The First Release of Filey Bay Yorkshire Single Malt Whisky from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery.

Yorkshires first ever Single Malt Whisky comes from a selection of 16 casks laid down in the summer of 2016. While casks are predominantly First fill Ex-bourbon there is a subtle Sherry influence. These contained both pot and column distillates and produced a yield of 6000 bottles.

Spirit of Yorkshire is a real field to bottle distillery, growing the barley on the family farm in Hunmanby.

With the Distillation process mentored by renowned whisky expert Dr. Jim Swan.

Macallan Private Eye with Miniature

This Macallan Private Eye with Miniature is a very rare and collectible distillery bottling of Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Bottled in 1996 for the 35th Anniversary of Private Eye magazine with a screen printed label by the illustrator Ralph Steadman famous for his gonzo art.
A vatting of casks including one from 1961 produced only 5000 bottles.

This is bottle 3351 of 5000 and comes complete with the original miniature.

As a result quickly becoming one of the most sort after bottles of whisky from the Macallan Distillery. Furthermore very rare to find one being sold with the miniature!

Nose : Citrus fruits are at the fore, mingling with smells evocative of the outdoors; a touch of seaweed hints at coastal character. Orchard fruits, white pepper, and a subtle dry note reminiscent of fino sherry make this a complex nose. A hint of burned pine wood is in the background.

Palate : A fizzing mouthfeel with sherbet character. A fresh spearmint note appears and mingles with warm bramley apple pie and ice cream. There is tangy lime marmalade with chilli pepper heat and a whiff of smoke from a just-lit fire of pine logs. The addition of water shows honey dew melon and pear drop sweets.

Finish : Distillery character shines through; notes of apples, citrus and good body are elongated by a backbone of subtle smoke.

A rare third and final release of this Limited Edition, Arran The Exciseman Smugglers Series Volume 3 Single Malt Whisky.

Nose : The rich honeyed character is immediate on the nose, luxuriously decadent. The fresh coastal character is also evident. Apples, vanilla and a touch of spice are also subtly present with a hint of toasted oak.
Palate : It coats the tongue and the notes of apple and vanilla are in abundance. No hint of dryness on the palate, it grows in sweet intensity and provides a rounded mouthfeel. The addition of water opens up the complexity beautifully and reveals a lighter sweetness of candied lemon.
Finish : Long, luxurious and yet delightfully fresh. The notes of apple and citrus give a lightness of character whilst the body remains solidly complex and robust. A typical Arran with an added layer of sweetness.

In 2010, twice a normal winter’s worth of snow fell on the Glenfiddich warehouse roofs in just a few weeks.

In the most remote part of the Distillery this snow now equivilent to the weight of a herd of elephants, collapsed and damaged several roofs.

The bright winter sky poured in, and standing amongst precious casks, The Malt Master Brian Kinsman was inspired to mark this moment in history.

Selecting and marrying the finest Oloroso and American oak casks from warehouses struck by this heavy snow, Snow Phoenix was created.

Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix Single Malt Whisky Tasting Notes :-

Creamy and vibrant on the nose, with honey and chocolate on the palate. And sherry notes mellowing into a long finish.

Created by chance, crafted by their expert.

Colour; Gold with bright copper highlights.

Nose: Creamy vanilla mixes with vibrant apple and pear, complemented by soft blossom.

Taste: Wild flavours – apples roasted in campfire embers, sweetened with heather honey and accompanied by a little chocolate. Rich and complex with a trace of burned sugar, coffee and wood smoke.

Finish: Exceptionally long. Austere sherry notes mellow into satisfying sweetness.

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) aka Robbie Burns, Rabbie Burns, often refered to as Scotland's favourite son, the Ploughman Poet, Robden of Solway Firth, the Bard of Ayrshire and in Scotland as The Bard was a Scottish poet and lyricist.

He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and a light Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these writings his political or civil commentary is often at its bluntest.

