United Church of Christ was turned down by CBS in 2004 when it wanted to air a Super Bowl ad that celebrated diversity and welcomed gay and lesbian Christians to the denomination. And last year NBC rejected a spot from an antiabortion group that tried to use President Obama’s life story to convey its message. The rules of the game seem to have changed without warning.

For abortion rights supporters, picking on Tim Tebow and his mom is not the way to go. Instead of trying to block or criticize the Focus on the Family ad, the pro-choice movement needs its own Super Bowl strategy. People want to be inspired, and abortion is as tough and courageous a decision as is the decision to continue a pregnancy. But the conversation is being led by Focus on the Family and its quarterback ambassador. It’s a high-profile example of the savvy way the antiabortion movement has tailored its message.

Tebow is not the first football star to look into a camera and talk about birth, life and choices. In 1989, Wellington Mara, then the co-owner of the New York Giants, helped produce a nine-minute video featuring members of his 1987 Super Bowl championship team. Mara was on the board of directors of the anti-abortion American Life League, and the group widely distributed the video to churches, schools and pro-life organizations. It didn’t air on broadcast television, much less on Super Bowl Sunday. But its extreme antiabortion language contrasts sharply with the warm and fuzzy — and even inspirational — message of the Tebow ad.

The 1989 video features tight end Mark Bavaro catching a touchdown pass and saying: “At the end of the game, all the Giants players left the field champions. Now with the abortion death squads allowed to run rampant through our country, I wonder how many future champions will be killed before they see the light of day.”

George Martin, an African American defensive end, compares Roe v. Wade, which said “unborn babies have no rights,” to the “shameful Dred Scott decision that said that black people have no rights.”

And Phil Simms, the star quarterback who is now the NFL game analyst for CBS and who will be part of the broadcast next Sunday, also makes an appearance. He describes picking up a newspaper the day after the ‘87 Super Bowl victory and noticing a “little item” that got much less attention than the game: a report stating that “an average of 4,400 babies are killed every day by abortion.” Simms concludes: “Suddenly, my statistics seemed very insignificant.”

All Tim Tebow wants to do next Sunday, we are told, is let the world know that he’s glad his mother had him and that he hopes other women make the same choice. Pam Tebow was indeed courageous and had the legal right to choose, a point the pro-choice movement can readily make in response to the ad.

Those opposed to legal abortions have learned a lot about reaching out to the many Americans who can’t make up their minds about the issue. Many of these people don’t want abortion to be illegal but believe that too many such procedures take place in this country. Conservative groups, such as Focus on the Family, have gotten that message. They know to save the fire and brimstone for their hardcore base; for Super Bowl Sunday, you appeal to people’s hearts with a smiling baby — or Tim Tebow and his mom. Presenting Americans with a challenge of personal sacrifice, especially if the person who has to sacrifice is a woman, is a convincing sell.

Women’s and choice groups responding to the Tebow ad should take a page from the Focus on the Family playbook. Erin Matson, the National Organization for Women’s new vice president, called the Tebow spot “hate masquerading as love.” That kind of comment may play well in the choice choir, but to others, it makes no sense, at best; at worst, it’s seen as the kind of stridency that reinforces the view that pro-choice simply means pro-abortion.

We have seen a dramatic shift in attitudes toward “pro-life” and “pro-choice.” In 1995 Gallup asked respondents for the first time whether they considered themselves “to be pro-choice or pro-life.” Only 33 percent took on the pro-life label. In 2009, 51 percent considered themselves pro-life, and pro-choice had dropped from a high of 56 percent to 44 percent.

Neither movement can take full credit or blame for the change. Science played a big role, making the fetus more visible. Today, the first picture in most baby books is the 12-week 3D ultrasound, and Grandma and Grandpa have that photo posted on the fridge. We read about successful fetal surgery; we don’t read about women dying in pools of blood on their bathroom floors after botched abortions, as we did when the procedure was illegal.

Congress has also weighed in. The “partial birth” abortion ban was introduced in 1995, shifting attention from the choice movement’s effective “who decides” message — which became the key question after the Supreme Court’s 1989 Webster v. Reproductive Health Services decision — to what the Catholic bishops had always wanted America to ask: “What is being decided?” From that point forward, abortions in the second half of pregnancy and graphic descriptions of how they are performed dominated coverage of the issue.

Such influences notwithstanding, there is no doubt that some segments of the antiabortion movement were more nimble and consistent in reaching out to the uncommitted than the choice advocates were. In the spring of 1992, the Arthur S. DeMoss Foundation began a multimillion-dollar ad campaign with a “do the right thing” message — similar to that in the Tebow spot. For five years, its “Life, What a Beautiful Choice” ads saturated media markets where public opinion on abortion was deeply divided.

NARAL Pro-Choice America followed with its “Choice for America” campaign, using symbols of freedom such as the U.S. flag to frame choice as a quintessential American value. “What’s life without choice?” the ads asked. Tracking polls in the states where the spots aired showed an increase in identification with abortion rights, but donor support lagged, and the ads ended up on the shelf.

On the other side, though, the innovation continued. Groups such as Feminists for Life started out relatively small but invested heavily in reaching out to college students, talking not about making abortion illegal but about helping college women keep their babies. Their pro-life message wasn’t exclusively anti-abortion; it was anti-capital-punishment, antiwar, for saving the whales, for not eating meat and for supporting mothers. It wasn’t the mainstream of the antiabortion movement, but it had its appeal.

