Danville Maternity Portraits // Michelle + Erick

Erick and Michelle are GLOWING these days. Look at them! We were supposed to shoot their session a week earlier, but storm clouds rolled into the San Francisco Bay Area and threatened our plans with wind and a chance of rain so we rescheduled to a week later and got THIS AMAZING WEATHER. It was the PERFECT evening for a shoot in Danville. I was a little worried to postpone an extra week, since it’s getting to be later in the pregnancy, but I was being silly because Michelle is ROCKING that belly like no other!! She is seriously gorgeous. In fact, she’s even been approached about pregnancy modeling!

Being someone who had children at a VERY young age, I envy these two. I loved being a mom to my babes, but I was just a baby myself, so I didn’t have much of a perspective to base parenting on. They can’t wait to welcome their baby girl into their lives and you can just tell they are going to be such great parents! Michelle and Erick, we feel blessed to have gotten to shoot such precious life moments with the two of you already. We hope there are many more to come! <3 Big hugs from both of us, and we are anxiously awaiting the chance to say the words: “Welcome Baby!”.

Venice Beach Portrait Session // California Portrait Photographer

When we were based out of Las Vegas, a mom of two girls called me and said she was new to town and looking for a photographer. One of her girls was having a birthday and had requested that for her birthday, she’d like a portrait session. We had a BLAST. We had all kinds of dress up props and those two little girls really loved being in front of my camera and this big girl really loved having the two little girls to in front of my camera. It REALLY stands out as one of my VERY favorite portrait sessions of my entire career. MAYBE even my very favorite.
Flash forward a few years later and Scott and I had an opening for a portrait session in San Diego and we posted about it. The same mom contacted me right away and said they’d be vacationing in Venice Beach, could we shoot there? I answered with an emphatic YES! So we did. This time a family session, and here’s a taste of what we got. Those girls are older and smarter but they STILL love the camera and the camera still loves them.

Napa Family Portrait and Newborn Photographer // Baby Destry // Urban Vision Studios

Scott and I have been primarily focusing on weddings since we moved back to California. When Scott joined me in this photography venture, he joined me so we could work together to create and nurture a wedding photography business in which we were able to pour our hearts into. Founded on our own desire for a strong marriage, we felt we would really be able to connect with couples just starting on the journey of their own marriage. When we started Weddings by Scott and Dana, Urban Vision Studios continued and while we were in Vegas, we managed both businesses with Urban Vision Studios being the busier of the two. We began traveling to Northern CA for Sacramento and Napa Weddings often, and our wedding business really took off in CA. Now that we have moved here, the weddings photography side of our business has been thriving. We love it! However, we love portraits too, and in order for our business model to be what we hope for, we need to get the portrait side of things going too. So a few weeks ago I was feeling a bit concerned and wondering how we were going to light a fire on Urban Vision Studios here in Northern CA. I was feeling a little discouraged… and then it hit me. DUH. Our brides and grooms are starting families. This is perfect… as we are strengthening our wedding legs, our past brides and grooms are making families and they will be our Urban Vision Studios clientele. It’s perfect. SO… with that wordy “more than you want to know about our business” portion of this post put out there, we’d like to tell you about our FIRST Northern CA past bride and groom newborn and family sessions.
If you follow our weddings blog, you may remember Rhea and Austin’s RAD engagement session or their GORGEOUS ’20s themed wedding from Fall of 2012. You may have even seen their maternity session at Point Reyes State Beach from just a few weeks ago. We’ve fallen in love with the two of them, and it’s SO fun to get to see them in the roles of mom and dad. We are so excited for them, and being that they were our first big Napa wedding, and now they are the first bride and groom from Northern CA that we got to shoot a newborn session with, they will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Here are some of our favorites of they PERFECT little guy Destry, (about two weeks old in these photos) and the three of them, all in love and in complete adoration with one another.

Senior Portraits in Lodi // Heather!

Horses are magical. When Heather’s mom called and asked if I could shoot her senior portraits in Lodi with her horse, Skippy, I was SO excited. I knew it would be fun. A girl and her horse, what more could you ask for? She said they lived on a large property and we could shoot at their home. When someone says you can shoot at their home, you never know what to expect. Are they choosing their home for convenience sake, or will it really be a good place to shoot? Well as you’ll see, in this case, it was the latter. SO so SO beautiful. Vineyards forever and some gorgeous oaks to add to the scene. You put an adorable high school senior and her horse in the mix and VOILA, what happens is you don’t want to stop shooting. Like ever. Especially because who knows if you’ll ever get to do something like that again!?
Heather is just as sweet as she is cute, too. She is headed out to start college in San Luis Obispo in the Fall. Her older sister will be transferring to join her in the adventure. She had a sparkle in her eye as she told me about it. Such an exciting time in a young woman’s life. I believe she will have quite a fun transition from her small town Lodi life to a college campus!

p.s. During this shoot I got to see the proof that the phrase “pee like a racehorse” means pee for a REALLY long time! (excuse the less than prudent visual!)

