At Frost* something we love doing is going out to see and review projects as they are coming to life on site. One of our most recent projects, Qantas Hangar 245 at Sydney international Airport was no exception.

Hanger 245 houses one of Qantas’s Boeing 747 aircrafts. The hanger is highly visible from the Terminal lounges and parts of Qantas Boulevard, making it an exciting site to work with.

We eagerly took the opportunity to roll out a new Qantas look and feel and apply this to the doors of the hanger.

Our response conceptually is both prominent and playful. The idea of the hangar doors opening and closing with the famous kangaroo animating was captivating. Being on the tarmac that close to the runway was an amazing experience!  Watch it come to life!

ROLE

- Is a core part of the project management team and is responsible for liaison with clients at most levels to ensure clear communication, timely responses and effective delivery on agreed client expectation.

-Responsible for the development of estimates and proposals (with the support of appropriate production and creative resources), timelines, project plans, contact reports, billing and invoicing.

- May also be involved in developing presentations, attending workshops and being a support to the account management team overall with new business.

- You will have experience and passion in the property and travel sector

- You will be a lateral thinker and have the ability to work under a fast paced environment

Cranes and hoardings up, the transformation is just beginning

UTS Business School came to Frost* to create a leadership piece that embodies their repositioning based around integrative thinking and creating the next generation of leaders. Our solution came from the heart of their process, which is founded in design thinking. Post it notes integral to their u.lab brainstorming sessions were used to create a hand-crafted typeface and design language. The structure takes an editorial approach, allowing them to communicate on many different levels, and to highlight alumni who are navigating some of Australia’s most influential organisations, as well as well as heroing the School’s Dr Chau Chak Wing Building by Frank Gehry (which we are also designing signage for).

At Frost* we believe in the power of creativity and design thinking in producing success for our clients. So in 2012 we have adopted the statement “Inspiring ideas to life” to embody what motivates us and focuses our team on the unique potential of each and every project. To show our commitment we decided to put the writing on the wall – literally – and to film our studio taking a blank wall and bringing it to life through our collective skills, enthusiasm and creativity.

Super stoked to have been invited to sit on the first year students design panel for the UTS DAB Interior and Spatial program. The nerd in me got even more excited when I was told the brief was to hand render a map of the city but using only a 6H lead pencil, erasing not permitted.

It’s only week 5 and the students are guns a blaze! I was incredibly impressed with the level of thinking and execution.

Reminded me of how great it is get back to basics and the importance of curating content, what about it you are trying to communicate and how it is visualised.

I figured it was only fair that I give this a go. Here are the very beginnings of my map.

Maggie, our Senior Designer in Environments is a multi-disciplinary designer with over seven years experience in branding and environments design.

Prior to joining the team she has worked for the likes of Moon Communications Group and Deuce Design with clients such as Australian Chamber Orchestra, Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, Westfield, Big W, SHFA and The University of Sydney.

Melbourne designer Luke Brown has scooped the Visual Design and Communications award in the 2012 Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards.

Brown’s work includes art direction, graphic design and custom typography and he has worked for clients in Australia and internationally across the music, fashion and hospitality industries.

As well as taking the title, luke scores $5,000, a 12-month mentorship with Vince and a trip to the 2012 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Luke said it was a surprise and an honour to win.
“Being able to attend the Cannes Lions Festival will be an awe-inspiring experience, not to mention the mentorship with Vince Frost,” he said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
