Minnie Mouse Birthday Bash

I did a Mickey Mouse birthday party for our son's 2nd birthday so throwing a Minnie Mouse bash for our daughter's 2nd birthday was so much fun, again! This time, we hosted it at our house and kept it small and simple. I incorporated some of my Valentine's Day decorations too since Miss T loves hearts and it was a perfect mash up!

I was nervous about making the Minnie Mouse cupcakes but I think they turned out cute and definitely set the tone for the food table. I actually spiffy-ed up the cupcakes by putting cookie dough in first before the cake batter to make a cookie bottom. I frosted with butter cream icing and then dipped the cupcake into crushed Oreos. I used two toothpick halves to support mini-Oreos as the ears. The bows were just a dollop of pink frosting in the middle. They aren't technically bows but I think they'll pass. 

I
 also served chocolate chip cookies, strawberry cupcakes with sour cream
 frosting (yum!), V-Day m&m's, strawberry heart shaped 
marshmallows and a fruit tray (got to get some healthy in there!). We 
served strawberry lemonade to drink. 

This
 tower has been such an asset for parties! I cut coordinating scrapbook 
paper to fit the trays and added the shape to the top. Instant, 
coordinating cupcake tower! 

I took down our usual curtains in the dining room just leaving the sheer curtain and then hung streamers from the curtain rod. I topped it by hanging the pinata there. 

I used my Cricut and Mickey Mouse cartridge to make the name banners to hang up. I had also made the heart bunting for Valentine's Day and it matched the party theme perfectly!

I found these beauties hiding in the very back of one of my dad's storage garages. As in, my husband had to pull out all kinds of awkward, heavy objects to unearth these. I'm so glad I married a strong man! 

They were covered with lots of Oklahoma red dirt and were missing a few bolts and screws. 

After a little elbow grease, they came out looking pretty spiffy! Don't you think they would be perfect in a country farmhouse mudroom? Ah! I love them! I want to keep them!

Weekly Booth Update

I am so lucky to have a husband who encourages my dreams and helps me explore them! He has been such a big help in working on my booth space. I know it's not where I'd like it to be yet... I am not crazy about the red wall that shows along with the shelves. I'm debating on painting the wall or covering those shelves with a curtain. It is a work in progress.... 

We were excited to see a few things sold this past week. The antique medicine cabinet already sold along with one of the soda pop crates and a few other little things. So, I got in and had to do a little rearranging. I brought in a few more pillows to fluff things up. 

We added a few magnetic chalkboards along with a selection of my magnetic clips and rosettes. 

Isn't this chair divine? A cute pop of color, for sure!

Our newest treasure to move in is this trio of antique theater seats. These come from a local theater and are an awesome statement piece! I am secretly hoping they don't sell so I can place them in our *future* aka larger home!

Pillows, Pillows Everywhere!

I have really been enjoying making these ruffled pillows lately. It is so fun to pair fabrics and make adorable ruffles. Yes, I LOVE ruffles!!! Be sure to check out my Facebook page! 

This one I made for our bed! It is nice to make something to keep for a change. This one is a pillow cover with an envelope back. 

Chevron Stripes! Ah! Loving this so much! I do have this fabric in gray as well... just haven't had a chance to make something with it. 

This pillow was a custom order. It features vintage lace from my granny's stash. Sweet, sweet!

If you are local, most of these pillows are currently in my booth at the Southwestern Antique Mall. For non-locals, I can always ship!

Booth Space~ Hurray!

Fun things have been going on in these parts... for instance, we opened a booth at an antique mall! It's a very popular antique mall with a lot of foot traffic so I have high hopes that we will be successful! I still have a lot that I want to do to the booth including more doors to cover this icky red shelf & peg board and some more doors. Those things will come... soon enough. 

Here is a peek into the booth... it includes antiques, vintage treasures and some made-new things including my new pillows! Most of these were taken with my phone so not the best quality.

I love this typewriter... I am secretly hoping it does not sell so it can find a home in my house. :)

I love this antique medicine cabinet - it was destined for the dumpster before I swiped in to save it... errr, actually, my brother-in-law saved it for me. It's over 100 years old!

This metal ice box is a sure treasure... it has shelves and all!

I've tried many crafts and recipes that I've found via Pinterest and had great successes! I have several friends who have had failures as well. Mostly, mine have turned out great!

After a trip to the thrift store last week, I turned this sweater into these leg warmers aka boot socks! All for a $1 sweater.

I cut the arms off using the stripes as a guide. I hemmed them quickly to create the legwarmers which double as faux boot socks! 

I also made this tie turned necklace using one of my dad's old ties. Thrift stores normally carry ties for only $1 so this can be a cheap craft. I used unfinished wooden balls from the craft store - when they were on sale 30% off so that helped too. 

I have a board of recipes that I've tried and love! This week I made this potato soup and it was soooo awesome! We added in crumbled bacon (I think ham would be great too) and then added shredded cheese to our bowls of soup. So yummy and EASY!

S'mores Brownies!

Dusty is crazy for s'mores so last week I decided to take boxed brownies to a new level and make s'mores brownies. I realize it's probably not an original idea but I thought I'd share because it's easy and delicious!