Today, all sorts of well-educated and progressive people are comfortable calling themselves pro-life. In the public eye, the term seems to encompass a broader and more moderate vision, not focused solely on what it opposes. That vision has suffered the occasional blow: Most recently, a man on the antiabortion fringe was convicted Friday of the murder, at a Kansas church, of George Tiller, a doctor who performed abortions. But the Scott Roeders of the world are not adding to the movement’s base. The Super Bowl approach is doing that.

So here’s our Super Bowl strategy for the choice movement. We’d go with a 30-second spot, too. The camera focuses on one woman after another, posed in the situations of daily life: rushing out the door in the morning for work, flipping through a magazine, washing dishes, teaching a class of sixth-graders, wheeling a baby stroller. Each woman looks calmly into the camera and describes her different and successful choice: having a baby and giving it up for adoption, having an abortion, having a baby and raising it lovingly. Each one being clear that making choices isn’t easy, but that life without tough choices doesn’t exist.

Will Sarah Palin’s Tea Party dinner be a bust?

Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips likely assumed that scoring a dinner speech by the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate would guarantee a huge turnout for his National Tea Party Convention, scheduled to start Feb. 4 at Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland Hotel. But according to Tea Party insiders, the tickets for the Palin banquet aren’t selling—and some conservative activists who have already paid to attend are now demanding refunds. With the controversial event shaping up to be a potential flop, some Tea Partiers are urging Palin to cancel her speech to avoid a humiliating public relations disaster.

The problems began after news broke that Phillips intended to profit from the convention—which costs $549 a person for access to both the conference and Palin’s banquet, or $349 for a ticket to the dinner alone. With one prominent conservative blogger charging that the event seemed “scammy,” several key sponsors yanked their support, including the National Precinct Alliance, the American Liberty Alliance, American Majority, and the Federation for American Immigration Reform. As the rash of bad press continued, this week Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), announced that she’s considering pulling out as a convention speaker. And some Tea Party activists think Palin should join her. According to internal convention planning documents obtained by Mother Jones, Palin will be paid $115,000 to address the attendees—as they dine on steak or lobster. To some Tea Partiers, this lavish affair sounds suspiciously like an exclusive GOP fundraiser and a betrayal of their grassroots movement. (In mid-January, Palin told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that she will not profit from her appearance at the convention, suggesting she would donate her speaking fee to Republican candidates. But she has not provided any details on that, and a Palin spokesperson did not respond to requests for clarification.)

Phillips has bragged publicly that the tickets covering both the convention and the speech have sold out. Yet Tea Party insiders say that’s not the whole story. Anthony Shreeve is an activist in Dandridge, Tenn. who quit the convention organizing committee over the expensive ticket prices. He says he has it on good authority that most of the approximately 500 speech-only tickets have not been sold. Shreeve adds that Phillips “isn’t going to sell any more,” and says other would-be attendees have been demanding—and receiving—refunds. Late on Tuesday afternoon, I tested his claim by attempting to buy 10 tickets to the dinner. If I’d been prepared to shell out $3,587.10, that would apparently have been no problem. “I really hope that Sarah Palin doesn’t come to this event because it’s going to be really embarrassing for her to walk into a half-empty room,” says Shreeve.

According to the internal Tea Party Nation documents, organizers were depending on Palin’s speech to lure a much larger crowd to the banquet in order to turn a profit. Based on cost estimates used by the organizers in the planning documents, if 1,100 people attend the banquet (600 of whom would also attend the convention), the event would cost the organizers about $401,200, including Palin’s $115,000 speaking fee. If all the tickets are sold—both the $549 all-access tickets and the $349 dinner-only tickets—Phillips’ group would net about $102,700. But if few of the banquet-only tickets are sold, the organizers are likely to end up seriously in the hole, depending on how much the group had to pay in advance to the hotel, which is charging $120 per person for the dinner. Shreeve observes, “It wouldn’t surprise me if [Phillips] ends up filing for bankruptcy the day after.” Tami Kilmarx, a nurse in Nashville who also resigned from the Tea Party Nation convention planning committee after falling out with Phillips, believes the convention may ultimately “completely disintegrate.” She says that Phillips has been urged to give away remaining tickets to Palin’s speech to head off the embarrassment of having the former vice presidential candidate speaking to a half-empty room.

Given all the negative publicity, Shreeve is surprised Palin hasn’t pulled out already. “In her contract she is allowed to send a representative if she can’t make it if she’s sick or something. Maybe she’ll come down with the flu,” he says with a laugh. He adds that Tea Partiers have written her letters pleading with her not to come because they believe that reports of a glitzy, high-priced dinner would hurt the real Tea Party movement, which prides itself on its thrifty, grassroots image. Meanwhile, Kilmarx reports that Nashville activists have contacted the Washington Speakers Bureau, which represents Palin, with concerns. And she says Tea Party activists in Tennessee have been trying to reach Palin through the media to let her know that Tea Party Nation does not represent the majority of Tea Party groups in the state. (Of the 42 Tennessee Tea Party groups, only one is officially supporting the convention.)

Robin Stublen, a Florida tea party leader who has been loudly denouncing Tea Party profiteers, believes that Palin “should not only pull out but pull out quickly.” He says the same about Blackburn and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who is also scheduled to be a convention participant. Stublen says he thinks all of these politicians were “duped” into speaking at the for-profit event, adding that several hundred people have contacted him and urged him to call on Palin to stay away from the convention.

