Boyfrndz announce new EP, premiere first track via PrefixMag

Austin trio Boyfrndz announce their forthcoming new EP today and premiere the first song via PrefixMag.com. The Natures EP was co-produced by the band and keyboardist Ikey Owens (Jack White, Mars Volta), who also once again lends his skills on organ for a few tracks. Listen to/download "Water Weight" HERE. Natures is a dark and powerful culmination of the band's uniquely soaring sound that traverses everything from Drive Like Jehu's wiry guitars, Sigur Ros' ethereal beauty, early Jane's Addiction's outer-space hard rock and myriad others.

Boyfrndz also premiered two songs from their recent sophomore album via Pitchfork and Consequence of Sound last fall. The tracks, "Surf's Up" (listen here) and "Hear Say" (stream here) are from the band's All Day Pass full length.

Boyfrndz began in 2010, shortly after the collapse of We The Granada, a band in which guitarist/vocalist Scott Martin and bassist/vocalist Joseph Raines had cut their teeth. Martin's roommate and sought-after drummer/vocalist Aaron Perez (at the time already playing in three other bands) signed on and Boyfrndz quickly became a priority. The lineup expanded to a four piece with guitarist Kelvin Baron for their self-titled full length debut in 2011. The group enlisted Grammy award winning keyboardist Ikey Owens to co-produce and he also played keys on a couple of tracks. Boyfrndz pared down to a three piece following a summer tour in 2011 and soon thereafter recorded their expansive 2012 album, All Day Pass (Spora Records/Boyfrndz Records).

Natures was engineered and mixed by Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recorders in Austin, with Grammy-nominee Dan Millice mastering at Engine Room Audio in NYC (A$AP Rocky, Hella's Tripper, et al).

Natures will be available July 16th via Boyfrndz Records.

Canadian power-duo Indian Handcrafts premiere a new video today via Vice's Noisey.com. The clip is for "Bruce Lee" culled from their recent Sargent House debut album Civil Disobedience For Losers. Watch/share video HERE. Noisey feature HERE.

Indian Handcrafts also announce new live dates playing the Scion Rock Fest in Memphis,TN on June 1st and Montreal Metal Fest on August 11th. The pair spent much of the past couple of months playing arenas supporting a wide range of artists.

Pitchfork previously premiered the ferocious song "Terminal Horse", available to download/stream HERE (alternate Soundcloud link HERE). And, the song "Bruce Lee" is available HERE via SPIN (alternate Soundcloud link HERE).

The Toronto band's sophomore release, Civil Disobedience For Losers was recorded in Los Angeles with engineer Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business) and features special guest appearances by Melvins drummers Dale Crover and Coady Willis.

Everything about Canadian power-duo Indian Handcrafts seems to defy possibilities: a two piece that's louder than a hundred bands, kicking out one of the year's most riff-rollicking albums that was recorded while the guitarist had a broken hand! They're two friendly, soft-spoken Canadian guys sounding like the Funkadelic Mothership crash landing on top of the Planet Caravan in Interstellar Overdrive.

L.A.'s sinful synth-pop band Night Club share the first track from their forthcoming sophomore release Love Casualty today. The song, "Poisonous" is available to stream/download HERE.

Night Club recently premiered a racy new video via Buzzbands.LA. The clip for the song "Control" is available to watch/share HERE.

Night Club is the brainchild of DJ/Producer Mark Brooks, former guitarist for notorious 90s noise rockers Warlock Pinchers and current director of TV's "Metalocalypse" as well as videos for Slayer, Melvins, Danzig and more. The band is vocalist Emily Kavanaugh's first foray into performing, following in the footsteps of her father, keyboardist for legendary New Jersey band Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

Mylets video goes viral, new clip posted and retrospective release out in June

Mylets, the one-man-band of Henry Kohen, recently released the first of his three part live performance videos for the Sargent House Glassroom Sessions series, of which "Ampersand" quickly went viral, racking up over 65-thousand views by word of mouth. The video depicting Kohen's unique skills performing the song is available to watch HERE.

