Suicide – the only way? The word suicide originates from Latin “suicidium”, which means to kill oneself. To commit suicide means that you deliberately kill yourself. Suicide is most often related with diseases such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia etc. We see that reasons for committing suicide vary from disease to environment. Although all suicides have one common quality: they all represent »a way out«. And a way out can be seen from two perspectives, the first is closely connected with some kind of idea about afterlife and therefore represents »a passage« from this (cruel) world to a place without suffering (it varies from religion to religion). The second is connected with materialist view (the human body disintegrates completely, when you die you seize to exist completely) and represents just a way out (nothing more). I think this is the frame in which we should interpret this graffiti. A young girl is holding a gun to her face. She is clearly driven to the point she can’t take it anymore. She is a child dependent on her parents. (Parents help children to evolve, but in a way they see appropriate and everything that deviates from their views is forbidden.) I think that the little girl represents the West society and that parents are the guardians of the system (consumer society) in which we live today. We depend on the system. We can only act in accordance with the system rules. We can’t change anything as long as we are in a system. So we’re trapped and the only way to get out is to “destroy” ourselves (stop consuming more than we need, end our way of thinking etc.). The question is whether we will survive after we defeat the system or we are so much incorporated within it that we will die with it. The graffiti is actually saying: The little girl decided to take the risk. What will you do?

We have different kinds of sexual orientation, such as lesbians, gays, transsexuals, heterosexuals,.. But people do not accept all of them especially homosexuals because they think that it is not natural to be with someone who is the same sex as you are. This belief is wrong, because we are all humans with hearts and brains, so we have to accept people for who they are and not care for their sexual orientation or skin colour or religious belief. It is not fair because we all live on the same planet so we have to take care of it together and not be devided by sexual orientation.

Today’s technology has developed so far, that it is all around us no matter where we are or what we do. I think that computer addiction is the worst, because you can do many things on computer, such as play computer games, search on the internet, write essays,.. People, especially youth and small children use computer for fun, so they do not stop and become addicted. From that on it is hard to explain to them, that the use of computer is bad for their development and that they can also have fun outside with their friends. It is also science’s fault for addiction because they are inventing more and more things that prevent people to have a normal life without addiction or spending time for unnecessary things.

This graffiti represents an American alternative rock band which was formed in 1986 in Boston, USA. The players of The Pixies are: Black Francis- vocal, Joey Santiago- lead guitar, Kim Deal- bass and David Lovering- drums. Between the year 1993 and 2004 they took a little time off, but returned with refreshing songs and become world famous. Most of the songs were composed by Francis, some of them are: Allison, Hey, Bone machine and my personal favourite Where is my mind. Their songs are full of rhythm and energy so when you are listening to them, you either want to sing with them out loud or jump up and down.

In this graffiti I see two meanings. The first one is the pursuance of love and the second one is that love is blind. The first meaning tells us that every person is looking for someone special and someone to love, because people need another person by their side to help them get through the life, to solve problems or to feel happy. That love is blind means that love does not select the person with blond or black hair, blue or brown eyes, because love can see, love can feel another person’s heart. If the heart is kind and warm, then the first heart falls in love and tries to get the second heart. When two persons are in love, they feel incredible things because love makes you do crazy things.

It is said that you can not buy luck. What about the 4-leaf clover, which can be found on the field or in the garden. People all over the world believe that if you pick the 4-leaf clover, you will get lucky. Luck is not materialistic, but still makes people happy when they find it. Nowdays people are only happy when they get materialistic things, but we have to learn to appreciate small things. The 4-leaf clover is one of the symbols that represents luck and happiness. It is not a thing, but still makes you happy, because you believe that you might get lucky. I found this graffiti near the Faculty of Social Sciences and I personally believe, that someone made this graffiti that people can have a happy day.

Comment:	This graffiti tells us a lot about today's reality. People are not satisfied with the government and political system. World capitalism is now quite commonly used to describe the social system in which we now live. Capitalism is generally considered to be an economic system which is based on private ownership and creation of goods for profit. It is commonly known that capitalism associated with social inequality and unfair distribution of wealth and power. This means that many people live a life in poverty and just a small group of people live in wealth. In other words, the goods are owned by a small minority of people. There is a question: Why are people not satisfied with that system? It can be logically concluded, that this is because of social and economic inequality, which make people feel unhappy and inferior.

