So why would anyone need to connect to a web site using a French proxy? Well I’ll tell you, all across the internet there are web sites tailoring their content to specific countries. This is a concept called geotargeting, which in effect checks what country you’re connecting from then customizes what you see depending on your location.

It sounds quite beneficial, this geotargeting and in some instances it actually is, for instance when you visit Google you’ll be automatically directed to the local version of Google which will deliver you localised results. However in many more instances your location will be used to block yoru access to the site.

For instance, one of the most famous sites on the web, the BBC Iplayer is restricted if you try to access from a NOn-UK location, the big American media sites do the same restricting access to people outside the US for Hulu, NBC and ABC for instance. Just about every major media site restricts it’s content to those who reside in that particular country.

For French TV – need a French Proxy ?

You certainly do at least for the biggest sites, take for example the French Media site M6 Replay, the vast majority of their content will be blocked unless you connect from France, and have a French IP address. Of course this is the difficult part, proxies cost a lot to run especially streaming video down them so a free one is difficult to find particularly if you need it to be from a specific country.

Can you Find a Free French Proxy

In theory it is possible, but take it from me you’ll have to dedicate a large part of your life trying to find one. The problem is that the majority of free proxies are misconfigured or hacked servers which are usually only accessible for a few hours until they get overloaded or switched off. You can use programs like foxy proxy to find them, but it will be an ongoing task especially if you need a French proxy.

Any Other routes to a Proxy in France ?

You can configure a free program called TOR to route through French clients, which works ok as long as you don’t want to stream video as the clients are much too slow to produce a watchable stream.

The only other route is to pay a provider for access to a private French Proxy server. If you seriously want to watch French TV regularly this is the only real optioon. There are many companies who offer this service for UK and US sites but one or two that have French Proxy servers as well.

Have a look around there are a few providers, you need the connection either via a proxy or a VPN (Virtual private Network) and make sure they have a French server. Some of the online companies make you pay for access to each specific server, however there are a few companies who allow access to their entire range of servers including french proxies for a single subscription – the advantage is you can select which server you need for each site.

This year’s Academy Awards provided lots of surprises. Standing at the forefront of the nominations were two very powerful, contrasting films that have both received a lot of attention over the same broad issue: race. Both the movies Precious Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire (2009) and The Blind Side (2009) have received a lot of attention, both good and bad, on both sides of the fence for heavily playing the race card. At the end of the day, it seems to be a matter of personal opinion whether one or the other is the more offensive portrayal of African American life in modern America. Grown out of the controversy are many web pages, blogs, message boards, and movie review website threads. Surely both of these films are sure to see numbers pick up across the board, from purchases to satellite TV rentals. The question is, however, on which side of the argument do you lie?

Both pictures have been praised for their expression of emotional stories, with excellent HD cinematic artistry, but the real controversy lies within the films’ content. The film Precious Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire tells a sad story of abuse and hopelessness in the life of young Precious. In an African American, inner city community, the film does little to show hope and inspiration for changing the condition of those deeply touched by abuse and poverty. While the story may be an accurate depiction of the series of events in a person’s life, or at least events that could actually happen to a person, many criticize it for reading exactly like the average racist rich *white* citizen’s stereotypical view of black America…bringing the story back around to The Blind Side. Painting a very similar picture of the bleak life of a young black male, raised in squalor and homelessness, critics of the film’s racial overtones say that it’s outrageous to assume that a young African American man couldn’t possible rise to success without the touch of a rich white family.

At the end of the day, the issue may be what agenda each viewer places behind the movies he or she chooses to view. The average viewer doesn’t pick such a heavy movie as Precious when sitting down to watch satellite TV after a long day at work. For a pleasant watch, The Blind Side is far more palatable. However, The Blind Side is a singular occasion of when white, wealthy people do good in a world where people of every race do the wrong thing far too often, as is shown in Precious. Perhaps, the issue is that one film picks up where the other leaves off in a never ending cycle of which is less politically correct. In the end, it may be the society in which we live that is politically incorrect, and not the storytellers, the films or the filmmakers.

Regardless of the debate, catch all of this year’s top Oscar picks in high definition on satellite TV. Check out movies that are already available on demand, or see when the latest releases will be available to watch at home. Or, with the Olympic and awards season over, warm up by turning your attention fully to upcoming spring sports!

Movie nights are fun for all ages, but if you would like to be a part of something a little more organized, put together a screening! This is a great project to help worthy causes, or just to have fun. Here is how to set up the event:

Show Planning

What Ever Happened to Molly Ringwald?

Molly was huge when I was in high school even though her most popular movies at the time were a few years old. She was the redheaded role model for many young girls- not to mention a decent actress. I recall cutting my friend’s red hair at 15-years-old from a length that reached the bottom of her back and transformed it into Molly’s infamous bob. She was very satisfied with her new look though I can’t say the same for her mother. I became curious about sewing and wanted to make my own clothes after watching Molly make her own prom dress in Pretty in Pink. I soon found out that sewing was not my area of expertise.

Molly is pretty though not void of imperfections and provided young women with more attainable goals versus the anorexic, silicone role models of today. I’m sure I speak for many people when I say that the first time I knew of Molly was when I first watched the movie Sixteen Candles. This coming of age classic made her a star. We could relate to her character as a teenager with a typical wide range of emotions, attempting to become her own person in the midst of her unique family life. We felt the pain when her parents missed her 16th birthday and we laughed at the bizarre circumstances she was always falling into with her family and at school.

