Slant - Beyond Ordinary

Just like its definition Slant is nothing ordinary. Take two brothers from Russia, hook them up with two Bengali guys, and throw in inspiration from Nirvana and Tool. The result is Slant.

Childhood friends Munir Haque and Fahim Zaman began jamming together and writing songs structured on older ideas from Fahim. An amazing drummer Andrew Karpman came to them through a mutual friend and Andrews bass player brother Ilya, would often support the band while on weekend leave from the Marines. In 2002, Ilya became slants permanent bassist. Slant is Fahim (vocals/Guitar), Munir (guitar) and Andrew (drums) and Ilya (bass guitar).

Who's scared? Nobody cares when you lose sight, on what youre looking for. They've clipped your wings and you cant fly anymore What began as a simple guitar warm-up is now Broken Wings. An edgy, dark rock song you cant help but chant along to. This song has been heard throughout radio stations in the us and over seas and also landed a spot of the video game Pop star guitar on Wii and playstation.

Two college friends, with a similar taste in music, decided to have fun while jamming together. Deep on the drums and Bibek on the bass never thought that they would play in a band until they met Soumyabir (pittu) through common friends. Thus the idea of starting a band took form in their mind and they started to look for a vocalist. Fortunately, their search was short as they met Kunzang in a concert. Thus the band was formed - Deeptaroop on the drums, Bibek on the bass, Soumabir on the guitar and Kunzang provided the power vox they needed.

MJ’s music career actually began at the age of 8 with guitar lessons. She found that she was able to pick up the ability to play the instrument with great ease. By the age of 10, she developed an interest in dance, acting and singing. The odd thing about MJ was she loved being onstage for dancing and acting but, she was terribly scared to sing in front of anyone. Finally, she was basically forced to sing at a dance recital. That first time onstage singing got her over her fear and she realized how much fun and exhilarating it is. With this new found excitement, she joined a local singing group. The group performed at county fairs, community events, and the Indiana state fair. She sang with the group for a couple of years and developed a following at the community events. Her music myspace came about as an experiment. She started the music myspace in August of 2007. By August of 2008 she had reached over 10000 friends. She has now over 20000 followers on myspace.

It was when the four students (Shinjan, Shreya, Subhayu, Saptarshi) from different batches and departments of Future Institute of Engineering and Management came together to form a music club that the idea of this band was first conceived. There was no fixed drummer. In some of the first stage shows the audience would be surprised at the sight of the drummer and the guitarist changing roles. Then Anindya joined as the drummer. We were still learning about live acoustics and on stage glitches that can upset all pre-determined plans. Soon Soumyadeep joined as the guitarist and Subhayu shifted to bass. With Shinjan and Shreya on vocals and Saptarshi on the keyboards the band was named Nevermind. Later on Shinjan had to leave for Mumbai and Arunava joined as a brilliant young vocalist.

The Pennydrops Band - A Pop Punk Band From Calcutta

The Pennydrops Band, commonly known as "PDB" is a pop punk band from Calcutta, trying to do something much different from the other bands. This three piece package is known for their totally "freaked out" and "extremely energetic stage presence". With their Energetic Punk music, bold attitude, and stupid onstage jokes, they've made a pretty decent mark in the Calcutta rock scene. They believe in onstage enjoyment rather than nervousness and tension to be tight and accurate. The band loves innovation and aims at creating a genre fusing punk and emo with their own stupidity, playing non conventional stuff.