Comment:	I think this graffiti shows us today′s reality. Nowadays we are addicted to a wide range of things. Let me list some of the »modern addictions« : shopping addiction, mobile phone addiction, computer or internet addiction, music addiction, tanning addiction. These are things which make our life more comfortable and interesting. We can not imagine our lives without computers or mobile phones, because we think we inevitably need them, but on the other hand, we are not aware that we might become technilogy addicts . Television addiction may be comparable to drug addiction or gambling. It can be extremely difficult to control and it can occur any age. People like to spend time in front of the television, watching TV series, shows and films. We must bear in mind that watching TV more than 2 hours per day raises risk of heart disease. But it is even more concerning that even children spend a lot of time in front of the television. Thus, for many of us, limiting our television usage and getting away from all screens (TV, mobile phone, computer) can be a big challenge.

Comment:	FIFA World Cup in June 2002 was held in South Korea and Japan. For our little Slovenia, that was the first time that we attended such an event. Although Slovenian team didn’t make it into the second round, the enthusiasm of each and every Slovenian citizen was enormous. We all had big expectations for our team. The excitement is also seen in this graffiti painted all over the house. “Slovenija gre naprej” is a slogan, taken from Peter Lovšin’s song which encouraged our footballers on their way to South Korea, and above it, there is one of the best Slovenian players of that time, Zlatko Zahović. The authors of this graffiti are very passionate football fans and they have shown us their enthusiasm. But I wonder how their parents were “excited” when they came home and saw the new decoration on the house.

Comment:	This graffiti can be seen on the wall in front of Abbey Road Studios in London which is where The Beatles recorded all of their 13 albums. The area around the studios has become a place of pilgrimage for Beatles fans and is graffited with many of their lyrics and quotes. One of the messages that stands out from them is the one in the graffiti. It is a reference to a song named titled Michelle, written by Paul McCartney of the Beatles in 1965. The song not only influenced other musicians (it has been covered for several dozen times) but also had an impact on general public. The graffiti was probably written by a Beatles fan whose parents were also fans of the Beatles and decided to name their child after one of The Beatles' songs. By seeing this text and all the other graffitis around the studios, one can quickly realize why the Beatles are regarded as a cultural phenomenon. Even though it has been more than 40 years since their break-up, they are still an important influence for young bands as well as a subject of many sociological books which try to analyse the reasons for their popularity.

Comment:	The sentence: Life is free! can be interpreted in different ways. One way is that life cannot be free for many reasons. Firstly you have to survive and you have to pay for basic necessities. Secondly, nobody can be fully free because in societies there are limits as to what you can and what you cannot do. The frequently heard sentence »I want to be free«, relates to this. Thirdly, many people will never be completely free because they wish to escape their situation, for example prison, mental institution, marriage etc. Thus freedom also depends on the situation and on the environment where the person is living. Another way of looking at this sentence is that life is given to us and we do not have to pay for it. When a newborn becomes a new member of a family, the child is considered free because he/she does not have any worries or any problems. But still, I think even adults should stay positive and think that life is really free.

Comment:	Batman is a fictional character, created by artist Bob Kane. The first story about Batman was published in Detective Comics written by Bill Finger. Batman’s story is mysterious because his real name is actually Bruce Wayne who is an American billionaire, industrialist and philanthropist. He also witnessed the murder of his parents. This tragic event happened when he was a child. In order to revenge the murder of his parents, he decided to be a hero in a way. He trained himself to become physically and intellectually a strong person. He was known as a handsome and sexy man, according to his female fans. He created a costume, which was inspired by the bat. His outfit was made from leather. To stay mysterious he wore a black mask in a shape of a bat. Also he had a yellow logo in which was drawn a bat. This outfit, I assume, is the reason why he is called Batman. Compared to other heroes or superheroes he does not have any superpowers. He uses intellectual abilities, detective skills, science and technology etc. We could say he is a brave, strong human being who wants to make the world a more pleasant place for others.

Comment:	In this graffiti, we can see a contrast between the title and the picture. It does not present the whole picture and we can just imagine what happened. We can see a woman, holding a smoking gun, so I assume she shot somebody or something, perhaps in self-defense. The interesting thing is that her face is red as if she was shot in the face. The title MISS PEACE might mean that this lady could be an agent or even miss peace like, for example Cat-woman or some other female savior. It is possible that she was hurt on her duty. But still, it is a fantasy because she could not survive if she was shot in the face.

The graffiti represents basketball club Union Olimpija which is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Most of the matches were played in the sportshall Tivoli in Ljubljana. The club was founded in 1946. The first game they won was against the Udarnik team. The result was 37-14. Through its history the team has had many names, but the name that has stayed is Union Olimpija. If you are wondering if the team is good or bad, let me tell you, that they have won 479 times, but lost 353 times. They are not the only basketball team in Slovenia, but is surely the most known among the people. You can recognize the team by the colour green and white, sometimes also by the green dragon symbol, which many fans wear on their T-shirts, caps, scarves and other things that people can buy in the store of Union Olimpija.

