The MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series Comes To Wasaga Beach This Weekend

On September 11th the MultiSport Triathlon takes place in Wasaga Beach Area 1.

Just follow the groans of exhaustion. I feel tired just looking at the list of events.

Sprint Duathlon -   5km Run | 20km Bike | 2.5km Run

Sprint Triathlon -   750m Swim | 20km Bike | 5km Run

Olympic Distance Triathlon -   1500m Swim | 40km Bike | 10km Run

Give-It-A-Tri -    400m Swim | 10km Bike | 2.5km Run

Olympic Distance Swim-Bike -  1500m Swim | 40km Bike

Sunday 12th sees the “Island Girls and Guys Wasaga Beach Half Marathon & 5K” starting at 9am.

You Can See Where This Review Is Going!!

Let me say at the outset I was hesitant to write this post; I don’t like to be negative and prefer to support local business. BUT not everywhere is that good as you shall see.

I had high hopes when I went with my wife and daughter to the opening night of the new Italian restaurant on Hwy 26. My plan was to take a photo of the sign and use it on this post. That was going to be my way of remembering the restaurant’s name. I didn’t bother but I think it is called Sirena.

Anyway it is where the Riviera restaurant use to be on Hwy 26 between Wasaga Beach & Collingwood. I use to like the Riviera but there was no atmosphere. I think basically having the same type of food as the hugely popular Rockdell just down the road was a recipe for failure- please excuse the pun

So an Italian seemed a good idea.

Opening night. “You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.” Watch Gordon Ramsey’s “Kitchen Nightmares” and you know the importance of getting it right from the start.

In total I think there were 14 diners, not a huge number. To me the most important thing about a restaurant is the service. Yes you want good food but poor service can ruin fantastic food.

We waited 90 minutes for our meal.

George waited 2 hours. He had arrived before us and his 3 dining companions were “lucky” enough to only wait 90 minutes. They had finished before Georges meal arrived.

Another couple were there before us and still there waiting for their food after we had eaten and left.

With this type of service the quality of the food is really irrelevant. BUT although I am not an expert in Italian cuisine I do not like my meal to be lukewarm. My wife prefers her Ricotta and Spinach crepes to not be cold when they are served.

We didn’t bother complaining as waiting another 90 minutes didn’t appeal.

Things may improve there but I won’t be wasting $70 again.

Registration This Week At The Danceroom Wasaga Beach For Fall Classes

My 8 year old daughter recently had a fantastic week at the Danceroom, Sunnidale Corners in Wasaga Beach. She absolutely loved it; great teachers and great fun. Need less to say she has insisted she goes back this autumn for weekly classes

This Tuesday and Thursday (September 7th & 9th) registration takes place between 5-30 and 7-00pm. If anyone can’t make registration will take place for the next few weeks as well.

Following on from July the number of homes sold in Wasaga Beach was once again down in August compared to August 2010. Just over 10% less homes sold.

The average price though was up just over 15%.

For 2010 the number of homes sold is still up over 2009 as is the average price year on year. However the market does seem to be slowing down. The higher sales in early 2010 can possibly be attributed to the “fear” of interest rate rises from July on and also the impact of HST; buyers bought sooner rather than later.

Now that people realise that rates are not shooting up and are understanding the actual impact of the new HST when buying a home we may see more buyers taking action. From personal experience and talking to other agents the buyers have just not been willing to commit and have taken a wait and see attitude.

For buyers there is a lot of homes to choose from and as a result realistic pricing by serious sellers.

Average Sale Price August 2009 – August 2010 $266,438.

Average Sale Price August 2008 – August 2009  $247,479.