I just mixed up a brownie mix and spread it in a baking dish like usual. Then I sprinkled mini-marshmallows across the top and topped it with crumbled graham crackers. Bake as usual and devour while they are warm. Awesome (& easy) s'mores!!!

This coming weekend, I am a vendor at the very first Girl's Day in the Country at Mound Valley Farm. If you are from my area (western Oklahoma) definitely check it out! I'm bringing lots of handmade goodies like appliqued onesies and shirts, burp cloths, tissue pockets, rosette magnets, pins and clips. I've also got lots of magnetic chalkboards, frames and antiques!!! It's going to be a blast so be sure to come by!

Autumn is blooming!

Since returning home from vacation, I've dove into fall decorating and creating! I made a few autumn rosette clusters today for Sarah Found Sarah Made. I thought they turned out cute - they are even cuter on! Perfect to clip on a cardigan, scarf or purse!

I attempted a new autumn wreath too - so far, I'm loving it! The fabric bunting is just pinned on so I can change it out if I'd like. The rosettes are a cluster pin that I stuck on too. It's hanging from a strip of orange fabric that I tacked to the very top of the door for a custom & seamless look! I do love that I can change the wreath up for each holiday/season. I am contemplating adding a big fabric bow to the top... still undecided. 

I hung last year's wreath on our entry mirror and added the J this year. 

I've finished my mantle and just need to finish up the decor in the dining room. Next up, planting pansies, mums and kales! Pin It

New Sewing Projects!

I'm loving my new studio - it makes sewing much more efficient having 
everything within arms length. Before, I set up my cutting mat in the 
dining room, the sewing machine in our bedroom, supplies in the sunroom,
 iron board in the living room, kitchen or our bedroom. Needless to say,
 it was not convenient! 



I made a couple twirl skirts for Miss T along with a couple appliqued 
shirts for an upcoming trip. Bet you can't guess where we are going! :) 

The label makes me feel all official and all. You know big! Ha ha.

I also sewed the kids crayon rolls as a little surprise for the little trip. :)

Ribbon Storage Solution - Guttering!

With my husband's help, we've embarked on a mission to turn my sun room into an efficient craft space. I should have take a "before" photo of my ribbon storage - it was disastrous. Last weekend, the sweet hubby installed this guttering to hold my ribbon. I must say that I am IN LOVE! It's perfect because I usually take the whole roll down to match so it's easy to access.

As far as cost, it wasn't an inexpensive project. I think it came in around $40 from our local hardware store. I think if you purchase the pieces from a big box store, it might be a little cheaper. The brackets and end caps are what got us coming in $3-4 each! The 10' piece of gutter was $8.19. We cut mine into two 4' pieces so that we could center it above the shelving unit below. I really should have used the full 10' and cut it into two 5' sections because I had a few rolls that didn't fit.

I cannot wait to show you the completed space! I am in love but still have a few tweaks - like curtains to make... and order the fabric first!

We had a birthday party for two sweet nieces (we have 6 nieces!) and a baby shower for a precious girl (my cousin's baby) this weekend. My week was filled with Vacation Bible School and trying to get gifts made for these special girls.

This onesie is a sort-of reverse applique. Not technically a reverse applique but a different take on the usual monogram.

I thought a cupcake onesie would be fun and adorable for Miss Peyton

I monogrammed a couple of canvas bags for my nieces. They have a bit of age difference - one turns 8 and one turned 2. I thought this was a gift they could both use. Cayson has a bag this size that he uses for his church activity bag.

This project is really economical too! I bought a 4 pack of bags at Hobby Lobby half off. I did happen to accidentally sew one closed so it's in my bag to rip that seam out to start over on. Ugh. You win some, you lose some, right? I already had all the supplies on hand.

I added bows to help glam them up a bit.

Ruffle Goodness - Aprons

 I made a couple aprons last week using an existing apron as my pattern. I added the ruffle detail because who doesn't love a ruffle!?!? By the way, these are terrible to try to photograph without a model! Guess I should have slapped it on my 4 year old, right? 

Here's my spring aqua charmer! I love this fabric! 

Here's my take on a patriotic number.... a fun navy print paired with red polka dots. I found the navy blue fabric on clearance at Hancock's (think $2/yard). I really do love it and plan on making a few other things with it. I'm also a sucker for anything polka dotted. Ah. So fresh!

I realize I've posted monogrammed onesies before - but wanted to share this one real quick. I'm crazy in love with the turquoise & bright yellow combo! I made Miss T a dress using this combo recently too. The yellow is actually a pillow sham I picked up at a Crate & Barrel outlet. I love re-purposing fabric finds!

A friend recently asked me to try to girlify this baseball shirt for some fun family photos - the kids (all 4 of them!) are going to dress in their Red Sox gear. My dear sister will be shooting the photos to boot!

I thought it was cute how just some bling and a bow takes a boyish shirt to all girly! I know Miss G will rock this shirt at her fun photo shoot!

