My first couple of months

I can't believe we are in November already! I started my Advice Worker Part-Time role with The GIO Project in August. I am really enjoying learning and working with voluntary organisations and charities. I have attended most of the training that The GIO Project have delivered over the past couple of months, including: Business Planning Training, Marketing Training, Wordpress Training and more. I am looking forward to the new year with new training dates, a new office (we move in December) and meeting lots of new people.

Connecting Communities is a new and intensive programme of activity in some of the wards and neighbourhoods suffering most from the effects of the economic downturn and from low levels of civic engagement. As part of the initiative, 130 areas of the country have been identified as the focus of a targeted programme of work that will focus on alleviating those pressures and making sure that real help is available.

Love Your Inner Lesbian – new campaign to raise awareness of lesbian health

Love Your Inner Lesbian - new campaign to raise awareness of lesbian health

Stonewall has launched a poster campaign, funded by the Department of Health, to encourage lesbian and bisexual women to take better care of themselves. Love Your Inner Lesbian is the slogan which accompanies the campaign, aimed at surgeries and healthcare centres. The campaign is in response to Stonewall research with over 6,000 lesbian and bisexual women, released last year, which found deeply disturbing levels of self-harm, substance abuse and exclusion from routine testing for cervical cancer.