Phillips didn’t return a call for comment. But so far, Palin’s speech seems to be going ahead as planned.

And not all the critics are convinced that she should cancel. For all her qualms about the convention, Kilmarx isn’t rooting for Palin to back out. She says she trusts Palin’s judgment, and that too many unsuspecting people have paid large sums to attend. “I would not want to have any of the good people who have forked over good money to see her get hurt. It’s a sorry state of affairs,” she says. But Stublen isn’t so charitable. “It is up to us as individuals to be an informed public. Maybe this will teach people that anytime somebody uses the name ‘Tea Party’ to check them out before giving them money.”

Bill Hemrick might be inclined to agree. He is the Nashville businessman who loaned Phillips the initial $50,000 to pay Palin’s speaking fee, unaware that the event was designed to net Phillips a profit. “I wish I had known. I just thought the Tea Party movement was nonprofit. That’s my own stupid fault,” he tells Mother Jones. Hemrick has since gotten his money back, but like many of the event’s original enthusiasts, he has fallen out with its organizers, who have asked him not to attend Palin’s speech. Nonetheless, Hemrick thinks it would be tragic if Palin failed to show up. “If she pulled out it would do more detriment to the Tea Party movement than to any one person,” he says. “I sincerely hope that it’s a good deal for those people.”

The US Senate voted 70-30 in favour of Mr Bernanke, handing him the narrowest victory margin in decades.

He has been criticised for not doing enough to prevent the economic crisis and for supporting the bank bailouts.

But his supporters say that without his efforts after the crash, the US would be in far worse shape than it is now.

‘Vital role’

US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the Senate had done the “right thing” by confirming Mr Bernanke.

“Chairman Bernanke will continue to play a vitally important role in guiding the nation’s economy,” he said in a statement.

But Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse said it was time the Fed used its “enormous powers” to help people.

It was time to “pivot from the necessary rescue of our major financial institutions to the equally, if not more necessary, help to America’s families,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.

Mr Bernanke replaced Alan Greenspan as chairman in 2006.

His nomination had earlier cleared a procedural hurdle with a 77-23 vote.

The US Federal Reserve wields considerable influence over Americans as it has the power to set interest rates which influence inflation and employment, says the BBC’s Imtiaz Tyab in Washington.

Recent attacks by lawmakers from both sides of the political divide on the central bank have become a real test of its independence, our correspondent says.

Sarah Palin’s recent book success and her new high-profile role on Fox News are having a stunning impact on her political standing with a Newsmax-Zogby poll showing the former Alaska governor now leading the GOP field as the party’s preferred candidate for president.

The exclusive Newsmax Media-Zogby poll released Thursday asked likely GOP voters: “If the Republican primary for president of the United States were held today… for whom would you vote?”

The poll gave voters a selection of top tier potential candidates as well as some dark horses, the list included Scott Brown, Jeb Bush, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, David Petraeus, Tim Pawlenty, and Mitt Romney.

Despite the size and diversity of the field, Palin grabbed a solid 22.2 percent to take the lead with former Massachusetts Gov. Romney close behind with 19.4 percent.

Also making a strong showing was former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich with 12 percent, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 11 percent.

The Newsmax-Zogby poll suggests the rumble for top dog among GOP candidates is anything but static.

In early December, a CNN/Opinion Research poll found Mike Huckabee led the Republican field of presidential candidates with Palin trailing him for second place.

The latest data is clearly good news for Palin.

“It suggests to me that reports of her political death are exaggerated,” political strategist and Democratic pollster Douglas Schoen tells Newsmax. “In American political life, politicians have not only second and third lives, they have nine lives. And Sarah Palin is on her third or fourth life.”

The poll’s results offer a stark contrast to earlier surveys on Palin.

In November, a Washington Post-ABC News poll reported that 52 percent of voters viewed Palin unfavorably, although her positive rating among Republicans in that poll was 76 percent.

Since then, Palin has continued making appearances associated with her blockbuster bestseller “Going Rogue: An American Life.”

And earlier this month she inked a deal as an on-air contributor to Fox News, followed by several high-profile appearances on the network.

The poll indicates that, among Republicans at least, Palin has overcome the various and sundry attacks leveled against her in the media and remains a powerful political force.

She recently kicked off a series of campaign appearances on behalf of Republican candidates who hope to ride the current wave of anti-incumbent animus into Washington.

GOP political leaders are taking notice.

California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the chief deputy whip for the GOP, tells Newsmax he’s not surprised by Palin’s strength in the Newsmax-Zogby poll, “but I imagine there are a few networks, that it might surprise them.”

McCarthy says Palin has become the voice of an electorate increasingly frustrated with federal governance.

“She has the common sense to go out, to listen, to talk, to tell exactly how she feels from the heart,” McCarthy tells Newsmax. “They can try to go out there and say whatever they want about her but she’s really the voice of the people. She raises a family, she understands those challenges. … I think that’s what America is looking for.”

“America is not looking for a party,” McCarthy says. “They’re looking for a leader and those who will help change Washington.”

The Newsmax-Zogby poll asked voters to select from among a diverse field of candidates, including newly elected Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown (5.2 percent), Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (4.9 percent), and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (3.9 percent).

