Peter the Great was born on May 30, 1672 in the day Isaac of Dalmatia, a Byzantine monk. May 30, 1710 the emperor ordered his people to build the St. Isaac&#39;s wooden church near the Admiralty. The order was executed. The church was built on the shore of the Neva. In Feb. 19, 1712. Peter the Great and his wife Catherine were married in the church.

Today we visit the Hermitage. Now it is one of the largest museums in the world. In 1764, Empress of Russia Catherine II acquired in Germany 225 paintings by Flemish and Dutch artists. History of the Hermitage started with this collection.
