The challenge is that when they change their screen from large to small, they probably already have the larger images downloaded and available offline, so scaling them in the browser only using CSS is a way better option than downloading the smaller versions. When you scale up the screen size you might wonder whether downloading larger images would be of added value. After all larger images are still available when clicking on the smaller versions in text, and, in general, the difference between the horizontal and the vertical size of the screen isn't that large so your images might not increase that much between the different orientations. Nevertheless, should you find it necessary to present the larger images, I guess you could easily extend this solution with support for the browser window resize detection to replace the image URLs and add to them the reference to another image rendition.

Hello,
this solution (as most others) require reload of the page which is not very convenient. E.g. user may change orientation of the mobile screen from vertical to horizontal, and image will remain the same, while there will be more available space and we can show larger image. In order to improve it there should be combination of image renditions for minimizing traffic and dynamic scaling (e.g. js based) for better UX when width is changed not significantly.

I'm trying to use this in SP2010 and am not having much luck at all. I'm very new to SharePoint and not a strong programmer so need some more detailed instructions that what is being presented here so I hope you can help me.

I've added the code you listed for "complete short summary template" to ItemStyle.xsl and then added the "call-template name="Imtech.GenerateSummary" block of code in a div layer at the bottom of the default template. I then added a CQWP to my page, and selected "Imtech.GenerateSummary" for the Item Style and don't get any summary at all. If I set the "Description" property in the CQWP configuration to "Page Content;", I get the HTML for the full page/the HTML is not stripped out. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to export the CQWP and modify it to get this to work? Do I need to use something other than the OOTB CQWP? Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks. #frustrated

It's a standard SharePoint WSP, so you should install it just as you would install any other WSP.
