One tool that was in this book that did catch my eye was Adspurt. This make little pop up windows based on words you select. So for instance if I type “godaddy.com” I could have an adspur display pop up text that says “Get a .com domain name for $7.49 using the coupon code cooler7” (which works by the way).

AdSpurt will present two kinds of auto generated links on your site.

Either double-underlined which displays a hover ad, or single-underlined which just looks like a normal link out.

One of the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) aspects of AdSpurt is that these links are generated “on the fly” by javascript in the visitors browser.  This means that you can create links to other sites by keyword without diminishing the ranking of your own site.

To a search engine, it just looks like a page of on-topic and relevant text.  Only your visitors see the links in their browser.

AdSpurt has a set of built in Flash driven stats which show you how well your ads are performing.  You can clear these stats globally or by product ad.

In addition, your AdSpurt installation will send you an email when certain events occur by ad.  The first is the number of displays, and the second is the number of clicks.

It combine a help desk ticketing system where people can check on the status of their ticket. It also has very flexible administration options Give different people password protected access to different categories and different levels of your help desk. You decide who can read and respond to which help tickets. You decide who can change system configurations. You decide which drop-down “One-Touch Responses” each admin can use or edit. You decide which admins can add template responses to which category, who can add to your FAQ, etc.

A single click will add any support ticket to the knowledge base as a Frequently Asked Question. As soon as you notice a question is coming in a lot over a short period of time, a single click will make it instantly available for all your customers. This is pretty powerful.

If you want to use the system for multiple products, you can have multiple signatures in the system. Each ticket can be assigned to a product or service, as well as the obvious different levels of priority.

If you are tired of filling up your email, you can use a desktop alert system to alert you when a new ticket has been created.

While I’ve never used it, (I use Ticket Desk Pro which was $67 – my review) I do like the feature of being able to add a question to the FAQ (and a pretty good search feature in the FAQ) with a few clicks.

Well, I recently switched from my live chat client, to a widget for Google talk. The interesting thing? In the past two weeks I’ve had more chats than I have in the previous two years combined. The only thing difference is it says “chat with Dave Jackson” instead of “Live chat.” It’s more personal. This is not the Google Voice (which is a telephone number) this is Google Talk (a chat client).

Now I can’t transfer anyone to another user, but being a one man company I don’t need to. I can have my chats saved into my gmail account so I now have a built in history feature.

The other bonus is its free. Go figure.

This is very cool as a member could sign up for a membership, get access to your entire blog, read it, and then unsubscribe.

It looks very simple as you simply add some plus signs (more plus signs for a higher level of membership type (bronze, silver, gold, and platinum) and the plugin protects that information. This way you can have a tease of the visitor and then when they go to read the rest, they are prompted to subscribe.

Now I know you may think, does this stop Google from seeing my content? My seo will go down. Well the really cool thing is there is an option that allows a visitor one free click through. So a human could read one article (and this may prompt them to subscribe even more). If you’re Google, your spiders can come through and index the content so your SEO efforts are in place.

It integrates with everything (more or less), Paypal, 2checkout, ejunkie, idevaffiliate, rapid action profits, and  aweber. It has built in tools to help you track if anyone is giving away your premium content.

I personally haven’t used this system, but if it does everything it says it does it looks like a great value. Pricing starts at FREE, and go all the way up to $295 for unlimited domains with the typical purchasing (my guess) is the “Professional” at $149.

I just heard about Smashwords.com this is a great service for those who want to publish (free or not) an ebook.  You create an ebook in an RTF format (Rich Text) and upload it into their system and the following systems are created.

How to publish on Smashwords: Smashwords allows an author to upload a single Microsoft Word or .RTF file that we then automatically convert into multiple DRM-free ebook formats. Prior to publishing, you need to read their guide to make sure you have the proper formatting. The service is free and you earn 85% of the sale (with the other 15% going to smashwords.com)

There are other tools such as guides on promoting your book and more. I will definitely be looking into this. The one feature I didn’t see was a way to have the purchase happen without sending them to the smahswords website.  For more information go to www.smashwords.com

While I have not used the demo (I purchased the software, I did notice that it changes the file name when uploading audio. I did make it incredibly easy, but if you are using it to podcast (and for me I like to use a particular naming convention for my files) I found this annoying.

You SHOULD use YouTube to promote your business. It’s HUGE. There are TONS of people there. Every video you put at YouTube should have your URL featured in it to drive traffic back to your site. So please don’t think I’m saying you should not use YouTube.

The solution to the start/stop video

You can host your video at Amazon S3 and host them for next nothing (pricing), but the problem is getting them loaded into Amazon S3. In the past we’ve mentioned the Firefox plugin the “S3 organizer.” However, it doesn’t make it super easy to get these files to show up on your website. Now there is with these two tools.

EZS3 is a subscription tool for $20 a month that allows you to build custom players for video, audio, flash, pdfs, etc and easily manage all your files at amazon. The really cool feature that I like is EZS3 shows you how many times a video has been played. So you get some stats and trends, etc. Very cool.For the record I have not used this product. There is a 14 day trial for a buck.