The poll also probed voters’ interest in a dark horse in the race, Gen. David Petraeus, the commander who received high marks for his performance in executing the Bush administration’s successful “surge” strategy in Iraq.

Petraeus placed fifth among the candidates with 5.6 percent of the vote, indicating he’s clearly on the radar of GOP voters. The poll’s margin of error was 2.2 percent.

Of course, polls taken months or years before an election often don’t reflect what actually happens on Election Day. A Gallup poll taken in November 2007, for example, showed then-Sen. Hillary Clinton with a seemingly insurmountable 27-point lead over a young senator from Illinois named Barack Obama.

Schoen points out that 15.6 percent of those surveyed in the Newsmax-Zogby poll were undecided. Considering that frontrunner Palin received just over 22 percent, “it’s anybody’s race” according to Schoen.

“I think the greatest degree of certainty we have now,” Schoen says, “is that uncertainty reigns.” The tea party movement did not exist a year ago: It’s now one of the most powerful forces in American politics. Scott Brown was a little known legislator. Barack Obama was a very, very popular president.

“So the world has changed, and it will undeniably change to a much greater extent.”

Schoen points out that the grassroots-conservative movement has yet to coalesce behind a favorite candidate, adding, “The activist conservative right is probably the most visible, active, aggressive force in American political life today.”

The poll isn’t all good news for Palin, cautions Fox News contributor and bestselling author Dick Morris.

She is the clearly highest profile candidate listed, he says, yet she garnered less than three-quarters of the vote.

“Sarah Palin has a strong group of dedicated supporters who really, really like her – with good reason, I might add. I think they believe, and I think they’re right, that she was an enormous asset to the McCain ticket,” Morris tells Newsmax. “And I think that group is going to be there buying her books, tuning into her programs, coming to her book signings, coming to her rallies, voting for her in the polls. But the fact that it’s less than a quarter of the Republican electorate, to me indicates some trouble ahead for her.”

Morris tells Newsmax the 2012 Republican nominee is likely to beat President Obama.

A couple of key points. Zogby uses the best sample, “likely voters.” This is generally the most accurate sample. One has to watch for this in polling. Often lesser pollsters will use “registered voters” which is a slightly less accurate sample, or simply poll “adults” which is can be wildly inaccurate. With that said, we feel this poll is a true reflection of the voters at this point.

Also, while I respect Dick Morris, and agree that Sarah will still have to earn the nomination, one must look at this poll in context. Newsmax offered up a large group of potential candidates for those questioned to choose. That diluted the percentages to each candidate.

Something else that is not mentioned here, but should be, is this: The front runners, Sarah , Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee remain about the same, in relationship to each other, as well as to the rest of the potential challengers. None of the other potential candidates are ever able to pull out of the single digits in any poll.

2012 is a long way away, and absolutely anything can happen, but as it stands today, Sarah Palin is the front runner. Sarah is the front runner for exactly the reasons Kevin McCarthy mentions above. Sarah connects with the voters because she is one of them. When she speaks folks know she has had the same experiences they have had.

Sarah is truly a woman of the people, and that is exactly the type of leader America is looking for.

Jonas Brothers fans in Anchorage, Alaska have finally gotten their wish. The Jonas Brothers are tentatively scheduled to perform at MaS! (Make-a-Scene) sometime in late June or early July, 2010. A firm date hasn’t been set. What is unusual about this concert is that former Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin, will be the opening act, speaking for 45 minutes before the Jonas Brothers take the stage.

It’s not clear what Palin will speak about but it is widely known that the former governor has said more than once that she wished Bristol and Joe Jonas had found each other before Bristol decided to take off her purity ring and give herself to Levi Johnston. “Things sure woulda been different. Cantcha just imagine Joe Jonas as a first son of America?” she wistfully remarked.

Tickets go on sale Monday.

As for what Bristol has to say to Oprah, Levi shares, “[Bristol] answered like two questions. She couldn’t answer questions without Sarah butting in and adding her own two cents.”

EVIL GEORGE W BUSH

From print publications as well known as the New York Times to the Internet site of the Huffington Post, the purveyors of the hate “W” campaign have let their invective out for the world to see.

They spew venom for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and their extreme malice and bitterness is way beyond a political difference of opinion. If you are not on board for their particular political agenda then you are wrong in your opinion and are to be hated and ridiculed for your ignorance, stupidity and arrogance.

There is their opinion, the right opinion, and no other opinion should be considered. This is because they have studied an issue thoroughly, have determined how the issue should be viewed, have come to a logical conclusion about the truth, and have developed a plan of rational action that should be taken in regard to the issue being examined.

It is really all very simple once you have all the facts; that is because liberal, educated, literate, intelligent, secular progressive people are always right. But how do we know that? I am glad you asked. Everyone knows that, and especially liberal, educated, literate, intelligent, secular progressive people.

Please, do not be so naïve as to not know that. Exactly what part of liberal, educated, literate, intelligent, secular progressive do you not understand?

Hence, “W” was responsible for just about everything bad that happened in America during the last 8 years. You can cite the big things, like his unilateral decision to invade Iraq. His pretext of using “weapons of mass destruction” to invade Iraq when everyone knew there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

There is his incredible arrogance in declaring “Mission Accomplished” when he didn’t know his butt from a hole in the ground, and, of course, his inhumane disregard for the innocent women and children he was ultimately responsible for killing in Iraq by starting an illegal, unwarranted war on another country.