Maternity Portraits at Point Reyes Beach | Rhea + Austin

When Rhea told us that she and Austin would like to have their maternity portraits at Point Reyes Beach, I didn’t really know what to expect. I had never been there (which is weird because I lived less than an hour away from said beach for 23 years). I had heard it was a beautiful place, and trusted that it would be perfect, but I was anxious and excited to see. It totally exceeded any expectations I had, and now I can’t wait for Scott and I to go back there again to spend an afternoon relaxing and taking in the beautiful creation of this place.

Rhea and Austin love to hike at Point Reyes. It is a place that is sacred to them, and they have spent a lot of precious time there. Rhea spoke of returning to this spot many times when she needed to be refreshed and/or grounded. Even Bloom, their adorable Labra-doodle beamed with happiness from the moment we parked and throughout the entire time we were there. If you follow our wedding work, you may have seen these two on our blog for their super fun engagement session or their amazing wedding. We have grown to love these two as a couple and are grateful for any time we get to spend with them. We are lucky to also get to see them when we go for chiropractic treatment with them at Blossom Precision Chiropractic Napa Chiropractor.
Maternity is such an anticipatory time. Even more so, I think, with the first born child. Rhea and Austin have this beautiful aura about them. I’m not sure exactly how to explain it… but I think the best I can do is to say that they seem “open-hearted”. They are both open and vulnerable and fully embracing what’s about to happen to them. There is a welcoming peace and you can see it in their eyes- and feel it when you talk with them about their baby boy, Destry, coming.

Childrens Portraits in the Orchard | Stella+Ava

These childrens portraits in the orchard make me giddy. I have ~~wanted~~ been DYING to do a children’s portrait session in an orchard like this during blooming time for many years. Like at least 4. But Las Vegas doesn’t have anything like this, and until we moved our photography business to the Sacramento and Napa area, it was impossible to plan the trip at just the right time. The blooms only last 5 days or so (depending on the wind and rain) and usually people like to plan their sessions in advance (of course they do) and so it’s tough to get the session in!
You’ll see that I had the PERFECT little models to shoot with. These two girls warm my families’ hearts like toasted marshmallows. They are cousins, just two months apart and are the best friends. Some of my BEST childhood memories involve my own cousins. Cousins are far more fun than siblings, and have a fun connection that makes them better than friends. It’s a relationship like no other.
I asked Ava and Stella what they liked about each other and here’s what they had to say.

Stella: “I like coloring with Ava and playing with her. And Running. I like her.”
Ava: “I like Stella because she is funny and goofy.”

It was magical in the orchard, even for me. It really did feel like a wonderland of sorts. The petals fall like snow, and create this ethereal mood. I know I’m easily impressed by nature (especially trees) but this was over the top for me. It brings tears to my eyes as I think about our little lemonade in the orchard photo shoot- and I hope that it somehow helps them look back and remember the way their friendship felt when they were little together. (and I hope they forget that they didn’t really like the lemonade. ; )

THIS gorgeous family joined us at Mt Charleston for a green Summer shoot. We love this family so much. In fact, we are excited that Weddings by Scott and Dana, our wedding photography business, will be photographing this Mama and daddy’s WEDDING celebration in CABO in just a few months. To say we are excited would be the understatement of the year!

Mt Charleston- I can never get over how much cooler it is up there, nor how beautiful it is. If we could all have a little more Mt Charleston in our lives, the world might be a better place. I also love the color scheme this mama put together…. it looks so great with the summer green trees. I could have posted 10 more of these— I loved so many, but here are the very favorites:

Craig ~ Class of 2014 | Las Vegas Senior Portraits | urban vision studios

Craig is SUPER sweet. Really. He gave me a hug at the end of the session and told me I was awesome. That was so nice. Especially because most of the time, while photographing senior guys, I feel like an old lady that they probably can’t really relate to. So, Craig, thanks for that.
I photographed Craig’s beautiful sister 4 years ago (after our session, Craig’s mom figured out that it was 4 years almost to the DAY- we missed it by one day). When Craig’s mom called me about his shoot, I was excited to see their family. I couldn’t believe how much Craig had grown up. I only vaguely remembered him from meeting him in their home, but in 8th grade he did look quite a bit different than he does now!! Now he’s headed off to play college football (and do some learning too, of course!) and he really has a lot going for him. His mama and siblings are so proud of him- and rightfully so. Here are the favorites.

I can’t get enough of these guys. Their little faces…. so dang cute. They could be little H&M models. Seriously. The whole family, actually. You’ll see. Urban sessions are my favorite. At least right this minute they are- because I love how this came out. All 3 of these little cuties are really well behaved too. Spoiled parents ; )