I Just Saved You 100 Bucks

If you are not a fan of subscription services, check the Mike Stewart “The Internet Audio Guy” and his Amazon S3 Media Player.  This has many of the features of EZS3, it also can have redirects at the end of the video (great for marketing). The price of the S3 Media Player is $247 and is bundled with Mike’s royalty free music. I think this is a dumb business model. Not everyone using Amazon S3 needs royalty free music. However, if you sign up for his “Two Buck Themes“ website FIRST, you can access a link that allows you to buy the Amazon Media player for one hundred bucks off the regular price ($147). So you would spend $157 (10 for the membership site, and 147 on the Amazon S3 player). Then you could cancel your subscription.

Today I have a free tool called Viral Tweet. It is a form you can add to your website that allows people to retweat directly from your website. It also can have people that use this form automatically become a follower of yours. There is a free version. However the free version will be branded with a link back to viraltweets.com and it won’t have the ability to “auto follow” you. For those features you have to spend $49. At this point you can try it for free.

I have been using Carbonite for a while. I love the service except it wouldn’t backup my USB drive that is connected to my computer. It would back up my C, and D drives (both are internal). Along comes mozy for the same price, and low and behold it will back up all my disk drives (internal and in my case – external).

My biggest complaint about Mozy is that when I want to change my configuration it takes close to 3 minutes to bring up the screen (it connects to their website, and other tasks). The tool I am turning on and off is the bandwidth throttle. I love that I can have it set to go wild from 2 am to 7 am, and the rest of the time chill out so it doesn’t effect my computer while I’m using it. It’s not a huge deal, and I won’t be using that once my system is done backing up.

Mozy is offering a 2 GB backup for free.

Artisteer Now Allows Customized Joomla Templates and Drupal themes

In addition to allowing you to customize Wordpress themes, you can now create Joomla Templates and Drupal Themes in the latest release of Artisteer. The home version is just for Wordpress themes (its 50 bucks) and the Standard edition is $129. There is a free demo from Artisteer. Make Your Wordpress Site A Membership Site with No Monthly Fees

I found a plugin for Wordpress that allows you to turn your blog into a memberhsip site with multiple lelvels, secure RSS feeds, integrated shopping cart, and much more. It’s called Wordpress Wishlist Member. While there are lots of powerful plugins, it seems the more powerful the plugin, the weaker the documentation. In this case there are 27 videos to walk you through all the great features. I mentioned this service a few episodes back, and after using a system that tracked my time, and then another system to do billing, I got tired of the hassle. I was always behind on my billing as it took too much time.

I now can login to my website, make a few clicks and generate and invoice for a client that automatically checks the times that have not been billed, and puts them into the invoice for this customer. It takes less than a minute. Then I email to my customer. They go to my website, login, and pay my invoice. It them to paypal, they pay the invoice. It updates freshbooks, and sends me an email to alert me I’ve been received a payment. I’m not involved at all.

If my customer does not pay the bill in a time that I set up, it emails them and lets them know they are late. I can set so many billing options. I can set up reoccurring payments, I can bill by the hour, by the task, by the project, and more.  IT’s very flexible, and yet not so robust that it creates a giant learning curve.

I have a client of mine that is site impaired. He said it was “easy peasy.” So that was a nice bonus as well. My billing went from taking an hour or so to minutes.  This pays for the monthly fee and then some. I love this system. There is even a free version if you want to kick the tires. Floating Action Button

You can use this button to increase email list subscriptions, for me I can see using it to increase RSS subscriptions. It’s very slick, it gives you great insight into what people are doing and paying for their google campaigns, and then has quick access to locating new key words.  The catch is when you buy this great script for next to nothing they will try to upsell you. Note if you say no to the first “one time only” option, you get another “one time only” option to upgrade for half price. That has nothing to do with the original price of Floating Action Script which is only $27.

PPC Web Spy Free Keyword Tool

This is a great free keyworld tool, as well as a great tool to see what your competitors keywords are, and how much they are paying, and where they are ranking. Best of all it’s free. Once again, you are going to be asked to upgrade. Just ignore it if you don’t want the extra features (which consists of a longer keyword list).  Check it out at ppcwebspy.com

This website is funny just for the videos of the guy in the shower with his monkey. What this software does it is designed to help you write reviews of products, you input your affilaite, click a few buttons as to what you felt about the review, and it pops out a review to past on your website, blog, article site, etc. Push button marketer comes with videos, blueprints and other marketing tools, but it appears to be a super maxed out macro software package that might be able to be used for more than its original purpose.

Appointment Plus Software

I’ve spoken about appointment software in the past. This one has Boo-Koo features. Everything from email alerts, to flexible scheduling, to event management including the number of attendees, you can have multiple locations, employees, exporting items to outlook, point of sale, and a secure way for people to pay for appointments online, it goes on and on. The interesting thing is its only $39 a month (there is a free trial available). While this is more expensive than other software titles I’ve spoken about in the past, it is by far the most feature rich of all that I’ve previously mentioned.