There are also the lesser sins of “W”. A flooding in any state naturally came as a result of “W” ignoring the warnings of global warming; a lot of flooding in the Midwest, for example, came from ice caps melting in the Arctic Circle.

A botched abortion on a 12-year-old girl in a back alley is clearly the result of “W” trying to restrict the use and distribution and contraceptives to young girls who have made an innocent mistake in judgment. Any understanding, compassionate person would understand this. What exactly was “W’s” problem?

In the face of all of this, “W” just sat there, consumed by his own stupid self, ignoring the great advice and counsel he was receiving, and continued to do what he thought was right for America, just like he didn’t know any better. It makes you wonder just how stupid some people are, not to mention a President.

It is an amazing and equally irrelevant fact that there were no more terrorist attacks or successful terrorist attacks in the United States after 9-11 during the 7 years “W” was continuing to serve as President of the United States. Some people are stone, cold lucky; it is amazing how coincidence favors lucky people.

The citizens who voted for Bush to serve a second term as President of the United States got exactly what they deserved. They re-elected a stupid, incompetent President who did not have the good sense to shut down the war and pull out of Iraq, thus allowing the United States to save face with its allies. He also refused to negotiate a peace treaty with the terrorist organizers who planned the attack that killed 3,000 of our citizens. He neglected to apologize to the leaders of every country around the world who did not support him in his madness.

This is exactly what you get when you elect some stupid, incompetent President who is really a bigger terrorist than the focus groups he is attacking, the so-called terrorists. Do I need to remind you who really planned the 9-11 attack so a war could be started in Iraq to take over and control its oil deposits?

I mean, really, doesn’t the Constitution of the United States clearly state that there is freedom of religion? That you must allow people to worship as they wish, and be compassionate and understanding even if their beliefs require them to kill people who do not agree with their religious beliefs, or their political point of view?

“W” is now history. He will fade into the woodwork soon and be forgotten by the liberal, secular progressives as quickly as throwing out yesterday’s garbage after dinner.

And yet, I wonder. Whenever I hear a man or woman express hatred, I wonder just what it is in a person that causes him or her to hate so much. It seems to me that you cannot express hatred for anything or anybody unless you make use of the supply of hatred within yourself. The only hatred you can really express is your own personal possession. Just how much hatred can you express without it affecting you? Is there anything good that has ever come from hatred?

In the end, you can only give what you have. If you are filled up with love, you can give love. If you are filled up with hate, you can give hatred. You can admonish a person’s thought process, decision-making ability and errant behavior without hating the person.

Hating someone is like giving yourself poison in a fit of retribution.

Bristol Palin refused to comment to White Rabbit Cult when we requested an interview to ask about her recent cosmetic surgery. A spokemen for the Palin family did reply with a statement that Bristol’s breast were actually larger due to her continued breast feeding of her son, Tripp Johnston.

Tripp, the son of Bristol Palin and her boyfriend Levi Johnston, is derived from a Palin family pattern of giving sons names that begin with “Tr …” – Trig and Track are Tripp’s uncles. The pattern is catchy and may cement the child’s family bonds – or not.

“They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil,” Robertson said Wednesday on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s 700 Club.

Insensitive and stupid as it was, this is hardly the first time Robertson has spewed such ridiculous apocalyptic revelations.

He told the Pennsylvania town of Dover in 2005 that disaster might strike there because its citizens voted out school board members who favored teaching intelligent design over the theory of evolution. That same year, he said Hurricane Katrina was sent by God as a punishment for America’s legalization of abortion.

Robertson’s babble is not to be confused with real religious philosophy. He’s nothing more than a nut job peddling an extreme right-wing world view.

President Rene Preval says he believes thousands of people are dead even as other officials give much higher estimates – though they were based on the extent of the destruction rather than firm counts of the dead.

His prime minister, Jean-Max Bellerive, tells CNN: “I believe we are well over 100,000,” while leading senator Youri Latortue tells The Associated Press that 500,000 could be dead. Both admit they have no way of knowing.

The magnitude-7 quake struck Tuesday afternoon.

“Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed,” Preval told the Miami Herald. “There are a lot of schools that have a lot of dead people in them.”

Even the main prison in the capital fell, “and there are reports of escaped inmates,” U.N. humanitarian spokeswoman Elisabeth Byrs said in Geneva.

The Roman Catholic archbishop of Port-au-Prince was among the dead, and the head of the U.N. peacekeeping mission was missing.

Children Suffering in Haiti

The international Red Cross said a third of Haiti’s 9 million people may need emergency aid and that it would take a day or two for a clear picture of the damage to emerge.

At first light Wednesday, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter evacuated four critically injured U.S. Embassy staff to the hospital on the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the military has been detaining suspected terrorists for the last seven years.

President Barack H. Obama promised an all-out rescue and humanitarian effort, adding that the U.S. commitment to its hemispheric neighbor will be unwavering.

“We have to be there for them in their hour of need,” Obama said.

Other nations – from Iceland to Venezuela – said they would start sending in aid workers and rescue teams. Cuba said its existing field hospitals in Haiti had already treated hundreds of victims. The United Nations said Port-au-Prince’s main airport was “fully operational” and open to relief flights.

