RS GAB MOTORSPORTS is an online marketing affliated division of RS ONE AUTO PARTS SDN BHD. Its function is to promote brand awareness for GAB products, and to penetrate more market areas that conventional sales channels cannot cover.

Started in 1996, RS ONE which is in its 8 years operation now, started by importing GAB™ suspensions. The disadvantages of importing new CBU sets from Japan were the price being too high, there was no manufacturer's warranty and not serviceable.

By 1998 we imported parts and assembled suspensions locally. The benefit of this was lower prices, came with manufacturer's warranty and serviceable. Our GAB™ suspension has been a trademark registered in Malaysia.

We started our own manufacturing plant which also repairs and services suspension. This would provide a better service to the dealers and also customers.

We also deal with performance and racing parts, meters, electronic parts and accessories.

Many of you would have watched the new advertisement by Perodua several days ago. Perodua is releasing a new version to replace their older models of Kelisa and Kancil. Rumor has it that the new Perodua D18B would be named Perodua ViVa.

How big is it? how fast it would go? which design it would take? how much will it cost? how many kilometers per liter? and so on.. The questions that emerges regarding Perodua ViVa would be infinite.

To answer most of the questions, myperodua has sent our troops to a nearby Perodua dealer to dig out more information about the car. Here are some of the info we got about Perodua ViVa compared to Perodua MyVi, it ain’t much, but should be suffice for the time being.

Perodua Viva’s Pros againts Perodua MyVi

1. Interior lenght would be slightly longer
2. Fuel consumption is better (17.4km/l)
3. Cheaper (of course). (*rumor* 1.0HG is RM38k)
4. Bigger brake lights (guess would be something like Kenari)

Perodua Viva’s Cons againts Perodua MyVi
1. Interior width is slightly less wide
2. 660cc and 850cc version might be underpower
3. Design-wise, less attractive (but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder)
4. Possibility of cost reduction parts?

Well, our troops seems to get only that for the time being. We also got the new Perodua Viva specification list (spec).

The most important step in choosing your rims is in the specifications. It is crucial to proper operation and performance that the rims fit your ride properly. These specs include the rim diameter, width, bolt pattern, and offset. The rim diameter is the size of the rim measured across its center. Most enthusiasts look for something that's a couple of inches bigger than the factory diameter to help "fill in" the space in the rim well. The width refers to the distance from the inner lip to the outer lip of the rim as viewed from the top. Original equipment rims are typically a bit too narrow to achieve optimal performance results. A slightly wider rim gives you the ability to install a wider tire, increasing the amount of tread on the pavement and improving traction and cornering performance. The bolt pattern specifies the configuration of lug holes both in total number (4-bolt / 5-bolt / 6-bolt), and the distance between them across the center of the rim. For instance, a rim with a 4:100 bolt pattern has 4 lug holes spaced 100mm apart when measured from the center of the rim. Auto manufacturers use several different arrangements depending the make and model. The offset is the measured distance between the rims mounting surface on the hub, and the centerline of the rim. It's responsible for the fitment of the rim in the wheel well from side to side. It's critical, especially on lowered vehicles, that the offset is correct for the application to keep the tires from rubbing on the edge of the fenders when the suspension travels downward. It is measured in high (positive), medium (zero), and low (negative) ratings

I like this myvi sport rim design. The colour of this myvi is the mixed type paint job.

As you can see, this car owner is under b1bodykitclub. I dont think there is other people using the spoiler like this in this world.

This modification on perodua myvi is better with the suzuki swift look alike bodykit. With diffuser and front bumper spoiler.

At the back, it has a simple but stylish touch up on its rear bumper with two exhaust, rear door/ bonnet for toyota passo and a simple small GT wing.

Looking at the plate number, this is actually a new car bought in 2008! Oh! i wouldn’t do this to my new car. Fully painted with airbrush design.

About Car Performance

Power from the Myvi is boring no more. Speedworks comes out with a Performance Kit to bring out the manhood in the car.

