Legacy CASS system capability is extended through the eGPI subsystem by adding hybrid functionality to the digital subsection of the existing GPI. With VTI's eGPI, I/O pins currently dedicated to digital test can now be used to route signals, with up to 1 GHz bandwidth to RF instrumentation, as well to an internal analog measurement bus. "The eGPI subsystem leverages VTI's successful implementation of CASS-compatible switching for the RT-CASS program and is designed to improve the maintainability of large ATE systems by eliminating analog cabling to improve signal integrity" said Tom Sarfi, VTI's VP of Business Development. "We are proud to be a part of this significant program for the Navy, and further establish ourselves as the premier supplier of core ATE switching systems".

The eGPI allows the Navy to maintain its large installed base of legacy test program sets (TPS) while creating the flexibility required to support next generation platforms. VTI's award-winning EX1200 modular switch and I/O instrument, which implements a convenient LAN/LXI-based interface for command and control of the switching module, is the core of the new eGPI subsystem. This solution also integrates Virginia Panel Corporation's Series 80 mass interconnect modules into the interface. VTI delivered its first eGPI prototype as part of Lockheed's capabilities demonstration in late 2009. The contract award calls for delivery of 14 engineering development units during the system design phase of the project in mid-late 2011.
When combined with any EX1200 mainframe, this competitively-priced turnkey solution can be used to satisfy a wide range of data acquisition requirements.
”The EX1200 series provides a powerful combination of LXI Class A precision synchronization and high-density signal switching, measurement and control modules that service a variety of data acquisition applications,” said Business Development Manager Tom Sarfi. “Our latest DAC Express upgrade delivers an easy-to-use programming-free environment that allows engineers to begin collecting and analyzing data within minutes.”
DAC Express 3.5 enables users to monitor and record temperature, voltage, current, resistance, frequency, and period measurements without any programming required. When used with the Ethernet/LXI-based EX1200, this software offers the ability to select from a flexible set of alarm conditions. For example, designated personnel worldwide can be notified via email when critical test data exceeds its limits

EX1200 relays and analog/digital output can also be controlled by alarm events to drive devices that are outside the system. With DAC Express 3.5, users can construct virtual (calculated) channels with a combination of multiple inputs. They can also create virtual channels that provide the flexibility to generate events only when multiple input conditions have been satisfied.
Modular and flexible, the EX1200 offers the simplicity of Ethernet connectivity and can monitor and record over 450 channels in a single rack U mainframe. The intuitive DAC Express graphical interface allows users to quickly set up EX1200 scan sequences, customize displays, and export acquired data to Excel or MATLAB.
The SMP3620, SMP3625 and SMP7000 increase the flexibility of VTI’s popular SMIP product family by including analog output (0 – 35 V) and custom breadboard design capabilities.
The SMIP series’ ability to mix and match signal switching and analog output in a modular VXI architecture is a unique feature that is unmatched by similar platforms. The new modules offer increased flexibility for test system designers by adding custom development options on a COTS platform and high-density digital-to-analog converters suitable for testing avionics subassemblies.
“VTI’s SMIP series has set the standard for modular, high-density switching in demanding mil/aero applications that range from DC to light,” said Tom Sarfi, Business Development Manager. “Because of the SMIP’s modular architecture, multiple functions can be accommodated in either one- or two-slot carriers. These new modules bring increased functionality to the SMIP product family that can further optimize system footprint and lower overall costs.”

The SMP3620 is a high-density digital-to-analog converter with 24 channels per plug-in with programmable outputs from 0 – 35 V DC. The SMP3625 provides 16 channels of 70 V peak-to-peak 400 Hz output. The SMP7000 is a breadboard with an interface to the VXIbus that allows engineers to easily add custom circuits to their system designs. The user-friendly SO Analyzer 3.3 features sound quality and sound playback modules. When combined with VTI’s hardware, these modules can assist in the reduction of noise levels from sources including automobiles, household appliances, and commercial airplanes. Sound playback also provides engineers with additional indicators for milestones and changes during testing. The Sound Quality Module displays functions of loudness that can be viewed as 2D, 3D or spectrograms for further analysis.
“For many years, VTI has provided world-class hardware solutions for the sound and vibration test industries that deliver the highest degree of data integrity,” said Chris Gibson, VTI Business Development Manager. “This latest release of SO Analyzer ensures that engineers working in noise reduction have a powerful set of software tools that facilitate data analysis, playback and display.”

SO Analyzer supports the following VXIbus modules from VTI: VT1432B, VT1433, VT1434, VT1435 and VT1436. The software supports all native sample frequencies from 1024 Hz to 102.4 kHz, input modes including AC/DC floating or grounded, and a user-selectable ICP source on each channel. VTI’s EX2500 LAN card or the IEEE-1394 Firewire board can function as the computer interface. SO Analyzer runs on Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, XP and Vista.
Additional features include standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis, which have been added to the value table functions. A new Project Catalog Utility is now available in the File menu to help organize and manage large data quantities. They further enhance the signal switching capabilities of VTI’s EX1200 Precision Switch, Measure and Control family of products.