The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson, got under way and is expected to arrive off the coast of Haiti Thursday. Additional U.S. Navy ships are under way to Haiti, a statement from the U.S. Southern Command said.

Aftershocks continued to rattle the capital of 2 million people as women covered in dust clawed out of debris, wailing. Stunned people wandered the streets holding hands. Thousands gathered in public squares to sing hymns.

Man stands amid massive field of death in Haiti.

People pulled bodies from collapsed homes, covering them with sheets by the side of the road. Passers-by lifted the sheets to see if loved ones were underneath. Outside a crumbled building, the bodies of five children and three adults lay in a pile.

The prominent died along with the poor: the body of Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot, 63, was found in the ruins of his office, said the Rev. Pierre Le Beller of the Saint Jacques Missionary Center in Landivisiau, France. He told The Associated Press by telephone that fellow missionaries in Haiti had told him they found Miot’s body.

Preval told the Herald that Haiti’s Senate president was among those trapped alive inside the Parliament building. Much of the National Palace pancaked on itself.

The international Red Cross and other aid groups announced plans for major relief operations in the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country.

Many will have to help their own staff as well as stricken Haitians. Taiwan said its embassy was destroyed and the ambassador hospitalized. Spain said its embassy was badly damaged.

Tens of thousands of people lost their homes as buildings that were flimsy and dangerous even under normal conditions collapsed. Nobody offered an estimate of the dead, but the numbers were clearly enormous.

“The hospitals cannot handle all these victims,” said Dr. Louis-Gerard Gilles. “Haiti needs to pray. We all need to pray together.”

An American aid worker was trapped for about 10 hours under the rubble of her mission house before she was rescued by her husband, who told CBS’ “Early Show” that he drove 100 miles (160 kilometers) to Port-au-Prince to find her. Frank Thorp said he dug for more than an hour to free his wife, Jillian, and a co-worker, from under about a foot of concrete.

An estimated 40,000-45,000 Americans live in Haiti, and the U.S. Embassy had no confirmed reports of deaths among its citizens. All but one American employed by the embassy have been accounted for, State Department officials said.

Even relatively wealthy neighborhoods were devastated.

An AP videographer saw a wrecked hospital where people screamed for help in Petionville, a hillside district that is home to many diplomats and wealthy Haitians as well as the poor.

At a destroyed four-story apartment building, a girl of about 16 stood atop a car, trying to see inside while several men pulled at a foot sticking from rubble. She said her family was inside.

“A school near here collapsed totally,” Petionville resident Ken Michel said after surveying the damage. “We don’t know if there were any children inside.” He said many seemingly sturdy homes nearby were split apart.

The U.N.’s 9,000 peacekeepers in Haiti, many of whom are from Brazil, were distracted from aid efforts by their own tragedy: Many spent the night hunting for survivors in the ruins of their headquarters.

“It would appear that everyone who was in the building, including my friend Hedi Annabi, the United Nations’ secretary-general’s special envoy, and everyone with him and around him, are dead,” French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on RTL radio.

But U.N. peacekeeping chief Alain Le Roy would not confirm that Annabi was dead, saying he was among more than 100 people missing in its wrecked headquarters. He said only about 10 people had been pulled out, many of them badly injured. Fewer than five bodies had been removed, he said.

U.N. peacekeeping forces in Port-au-Prince are securing the airport, the port, main buildings and patrolling the streets, Le Roy said.

Brazil’s army said at least 11 of its peacekeepers were killed, while Jordan’s official news agency said three of its peacekeepers were killed. A state newspaper in China said eight Chinese peacekeepers were known dead and 10 were missing – though officials later said the information was not confirmed.

The quake struck at 4:53 p.m., centered 10 miles (15 kilometers) west of Port-au-Prince at a depth of only 5 miles (8 kilometers), the U.S. Geological Survey said. USGS geophysicist Kristin Marano called it the strongest earthquake since 1770 in what is now Haiti.

Video obtained by the AP showed a huge dust cloud rising over Port-au-Prince shortly after the quake as buildings collapsed.

Most Haitians are desperately poor, and after years of political instability the country has no real construction standards. In November 2008, following the collapse of a school in Petionville, the mayor of Port-au-Prince estimated about 60 percent of buildings were shoddily built and unsafe normally.

The quake was felt in the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, and in eastern Cuba, but no major damage was reported in either place.

With electricity out in many places and phone service erratic, it was nearly impossible for Haitian or foreign officials to get full details of the devastation.

“Everybody is just totally, totally freaked out and shaken,” said Henry Bahn, a U.S. Department of Agriculture official in Port-au-Prince. “The sky is just gray with dust.”

Edwidge Danticat, an award-winning Haitian-American author was unable to contact relatives in Haiti. She sat with family and friends at her home in Miami, looking for news on the Internet and watching TV news reports.

“You want to go there, but you just have to wait,” she said. “Life is already so fragile in Haiti, and to have this on such a massive scale, it’s unimaginable how the country will be able to recover from this.”

Man searches for relative among the dead in Haiti

The success of her recently released autobiography as well as the media’s breathless reporting on her statements and Facebook musings have made her one of the nation’s top news voices and a force to be reckoned with.

While Ms. Palin will probably never be president, it’s clear that many of her critics have underestimated her ability to tap into the grievances and discontent of large social and geographic blocs in the country.

Palin’s appeal no longer straddles simple political lines, but broader cultural ones: This is because she is no longer a politician but a pop culture icon and a celebrity. She has transcended politics, opening new career doors.