Even after more than a year since its' unveiling, I still get asked about my opinions regarding the Perodua Myvi. Not to take anything away from this hot selling model, but my answer is always the same- that it is a rather purposeful car, a good buy but not exactly a car I can fully enjoy driving above normal limits.

The reason for that is the car's civilized handling qualities. By the way, my answer above would usually be followed by “… it's not exactly like the Savvy”. Yes, I know that I've publicized my longing for a manufacturer, any manufacturer for that matter to come out with a dirt cheap simple car that will meet the needs of ‘second-car' buyers. But practicality is also important in this case, and the lack of significant boot space reduces the Myvi's role as merely another car that looks cute. But surely, there has to be some way to make the car interesting performance-wise, at least by virtue of sales volume the Myvi enjoys alone.

The most obvious path of course comes from the Passo and Boon, both of which lets in the Daihatsu YRV turbo engine shoehorned into its engine bay. But then again, how many of us have actually seen the K3-VET engine used this way? In fact, how many of this turbo engine has been brought into the country? I wouldn't be surprised if the number is naught. So where does that leave us?

Going NA and try wring every drop of juice from the powerplant is not a very popular method nowadays. But it certainly is refined and a lot more challenging to say the least. The trouble then would be waiting for a party to step up to the plate and actually giving a boost for the diminutive power delivery. Some have shown some progress, but a simple exhaust swap for a negligible horsepower increase barely makes it interesting. So when Speedworks called the office the other day, the substance of the conversation consequently led me in the driving seat of their 1.3 liter Myvi complete with a custom developed performance kit.

Subaru Justy: Rebadged Daihatsu Sirion/Perodua Myvi gets racy upgrades

Subaru has revealed a newly improved Justy 1.0R which is basically a re-badged version of the Daihatsu Sirion which is known in Malaysia as the Perodua Myvi.

This newly “improved” version, designated as the Justy 1.0 Twin Cam Special Edition carries a limited production run of 100 units only, with 50 finished in Black Mica and another 50 in Shinning Red.

With a base price of £9,995 which is about £700 more than the standard 1.0R, the Twin Cam Special Edition is powered by the same 68HP 3 cylinder engine found in the 1.0R, and is treated to a rear roof spoiler, twin exhaust system, over roof ‘viper stripes’ and side decals, leather and alloy gear knob and rear privacy glass.

As standard, just like the 1.0R model, it features ABS with EBD, radio/CD player with AUX input, four electric windows and remote central-locking. There are also driver, passenger, front side and curtain airbags. Potential buyers can also opt for 15-inch Monza R alloy wheels wrapped with Toyo 185/55R15 tires for an extra £ 600.

Just the Myvi we have back at home, it is also one of the cheapest vehicles to run in Europe with a 64.2 miles to the gallon fuel consumption figure based on the Extra Urban Cycle and an annual £ 35 Road Fund License fee. Subaru also further revealed that “The new Justy 1.0 Twin Cam now offers even more, and offers a racy alternative for the younger, and the young-at-heart, motorist”.

Myvi Symbol Of Successful Malaysia-Japan Automotive Cooperation, Says Envoy

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- The Perodua Myvi is a symbol of the successful Malaysia-Japan Automotive Industry Cooperation (MAJAICO), the Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, Masahiko Horie said.

He said the Perodua Myvi was launched on May 25, 2005 and within just two years, had become the Malaysian Car of The Year.

"What is interesting about the Myvi is that,it is the perfect joint-venture cooperation between Malaysia and Japan," he told Bernama in an interview.

Horie disclosed how in order to realise the Myvi project, 500 Malaysian experts were sent to Japan, to learn to make a better and innovative car.

The experts, he said, spent two and a half years to produce the design for the Perodua Myvi.

"It was entirely a product of Japanese and Malaysian experts working together to create the Myvi design," Horie said.

He added that the prototype for the Perodua Myvi was the Daihatsu Boon.

He said that 80 percent of the spare parts for the Myvi was locally made.

"The Perodua Myvi is a very good example of what joint cooperation between Japan and Malaysia can achieve.

