The Doggy Position

Seeking for answers, one night I struck a conversation with the guards about the position of the university and what they are doing to contain the problem of the dogs. And this is my report. When I first arrived at our university – I saw dogs, and I thought; “Oh I see, the guards and the university staff keeps dogs as pets on campus and that’s normal”.

This was reinforced by people’s attitudes because everyone else didn’t give much thought to the dogs. But, why do I see dozens running around campus, the halls, and the Sir Colin Campbell patio tables for leftover food after midnight?

These dogs are in truth, wild, because to own one you would need a license. Secondly, I don’t see any frantic owner calling their dogs back home. The dogs have been here since the beginning of UNMC as far as the guards can remember. They would usually enter through the fence even though it has been reinforced and height-adjusted; they will still find ways such as through open sewages.

Currently, the numbers of wild dogs could not be estimated – but during mating season the smell would be noticeable – especially when the female is present.

I asked if any action have been taken against the dogs, and yes, shooting was the answer. But to do so it had to be done on open spaces. The deceased dogs are then replaced by newborns. The guards don’t know where they all come from, but they theorize that the owners were Indians from some near settlement. Numerous shootings have occurred for a long time, but there was no visible difference and has long been discontinued. The wild dogs are shot outside in the open fields away from UNMC, to minimize the risk of injuring someone on campus, of course.

Has these dogs bitten anyone? Yes. These are not rabid dogs, however there were such cases where a man started running from a pack of dogs and dogs being funny animals, started running with him. The secret is – do not start running away from them. But the limitation is the students – apparently some of them didn’t allow these to happen. However, the question arises – the wellbeing of the students and the halls plus the university’s image or animals rights?

Furthermore, some actually feed the dog and this is not advisable. They would also scavenge for leftover food in the rubbish bins placed outside on-campus doors or the leftovers at Colin Building, becoming mini canteens for these wild dogs. Its fine that bin is placed outside of our rooms – just the food we dump in them isn’t. Some solutions include making the fence smaller – to no effect since the problem originated outside. Shooing them away is just a short-term solution.

Halls have also been secured with doors on each wing covered in wire and the posted signs remind people to keep the hall doors shut at all times. Due to the diversity of the student population, even the SPCA was discouraged to take action including catching due to some of their “concern’s on animals’ rights”.

The ‘main’ entrance for these dogs would be behind the sports complex near the nursery and the place where they live, according to the guards, is underneath the library and behind the Yellow building.

An OPINION to solve the problems was this: Make some poisoned Ramli burgers and drop it off where the dogs would hang out.

I thought to myself “Perhaps we could do this without telling the students” (this was my opinion).

If you feel there is anything important to report, please contact the Security Officer. But I believe that ultimately, it is the Management’s decision on how best to solve this problem, in whichever way will work best.

TnG once cheated me of some RM20 for one journey! Since then I don't use TnG anymore. Don't worry, the TnG implementations of the other transits are safe to use.

It is always amusing, seeing those big, beefy, muscular men, trying to squeeze into one seat.

Especially when it's raining. Plus with the uneven condition of the tracks, the water will flow here and there and everywhere.

My definition of being uncivilised is the inability to think for others.

However grumpy I may be, I can't do without it. Oh well.

Nine months ago, I checked in to TTS5/2 (AKA Edusquare). I got a nice corner room upstairs, which is a bit hot in the evening (when the sun shone in directly through the windows), but it has a nice view at any time of the day. The roof downstairs extended just directly below my window, and I immediately dreamt of crawling out of the window, lying there on the roof at night, staring at the stars. I would soon realise the stupidity of this idea - the guardhouse was just barely 6 metres away, and I hate to think what they would do if they see me climbing through my window in the middle of the night.

The room seemed perfect to me and I found myself loving the place more than I expected. Maybe because it marks the turning point of my life - entering university. Maybe because I enjoyed the company of 13 housemates who are so different from my KTAR ones. Or maybe it's just because I spent 6 days a week there for the past year.

I take the stairs so oftenly I couldn't even count the number of times I use it in a day. I even noticed that there are an odd number of stairs (19, I think), so I always step on the bottom most one before taking them two at the time, so my final step would land on the top floor.

Soon, the place became more homely than I could ever call my house in Klang.

For the past 9 months, I did many things in my little room. I clogged up my toilet boil. Not once, but twice.

That little room was where I did the three things I never thought I'd do.

I even witnessed the walls surrounding the house grow by more than a foot some time ago.

The conference table where the few of us sat and discussed serious matters, like why Char Siew Pau cried in the movies but Man Tou didn't.

Time passed by, and things must change. Some noticeable changes of the house include the amount of notices that accumulated over the months.

Light bulbs popped. By the time I finished my second exam, all but three light bulbs of the common area upstairs were broken.

Of the many ornaments we already had (our house was used as a showhouse before we shifted in), we still managed to get one more.

The Chinese Calligraphy writing in the living room, written by me some two or three months ago. Missed focus here (got the couch instead!), but I still thought this picture looked a bit modernistic.

I wrote the four words for my dreaded subject Malaysian Studies some two or three months ago as part of a group assignment. It isn't my best work, but it definitely is one of my favourites because of the unforgettable experience of producing it.

As time went by, my room got messier.

But other than these things, many others stay the same.

We took care of the house well. Our place was simply one of the cleanest (male) houses in Edusquare.

How bad can the other houses be? Well, let's just say my friends are surprised we still have both of our TV sets - theirs were stolen long time ago. We don't use the TV though. Reception was poor, and I tried to hook it up to my laptop with no success.