Today, Mylets post a new clip from the session: "Seven Diamonds Plus One" watch video HERE. The studio version of the song will be available on the forthcoming collection of songs remixed and remastered from three previous EPs. Retcon marks Mylets' debut release on Sargent House and serves as a precursor to the full length debut currently in the works and planned for release early next year.

Mylets play for the first time overseas at the Indiependence Festival in Cork, Ireland on August 2nd on the Sargent House stage along with Bosnian Rainbows, And So I Watch You From Afar, Chelsea Wolfe, TTNG, and No Spill Blood.

The vinyl edition of Retcon features 10-songs and includes a full download with three bonus tracks featuring the audio from his live Sargent House Glassroom Sessions. Eureka the Butcher, solo pseudonym of Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez (also of Zechs Marquise and The Mars Volta) announces the forthcoming release of his debut album. The recording, Music For Mothers is dedicated to the multi-instrumentalist's mother Frances Sarah Rodriguez-Lopez who passed away last year.

Regarding the album, Marcel writes:

"This record is for my mom because she is the reason why I started playing the piano. She told me that it was great that I wanted to play drums, but if I played the piano, I could create music and play to a room full of people by myself. I didn't start playing drums for another 4 years, and I wouldn't start playing piano for another 7 or so. That's when i started making electronic music. Making music under the Eureka name gives me that ability: to make music and perform by myself. I, however, do not perform alone. Sadah Luna performs with me because of my love for her dance and her love for my music. She completes the live show.

"This record was made all over the world while on tour with The Mars Volta and Zechs Marquise, and at home when I was on break. I worked on it in buses, vans, planes, dressing rooms, airports, hotel rooms, backyards, sidewalks, just about everywhere. Music for Mothers is a testament to how much waiting around you do while on the road. It was a very rough time for my family and I, and this record was my therapy. My mom is my biggest fan and she gave me the drive, confidence, and clarity to start and finish this album.

"I didn't want it to be completely selfish and personal though. I want this music to be for all mothers...for all families. I hope that it will inspire other people to make music for their mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. I was given the strength to push through and finish these songs, and I hope these songs give other people the drive to do the same. The drive to gain more knowledge and improve. If my family had not been there to motivate me, if my mom hadn't pushed me to learn other aspects of music, I would be sampling records and it wouldn't be as rewarding to me. Sampling records properly is an art form in itself, but i knew it wasn't for me. Instead, I learned to play a handful of instruments and because of that my music is all original and has a specific sound. This record is the sound of our household, the sound of our family."

Eureka the Butcher is a slayer of sound, chopping unique rhythms inspired by the Los Angeles Beat scene, joining some of the most influential beat musicians and incorporating electronic elements into the instrumentals he has always mastered.

Marcel was constantly surrounded by musical creativity as part of the Rodriguez-Lopez family of musicians and was invited by his brother Omar to join The Mars Volta on tour in 2003. He became a constant member of the band, contributing on keys and percussion to Volta as well as the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group. Marcel is also a founding member of Zechs Marquise, starting out on keys and percussion and later switching to drums.

In an interview with Fusion Magazine, Marcel explained that his name "comes from the nature of editing; the Butcher part from cutting up sound, chopping up beats to make up new things; the Eureka part comes from when it all comes together."

UK producer Sorrow announces album debut with free title track download (feat. CoMa)

British producer Sorrow announces his forthcoming debut album via esteemed London label Monotreme Records (65daysofstatic, Stumbleine.) The title track, "Dreamstone" features guest vocals by CoMa and is available to stream/download HERE.

Sorrow’s electronic, beats-driven music floats above the furthest reaches of ambient dubstep, propelled aloft by a dubbed out, sonorous garage hybrid of his own invention. A series of self-released tracks, remixes and EPs over the last two years, as well as collaborations with other artists (including Stumbleine, Asa and Submerse) have rapidly earned him a profile as one of the UK’s rising producers.