"This MAJAICO project has also been appreciated by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry or MITI, who are very grateful for the assistance of the Japanese experts.

"I hope the cooperation between Japan and Malaysian in the automotive sector can be further expanded so that more, better selling and quality cars can be produced in future," Horie said.

He said a Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was signed between Malaysia and Japan three years ago and 10 different committees were established to improve and enhance the business environment in both countries.

According to Horie, one of the important committees was MAJAICO, which is composed of many different components.

He explained that in order to promote the Malaysian automotive industry and make it more competitive while producing better quality products, he said Japan had sent over 15 experts.

"They were sent despatched to the different automotive companies.They were also assigned to manufacturers producing spare parts for Perodua, Proton and other car makers like Toyota and Mitsubishi.

"We did this in cooperation with the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC), MITI and other Malaysian authorities," he added.

Inflation - Figures that Go Up And Up

THE prices of basic necessities such as food, clothes, housing and cars are dramatically higher now compared with those of 50 years ago. Of course, Malaysia today is a lot different than what it was in 1957. Back then, it had 6.28 million people. Today, the population is 27.7 million and our lifestyle has vastly improved.

With the strong economic growth since independence, comes the increase in the prices of goods and services.

Based on rough calculations, the prices of food, houses, cars and apparel have seen a compounded annual growth rate of between 3.7% and 9.02% over the past 50 years.

For instance, a Damansara Heights bungalow with 7,000 sq ft built-up area cost about RM40,000 in the 1960s. It has since appreciated to above RM3mil, given that the location is a prime area in Kuala Lumpur.

A popular vehicle in the 1960s, such as the 1.2 litre Datsun 1200, was priced at about RM7,000. Now, the 1.3 litre Perodua Myvi standard model costs RM43,000. It must be noted though that until the 1990s, cars had not come with fancy features such as high-tech fuel injection systems, power steering and windows, airbags and central locking.

In the 1960s, people paid 15 sen for a cup of coffee at a restaurant or coffee shop. Today, they have to fork out RM1.20 to RM1.50. That is a compounded annual growth rate of 4.71%.

Arrow, an American brand of men’s shirts was sold for about RM10 in the 1960s. The price was gradually increased to RM15 in the 1970s, RM20 in the 1980s and RM40 in the 90s. Now the shirt costs you about RM90 a piece.

Do Malaysians’ salary increases match the rising prices?

In the 1960s, civil servants earned about RM100 to RM150 a month. Today, their basic salary has reached about RM2,000. That reflects a compounded growth rate of 6.17% over 50 years.

However, with the continued rising prices, a father of two who earns a net monthly income of RM3,000 in Malaysia, especially in the Klang Valley, may struggle to stay afloat. After deducting for his EPF contribution, income tax, house and car repayments, and other expenses (meals, petrol, utility and phone bills, daily necessities), he will have little left for savings, if at all.

So, while the uptrend in prices is generally seen as a sign that the country is developing fast and that its people enjoy a higher living standard, can Malaysians cope with the high prices of the necessities, especially during a financial crisis?

According to a property agent contacted by StarBizWeek, the average salary is actually very far off the affordability mark for house prices, especially in the strategic locations in Klang Valley. “It is a big gap and it is rather difficult for people to catch up with the rising prices,” he says.

Top Gear has not only done a review on the Proton cars from Malaysia but also on the second national car manufacturer, Perodua. It didn't escape Top Gear's melancholic eyes.

What was Top Gear's verdict on the Perodua brands? Here goes nothing again (the following write-ups and pictures were sourced from Top Gear's website):-

It may be true that you get what you pay for, but it doesn’t follow that the cheapest cars are the best value. These appallingly under-developed, outdated and plain ugly offerings come from Malaysia’s least desirable brand. Think about it – that means even if you’re doggedly pro-Malaysia, you don’t have to buy one of these.

Perodua Kelisa
‘The cheapest car Malaysia’s cheaper manufacturer produces. Doesn’t fill you with confidence does it?’