The picture we see above, taken in Ljubljana's suburban area Črnuče, is likely to be understood as a Yugoslav take on one of the most powerful and notorious messages of 1970s. The famous phrase derives from an eponymous song, written and performed by an English punk band the Sex Pistols back in 1976, and is now arguably the most iconic symbol of anarchism. By the definition found in the Oxford dictionary, anarchism means an absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual, regarded as a political ideal. The original idea of anarchism can be found in the works of Taoist philosopher Laozi way back in the 6th century BC and had its followers throughout the history. As a popular social movement in the West, anarchism occurred during 1960s and 1970s and was strongly associated with punk rock music. Anarchists believe in a revolution by the working class which will overthrow the governments, and thus create a society run and controlled by those who actually produce the wealth of the world. Gathering from what we see in the grafitti, the idea spread geographically and had enough power and influence to still occur today.

This graffiti represents sports company Adidas. The company was founded in 1948 by Adolf Dussler and his brother Rudolf. It is currently based in Germany and it consists of the Reebok sportswear company, Taylor-made Adidas golf company and Rockport. The company produces sport clothes, shoes, bags, watches,.. Adidas is the biggest sportswear company in Europe and the second-biggest in the world, besides the Nike company. We can recognize the Adidas brand by its well-known symbol and logo:-three lines and the name Adidas. Just walking down the street you may notice many people wearing clothes and accessory by Adidas, although this is expensive mark, so not everyone can afford it.

Comment:	The graffiti shows a famous and well known character, Bart Simpson, from the animated television series The Simpsons. Probably everyone of us watched the cartoon at least once and we all know the Simpson family in which Bart is the eldest child. He is a son of Homer and Marge and has two younger sisters named Lisa and Maggie. The Simpsons represent an American middle class family that lives in a town called Springfield. Homer is shown as a working man who financially takes care of the family, Marge is a typical housewife, Maggie is the youngest child who sucks her pacifier all the time, Lisa is Marges favourite daughter and Bart a ten year old who is always causing trouble. The family is very dysfunctional but despite that they love and take care of each other. After the release of The Simpsons we could find Barts pictures almost everywhere. Teenagers wear T-shirts with his character, there are stickers, posters and other things. I think that the reason why his character was and still is such a success is because of his rebellious attitude and pride by which many teenagers are inspired.

Comment:	This graffiti has at least three interpretations. Because it is in Trbovlje it could mean Trbovlje Hard Core, which is a slang expression used by teenagers to express their feelings about the city they live in. It means that Trbovlje is a city that has its own rules and it is quite unlikely to change drastically anytime soon. The second meaning could refer to The THC Association for culture and art production. The association was established in the late eighties and is still active today. They organize music concerts and help new groups to breakthrough. The third interpretation of the graffiti could be THC as an agent found in the cannabis plant. It is hallucinogenic drug which is self- administered by smoking. People usually feel calm and relaxed, but it can also have negative effects. So perhaps the person who made this graffiti is a member of THC Association or a teenager who thinks Trbovlje is hardcore or maybe someone who likes the effects of THC in drugs.

I think graffiti is beautifully made and it is a nice way to present and advertise a club or a shop. Snowboarding has become very popular all around the world including Slovenia. There are many clubs where younger children can learn how to snowboard just for fun or to compete. Snowboarding is also an Olympic sport with many participants from different countries. For some people it represents an escape from daily life, because snowboarding gives them a feeling of freedom. It connects people with the same interest and on the other hand it is very enjoyable to watch and these are probably also the reasons why snowboarding has become so popular among teenagers in the past years.

I think this graffiti is perfect for our modern world because the sign below stands for peace and every single person in this world wants to live without problems. Today, people and countries are in constant conflict because of politics, economy or market. These conflicts, especially between countries, are manifested in physical violence and fighting, for instance war. Each country has its own opinion about different things which may be in contrast with views of some other country. The main reason for war is that countries do not find common ground and they do not see any other solution but war. When two or more countries are in war, innocent people draw the short straw. They may become physically or emotionally hurt, they may lose their loved ones or their home. People are tired of listening to the governments about their disputes, they are tired of arguing and not solving anything. With that kind of graffiti people want to show that the actions of government affect the nation. I found this grafitti in town Ljubljana (Slovenia), more exactly in Črnuče.

Although this is the logo of a delicious restaurant, it really attracts me to go in and enjoy the food! 在我的想法裡面，在牆中間的那個娃娃非常可愛而這面塗鴉牆的背景顏色使用了很大膽的綠色雖然這只是在餐廳外面的依個圖騰但是當我看到了這個圖騰他彷彿會吸引我進去這間餐廳享受美食一般!