True to his moniker, Sorrow’s music has an underlying current of melancholy, with mournful strings and piano and ghostly vocals, but he balances the mood artfully with head-bobbing beats and a wonky sense of humour that emerges unexpectedly here and there.

Throughout the album, the lush strings and languid zig-zag beats of "Embrace" flow into the Bossa Nova lounge of "Maelys", which in turn yields to the darker, more experimental tones of "Supernova".

From the chilled out ambience of "Dalliance", featuring the sultry guest vocals of CoMa, to the restless, more aggressive beats of "Intruder", Dreamstone works equally well for late night sonic explorations or laid-back Sunday mornings.

Boris kick off US dates featuring residency tour performing Flood album & all-time classics

Legendary Japanese trio Boris launch the first of their single-night headlining dates surrounding their special series of US residency shows in several major markets today. The band also play Austin Psych Fest this Saturday, April 27th. The residency tour, billed as "from the past, the present and through to the future" features Boris playing 2 consecutive nights in each city. For the first night, the band will perform its all-time classics along with many new songs never before played in the US. The second night's set features most of Boris' cult classic album Flood along with a noise/drone/experimental set. The additional one-off dates will combine all-time classics with part of Flood and other songs' US debut. Throughout the tour, Boris will once again perform in their classic trio lineup without any support musicians. Please see updated current dates below.

Nearly all of the 2-show pass packages are already sold out in each market, but tickets for each individual night's performances are available while supplies last.

Iconoclast trio Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. Truly great art is that which can't be easily understood and dissected, but immediately resonates nonetheless. Tera Melos' new full length, X'ed Out is just that kind of adventure. The songs transcend in a way that makes you want to sit friends down to hear it, not only to share the experience, but perhaps in hopes that together you can create the world in which songs like this can be defined. It hits mental buttons and flicks internal switches that you never knew existed, while cleverly obscuring the technical precision for which the band has been known. It's remarkably multifaceted, incredibly catchy and perplexing to unravel exactly how it all works.

"It's like visiting a friend who lives on the 14th floor of a building with no elevator, yet he has a grand piano in his apartment," explains bassist Nathan Latona. "How did he get it there? LVMRKS premiere new song via Consequence of Sound, debut album out in May

Neil Busch, former vocalist/bassist/songwriter in ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead during that band's peak is back with a new band called LVMRKS and forthcoming debut album. The group also features bassist Jonathan Hischke (Broken Bells, Hella, Dot Hacker, et al.) and drummer Dave Clifford (Red Sparowes, The VSS) alongside Busch on vocals/guitar/keyboards.

LVMRKS share a new song from their debut today courtesy of Consequence of Sound. The track, "In Scars" is available to stream/share HERE.

The band also recently premiered the cupid-themed song, "Valentine" available to stream/download HERE.

The album, Pale Fairytale was recorded and mixed by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Tool, Big Business) and will be available on LP and download on May 21st, 2013.

Mylets, the nom-de-tune of teenage guitar prodigy Henry Kohen, announce the forthcoming release of a collection of songs remixed and remastered from three previous EPs. Retcon marks Mylets' debut release on Sargent House and serves as a precursor to the full length debut currently in the works and planned for release later this year.

The vinyl edition of Retcon features 10-songs and includes a full download with three bonus tracks featuring the audio from his live Sargent House Glassroom Sessions. Italian art pop duo Niagara release debut album, full stream available

Italian singer/producer duo Niagara release their debut album Otto in North America today, celebrating the event by streaming the entire 8-song set HERE.

Niagara also recently premiered the first video from the full length via Consequence of Sound. The charming, cleverly executed clip is for "Seal" the lead single from the album on Monotreme Records. Watch/share video HERE.

