Hello!

Thanks to all of you spreading the word about the Derivative/Plastikman visuals call. We are very excited to see what creative new talent there is out there.

And to clarify, the TouchDesigner contest is the only one running at the moment. The Quartz Composer initiative has been postponed until further notice. Sorry for any confusion!

More news about the winner's prize package soon... We'll post here as soon as its finalized.

Thanks and good luck!

er. so you make them some visuals for free and then they play them/make money off them? maybe i'm missing something (and possibly i'm just in a bad mood (very, very possible)) but i'm sick of these art/design 'contests' that basically just farm for free talent..

it doesn't stop there, e-mail citation follows:

__________________

Worldwide touring DJ Richie Hawtin is asking visual designers to participate in an open call to submit their own creations to be displayed during his shows.

In particular, the visuals should be designed in Quartz Composer, a technology provided with Mac OS X for processing and rendering graphical data.

Quartz Composer has been used by Ali Demirel to produce the visuals for the last two years of Richie Hawtin DJ gigs, as well as some of the impressive Contakt shows, and now creatives worldwide are invited to contribute to this visual library.

The technical specifications are as follows:

- must be produced on Quartz Composer, which comes free with Mac OS X on the installation disc (developer tools)

- Quartz Composer files must be produced for version 3.0 (Snow Leopard)

- should have variable controls in the composition for real-time interactivity (via MIDI, OSC or manual)

- be displayed on a 2:1 ratio LED screen, with the resolution at a maximum of 800×400 pixels, depending on the LED type

- no restriction in terms of style, although entrants should keep in mind the aesthetics of previous Minus/Hawtin visualizations

- files no larger than 1MB to be attached (not embedded) in an email with the subject line “Quartz Composer Submission” and mailed to: quartzcomposer(-at-)richiehawtin.com

- do not attach video files please; just the Quartz Composer file on its own

- if you prefer to render your Quartz Composition with music in order to present it in action, please upload it to Vimeo and include the link in the body of your email submission with the Composer file

- Richie Hawtin and Ali Demirel will review all entries to determine which could be incorporated into Hawtin DJ shows in 2010; those chosen will be notified by email over the coming months

- no deadline; we will be looking to constantly adapt and enhance the Hawtin visuals throughout 2010