He is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement, and after his death he became a great source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism, and a cultural icon in Scotland and among the Scottish Diaspora around the world. Celebration of his life and work became almost a national charismatic cult during the 19th and 20th centuries, and his influence has long been strong on Scottish literature. In 2009 he was chosen as the greatest Scot by the Scottish public in a vote run by Scottish television channel STV.

As well as making original compositions, Burns also collected folk songs from across Scotland, often revising or adapting them. His poem (and song) "Auld Lang Syne" is often sung at Hogmanay (the last day of the year), and "Scots Wha Hae" served for a long time as an unofficial national anthem of the country. Other poems and songs of Burns that remain well known across the world today include "A Red, Red Rose"; "A Man's a Man for A' That"; "To a Louse"; "To a Mouse"; "The Battle of Sherramuir"; "Tam o' Shanter"; and "Ae Fond Kiss".

New Stills Arrive at Kingsbarns Lowland Distillery

The Kingsbarns Distillery and Visitor Centre, located in the East Neuk of Fife reached another milestone in its development as a new lowland distillery when the copper pot whisky stills arrived, having been hand-made by Forsyths of Rothes.

The Wash Still, weighing three and a half tonnes and a capacity of 7,500 litres and the Spirit Still, weighing three tonnes and with a smaller capacity of 4,500 litres will both play an integral part in determining the light character of spirit produced at Kingsbarns Distillery.

Kingsbarns Distillery Founder and Visitor Centre Manager Douglas Clement commented;
“Our distillery and visitor centre has been a long time in the making, six years infact. It’s only been in the past two years, thanks to a Scottish Government grant and the backing of the Wemyss Family, one of Scotland’s oldest and most established family businesses, that has turned this dream into a reality.

“Construction commenced Spring 2013 and today is hugely important in the development, with the final pieces of our distillery jigsaw, the copper pot stills, finally positioned in their new home”.

Distillery Manager, Peter Holroyd added;
“Now that we have reached the important date of our copper pot stills arrival, we are well on our way to the final goal of producing Kingsbarns unique, light, Lowland spirit”.

Kingsbarns Distillery and Visitor Centre will open its doors to the public 1 December 2014.

On the Nose (Neat); Initially sweet butterscotch with lemon and lime aromas. A subtle peat smoke edge develops and lingers with a hint of coffee.

Palate (Neat): white pepper, ripe banana, coconut and plum flavours which are complemented by a lingering tobacco edge.
On The Nose with water added: Cured bacon notes with hints of honey and toasted malt. Complimented by rhubarb, blueberry and lemon aromas.

Palate with water added: Charred wood with ripe banana, peach and orange flavours. A lingering hint of mint develops.

Body: Medium.

Finish: Medium in length, smooth with a touch of smoke.

Nose: Charred oak influence and malt. Slightly nutty with exotic fruits - pineapple and kiwi.

Body: Balanced.

Founded by Phil Brandon in 2010, there hadn’t been a legal distillery in central Arkansas in decades, Pre-prohibition was probably the last time legal distilling was carried out, that was until Phil Brandon lost his job.

The Rock Town Distillery was created with one mission. To make sure every possible element used to make Rock Town’s spirits came from Arkansas. From the soft, red winter wheat for the vodka and gin. To the charred, white-oak barrels that store the bourbon. Carefully crafting the vodka, gin, and bourbon in small batches. Heritage Whiskey Brands from Jim Beam

Completed another page on my whiskymerchants website: Jim Beam Heritage whiskey brands, These are the brands that Jim Beam inc have retained from when Fortune Brands purchased National Distillers Group in 1987.

These included Makers Mark, Old Crow, Old Gran-Dad Bourbon and Old Overholt a Rye Whiskey. which they have kept but have since disposed of Old Taylor which was sold to the Sazerac Companyin June 2009.

Old Taylor Bourbon was named after Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. (1830-1923). Taylor founded and developed several different distilleries throughout his career, the most successful being the O.F.C (aka George T Stagg). and Carlisle distilleries, the forerunners of today’s Buffalo Trace Distillery which is part of the Sazerac group so this brand has returned to its roots.
