Club Sub Committees – 2010-2011

The close season will see three sub committees carrying out vital work to prepare the Club on and off the field for the 2011 season with the stated aim of being in the best possible way to start next season even before this season has formally ended.

Committees looking after Facilities, Bar and Development have been formed – the Facilities SC will be looking after the next phase of our Pavilion building project as we aim to progress from the current facility to one that will project outwards and will offer a patio and seating area for home matches; this SC will also look after matters such as pitch covers and the work required to offer a first class playing surface.

The Bar SC will be in charge of all front of house matters relating to the bar such as staffing, stock control and opening and closing strategy.

The Development SC has a two fold mission statement – to deliver a Club Mark application for this award to be granted in 2011 and to deliver a comprehensive youth coaching package for young players aged 8-15 between January and March 2011.

Players Player Awards 2010 – A.W.Scott Trophy and Fullstone Cup

All those who have played for the Saturday sides this season are asked to consider who they wish to vote for as Players Player for the 2010 season; we have two such awards in this respect with the A.W.Scott Trophy going to the winner in the 1st XI and the Fullstone Cup going to the 2nd XI winner.

Please consider this matter very carefully as it is your chance to vote for the Player who you consider to have made the most impact on YOU during the course of the past season.

Chard Sunday XI 150 Wellington Sunday XI 151-4

Rob Moysey crowned his fine season with the ball by equalling an seventeen year old record for Wellington CC by claiming three wickets in the Sunday XI’s six wicket win at WEPL Bristol and Somerset Division side Chard last weekend to take his season’s combined wickets tally to 84 and thus levelled with Dave Luxton who took the same amount back in 1993 and with two games to go Moysey has every chance to break that record and establish a new standard.

This was just one of many positives to come out of the Red and Blacks second Sunday visit of the season to Chard and having gone for over 300 back in June they were keen to avoid a repeat of that and the opening burst from Adrian Lee and George Hooper saw that Chard did not prosper first up after they had chosen to bat first on winning the toss; Hooper produced a great yorker to see the back of Draper for just a single and Liam Kubicki steadied himself to take a good catch off of Lee to remove Hayes. Hooper had to leave the attack with a damaged shoulder and this may have ended his season sadly.

Sam Murdock bowled accurately once more and his medium fast seamers have been good value this season for all the sides he has performed for; Sam Baycock again bowled his slow left arm spin very well indeed and 3-29 in 8 overs was a fine analysis, the best wicket was that of Chard’s 1st XI skipper J.Scott who tried to smash Baycock back over his head with power, but the ball dipped under his bat and bowled him nick and crop.

From then on Rob Moysey with three wickets and Alex Troake with the last one of the innings saw that Chard were dismissed with over four overs remaining and the thoughts of that 300 run innings the home side had enjoyed back in June were banished.

Warren with 35 was their best offering with the bat.

Wellington had to bat steadily and with some note of caution in chasing 151 to win in 40 overs after a superb hot tea and several batsmen got in and then got out having given themselves a platform to work from – Rob Moysey enjoyed partnerships with James Bath, Aks Latifi, Scott Davey and Liam Kubicki as Wellington made it to 59-4 with Sam Murdock at the crease and this was to be the telling stand as the fifth wicket pair added an unbeaten 92 and saw Wellington home; Moysey batted through the innings for 66no and Murdock hit a fantastic 37no as they dominated the Chard attack and won with a few overs to spare and by six wickets.

Another good win for the side and they have two away games left to end the season with – North Newton this Sunday and Langport the following Sunday.

Wellington Sunday XI 219-3 North Petherton Sunday XI 146

Wellington Sunday XI clinched promotion to Division A of the Taunton and District Sunday League for next season with this 73 run full points win at North Petherton last Saturday and with it secured runners-up spot with one game still to play.

This match was due to have been played back in July, but due to the Wellington Under 15s run to the National stages of the ECB cup for their age group it was postponed and re-scheduled for after the end of the regular season and on a green, but hard track Wellington were put into bat and saw a most solid start to their innings come about from Michael Gill and Tom Baycock who added 73 for the first wicket – Gill played a fine hand that totalled 98 and he was just short of a ton when he was out caught and Baycock, who made 16, was a fine foil for the free-flowing South African.

For North Petherton off spinner Bunce has bowled well in all four games this season between the two sides – two Somerset League Division One and two Sunday League Division B matches – and his burst of 2-14 in seven overs was a fine effort and he was on a hat-trick, but that was about as good as it got for North Petherton as Gill continued to plunder at will all round the park and with Scott Davey who made a Wellington best of 45no he added 100 for the third wicket before going on the stroke of a ton.

Davey played a great hand and was just denied a maiden fifty by the overs running out, but he and Neil Hendy with 30no saw that Wellington got to the 200 mark and past it and so collected full batting points with 219-3 at tea been the final total for the Red and Blacks.

North Petherton were very slow out of the blocks and this cautious tactic saw their chances of overhauling the 220 needed become very slim indeed as Everett – despite making 44 – took an age to make this total; Jake Nichol took the first two wickets to fall as he took 2-7 in 7 overs and let little go in a fine spell and George Hooper complimented at the other end with 0-7 in 4 overs, but the going was slow and Wellington were having to work very hard for the wickets.

Sam Murdock with 2-30 in 7 overs delivered in two bursts got a much needed breakthrough for Wellington and doubled his tally later on.

Spin in the form of Sam Baycock with his slow left armers and Rob Moysey’s wrist spin was also pivotal in Wellington removing the stubborn North Petherton line up as the Red and Blacks chipped away to claim a full allocation of 25 points eventually and the job was done by Tom Baycock and Scott Davey with three wickets between them and in the last over when Perkins was bowled by Davey a cheer went up for a job well done and a fifth win in seven matches and promotion along with divisional champions Taunton St Andrews.

Wellington have one game left to play in the League and they travel to North Newton on Sunday 12th September for a match that starts at 1.30pm; depart from Courtland Road Car Park at 12.15pm please and notification of selection will be made via Rob Moysey and David Derrick by Thursday.