Let’s examine the Fox News deal from Palin’s perspective. Palin is a true, Hollywood-type celebrity with a bestselling book and millions of adoring fans. She may have designs on the presidency, but she evidently wants to soak up the perks and adulation of her celebrity first, and she has done that with gusto.

Palin’s resignation as governor of Alaska last summer was abrupt and unusual, but seen through the lens of celebrity, it is understandable. The isolated confines of Juneau were too small for Palin when she returned following the presidential election. She could not go home again.

But Palin’s strident, conservative manner, her deep Republican stripes, and her penchant for publicity make her a superb fit for television and a natural fit for Fox News.

This is not a novel idea, but in light of Palin’s lasting hold on the national stage, it appears a match perfectly suited to both parties commercially and ideologically. A regular slot on Fox News would be an immediate sensation and it would expand Palin’s imprint on the national stage, giving her a place to build and shape her public persona.

Palin’s aggressive partisanship wouldn’t work for network television, nor CNN or left-leaning MSNBC. That leaves Fox, which, as America’s most popular cable news channel, provides the best platform for Palin to cement the adoration of her most fervent supporters among Fox’s viewer base as well as keep her relevant.

She could easily be paid millions there to do what she does best: delighting Republicans and infuriating Democrats. She could also use the new job to strengthen her public conversational and oratorical skills.

And therein lies why Fox News Channel is bringing on Palin. Her star power would be an immediate ratings bonanza.

The reasons for a Palin-Fox marriage can be traced to how Fox and its leadership in the form of the News Channel president Roger Ailes thinks. Mr. Ailes, a brilliant former Republican operative, has infused a Republican viewpoint into the channel’s programming, as evidenced by its lineup of Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and even Palin’s potential presidential rival Mike Huckabee, who hosts a low-profile weekend show.

“Governor Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the Fox News lineup,” said Bill Shine, executive vice president of programming.

Another reason this is such a great fit for both Palin and Fox? Both appear to enjoy upsetting and besting Democrats. Officially, of course, they both claim otherwise: “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news,” Palin said in a written release.

At Fox, Palin could sit in a comfy studio in stylish clothing, holding court before America and dispensing sharp political observations and nuggets of stinging disdain for Democratic initiatives. No other major guests or political pundits would be necessary; Palin would be the unquestioned star.

In fact, this announced hiring could merely be a test run for giving Palin her own prime-time show. Fox could call the program “Sarah!” and slot it at 6:30 p.m. opposite the ABC, CBS, and NBC nightly news programs. No doubt “Sarah!” would get higher ratings than the big three, at least initially.

For a one-time insurgent channel that was birthed to provide a counterweight to perceived liberal media bias, the show would be the ultimate insult to the so-called elite media and its adherents, a delicious prospect to Ailes.

General chatter about Palin’s political future misses the point. Just as David Beckham, Shaquille O’Neal, and others – athletes who arguably became more enamored of celebrity than the sports they played – Palin now seems more interested in being a star than a politician. Being a cable figure would allow her to continue this and solidify her conservative credentials to run for president down the road.

This was not expected to happen so soon, but now it is real. Obama sources confirm that the president will resign on the 1st of February and no reason has been given to the abrubt end of his presidency.

Obama’s abysmal poll results of late prompted this sudden decision.

Many world leaders got a rude shock a few minutes ago when they got a “Top Secret” mail informing them on the intended resignation.

Obama will attend G20 summit in the UK soon and while there, he is expected to inform world leaders about the decision to resign.

Insiders contacted by White Rabbit Cult say Obama will resign because his push of things in Washington is not moving fast as he wanted because Washingtonians are not used to Obama’s way of handling things “quick-mannerly”.

Observers however have a different opinion. They think Obama’s resignation is due to the fact that many are calling for his impeachment because of the way he is handling issues in the White House.

The Democrats are reported to be in shock and although it is expected that the Vice president is to take over, there will be a battle before such a thing happens. Many Democrats would like to by-pass the constitution and elect Mrs Hillary Clinton to take over instead of Vice President Biden. They argue that Clinton got many votes and should lead the country now that Obama has decided to resign.

The poll, by CBS News, found Obama at 50% last month, and this is the first time he’s slipped below that mark in the news outfit’s survey.

It’s not the only place Obama is treading water. The Gallup daily tracking poll has the commander-in-chief at 49% this morning.

Obama still has fewer people disapproving of his job performance, with that number at just 41% in the CBS findings.

But CBS pollster Charles Cooper notes that’s not good, especially since the poor ratings seem linked to the President trying to make good on his biggest campaign promises, bringing change and passing health care reform.

Just 36% like the way he’s handled health care reform, against 54% who disapprove.

“The irony is that President Obama’s job approval ratings have suffered even as he has tried to push through an ambitious agenda in Congress to force the very change he promised,” Cooper says in his analysis. “If you interpret the numbers as an interim report card, this isn’t one to trumpet.”

And it’s just one more bit of evidence of why Democrats really want to get health care reform done, and soon.

On the plus side for Obama, the survey finds 52% of the country approves of the way the President is handling terrorism, and 57% thinks he did well with the Christmas underwear bomber.

