How-To Question: indoor gardening

Hello all,
Hope everyone’s doing good. I am here to get some design ideas for my condo. The construction work of the condo is complete, now it's the design part. I found the condo from condos for sale in North York. The builder has lots of design ideas, good ones. But my doesn’t seem to like them. So, she is thinking to design herself. She wants a vegetable garden in the condo which she is thinking to grow in the balcony. I don’t know if this seems weird. Also, she is thinking of having some indoor plants in the bedroom and bathroom. Since we have an open kitchen, she is thinking to have a vertical garden in the kitchen. Do you this will look good? Are there any other good indoor design ideas? Please let me know your suggestions...
How-To Question: Buying patio furniture for garden

I own a football turf in Brantford which is doing well and making $$$. Last week, we changed the synthetic grass but there were leftovers, in fact, quite a large amount that we decided to move some for our backyard.

Maintenance is hard but it looks pretty. Been thinking about buying patio sofa sets with a darker tone from a
furniture store nearby. There's no better feeling than chilling outside. Does anyone follow the same setup?

How-To Question: Garden waste

Hi all, I am a gardener. I have been doing gardening for past few years. I am focusing on vegetable gardening. Since it is farming, they produce a large amount of organic waste in the garden. Sometimes we might use it for producing organic manure. I am planning to expand my garden. So I cleared some more area near the garden. I cut down some plants and a tree. I want to get rid of the garden waste and these cut parts of the tree and plants. I am searching for garbage disposal services in Toronto that could collect the organic wastes from the yard. I also have some unused gardening equipment which I am trying to get rid off. I want these also to be disposed of along with them. Is it really possible to dispose of organic waste via disposal service? Is there any other method you could suggest?

How-To Question: Rats damaging my garden

Hi everyone, I have a vegetable garden at my home. I designed it last year. I planted various vegetable saplings and seeds and upon God’s grace, they flourished well. Now I have vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots along with some fruits. But today I face issues with browsing animals. Rats enter my garden and are eating most of the vegetables and fruits. I have tried different methods to prevent them from accessing the yard. I used to remove the fallen vegetables regularly and reduce their attraction into the yard. I have used some sprays to distract them. But they enter again into the yard after the effect of the spray diminishes. But I don’t know if it is harmful to use this kind of spray in the yard. Does it affect the plants and the vegetables? Anyway, I am fed up with these rats. I have decided to seek help from one of the humane wildlife control in Newmarket. Does it require expert wildlife removal services for removing these animals from the yard?

How-To Answer: Planning to build raised garden beds, need advice.

I have done raised beds for 5 years using the square Foot gardening and companion gardening to plan out my beds. The only drawbacks I could find were the limited ability to turn over the beds at the beginning of the planting season. That might have just been me. The other is to make sure you make the beds and the plants accessible from all sides. My beds are 6ft long x 4ft wide. With the square Foot plans I had limited weeds. With the manageable size bed I was able to harvest and weed though out the season with little problems. By adding the companion gardening I was able to ge a great yell in a small space.

How-To Answer: Permaculture

We havre such a system now where many people work while others are unable or just do not. We ask do we stop working then? We must all do our part to keep our country and world strong. Mainly for who we are. There will always be producers and consumers in this world, but hopefully good deeds do not go unnoticed nor unrewarded. Be proud in yourself of what you are able to do or make for your family and others that may not be as fourtionate.

How-To Answer: Permaculture

Is it worth maintaining a system that does not bring anything good? A system based in competition that destroy the possibilities of social cooperation for the common welfare, stopping any attempt of sustainability?

What is the actual social conscience? To live for others who would not die for you; earn money and then nobody else would lend you a single cent; love people who do not know what love is.

We live in a planet in crisis; very often, people feel incapable to realize the change. Permaculture offers positive solutions to world problems, using ecology as a base to study, design, and create systems that last, that are functional, sustainable, and integrated that sustain human establishments and natural ecosystems. Permaculture covers the production of food, housing, technology, communitarian development, legal systems, and financial ones to develop these objectives.

Taking care of the earth and people, sharing the resources, distribution of leftover time, capacities, and energy, are the ethic base of Permaculture.

The key is cooperation, not competition.

How-To Answer: Tough corn

Yeah you can toughen up and eat it! OK, throw it out and make sure you harvest earlier next year. Also, try steaming it or boiling it and if you have a blender such as a Vita-Mix you can grind it up and make a corn soup. Some people like corn mixed with their mashed potatoes. In fact, I do and if the corn is slightly tough it's ok.
And of course, if you live on a farm you already know chickens and pigs love it. Swap it to your neighbor for some delicious tomatoes. We put the whole ear with husk in the micro-wave for about 2 minutes and this may help soften the kernel. Watch out it's HOT.
