I have a quick announcement and also a little tip for designing your Web site. The official Chubby Bunny Web site will be viewable at http://cb.wittymonkey.com/. It's offline now, so you can't view the site yet, but that's what I want to talk about. No, not the site, the offline page. What's so special about it? If you view the page above, you will see that the offline page is not the normal one you usually see. It isn't a white background with a border around a little box with the Joomla! logo, your site name, some text, and a login box. I have my own logo, a cool brown background and no bordered box. You can easily change the look of your offline page using template overrides.

A couple days ago, I announced that I would be working on a template tutorial. Well, I thought that it would be best if I had a whole site that was dedicated to Joomla templates, since this site is really my business site. With that, I announce the new Witty Monkey Subsite.

As you may know, I specialize in Joomla templates. When I first started I tried looking for template tutorials but never quite found a good one. I used what I could off of the Joomla Documentation site, but learned mostly from Barrie North's book Joomla - A User's Guide. At the time, it was really hard to get through it for someone who had some knowlegde in CSS and little knowledge in PHP. Template Tutorials have gotten better, but I have yet to find a good one.

Jun 31, 2009 - Special Days

Today we have two "holidays". The first one is a real good one (especially for you Web guys). Today is System Administrator Appreciation Day. I found out there's a whole Web site for this "holiday" called SysAdmin Day. You can learn from there what a SysAdmin is (in case you don't know) and they also have some other goodies as well. But make sure you send a thank you message to those admins, believe me, they do a lot! I plan to send a message to the guys over at Rochen.

Today is also flag day in Hawaii (officially called La Hae Hawai`i).

Well, that's it for today. Just as a side note, I get all these "holidays" (I call them Special Days) from a site called Earth Calendar.

Woopur Beta 1.1

The WM Woopur template has now reached version Beta (1.1). I added some new menu styles (when you use module suffixes) and added a "return to top" link. However, the biggest feature is the integration of some of the Mootools scripts.

I found a new Web site that could have a lot of potential. It's another template site, but this one seems different. Personally, I tend to dislike template sites like Rocket Theme and Joomlart, because their designs seem so bloated and busy (and honestly, they all look the same to me). However, I have found JoomlaJunkie and Joomla Praise to be better. Anyway, Pixel Theme studio is a new template site that offers both Joomla and Wordpress themes/templates.

I never knew this, but you can actually implement an upgrade method for Joomla extensions. This way users don't have to unzip the upgrade package and upload the files to their Web server, they can just install the upgrade from the back-end.

Witty Monkey has released its third Joomla template called Woopur! The name and template design actually came from a little side-project I was working on (I decided to drop it though). I refurnihsed the template and decided to call it Woopur. I plan to add some neat features and make it a little more graphically enhanced.