The Perodua Kelisa may be the cheapest supermini on sale in the UK, but it will never feel like a bargain. A wheezy little engine, cramped interior, crappy plastics and truly rubbish styling leave you wondering who on earth actually buys this stuff.

An astonishing feat – Britain’s cheapest car is so humblingly bad it’s not even worth the pocket money it costs. So poor it deserves to benefit from the next Comic Relief.

Perodua Kenari
‘As much as we all want to cheer on the underdog, the Kenari deserves all the abuse it gets. An utter shambles.’

A deeply embarrassing car to be seen in, or near for that matter, but in truth the weird looking and weirdly named Perodua Kenari is actually quite capable and an undeniable bargain to boot.

Looks like it ought to have plenty of room inside but is actually pitifully cramped – like the Tardis in reverse. Except that the Tardis looks more like a car than this.

Perodua MYVI
‘A compelling argument for never learning to drive. Concerned fathers take note.’

Although they have made a far better fist of styling the Perodua Myvi than they did with the ridiculous Kelisa and Kenari, it still feels staggeringly cheap and lacks any trace of desirability.

Named after a classic ice lolly, but not as sweet, desirable or long lasting. Costs about the same though. There’s an old Toyota Yaris underneath. Get one of those instead.

Aftermarket intakes help the engine inhale plenty of fresh, cold air. Once that air is mixed with fuel and exploded in the engine, it has to go out the exhaust system. Just as with us carbon-based types, smooth exhaling is vitally important to your engine.

A typical stock exhaust system is made up of the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, muffler, and various lengths of piping to connect them all. The problem with stock exhausts is that they're designed for just about everything except performance: the good folks at the car companies design their exhaust systems to conform to be as quiet, environmentally friendly, and inexpensive as possible. While I'm all for peace and quiet and blue skies and all that, there's nothing I like more than the happy sound of a kick in exhaust zooming its way down the highway, you feel me?

When it comes to performance exhaust, we want big pipes with as few restrictions as possible in order to avoid back pressure. Think of blowing hard through a drinking straw versus through a 2" pipe -- big difference! Back pressure robs your engine of power because instead of directing energy at the crankshaft, your engine has to push the exhaust out under pressure. The greater the pressure, the greater the power loss. Some back pressure is inevitable, but there's a lot you can do to a stock exhaust system to minimize it. Today, we're gonna take a look at replacing the exhaust manifold with an aftermarket header.

Headers are purely performance-based upgrades. Not only are their pipes bigger than stock, but each cylinder gets its own specially tuned pipe. Tuned pipes? Yep! The lengths, curves, and inside diameters of header pipes are specially designed to follow the rhythm of your engine's exhaust valves so that every time a cylinder expels air, an empty header pipe awaits. So, there's very little back pressure for the pistons to work against.

There are a lot of different exhaust headers for sale. They boil down to two main types -- stainless steel and ceramic-coated. Stainless steel headers provide a smooth surface for the quickest possible airflow. They usually are shiny when new, but don't expect that to last! Ceramic-coated headers are usually stainless steel or cast-iron headers that have been coated with a heat-resistant coating that keeps your engine bay a bit cooler. You'll also notice that most headers have a design in which the four exhaust pipes join into two bigger pipes, and then the two join into one final pipe that connects to the rest of your exhaust system. This "4-2-1" design is pretty standard, and most of these headers will be street-legal. Most headers that have a single "4 into 1" collector are designed for full-on racing and are likely not emission-legal.

Like the exhaust manifold, the header bolts right up to the engine block using the same bolts. If your exhaust bolts are really rusted, you might want to find replacements for them at an auto parts dealer or hardware store--headers almost never come with their own bolts. While you're at the auto parts store, you should also be sure to pick up a new exhaust gasket.

You can expect to see a gain of about 3 to 4 horsepower right out of the box. Of course, if you replace the full exhaust system, you can expect another 2 to 4 horsepower (not to mention that sweet growl we all love).

