Applications are being accepted for the position of Full-Time Deputy Chief, Fire Division for Bedford County Department of Fire and Rescue. The candidate for this position will perform a variety of difficult administrative and fieldwork duties in supporting the career and volunteer fire service system; provide education geared to increase awareness in the community of a variety of emergency service opportunities, specifically promoting the need for and recruitment of volunteer Fire Suppression personnel; participate in fire safety and fire prevention; promote the role of the Fire and Rescue Department in the community; perform related work as required, including responding as a fire suppression team member to emergency situations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Fire and Rescue.</p>
<p>Candidate must be a minimum of 21 years of age with 5 years driving experience and possess a valid Virginia Motor Vehicle Operators license. <p><strong>BEDFORD COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF FIRE &amp; RESCUE DEPUTY CHIEF, FIRE DIVISION GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:</strong><br />
Performs difficult administrative and fieldwork in supporting the career and volunteer fire service system. Provides education geared to increase awareness in the community of a variety of emergency service opportunities, specifically promoting the need for and recruitment of volunteer Fire Suppression personnel. Participate in fire safety and fire prevention; promote the role of the Fire and Rescue Department in the community; does related work as required including responding as a fire suppression team member to emergency situations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Fire and Rescue. This is a command level executive position.</p>
<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:</strong><br />
This position requires exercising a great deal of self-initiative and possessing the ability to positively interact with the public, volunteers, career staff, support staff, and outside agencies in a professional, courteous and tactful manner during routine and emergency situations. Actions and decisions will have some impact on the County.</p>
<p><strong>TYPICAL TASKS:</strong><br />
• Identify recruitment, retention and educational needs of volunteer fire<br />
suppression personnel;<br />
• Prepare reports of events and statistics relative to Fire &amp; Rescue<br />
specifically for suppression and public education programs;<br />
• Prepare a calendar of programs and events relative to emergency<br />
services education;<br />
• Work with other County departments, agencies, and civic groups to<br />
increase awareness and recruitment, enhance and foster the fire service<br />
image in the community;<br />
• Coordinate and prepare Fire Division education messages for release to<br />
the newspaper, TV, radio, community, and County newsletter.<br />
• Respond to citizen inquires relating to Fire Safety, ISO Ratings, Fire<br />
Service system delivery, recruitment needs and educational programs,<br />
(i.e. Smoke Detector Program, etc.);<br />
• Serve as a member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee;<br />
• Develop a positive working relationship with the Chairman of the Fire<br />
Commission and serve as a liaison to same;<br />
• Provide a clearinghouse to coordinate Fire Service recruitment activities in<br />
the County including the provision of training for Fire Department<br />
members and coordinate with the Fire Chief’s and Training Officer’s to<br />
determine the educational needs of the 12 individual Fire Departments<br />
within the Department of Fire &amp; Rescue;<br />
• Service as a liaison to the Department of Fire &amp; Rescue Safety Officer;<br />
• Assist with preparation of the Department’s annual budget;<br />
• Attend Board of Supervisor’s Meetings as required;<br />
• Attend functions, meetings, and events as an official representative;<br />
• Other duties as may be assigned by the Chief of Fire &amp; Rescue.</p>
<p><strong>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</strong><br />
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four year degree in Public Administration, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Business Administration, or related advanced education in the Fire Suppression and Rescue field; EMT certification; CPR certification; NIMS – ICS 100 – 400 &amp; ICS 700 certification; EVOC certification; Firefighter II certification; Hazardous Materials Operations certification; Fire Marshal certification; Fire Officer certification; and Fire Instructor certification. EFO &amp; CFO/CMO is preferred. General knowledge of radio systems in relation to emergency services and Enhanced 911 telephone operations is preferred; familiarity with NFPA standards, particularly as they relate to NFPA and OSHA requirements and guidelines with emphasis in the area of worker member safety and Health and Safety relevant to fire and rescue operations and personnel; training in the area of public speaking and public education.</p>
<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</strong><br />
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Fire Suppression and EMS; comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of emergency services operations; public information officer skills; knowledge of the organization’s strategic direction, mission, vision, and values as they relate to the Department of Fire &amp; Rescue; must be skillful in communicating with and educating a variety of audiences; ability to employ team oriented problem solving techniques and be capable of motivating new or inexperienced members; committed to continuous quality improvement; ability to identify and interpret trends in the Fire service industry and prevention related issues; develop educational programs; maintain an effective working relationship with emergency service personnel as well as law enforcement.</p>
<p><strong>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong><br />
Candidate must be a minimum of 21 years of age with 5 years driving experience and possess a valid Virginia Motor Vehicle Operators license; possession of certification(s) as listed above; instructor credentials required, or ability to obtain within one year.</p>

