There aren’t any major changes and only a bug fix is worth mentioning: sometimes the application would segfault on exit, other times the app would continue to run in the background even though it was closed, using 100% cpu - this should now be fixed.

Also, starting today, FBMessenger is also available for Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander.

Both JDK versions have been updated in the WebUpd8 Java PPA.

Oracle JDK 7u21 changes:

Blacklisted Jars and Certificates: Oracle now manages a certificate and jar blacklist repository. This data is updated on client computers daily on the first execution of a Java applet or web start application

Changes to Java Control Panel’s Security Settings: In this release, low and custom settings are removed from the Java Control Panel(JCP)’s Security Slider

Changes to Security Dialogs: As of JDK 7u21, JavaScript code that calls code within a privileged applet is treated as mixed code and warning dialogs are raised if the signed JAR files are not tagged with the Trusted-Library attribute

Changes to RMI: From this release, the RMI property java.rmi.server.useCodebaseOnly is set to true by default. In previous releases the default value was false

Server JRE: A new Server JRE package, with tools commonly required for server deployments but without the Java plug-in, auto-update or installer found in the regular JRE package, is available starting from this release

Fixes for security vulnerabilities

Oracle JDK 6u45 changes:

Changes to RMI: From this release, the RMI property java.rmi.server.useCodebaseOnly is set to true by default. In previous releases the default value was false.

Fixes for security vulnerabilities

Package info:

Package names: “oracle-java7-installer”, “oracle-java6-installer”

Ubuntu version(s): 13.04, 12.10, 12.04, 11.10 and 10.04

Even though Oracle has said that Java 6 will no longer be updated, they’ve also released Java 6 Update 43 (JDK 6u43) which, just like JDK7, comes with important security fixes.

With this release, the PPA package code has been updated with a patch from Eugene San for better code structure. Also, Launchpad doesn’t allow building packages for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat any more, so there will be no more updates for it.

Reminder: The Oracle license no longer allows Java distribution, so the packages in our PPA don’t contain any actual Java code. Instead, the packages use a script (like the one used for flashplugin-installer) that automatically downloads Java and does everything required to set it up, automatically.

Package info:

Package names: “oracle-java7-installer”, “oracle-java6-installer”

Ubuntu version(s): 13.04, 12.10, 12.04, 11.10, 11.04, and 10.04

Added 48×48 hicolor panel icons to accommodate Gnome Shell 3.6.

Swapped some icons in the icon chooser popup menu to improve cross icon theme compatibility.

Made some changes to basically support gateway networks (fixes bug #1098755).

When (re)starting Hamachi, output from the init script is not being relied on anymore.

When Hamachi is busy, commands will now be run again a short moment later.

Join requests for networks that requires manual approval are now sent immediately without confirmation.

Improved many error and confirmation dialogs.

Other minor fixes, improvements and optimizations.

Package info:

Description: Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private network (VPN) application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases); in other words, it establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network. Haguichi provides a graphical frontend for Hamachi on Linux that integrates smoothly into your GNOME desktop.

Package names: “haguichi”, “haguichi-appindicator”

This is a bug-fix release and no new features have been added.

Bug fixes:

display notification when the “Update release name in working PPAs” and “Re-enable working PPAs after Ubuntu upgrade” are started so the user knows it will take a while until they are completed

add policykit-1 dependency - fixes LP: #1125240

better way to determine currently logged in username and home directory

fix PPAs backup path defaulting to ~/.root instead of user home directory

lots of notification fixes: fix search notification not being displayed when the search item contains spaces, display notification before launching the Manage PPAs dialog because it may take a while before it’s displayed, fix notifications being displayed before ppa-upgrade ran (update release name in working ppas, etc), etc.

more

Package info:

Description: Y PPA Manager is a tool for easily managing Launchpad PPAs that uses YAD for a graphical user interface. It can search for packages in all Launchpad PPAs, display their versions, add, remove or purge PPAs, list packages in your PPAs, backup PPAs, remove duplicate PPAs and more.

Package name: “y-ppa-manager”

The new version should support the latest Android 4.2.2.

We also build Raring packages in our PPA because we’ve modified Android Tools to also install 51-android.rules.

This update brings compatibility with more devices:

      + Philips GoGear Ariaz/97
+ Some Acer’s ICONIA tablets.
+ Some Archos’ stuff.
+ Nokia Lumia 920
+ Fujitsu’s F903iX HIGH-SPEED and STYLISTIC M532.
+ Sony Tablet P1 (and some more from Sony).
+ Motorola XT890
+ Google stuff of course.
+ Some Asus’ Eeepad variants.
+ Huawei U8815.
+ ZTE Blade 3.
+ HTC EVO models and some else.
+ Amazon Kindles.
+ Intel Xolo 900.
+ Various unbranded stuff.

This will affect both go-mtpfs from the same PPA or the new GVFS with MTP support from the
ppa:langdalepl/gvfs-mtp PPA. However, please note that if you've added the

ppa:langdalepl/gvfs-mtp PPA, Go-mtpfs will stop working!

Package details:

Package info: Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) library

Here are the changes:

  * GTK3: Some bug fixes and some changes to the treeview list.
* GTK3: Nemo style added.
* GTK2: Fixes for xfce-panel. (May behave a bit inconsistent with some applets.)
* XFWM4: Left and right border now 2px in size because of a xorg or driver bug that made them invisible.
* GTK3/Mutter: Some minor bug fixes.

Package info:

Description: Zukitwo is one of the most popular GTK3 themes

Package name(s): “zukitwo-theme”

Ubuntu versions: 13.04, 12.10 (there are also packages for older Ubuntu versions, but it’s an older Zukitwo version)

Fix Wavpack plugin alerts on missing .wvc files for lossless wavpack files

Fix compiling Audacious against against libcdio-0.90

Handle empty lines in m3u parser

AOSD plug-in out-of-bounds array access with old Audacious config values

Fix nasty crash / Memory corruption introduced with Audacious 3.3.3

Fix “No such file or directory” dialog makes it difficult to remove missing files from the playlist

With this release, I’ve also uploaded Ubuntu Raring builds because the audacious-plugins package in Ubuntu 13.04 is currently built without ffaudio support so using it, you won’t be able to play wma or wav files. Playing these files does work using the packages in our PPA.

Package info:

Description: Audacious is a featureful, lightweight music player. It looks a lot like Winamp 2.x (and the playlist, song adding functions and so on, are similar to Winamp) but it also comes with a GTK3 interface.

Package name: “audacious”

Ubuntu versions: 13.04, 12.10, 12.04

That means that you can now copy the Java archive into /var/cache/oracle-jdk7-installer (replace jdk7 with jdk6 or jdk8 for Java 6 or 8) and install it without an Internet connection, useful for installing Oracle Java on multiple machines or on machines not connected to the Internet.
