Busy Birthday Month

May is always busy for Cowboy and me. We both have May birthdays. There is Mother’s Day followed by our anniversary. Father’s Day comes in June so we have lots of events in a small time frame. A few years ago we started having one family dinner to celebrate all of these events and it has been very successful and I am sure all our kids love just meeting for one family event!

We all met last evening for a wonderful Mexican food dinner complete with red velvet cake. Perfect evening with all our family. The cousins had so much fun together. I loved watching them laugh and giggle all evening. Joyful time to watch them…

As always, our family was way to good to us. I came home with a beautiful fern and bird feeder for our patio. Pretty new candle to go by my tub. Beautiful orchid plant to pretty up the den. A precious travel bag along with a cover for my Kindle. Note pad and precious kitchen towel with a boot for farm kitchen.

The farm house will have some pretty new things!

This darling Cowgirl Book has most of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame greats in it. Have not read it, but next rainy day I plan on reading it cover to cover. It is going to look great on the coffee table!

This donkey/mule plate was a big hit and going to pretty up the farmhouse!

My kids know me so well and are so very generous with their mom and dad. We are the luckiest parents to have sons which grew up to be such wonderful sons, husbands and dads. We were blessed with special daughter-in-laws that love us and gave us all our wonderful kiddos… Life really is good!

Food For My Soul

I spent the last year putting most of my energy into recovering from my barn accident last April. I am finally doing really well. Some days I still have a limp, but I am trying hard to walk without one. I am not totally “there” yet, but I think each month is bringing me to my desired goal. The one thing I missed most this last year was a “girls trip”. I spent days and days dreaming about going away with friends. This week I finally got to take a short two day trip with friends. I feel like a brand new person. This little trip definitely did the trick and I am again filled with joy and energy.

Our road trip provided us with beautiful wildflowers along the way. That alone filled me with happiness. I love my wildflowers. These Indian Blankets were scattered along the way and made our drive totally enjoyable.

We spent the first day shopping. I found this fun pop maker. Will let you know how it works. It is simple and was very inexpensive so think it will be fun. I know the kiddos will be glad I purchased it!

Our hotel had beautiful scenery. Woke up to this gorgeous view. Sat on the patio and watched birds for an hour. So warm, quiet and relaxing.

The weather was perfect for catching a few sun rays. The pool was too cold to swim, but we sat by the hot tub which was plenty warm and large enough to at least enjoy some water fun!

We enjoyed our pool time with a margarita and queso/chips! Perfect…

It is amazing how a short trip with friends can give you such a boost. You just cannot under estimate the value of a girls road trip to feed your soul…

Remembering Sundance of the Desert

You have read and seen pictures of Sundance of the Desert on this blog. Sundance was adopted from the Golden Retriever Rescue in New Mexico in his golden years. My friend made him her forever friend. Sundance has been in bad health since before Christmas, but he was still able to enjoy life and his “people”. Now, Sundance is roaming beautiful fields of green grass and flowers with friends. His forever friend is missing him and holding him close to her heart.

Here is a little bit of happy to help you start your week. Love these little wildflowers and their pretty splash of color.

They are Lanceleaf Coreopsis. We call them Tickseed. They are very common and grow in all states except for eight. Even on drought years, we can usually count on Tickseed to bloom.

We Have Wildflowers!

We finally have a few wildflowers which makes me “Over the Moon” happy! In our area, the wildflowers are just beginning to pop up. We had a brutally dry year combined with a very mild winter and a late cool spell. I am not sure we will have an abundance of flowers, but you just never know. We are supposed to get showers tonight and that just might force more wildflowers into blooming.

This week I was able to capture a few wildflowers which made me smile all day! Hope they put a smile on your face also…

Found our first little patch of Bluebonnets at the farm!

One of my favorites is the Purple Verbena which grows here and there at farm if I look really hard.

We do not have any Prairie Paintbrush on our farm, but I found a few on the side of the road.

Farmhouse

Our farmhouse is a simple rock house built in the 1800s. It is small and there is not one fancy thing about it.Think Little House on the Prairie simple. We love it that way. Have never desired to make it something it was not. Being small simply means I do not have to take lots of time cleaning it. Cowboy and my days are basically spent outside which is how it should be. A few years ago I did make our front porch a sitting room off of the bedroom. Never have really fixed it like I wanted.

Recently I found this chair and ordered two of them in chocolate brown. Got them at discount price and they were so cheap! I loved the retro look. The two of them will be placed on a cream and brown striped rug. The two chairs will have a matching ottoman that has a little stool inside of it. I found two brown and cream ikat pillows that will complete the look.

So… if you were wondering what I am doing today; you will know I am playing “house” and having so much fun doing it! They will be my little bit of “blast from the past!”

Hello To Goose

Son #1 and family have their first family dog. Welcome to Goose who is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. He is the cutest thing ever; although I am glad I am not the one having to house train him!

We had never really seen a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon before. He immediately won all of our hearts. You gotta love this face!

Roxy Is Growing

Son #2 and family adopted Roxy before Christmas. She is a really great cat and has made a wonderful pet for the entire family.

Heart Cactus

I love anything hearts and the farm has way more cactus than we need.

Son #1 and his family had a farm campout a few weeks ago and they found a pretty heart cactus on their nature hike.

Next search for hearts at the farm- rocks. We have plenty and bet we can find one!
