Atlas Sound (a.k.a.) Bradford Cox put up a virtual 7″ of two new songs on his blog. The virtual 7″ features “Doctor” which is a Five Discs Cover, and a new Atlas Sound song called “The Screens”

They are both highly enjoyable tracks that should help me soundtrack my boring Wednesday night. I am procrastinating on work, and listening to lazy/chill Atlas Sound songs like “The Screens” doesn’t help the process! The Fave Discs Cover is pretty upbeat. Sounds like it could have been a pretty retro track. Turns out that is because they are a doo-wop group from the 50’s. Makes sense now!

Atlas Sound have had a pretty good 2009. Cool releases like this, plus a fantastic album like Logos will make for a good year. Especially when you write amazing songs like “Shelia“.

How cool is that?

“Sunday Bloody Sunday” is one of my favorite songs of all time, it is practically a perfect song. Never thought I would see Jay-Z on the same stage as U2. Pretty cool huh!

This is a great performance by U2, they still give it there all! How many times do you think they have played this song live? It is so amazing to see them play with so much energy, even though they have been playing this song for over 20 years.

The clip starts with 20 seconds of ambient African tribal noises, and then kicks into what should be the familar sounds of “White Sky”. I am literally dying to hear the recorded version of “White Sky” for almost 2 years now. I was at their bowery ballroom cd release show when they played the song for the first time ever back in January 2008.

The video has only a few seconds of the song, but it is enough to make any fan antsy to hear the rest. The song sounds great though, they have not changed it much since I first saw it. There are also some images of the band playing an intimate gig in some dudes basement. I would like Thankfully they didn’t keep that Jimmy Fallon version.

I got a fresh track for you guys, straight from my inbox. It is called “O.T.T.A.P” by a band called Styrofoam Ones.

The song is a pretty cool dance rock song that should appeal to a lot of people. I can totally see these guys get remixed to death by the hypem crowd, and getting jizzed all over by the dance/electro blogs.

They kinda remind me of The Whip, another dance/rock band that I really enjoy.

“O.T.T.A.P” is off their self titled EP which you can buy on itunes. Go do that!

Hot Chip are back with a new album in 2010, only adding to the immense list of new releases from top notch bands. The album is called One Life Stand, and it is due on Februrary 8th.

The first track from the album is called “Take It In” and what a nice track it is.

It is not what I expected, but totally in a good way. I was expecting something epic like “Over & Over” or “Ready For The Floor” It isn’t quite that type of song, but it still shines.

While “Take It In” has some initial crunch, it overall lacks the powerful punch of their big anthems. However, with that said, it certainly has a lot of depth to it. The rich melody that soaks the chorus is one of Hot Chip’s most beautiful moments yet. The vocals are beyond blissful, making this song sound delicate. Thats right, delicate!

Hot Chip use both of their weapons in “Take It In”. The vocals come together softly (almost like “And I Was A Boy From School”) while maintaining the ability to craft slick electronic beats that sounds trademark to Hot Chip.

I love it. This song can only get better with more listens.

Them Crooked Vultures epic debut album is streaming online for all to finally hear! I have only been able to run through the album once.

Does it live up to the hype? Was there even hype? Of course there was! When you have a band consisting of Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones, people are going to be paying attention!

One song that really stood out to me is the dirty/gritty opener “No One Loves Me & Neither Do I. The song is a perfect album opener, developing the atmosphere of the album. It sounds very garage rock, but also bluesy. The Led Zeppelin influence from Mr. Jones is pretty evident, but the dirty QOTSA guitar sound from Josh is right there as well!

They rock out on this track, and it sets the tone for the rest of the album perfectly.

Ear Farm promises that all of the proceeds from this project will go directly to the Association to Benefit Children. This charity is an outstanding New York-based service that makes it their duty to break the cycles of abuse, neglect, sickness and homelessness among disadvantaged children and their families.

The album is called Do you EAR what I EAR, and it will be able to purchase on ear farm on December 1st for a minimum donation of $5.00. The details on the tracklisting and official cover art are still pending but be sure to head over to Ear Farm’s Store Page to purchase it on December 1st.

It is great to see such a wonderful project like this, and I think we should all take notice of it and help out. At the very least, this project is going to motivate me to try and help others over this winter by doing what I can.

Midnight Masses are a band that I have just been introduced to thanks to a press email.

They are Brooklyn band that have impressed me greatly in a short period of time. I have only heard the song “Walk On Water” but what a song it is! It is beautifully arranged with haunting melodies and vocals. It is set to show up on their new EP, titled, Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body. The awesomely titled EP comes out laterthis winter. Record label Team Love partnered with the band for their EP’s release.

“Walk On Water” features TV On The Radio’s Jaleel Bunton, along with fellow TVOTR band-mate Gerard Smith who gets credit with the production duties on the EP. It is a wonderful song that deserves to be played to warm you up on the coldest winter night. I can already envision “Walk On Water” on many winter playlists alongside Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens.

Their EP drops on 12/8, with a vinyl release following on 12/15. It will available at their merch store soon. In the meantime, go buy some other merch from them! If your in the NYC area this week they are playing two shows. Dates are posted below! :