Message Rover

If you have a company that has people out in the field, and yet utilizes one central reception area, you may want to look into Message Rover. When someone calls, the receptionist uses this online system to instantly send a text message and/or email to the person in the field. The first 25 messages are free, and then its only $10 a month for each 100 messages.

Virtual Assistant Manager

You’ve probably heard about Rent a Coder, and all sorts of other sites that allow you to hire a virtual assistant (many times from places such as India). One of the biggest problems is the time difference and keeping people on the same page. Virtual Assistant Manager also a place for you to enter your tasks, that then automaitcally alerts the Virtual Assistant, who then performs their work and updates the status of the task.  Any communication between you and the assistant is saved in the system (and not list in your gmail). You can track time logged, and export that to Excel. A free trial is available and pricing is $39 a month.

While you can always upload video to You Tube and the put that video on your website, some people something that has a better quality, and they also need something for editing. This is where Easy Web Video comes into play.  For $97 it allows you to add transition effects, background music, add still images, add text, you can fade in and out, and remove unwanted parts of your video. When you’re done there are numerous templates to choose from and you can pick only the  buttons you want to appear. You can even have links off of the video. Cool Forums For Wordpress

I have not done much with them yet, but I have install the ismple press forum on this website. This ties the forums into your worpdress installation and vice versa. The great thing is all the forum adminstration is handled inside your wordpress installation. Alinks is a free tool that will take words in your Wordpress Installation, and link it a website. I had mentioned in a previous show I had mentioned Affiliate Elite which was $47. Nick points out that Alinks is free, but it doesn’t cloak the link like Affiliate Elite.

However if you use the Gocodes plugin with wordpress you get the automatic linking, and cloaking for free (you do not get the link stats like you do in Affiliate Elite ). (Note as of this publishing date, the alinks website is down. I’m hoping this is temporary).

Instant Slide Up

I can’t decide if I like this tool or not.  On one hand it really gets your attention, and on the other hand it takes up alot of space at the bottom of the screen (although it doesn’t stop the visitor from seeing anything). You can use it to promote your email list, or specials going on with your products. It’s $67 bucks, and I could see this making a definite boost to your site.

What is Squidoo?

It’s a website that gets HUGE amounts of traffic. The idea is you get traffic from Google to your squidoo website, and then link to your website. So the Google love flows from squidoo to your website. I went to learn about it, but I didn’t want the learning curve.  I found a cheap ebook called Squido Profits for 7 bucks. If you want someone to build your lens there is a service that will do it for $249

FaceBook – Are You The Caboose?

Much like Squidoo, I  signed up for Facebook many moons ago and did nothing with it. I’m ready now with some time off in the future to get into the game. There is a $47 ebook that will help you get the most out of facebook, and use their advertising system to make some income.

Wordpress Cloning Tool

The Wall Street journal has now started publishing using Wordpress. It’s a very powerful, and easy tool to use. You could set up a wordpress site template and then when a customer wants a site, just clone it and tweak it to suit their needs. That would take about 90 minutes in the past, but not any more I found a Wordress Cloning tool that will copy everything from the original installation into a new installation. This is a HUGE time save. While it carries a price tag of $97, the time it saves will more than pay for it.

Corner Stay Ads are great looking graphics that will stay in any of the corners of your website. They have attractive people that are eye catching. One girl had her hands on her face with the caption “Wow” when you put your mouse over her, a you tube video popped out. How cool is that?

You can have ANYTHING in that pop out window (this is not a pop up, its like a great hover ad). It’s got a very easy installation, and comes with all sorts of bonuses (more on that later). In the end you have great graphics, and a flexible tool to increase conversions, build your list, give away an ebook, whatever you are doing with your website. The cost is only $37

So I thought, “What’s the catch? Here it is. This is a great flexible tool, but what it turns out to be is a lead product to try and get you to sign up for their membership site (which you don’t have to, and in my case I didn’t). So it’s great marketing, you almost give away your product to entice people to sign up for a 4 minute money membership site. You can read the free report about their system.

This tool allows you to get away from your email, and in the event that there is an emergency people can use a special contact form that then send you an SMS message to your phone. If you are into affiliate marketing this may be something that can give you more hours in the day. This tool is a software that is run from your computer (not web based) where you load all your login information into affiliate networks in one place. You can then get a reading of your income from one place, it remembers your login and passwords, it even tracks your ad words, and gives you a view of the big picture. That’s the good news. Create Your Own Magazine

I hesitated to include this as its not really a web tool, but it is a tool webmasters could use for promotion. It’s called Mag Cloud (http://magcloud.com). You can have your own magazine printed for .20 a page and then sell it. For example, a 20-page magazine would be four bucks plus shipping. And you can make money! You set your issue price and all proceeds above the base price go to you. Shipping is a flat $1.40/copy (USPS first class mail) for quantities 1-9, or a flat $13 for quantities from 10-100 (per box of 10-100). You basically submit your PDF document and they turn it into a magazine and handle the shipping. It’s an interesting concept for those looking to promote their websites offline. There is no minimum order.

WP Remix – CMS Wordpress Package.

WP Remix is a “remix” of wordpress which means they customized it with some added features. It claims that
