LILAC FESTIVAL PARADE
Congratulations to the "Eagle" Marching Band, Color Guard, Dance Team and Cheerleaders for their outstanding performance in the 2012 Lilac Festival Parade, which was held on Saturday, May 19. Our students received the prestigious "Lilac Gold Standard" Award, given to those Bands who received a Superior Rating in at least 8 of the 11 categories. This is the third consecutive year that WVHS has received this award. Way to go, students!

FESTIVAL OF BANDS CONCERT
Our annual All-District Festival of Bands Concert will be held in the WVHS Main Events Gym on Wednesday, May 23, beginning at 7:00 PM. All three of the district's award-winning Marching Bands will be performing, as well as, each Band from WVHS, Centennial Middle School, and the district-wide Beginning Band. It should be a very entertaining evening that you won't want to miss.

CONCERT BAND CLASS HAS BEEN ADDED
A Concert Band class has been added to the curriculum for the 2012-2013 school year. This class will be a non-auditioned Band for students with less experience or for those who desire to switch musical instruments. This is great news and will help in improving the entire Band Program at West Valley High School. The Wind Ensemble will continue to meet during "O" Hour and the new class will meet during 4th Period. More details will be provided in the very near future.

The West Valley High School Marching Band has two staff openings for the 2012 Marching season:

CHANGE OF PLANS
Most of you have heard by now that Mr. Bosch ruptured his achilles tendon last weekend (playing volleyball)... his surgery is planned for this Friday, March 16. He will not be returning to CMS until after Spring Break. So, in order to keep things running smoothly with the CMS Band Program, I will be responsible for the upcoming festivals and competitions for the CMS Jazz Band and Intermediate and Advanced Bands, in addition to the WVHS Bands. I will be communicating on a regular basis with your students, so please ask them for any new information regarding these events.

Here is the calendar:

Monday, March 19 - Jazz Band Concert @ WVHS (7:00 PM) (CMS and WVHS Jazz Bands) - separate handout will be sent home tomorrow

Saturday, March 24 - Jazz NW @ Mead High School (CMS and WVHS Jazz Bands) - same handout

During the next two weeks, I'll be "floating" between WVHS and CMS to rehearse with your kids and prepare them for some great performances. Mr. Curtis (substitute) will be assisting me at both schools. Please have your student practice their music at home and be to class on time (esp. CMS Jazz Band). Monday March 5th

Band Auction and Dinner Tickets will be available for your student at zero hour. You are encouraged to sell as many Auction & Dinner Tickets as you can to friends and family that will come and support West Valley Band & Colorguard Fundraiser. Price is $20.00and includes admission to the Auction catered dinner by Luigi’s Italian Restaurant as successful Auction and Fundraiser for the members of the West Valley Band and Colorguard-it is all for our students. Seating is limited for Auction & Dinner so get your tickets early.

REMINDER: Please get your Auction Items to Diane Clinton or Shelley Cloy as soon as possible. There is a lot of time and effort involved into recording your items and registering into Auction Tables.

The Craft is Oct. 29th. We need help from parents on Fri. Oct. 28th to help tape off the gyms and to assist the crafters in bringing their items into the gyms. Normally the band students help but they will be performing at the half time for the Football game. We will take a break to watch this last and final performance. Also we need items for the Bake Sale - suggested items:

Fall type Breads (banana, zucchini,pumpkin etc.)
Pumpkin Rolls
Puppy Chow
Spice or Pumpkin anything
Pies (apple, pumpkin, berry, pecan, etc.)
Specialty Cakes (preferable homemade)