A little first birthday t-shirt for an owl themed birthday party! I already had the owl print flannel so I used it as the background with a 1 out of some brown minky I had left over from a blanket.

A Mickey Mouse birthday banner for another first birthday! She's doing Mickey/Minnie Mouse so we used the Minnie Mouse colors to girlify it!

I'm sure you've heard of all the bargain sites that are all the rage right now. I am totally into them! Like completely! I get the daily emails and check them first thing every morning! I thought as part of my Friday Favorite, I'd share three of my favorites.

GroopDealz is a site that features handmade products! Awesome! I've bought several rings and necklaces and they are totally adorable. I am debating on a couple of the current deals - a white board decal and these darling sparrow earrings!

I'm sure everyone has heard of Groupon by now. BUT, if you haven't, you need to check it out and sign up! I've bought all kinds of gift certificates. I've bought for Picaboo (to make photo books), Candyopolis, Body Shop, Redbox, etc. Today's deal is a massage.... ah! They even have an iPhone app!

Zulily is another site that I frequent. It is ideal for mommies... they feature products for Moms (think Big Budha bags, Yummy Tummy tops, Sketchers shoes, etc), products for pregnant & nursing mommies and clothes and toys for kids of ALL ages (think adorable boutique clothing, pillow pets, puzzles, etc). I ordered the kids swimsuits this year through them for $10 a pop along with Ruffle Butt apparel for Miss T! So cute! Chocolate Cupcakes with Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting ~ Yum~

Tidy Mom has some amazing cupcakes on her site! I love to drool over them so when I was searching for a recipe for a dessert for a benefit dinner, I ran to her site to search through her archives! It was so hard to pick but I was looking for something I could make with ingredients I had on hand so I came up with these!

The frosting is DIVINE! Fluffy and rich! I will say that the chocolate base needs to be rich. I did a fudge chocolate using her technique (homemade tasting using box cake mix) and it was not rich enough to go with the frosting. Go rich or go HOME! :)

Sloppy Joes

Friday Favorite: Cleaning Products that I Love!

I thought it would be ~~boring~~ fun to share a few of my favorite household products. I know I shared about my new Shark vacuum awhile back. It is still going strong and I actually broke my nearly 8 year old $70 vacuum this week so at the moment the Shark is my go-to for everything.

It's funny, when I find a product I love, my mom always goes out and buys it. I'm like her personal tester. :) Here are a few newer products that I love!

I am all about Windex Multi-Purpose Antibacterial. It's one product that does EVERYTHING. I am all over that!

I just got this new Purex Crystals fabric softener this week for next to free at Walgreens. I LOVE it! It makes my laundry smell amazing and the scent lasts. There's a coupon available on Facebook right now!

Cascade Action Pacs are a lifesaver for me! They have seriously amped up my dishwasher's cleaning power. Our water is terrible - hard, lots of minerals, ick. My dishes don't come out looking sparkling clean but they come out soooo much cleaner when I switched to the Action Pacs. I do use vinegar as my rinse agent and it works much better than the other stuff.

Tide Stain Release has saved me time on pre-treating the piles of laundry from Cayson... he happens to be a "slider" so his jeans always have stains on the knees. Not to mention, he's a BOY, so there's always dirt and food. I guess I should also mention that Taryn is the messiest eater EVER so these have helped with her clothes too! I just throw them in the loads that I know have stuff on the clothes and normally, that's all that is needed. They come out sparkling clean and smell good too! You can also snag a coupon here!

New Recipe! Creamy Pasta & Sausage

I tried out another new dish last night that turned out delicious! Everyone in our house enjoyed it and the ingredients are so simple! Dusty did think it tasted similar to the Creamy Mexican Skillet but I informed him that the ingredients were completely different. It made a lot! I mean, it uses an entire box of pasta. It was great for lunch today too!

Creamy Pasta and Sausage

1 lb sausage, casings removed (I used hot sausage because that's what we had)
4 cups dry penne rigate pasta
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
28 oz. can Italian tomatoes, chopped, drained
1 1/2 cups half & half
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
salt & pepper, to taste
fresh grated Parmesan cheese (sprinkled on top)

Directions
Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the garlic during the last minute. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the directions on the box. Drain the pasta and set aside.

Turn the heat down to medium-low and add the tomatoes, half & half, red pepper flakes, and salt & pepper to the skillet. Add the pasta and stir until thoroughly mixed and heated through.

Top with grated Parmesan cheese and serve.

Creamy Mexican Skillet

I've been meaning to share this recipe with some of my friends so I thought I would share it with all of you too! I don't have any pictures to share but I promise it is wonderful!

Creamy Mexican Skillet

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef

1/2 bell pepper, chopped

1/4 cup onion, chopped

1/2 t chili powder

1/2 t garlic powder

1/2 t salt

4 oz. cream cheese

1/2 cup sour cream

1 cup salsa

1/2- 1 lb pasta (I used whole wheat Rotini)

Directions:

Brow ground beef in a skillet with onion, bell pepper and seasonings. Drain grease. Stir in cream cheese, sour cream and salsa. Stir until cream cheese is melted. Add cooked pasta to skillet and stir to coat.