An exhaust header is another one of those simple, do-it-yourself ways to bolt on horsepower. Once you've helped your engine breathe more freely, you'll be eager to take a look at other aftermarket mods.

The Myvi was made available in five variations Automotive package: 1.0SR (5 speed manual), 1.3SX (5 speed manual), 1.3EZ (4 speed auto), 1.3SXi (5 speed manual), and 1.3EZi "Premium" (4 speed auto). A Myvi "Special Edition" was also made available, featuring a bodykit encompassing modified bumpers, sideskirts and a spoiler. The Myvi was also made available with dual airbags and ABS (Anti-lock braking system).

Performance and design

The Myvi boasts either one of two water-cooled, four-stroke engines derived from the first generation Daihatsu Sirion: A 1.0 litre EJ-VE engine with three in-line cylinders Straight-3, or the Toyota Passo: 1.3 litre K3-VE engine with four in-line cylinders; both engines employ dynamic variable valve timing (DVVT) systems and conventional electronic fuel injection (EFI).

In addition to raw performance, features previously uncommon on Perodua cars were inherited from the Sirion to the Myvi. Among them are 4-hole injectors, foamed urethane injected to the A-pillar, centre pillar and B-pillar for noised insulation, immobiliser systems and pedestrian injury reduction body construction. Other notable features include underbody air flow regulating items, resin intake manifolds and cylinder head covers integrated with air cleaner cases (for 1.0 engines) and flexible flywheels for reduced vibration during running (for manual transmission).

2008 facelift

On August 22, 2008, an updated Perodua Myvi was launched. The new Myvi features a modified front grille, front bumper, front bonnet, rear bumper, alloy rims, dashboard color, instrument panel design, MP3/WMA player and seat fabric. Its 1.3 Premium model additionally features new UV protection glass, a seat height adjuster, as well as a new audio system with USB
and Bluetooth capabilities.

A "Special Edition" of the new Perodua Myvi SE was also launched on October 10, 2008 with a new bumpers, clear taillights, smoked headlights, an amber instrument panel, leather seats, and a 2-DIN Compact Disc player with MP3, WMA, USB and Bluetooth support instead of an integrated unit. It is only available with a 1.3L engine with a manual or automatic transmission.

Reception

The launch of the Perodua Myvi was significant as it marked first time Perodua competed head-to-head with Proton, the first Malaysian national car maker, which would release a similarly classed Proton Savvy.

The Myvi 1.3 beat its rival, the Proton Savvy 1.2, as the "Car of the Year 2005/2006" by, a magazine for car buyers in Malaysia. The Edge Daily, a local financial news media reported that Myvi sales have far surpassed its initial expectations and has been selling extremely well since its rollout in April.

Proton's Savvy, available to the market a few months after the launch of the Myvi, had not affected Myvi sales. Observing the strong demand for the Myvi, it boosted sales of vehicles in the country and Perodua's market share in 2006. The Myvi is the best selling car for 2006 and 2007 in Malaysia.

Richard Hammond, a presenter on BBC's Top Gear, took the Perodua Myvi out for a spin , and he seems to be impressed:

"No jokes, this is a good-looking car. But if it looks familiar, that's because this is a Daihatsu Sirion in all but name. You see it costs billions to develop a new car - you design them on computers then build lots of them to crash into walls. So Perodua let someone else do it and spent their money sticking a new badge on it.
But they kept a bit back to spend on styling. Which is why, even though it shares bits and pieces with the Sirion, the Myvi is better looking...
...So under seven grand for a good-looking car, built in a factory shared with Toyota, which handles as well as a Yaris, does nearly 50mpg with a three-year warranty - yes please."

Export to Indonesia

The Perodua Myvi is exported to Indonesia and badged as the Daihatsu Sirion since April 2007. The Sirion in Indonesia does not use the global Sirion styling by Daihatsu, but uses Perodua's styling including the interiors, bumpers and lamps. It is only available in 1.3L version with two types of variants. Type-D offers basic spec while Type-M offers Aerokits and leather seats.