<li>Operate and monitor multiple emergency radio frequencies;</li>
<li>Operates computer systems;</li>
<li>Maintains communications with responding emergency units to assist them in any manner necessary to complete proper response;</li>
<li>Document and record requests for service, tracks response and disposition of calls;</li>
<li>Notifies Virginia Department of Transportation of road hazards, including fallen trees, high water, snow, ice, etc.  Notifies power, telephone, and cable companies of down lines.  Notifies rail companies of blocked tracks or malfunctioning arm guards;</li>
<li>Answers telephone; receives inquires and provides information or refers inquiries/messages to the appropriate personnel, department, or agency;</li>
<li>Maintains a clean and orderly work area;</li>
<li>Should possess Basic Dispatcher State Certification, First Aid and CPR certifications.  If not certified, on the job training will be provided until certification is acquired.  Certifications must be obtained within one year from employment date;</li>
<li>Requires working rotating shifts, days, night, weekends, holidays, and during severe weather;</li>

<p><strong>POSITION REQUIREMENTS</strong></p>
<p>High school diploma or GED with certifications as follows: VA EMT-I or P, ACLS, BTLS, ALS or PEPP, Firefighter I, Vehicle Extrication, CPR and EVOC.  Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.  Must pass a state criminal background check.  Thorough knowledge of firefighting techniques and procedures as applied to fire suppression.  Thorough knowledge of emergency medical techniques and procedures.  General knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the County, hazardous materials, accident extrication principles and techniques.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, volun­teers and the general public.</p>

<p>Peninsulas EMS Council, Inc.</p>
<p>Peninsulas EMS Council, Inc. is looking to fill the full time position of EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care). The EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care) is responsible for managing various programs and functions to include the development, implementation, and coordination of the clinical care programs, which may include Regional Performance Improvement Program, Northern Neck Quality Assurance Program, Regional STEMI Plan and Stroke Plan. Work may also involve assignment to any of the council programs when deemed necessary. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Director.</p>
<p>Minimum Education and Experience: Certification as a Nationally Registered or Virginia EMT-Intermediate in good standing with the Virginia Office of EMS, Three (3) years experience in emergency medical services work, and must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.</p>
<p>Preferred Requirements: Associates Degree in health science or related field, certification as a Nationally Registered or Virginia Paramedic, and two (2) years EMS leadership experience.</p>
<p>Pay Rate: $17.00/hr ($35,360.00/year)</p>
<p>Benefits Include: Health Insurance Allowance, Retirement, Cell Reimbursement and Educational Development Allowance</p>

Applicants to be considered for these positions must currently be employed as a firefighter with one of the following jurisdictions: Augusta and Rockingham Counties, Cities of Staunton and Waynesboro.</p>
<p>The following certifications are required: Virginia Firefighter II, EMT and Hazardous Materials Operations, or a VA recognized equivalency.</p>
<p>Successful applicants for this position will be subject to a DMV Motor Vehicle check and must complete a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen.</p>

<p><strong>Salary Ranges:</strong> Intermediate ($37,716-$60,345), Paramedic ($40,545-$64,871).</p>
<p><strong>Qualification Requirements:</strong><br />
Must have high school diploma or equivalent, current certification as an EMT–Intermediate or EMT–Paramedic. Must be certified as an ALS provider and Virginia Emergency Vehicle Operation Certification. Prefer two years previous experience.</p>