I must say that Pretty in Pink is my favorite movie starring Molly Ringwald. This was the very first movie I bought and, yes, it was on VHS! The prom was a tremendous deal in high school. We just had to have that perfect dress and the best date and we looked forward to the event since we were freshmen. We thought (back then, of course) that the worst thing that could ever happen to us would be something going wrong on prom night. Why do you think they make horror movies with young girls at risk on prom night?

Molly’s character encountered many obstacles along the way to finally getting to the prom along with the date of her dreams. She made her own prom dress because she didn’t have the money to by the lavish ones that so many of us were fortunate enough to have thanks to our parents. Most of us spent time with our mothers preparing for the huge event but Molly didn’t have a mother. She was also picked on at school. Her journey to prom success inspired many young girls and showed us the value of the many things that we took for granted every day.

It seems these two movies are what made me a fan of Molly Ringwald but her fame was short lived because I’ve seen very few decent movies of hers since. The most notable movies she has starred in are; The Pickup Artist, For Keeps, Stephen King’s The Stand, Malicious (Ringwald’s first nude scene), Teaching Mrs. Tingle and Not Another Teen Movie. I’m sure many people would agree that few of these, if any, were major hits.

I would like to see Molly Ringwald in a new movie that will bring her career back to life! One suggestion would be a sequel of sorts to Pretty in Pink. It would be great if she and Andrew McCarthy were married and had a teenage daughter who was about to have her own prom experience. Molly would be the mom she never had for her daughter and tell her about her experience back in the eighties. Her daughter would have her own share of ups and downs eventually leading to her ultimate prom night. Another suggestion would be to give her the lead role in a film where she comes to terms with the fact that she’s turning 40-years-old and her family forgets her birthday. She feels left out in the midst of married life, children and a thankless profession. She eventually learns that turning 40 is not the end of the world but can be a new beginning for the rest of her life.

So, Molly, we want you back. Give Drew Barrymore a call, she’s been making a few good hits and may have what it takes to bring you back to the big screen!

Remember when the old 3D movies from yesteryear? Cheap and cheesy effects but still a bit fun too as you get to wear those cool (dorky) red and blue 3D glasses to make the action come off screen and right into your face. Even though these were cool for it’s time, today is a different story.

With the huge success of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ in 3D the world has been a buzz waiting for this new 3D TV technology to enter our living rooms, don’t blink because it has arrived.

So what is the big deal, it is the same thing as the old 3D stuff right? Oh know it is not. Major changes include high definition 3D for one without the low grade looking graphics of years past, now it looks more real than life itself. The 3D glasses are different too, no more red and blue as they just look like a normal pair of sunglasses with all the 3D technology built into each lens with specific glasses made for 3D gaming, TV, etc.

Only a select few of 3D TV’s and home projectors have hit the market at this time or writing with the summer of 2010 to be the major launch of everything 3D. You will see upgraded video games, TV shows, movies made to match up with the new 3D TV’s and Blu-ray players being produced by all the major electronic companies. Can you imagine the intense fun of playing a shoot em up video game in 3D?! As you may have noticed there are plenty of movies in theaters right now that are viewable in a three dimensional platform thus awaiting their anticipated release on a 3D blu-ray disc for the purpose of enjoying it on your home entertainment system.

These new high definition televisions will be the thinnest ever coming in LED, LCD, DLP, and Plasma varieties all with 1080p respectively. This is just the tip of the iceberg as this new 3D TV technology will also include a more user friendly platform which Samsung has introduced as applications similar to Apple’s apps for their iPhone. You will be able to go online via the Internet using your new 3D TV and use these “apps” to make your viewing experience of games, TV, and movies just that more better and exiting all from your multi-use remote and from sitting on your couch. Syncing your computer directly to your TV will make this all possible.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it does!

After hearing about all the hype surrounding 4th ranked University of Kentucky freshman sensation guard John wall I decided to watch him and the wildcats take on the 12th ranked University of Connecticut Huskies on ESPN. The game was part of the Madison Garden SEC, Big East conference challenge and ended up being a better game than advertised.

As soon as the game started the Wildcats went into attack mode led by Wall, they were able to shut the Huskies down as the freshman took over and helped his team to a 12-0 led to start the game. Realizing his team was out of sync Huskies head coach Jim Calhoun called a timeout to stop the wildcat attack before the game got out of hand. During the timeout Calhoun got into the face of his star player Jerome Dyson, which proved to payoff as the Huskies, came storming back and within minutes they were leading the Wildcats 26-18.

During the Huskies comeback and into the beginning of the second half Kentucky’s Wall started to look more like a freshman as the Huskies were able to slow him down and force him to commit six turnovers. But as the clock ran down and the game was on the line Wall put on his Superman cape and took over. Not only did he slow down Dyson he none of the Huskies defenders could stop him as he scored 12 of the last 15 Wildcat points including the go ahead winning shot with .30 seconds left in the game.

There were times in the game where Wall looked like an average college player but the majority of the game he dominated against a very tough and physical Huskies team. After watching the game a got to see why almost everyone is talking about him being the number one pick in the NBA draft next year. He has all the tools to make a great a player and a future star in the NBA. Not only is he freakishly athletic he can shoot, get to the basket at any time, and is a very solid defensive player.

I know the season has just started and it’s a little too early to jump to conclusions about who the best player is in college basketball. But it’s hard not to say that Wall is not the leading candidate after the show he put on, and I am not even a Kentucky fan he is just that good.