The digital single, "Seal" b/w "Kiss" (a cover of the song sung by Marilyn Monroe in the film "Niagara") is available today care of the Monotreme label's Soundcloud page. Download/stream the song HERE.

Niagara is the collaborative project of Turin-based singers/producers Davide Tomat (TOMAT / N.A.M.B.) and Gabriele Ottino (N.A.M.B. / Milena Lovesick), who like to take a less conventional approach to composition. Much of their music is developed by continuous experimentation with sounds during improvised sessions, in which vocals are often used as just another instrumental layer. However, they also have a great ear for a killer pop tune and the vocal chops to deliver it.

On Otto, Niagara blend together a heady mixture of experimental pop, electronica and psychedelia to create their own brand of 'avant-psych-tronica'.

The album title -- the Italian word for "eight" -- represents a number of things, from the Law of Octaves to the symbol of infinity when rotated 90 degrees. Otto will be available in North America on CD and download on March 26th, 2013 via Monotreme Records.

Belfast, Northern Ireland's And So I Watch You From Afar release their third album All Hail Bright Futures today worldwide via Sargent House. The entire album is available for streaming courtesy of Vice's Noisey.com and Soundcloud HERE.

ASIWYFA recently shared the boisterous "Big Thinks Do Remarkable" as well as the first single, "Like A Mouse" available for streaming HERE.

All Hail Bright Futures could be taken as both an ethos for the album and the band at this point in time. There is a new color scheme in place: new textures, emotions, sounds and voices. The 12-track, 43 minute album is dominated by a sunnier disposition, a positive uplift that more closely matches the euphoria the Northern Ireland trio has been instilling in audiences through their music in a live setting for the last five years.

There are moments of tropical guitar pop ("Rats On Rock"), percussive bleeping song foundations paired with infectious vocals ("The Stay Golden"), a trumpet arrangement ("Young Brave Minds"), an orchestral interlude ("Trails"), singalong mantras ("Big Thinks Do Remarkable"), harmonic hooks ("Like A Mouse"), a flute melody ("Mend And Make Safe") along with cutup vocals and handclaps ("Ka Ba Ta Bo Da Ka"). All of these new additions to the ASIWYFA sound are underpinned by their trademark guitar riffs that bliss the musical brain, complemented by the colossal and increasingly expressive rhythm section that comforts as much as it bludgeons.

ASIWYFA have toured extensively, already having logged over 500 shows worldwide. The band'sprevious album, Gangs earned them a second Choice Music Prize nomination for Irish Album of The Year 2012 and a win for Best Live Band. They recently signed to Sargent House for worldwide management and label (home to a diverse roster of artists, including Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Boris, Russian Circles, Chelsea Wolfe, Tera Melos, Deafheaven and more.) Sargent House releases All Hail Bright Futures in March 2013.

All Hail Bright Futures is ASIWYFA's first recording done as a three-piece. However, the band continues on as a four piece with their new full time member Niall Kennedy on guitar. The album was recorded with Rocky O' Reilly at Start Together Studio in Belfast. It is their boldest statement yet, an album bursting with a positive vigor, that states a renewed case for a magnetizing band at their best.

Austin anthemic indie-pop band The Laughing premiere first song from new album via Purevolume

Austin, TX anthemic indie-pop band The Laughing premiere today the first single from their forthcoming new album via Purevolume. The track, "Disappear" is culled from the quartet's sophomore full length, Oscillation, set for release this summer. Stream/download song HERE.

Oscillation: the flow between opposing points. Or in this case, Oscillation is the wild swings of emotional states, as heard in the equally boisterous and introspective sounds on the sophomore album by The Laughing. The Austin, TX band is the ever-evolving project led by singer/guitarist Logan Middleton. While the band's lineup has shifted along with its sound over the past few years, the core concept of The Laughing remains pop hooks dressed in colorful guitars, synths and noises with a heavy focus on beats and drums.

