Hey everyone,

Long time no write…we know…sorry. The good news is that we finally are moved into our new house and no longer have to worry about a landlord telling us not to install something. The bad news is that in order to do so, we had to take down the aeroponics system.

There were a few concerns we had with the system prior to taking it down anyways. First of all, we were noticing that the aeroponics system  was working inefficiently. We were seeing little plant stem growth as a result of not having a proper light source for the plant. We also began to notice that if we forgot to put water in the 5 gallon bucket that less fog was produced since the floggers would sit on the bottom of the bucket at a non optimal depth to produce fog. The most concerning inefficiency is how quickly the foggers seemed to move through their apparently tiny design lives.  By the time that we took the foggers down, a few days ago, the ultrasonic plate had turned in color from brassy to grayish black. Sorry we dont have pictures, but it appeared that there was either mineral build up from the water or that the plate itself had oxidized in the water. Both instances produce too little fog for the plant to remain turgid.

The build up produced really inefficient fogging. We are unsure if this is due to the fact that we purchased literally the cheapest fogger on the market and happened to run the poor little things into the ground or foggers are not an effective means of producing this kind of fog. We might attempt the same experiment with significantly larger foggers to see if this is the case. The other option we could go with, if the larger foggers fail, is a spray nozzle type sytem.

We are also thinking of rejiggering the current system to make it more efficient. We would also like to be able to have more than one type of plant nutrients. For instance a nutrient system for plants that are currently producing fruit and a separate nutrient system for plants that are not yet producing fruit.  We shall see.