Some commentators, most notably conservative columnist George Will, a regular panelist on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” have already argued as much. Bohrer, who wrote in The Huffington Post: “Honest-to-God initial reaction to the furor over Harry Reid’s comments: ‘And?’” As he pointed out, in the 1960s, the term was no more pejorative than “black” or “African-American” is today, and some older African-Americans still use it.

“Then again, none of these men are players in the political game, let alone at the stratospheric level Harry Reid is,” he continued.

Other commentators both left and right have also suggested the flap over Reid’s comments as reported in “Game Change” is overblown. In her essay trashing Republicans for blasting Reid in the liberal online journal Salon, Joan Walsh notes that “having a black president means that issues that some black people think can only be discussed in their community are going to come out in the open. For better, or worse, and in this case, I think better.” After noting that Reid has no doubt learned his lesson here, she defends his realpolitik: “But if progressive racial-justice Democrats don’t think politicians of every race size up the field in terms of competitive advantage — and sadly, even today, accord advantage to African-Americans who put white folks at ease, speak “white” or “standard” English, and even, yes, look “less non-white” — we’re kidding ourselves.

In his essay on the subject on FoxNews.com, Fox News political analyst Brit Hume also agreed with the substance of Reid’s assessment of Obama, calling it praise of his electability. “But,” he continued, “he was certainly not praising the American electorate, whom Senator Reid seems to view as still so infected by racism that only a black who doesn’t quite seem black could ever be elected president.”

For his part, Reid is eager to put the whole affair behind him. Yesterday, he told reporters, “I’ll continue to do my work for the African-American community. …I’m not going to dwell on this anymore.”

Thousands are flocking to her book-signing tour, including a November stop at Noblesville’s Hamilton Commons (granted, that’s friendly territory, given that a convention of Hamilton County Democrats could be held in a voting booth). For all the targeted trash she took during the campaign, Palin has captured the imagination and admiration of much of the populace.

“Going Rogue” lays the background for whom Sarah Palin is — an Alaska native very much a part of the state’s culture, who put her tenacity to work as its chief executive before John McCain tapped her to be his running mate.

Unknown outside Alaska, she was, like Indiana’s Dan Quayle in 1988, branded a lightweight.

No mainstream politician, Palin. That proved both a blessing and a curse. It got her elected to the highest office in the 49th state, unseating a sitting governor of her own party. A fiscal conservative, she rejected much of the state’s sacred-cow spending and pushed for responsible use of Alaska’s rich store of natural resources, including oil.

But it also made her a target of foes from the right and the left, as she explains in the book. She cites endless legal harassment — none of which has ultimately been upheld — as driving her to terminate her governorship early.

Palin tells her side of the story on most of the high-profile issues that surfaced during her vice presidential campaign. She discovered the hard way how national campaigns are managed as her handlers followed the dictum to first do no harm. With the McCain-Palin campaign trailing to start with and making little headway as it heated up, it is difficult to imagine how turning a maverick loose could have caused further harm.

And with the media complying with Barack Obama’s request to leave his family alone, Palin was understandably chagrined at probes and swipes at her own family. She tells of the endless times her doctor had to tell media-types that, yes, she was the real mother of Trig, the special needs baby with whom many have identified.

She carefully avoids going into detail about daughter Bristol’s erstwhile boyfriend beyond the basics of Bristol’s much-publicized pregnancy and unwed motherhood (later Bristol was criticized for encouraging premarital abstinence, as if “don’t make the same mistake I did” were an invalid stance).

What now? For the moment the book tour will suffice. There are many who encourage her to mount her own presidential campaign. And certainly she has the base for it.

But even many of her staunch supporters wonder if that is enough to carry the swing votes among a notoriously skeptical electorate.

Don’t count her out just yet. As her father, Chuck Heath Sr., said, “Sarah’s not retreating; she’s reloading.”

President Barack Obama got a briefing this morning from his homeland security advisor, John Brennan, about the government’s terrorism watchlist — a review that the president ordered after the attempted bombing of a U.S.-bound airlner on Christmas Day, the first day of his family’s holiday vacation in Hawaii.

The Obama family headed off for an early New Year’s Eve movie, arriving at the Windward Mall in Honolulu shortly after 9 a.m HST — for Avatar.

The 3-D adventure flick is set in 2154 and features blue aliens and distant planets. It has been described by some as a criticism of the war in Iraq. There are no clues as to whether Obama will agree with that comparison — the press traveling with the president were not invited into the theater. Neither was anyone else, as the first family had reserved the movie theater.

This is a long New Year’s Eve for the president, however. He still will be reviewing results of the two-day review that he ordered up after the attempted bombing of a flight bound for Detroit last Friday.

The president said in a statement from Hawaii today that he spoke with Brennan about “preliminary assessments from the ongoing consultations I have ordered into the human and systemic failures that occurred leading up to the attempted act of terrorism on Christmas Day and about our government-wide efforts at continued vigilance on homeland security and counterterrorism efforts.”

He also spoke with Janet Napolitano, the secretary of Homeland Security who initially had said on Sunday that the “system worked” after the thwarted attack and then allowed the next day that the system hadn’t worked. Obama has admitted to “human and systemic failures” in intelligence and security that led to a near catastrophe.

“I anticipate receiving assessments from several agencies this evening and will review those tonight and over the course of the weekend,” the president said today. Next week he will meet personally with agency heads to review ongoing “security enhancements and intelligence-sharing improvements in our homeland security and counterterrorism operations.”

No word on the movie.