Each release -- from a few early EPs to 2009's full length Fever and the forthcoming Oscillation -- has existed within their own unique space, each one thematic in nature, cohesive enough to be considered a concept album, but without the overwrought narrative trappings. The latest album was recorded at Jim Eno's (drummer of Spoon) studio Public HiFi. Engineered by Brad Bell, the disc was produced and performed mostly by Middleton himself aside from live drums and bass.

Oscillation is rooted in melodic exploration of songcraft, reminiscent of artists like Future Islands, Foreign Born, The Walkmen, Echo & The Bunnymen, et al. The songs are ornamented with layered vocal harmonies, lush synthesizers, acoustic and digital percussion, and shoegaze adoring guitar parts. From the lilting charge of the upbeat charmer "Smile" to the shimmying lament of "Say Goodbye," the album fittingly moves through a range of emotions and universal themes.

"It's not exactly a break-up record," Middleton says, "but this is the first time I have written a sort of personal record dealing with the duality of right and wrong, moving forward and stepping back." While previous The Laughing releases were lyrically more abstract, Oscillation sees Middleton singing of more direct and relatable life experience. There is a theme of duality throughout the album, most clearly in the music itself as it deftly swings from major to minor keys, somber keyboards and stomping drums, blissed-out guitars and Middleton's signature simultaneously happy/sad sounding vocals.

Oscillation will be available summer 2013 on CD and download.

Zorch sign to Sargent House, premiere first new track via SPIN from forthcoming new album

Austin, TX hyper-kinetic duo Zorch premiere a new song today via SPIN.com culled from their forthcoming full length. The band also proudly announces signing to Sargent House for management and label, who will release Zorch's album this summer.

Zorch is a duo from Austin, TX. Composed of Zac Traeger (keyboards, omnichord, vocals) and Shmu (drums, omnichord, vocals), the two hail from Wisconsin and Canada respectively. The duo met in Boston and began recording dozens of improvisational mixtapes, which, after moving to Austin in 2009, would help lay the foundation for Zorch. Since that pivotal move, they've quickly made a home for themselves in the city's DIY scene, building a reputation on their intense, ebullient live shows and fan interaction.

Sacramento's genre-benders Tera Melos premiere another new song from their forthcoming new album, X'ed Out today via Vice's Noisey.com. The track, "Sunburn" is available to stream/share HERE.

Tera Melos also launch extensive North American tour dates with Sargent House label mates, Britain's This Town Needs Guns (now simply called TTNG) beginning in April. Tera Melos will be supporting X'ed Out, as will TTNG promote their new full length 13.0.0.0.0. Truly great art is that which can't be easily understood and dissected, but immediately resonates nonetheless. Tera Melos' new full length, X'ed Out is just that kind of adventure. The songs transcend in a way that makes you want to sit friends down to hear it, not only to share the experience, but perhaps in hopes that together you can create the world in which songs like this can be defined. It hits mental buttons and flicks internal switches that you never knew existed, while cleverly obscuring the technical precision for which the band has been known. It's remarkably multifaceted, incredibly catchy and perplexing to unravel exactly how it all works.

"It's like visiting a friend who lives on the 14th floor of a building with no elevator, yet he has a grand piano in his apartment," explains bassist Nathan Latona. "How did he get it there? Was it carried up 14 flights of stairs, assembled on site or what? This record is the piano in the apartment with no elevator. We wanted to do all of the tricky stuff in a way that doesn't seem noticeable."

X'ed Out is the culmination of an arc begun on Tera Melos' first proper full-length, Patagonian Rats (Sargent House, 2010) -- a supercollider of 60s pop hooks, Minutemen garage-prog, post-punk evisceration, wiry psychedelia and nearly everything else in-between. Here, the Sacramento based trio burns and simmers simultaneously while situated somewhere without benefit of location services. It's a nowhere land, X'ed Out of the grid, both inviting and daring.
