This Friday at 1pm Westwood will play Crisp Academy in the first game of the state baseball championship in a rematch to make history! (We were state runner up last year to Crisp.) After we graduate the seniors on Friday night, we'll return for the second game at 1pm on Saturday.

Cancel your plans and BE AT THE SCHOOL this Friday and Saturday! Bring your lawn chairs, wear orange and white, bring your spirit and get those bats cracking - the Cats want another State championship!!! GO CATS!!!! We want state!!!!

Senior Ride Around & Slide Show Changed to Monday

Our varsity baseball team is advancing to the next round of playoffs and will have to play at David Emanuel Academy Friday. Due to this, the slide show and ride around has been moved to Monday, May 21.

State championship girls tennis team

Congratulations to the tennis team. The girls won state team tennis and the boys were runner up.

Congratulations to our girls state track team who has won the state championship again!

Congratulations to the baseball team for winning the region championship. They will get a bye for the first round of state and will play in the second round.

Please call the school to place your order for the Fall Sports program now. Speak with Mrs. Rose or Mrs. Holly. This needs to be done so you can have photos of your children/ grandchildren in their sports uniforms on May 9th.

Why Give Blood?
Even with all the marvels of modern technology, there is no substitute for human blood. A critical number of voluntary donations are required each day to meet the needs of local hospital patients.
Directions and Notes :

Each National Honor Society Student must recruit two donors. We will have Westwood T-shirts again at this year's drive. Thank you to: Planters & Citizens Bank, Bank of Camilla, Pelham Banking Company, and Family Bank that are sponsoring the T-shirts for us this year! We appreciate being able to give a Tshirt and encouraging the donation of blood. Sign up slots are first come first serve.

Making an appointment is easy. Click on the link above or below. Once you get to the website enter your Donor ID number and Password (Date of Birth 00/00/0000). If you have used the online appointment system before your information will display for your approval. If you have not used our online system before you can fill out the form with some basic information that the blood center will need. Then click the "Continue and View Blood Drives" button. We will do Buddy pictures, Wednesday, May 2. Order forms will be sent home and all orders must be prepaid.

Applications for upcoming Gnat Days events are located in the offices.

We will have a school wide dress down day for Cross Country on Tuesday May 1st. Cost is $2.00

Pink "Bracelets for Brynlee" are available from Mrs. Carole or Mrs. Melissa for $2.00. The Camilla United Methodist Church will have a benefit concert for Brynlee Ethridge, Wednesday, April 25 at 7pm. Admission is free and an offering will be taken during the concernt.

Applications for the Southern Rivers Student Art Show are available in the offices. Deadline to etner is Friday, April 20. If your child has some artwork at home encourage them to enter.

Camp Invention will be coming to south Georgia. It is a week long program created for elementary students where students have a challenge and hands on science activities. Each day is from 9-3:30 pm for grades 1-6 and are being held in Leesburg-Lee County Elementary (June 11-15), Albany -Deerfield Windsor (June 18-22), Cairo - Southside Elementary (June 4-8), Valdosta - Valdosta State (June 4-8). You can register online at www.campinvention.org or call 800.968.4332. Application forms are available at the school.

Westwood JV Cheerleaders will host a Spring Fling Dance Friday, April 13. Dance times for the 4th & 5th grades will be 6:00 - 7:30. Dance times for the Middle School will be 8:00 - 10:00. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the door.

2012 Girls Basketball Team just before pep rally

Congratulations to our girls basketball team for a valiant effort in the State finals this past Saturday. We can't hide our pride - you gave it all you had and we are proud of you. They finished second in the state for the second year. We had a pep rally this past Thursday before they left, photos have been uploaded to this year's photo album.

Our boys won region and made it to the elite 8 round of the state tournament. Congratulations!

Donate! Send your gently used children's books, toys, working electronic games and DVD's to help supply the children's booth. Donation boxes are located around the school. Please send your nonperishable items to the elementary school office by Friday March 2nd.

Come to our Grandparent's Auction this Saturday! Make plans. Y-Club will be providing babysitting during the live auction. 4:30 Silent auction. Spaghetti supper is at 5:30 pm. Live auction starts at 7 pm.

This Wednesday is a dress down day as a fundraiser for Brynlee Ethridge, daughter of Lee and Blair Ethridge of Newton. Brynlee's brother is Braxton in K4 and his Dad, Lee graduated from Westwood. The dress down day is $2 but parents and families are encouraged to send in a donation to the school to help this family.

"Pray for Brynlee" shirts are available for $15 each. All proceeds go to the family. The colors are in pink or gray. Please send sizes and the money to home room teachers by Friday, March 2nd and please add this family to your prayer list at home and at church.

Registration for current families ends on Wednesday, February 29th. There is a late fee after this date. It is possible that some classes will fill up. First come, first serve. Please handle registration.

Winter sports assembly will be Tuesday March 6 at 10 am in the auditorium.

Remember the Grandparent's Auction on March 3. There will be donation boxes for DVD's and nice children's toys at the school.

Remember to bring in boxtops, soup labels, and ink cartridges to recycle. All of these earn money for the school.

We're excited about our Girls Basketball team making it to the final four. They play Friday, February 24 at 2:30 pm against Grace Christian to earn the right to compete on Saturday at noon against the winner of Westminster and Crisp Academy.

Remember that February registration for existing families is coming to a close. Some classes may fill up and if you get your application in late you will also have a late fee. Please register now to ensure your child's spot. The general public can register soon.

Westwood National Honor Society Holds Initiation

The Westwood National Honor society held its initiation of new members on January 31, 2012. Students are invited to apply who have an 85 overall average or higher and are then selected by the Faculty Council to ensure they exhibit Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and Service. Current members participate in the initiation and adopt a little sister or little brother in the class of initiates to serve as mentor.

The NHS blood drive will be on Friday, May 11 from 7:30 am until 3 pm in the auditorium. Remind those who are giving for you starting in March so they won't give in another drive (they have to wait 6 weeks before giving again.) We will have T-shirts again and are looking for sponsors. Please contact vdavis@westwoodschools.org if you'd like to have your company name on these shirts.

Community service is what we do at Westwood and there are many projects going on right now that need your support. Please join in.

Please send in your White Christmas assigned item by next Wednesday, December 14th.

Every year the school has several families in need that we work to help fill their pantry. This is a service project of our high school student government led by Jennifer Good. Please be generous and help these families. For those who wish to help who are grandparents and others, talk to Jennifer Good at 229-336-7992.

One Act Play

All costumes are due by Friday. Make sure all wigs are in gallon zip lock bags.

Elementary students who ordred grey westwood hoodies should pick up from the high school office as soon as possible.

The Westwood Y-Club collected 56 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child and collected $350 to send boxes. These were delivered to Union Grove Church (the pick up center) on November 17th. Lower middle and high school participated. Mrs. Carla's class submitted the largest number of boxes per homeroom so her 8th grade homeroom is the recipient of a pizza party. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause!

It is basketball season. Remember to come. Wear your orange and white and support our cats. Fans in the stands always make a difference. When our cheerleaders cheer, we need to hear your voices. Let's continue to show that Wildcat spirit at everything we do. It is part of who we are.

Mrs. Vicki's computer fundamentals class is designing Christmas cards in photoshop this year. Look for a selection to be mailed out from our board.