“The addition of these modules further expands the flexibility and versatility that engineers demand to meet ever-changing test system requirements,” said Jon Semancik, VTI’s Director of Marketing. “The scalable EX1200 provides cost-effective core platform capabilities without sacrificing performance or signal integrity.”

The EX1200 is the highest density switching platform available and the only LXI Class A subsystem on the market. Test engineers can use the EX1200 modules for applications ranging from half rack 1U to full rack 3U while maintaining signal integrity across multiple modules. The EX1200 includes a full-featured 6.5 digit DMM, precision analog and digital I/O modules, and an internal analog expansion bus.

The -3164 provides 16 independent (1 x 4) multiplexers that can be reconfigured under software control to build up to a single 64-channel multiplexer. This configuration offers flexibility when multiplexing various inputs to a common resource. The -4128 is a (4 x 128) crosspoint multiplexer that allows multiple resources to be shared by multiple output channels. The -6216 enables high-density RF switching capable of supporting two 16-channel 1 GHz multiplexers.

The new modules allow users to build very flexible switching subsystems that span DC to light. The simplified software infrastructure of the EX1200 allows path-level switching through an IVI switch interface. The robust soft front panel enables direct monitoring and control without the addition of third-party software.
The EX7000 Microwave Switching Subsystem provides an open platform COTS core that can be easily configured for a variety of custom applications.

With access to thousands of components and data sheets using VTI’s Broadband Integrated Design Wizard, a custom design can be defined and configured in less than one day. This represents a true paradigm shift away from design methodologies used in the past. The finished subsystem is supplied with complete documentation to simplify long-term support and ensure product reusability.

“Quicker time-to-test is one of our key objectives when considering new product development activities,” said Jon Semancik, VTI’s Director of Marketing. “The EX7000 has been so successful because of its simplified subsystem design and reduced software integration activities – all in an open platform COTS solution.”

All EX7000 subsystems leverage LXI, the Ethernet-based instrumentation interface standard, to ensure the highest level of connectivity and performance. An application-specific graphical user interface (GUI) is automatically generated from the design documents and ready for out-of-the-box operation with any web browser worldwide. Additionally, path-level instrument drivers based on the IVI-COM and IVI-C classes eliminate the need for custom software driver development and testing.
As part of VTI’s EX1000 series, this instrument provides industrial grade isolation and input protection across a broad range of transducers and input types.

“The EX10SC is the perfect complement to the EX1000 series of precision data acquisition instruments,” said Jon Semancik, VTI’s Director of Marketing. “Virtually any transducer type can be seamlessly integrated with the EX1000 family to deliver unmatched measurement flexibility and performance.”

The EX10SC provides the ability to integrate thermocouple, RTD, thermistor, strain gage, pressure, voltage, and frequency inputs into the EX1000A, EX1016A and EX1032A data stream. Features such as 1500 V rms isolation and 240 V AC input protection allow users to safely address the most challenging environments without sacrificing measurement integrity.

Input channels can be configured individually by matching the signal characteristics with the appropriate signal conditioning module. This design enables exceptional measurement flexibility. Additionally, LAN-based LXI Class A connectivity delivers a scalable architecture, which is ideal for distributed measurements, along with over-the-wire synchronization of multiple devices and time stamping. Placing the instrumentation near the test article also reduces setup time and support costs.

Irvine, CA – November 17, 2009 – VTI Instruments Corporation announced today the release of the EX1200-7416, a transient capture and timestamp module that further extends the capabilities of its popular EX1200 series of configurable LXI Class A instruments. With a rich feature set, it supports a broad range of applications that require level comparison, event detection, and time stamping.

“The EX1200-7416 is ideal for applications like power supply monitoring where it is critical to detect
out-of-tolerance conditions that require immediate intervention,” said Jon Semancik, VTI’s Director of Marketing. “It can be combined with other EX1200 plug-ins to create a versatile, multifunction instrument that can be used in a variety of data acquisition and test applications.”
The EX1200-7416 has 16 input channels and can continuously monitor a variety of high-level analog and discrete signals – up to 100 V. Each channel has an 8-bit DAC that can be independently programmed to set the trip level. The EX1200-7416 can detect transients that cannot normally be captured by a typical DMM or scanning measurement system. As part of the EX1200 LXI Class A instrument series, this module can also record events with IEEE 1588 time codes to provide a precise correlation of event/time data.

Input channels can be internally routed to the optional EX1200 series DMM to measure the analog level of the signals. The reference DACs can also be routed to the internal DMM to facilitate self-verification that can be executed under program control.

The robust soft front panel enables direct monitoring and control without the addition of third-party software