Anyhow, sooner or later, we'll have to go. The truth of having to leave never really set in until the accommodation office called me last Friday to arrange for a checkout appointment.

Suddenly I realised that I had to say goodbye to my room. Suddenly I realised that the house would be nothing but memory to me in a few days' time. Suddenly I realised how much I've bonded with my room.

Being the type of guy who doesn't get touched by movies, I didn't expect myself to gave in to my emotions so easily. I took my time packing up my things on Monday, hoping to delay my goodbyes.

There was the colourful curtains, which served so well as the backdrop of so many of my photos, the most notable one being my Facebook profile picture.

That night, I brushed my teeth and was off to bed for my last night in Edusquare. After switching off the lights, I noticed the cloudless night sky outside, filled with twinkling stars.

I toughened myself up and crawled out of the window. It felt smaller than I anticipated. I laid my feet on the cold porcelain roof tiles, made sure they're strong enough to support my weight, and lied down.

It wasn't as good as I imagined.

The streetlights were too bright, and I couldn't see the stars as clearly as I hoped. The roof tiles were hard and uncomfortable. The occasional appearances of traffic were noisy and annoying.

Few minutes later I crawled back in and went to bed.

The next day, I had everything packed away and looked around my room.

That's everything I had in my old room.

The room was irrecognisable. Blank, still, quiet and cold.

And it looked exactly the same when I checked in 9 months ago. Everything was gone. Evaporated. The soul. The liveliness. Everything. It's like your best friend had an amnesia or something.

Nevertheless, when I carried the last of my bags out of my room, I couldn't help but stole one last look of my room.

I'm not going to forget this last peek of my room so soon. Coincidentally, this shot turns out to be my favourite among the pictures of my room. Ex-room.

I heaved a heavy sigh, and moved on. That last peek of my room I'm certainly not going to forget so soon.

Post Examination Trip

Went to Tenji for lunch the day after my final paper, which is last Thursday. It was my first visit there. I was quite excited because I haven't even been any Japanese food buffet before because I like Jap food. They had some promotion for lunch and supper so we paid like RM46 per person including tax.

Didn't get to take much photos there. apaprantly I heard that they disallow people photographing the food or something, Anyways, was too hungry and busy filling my stomach to be bothered to take much photos lol

Eli and I had to leave Tenji early as we had a 3pm bus to catch at KL Sentral to Genting. Met up with the rest who's taking the bus there as well and we were all late and had to change the bus tickets and took the 330pm bus instead.

It rained at Genting that day and thus it was chilly and foggy up there. We barely see anything on our cable ride to the top.

We met up with See Tho and Iu Tjun, who had checked into the hotel room for us already. Hafriz and See Tho missed other so much that they couldn't resist any longer and started gaying each other.

*Resisting the need to puke* Okay, moving on. After we left our bags and ahving enough with the gay couple, we set off to the shopping complex and just simply walk around and did nothing. Did play arcade for a while though, which I haven't for a very long time.

At night, we did what we intended to do during this trip: drinking. It was kinda like a belated birthday celebration for Jieqiang and I. Special thanks to Hafriz for buying all those drinks =) Hafriz and Andrew are the only ones who got drunk. I wanted get drunk for the first time in my life and I got sick instead =.= Eli and I had Burger King for dinner an hour before the drinking session thanks to Tenji during the afternoon. I think it was the indigestion that made me sick. Shucks man =.=

A Game of Dodgeball in Notingham

After her final paper on the 21st of May, Carol suggested that we have a game of dodge ball after all the Mechanical Engineering students are done with their final paper on the 27th. It did happened and many turned up for the game despite a missing few.

We played at the badminton court. Carol and Pei Yi borrowed the balls from Bryan Lee and set up the court before everyone arrives. Didn't use the proper dodgeballs but used plastic balls wrapped in tapes instead to make it heavier. LOL

We randomly chose sides of between four to six a side and we all took turns. There were no clear objectives but it was played just for the sake of whooping another person's ass.

Looked like I'm doing jumping smash lol Kudos to whoever who took this shot =)

This was the match where only Julius, Brian and Zad going against five opponents. Someone suggested this challenge because the three of them were good at it. Julius was once left oneman standing and won against the opposing team with four more members left!! Many tried against the three and the three won all of them O.O"" Super gay...

I noticed that shot with me inside were better than the shots I've taken =.= He/she managed to capture some nice actions around while I didn't. I suspect it was Carol who tooked the shot but if I'm wrong, please let me know =) Seriously, I think my photography skills are deteriorating lately although it's not like it was good to begin with. Must use my remaining holiday to learn photography properly.

It was a fun activity to do. I was very emo after my final paper hours prior to the game and needed something like this to release my stress. Again, I did't have the mood to hold on long on my camera and I just wanted to play and hence the lack of pictures.

I wonder if we can have another dodgeball game again. Even if we try making one,, I doubt that many people will turn up. Graduating is sad =(

Top Malaysian Film Stars in one of the World's Top Leading University, UNMC

It has been 5 days since the film crew camping in our campus. I've interviewed some of the actors and actresses whom are Raja Farah, Lisa Surihani and Zoey . According to them, this film was stammed from a famous novel entitled 'Lagenda Budak Setan' by one of the popular Malaysian novelist, Ahadiat Akasyah.

The film was shot in the Nottingham University for about 6 days until this Saturday. I've been informed that after the crew finished their shooting here, the crew will continue their filming at the next location which is the legendary island in northern part of peninsular Malaysia, Langkawi Island for another two weeks.

So guys, lets wait patiently for the movie to be finished filming before it is on the screen of the cinema. And don’t forget to watch it in the nearest cinema early next year.

its fun when you can hang out like this, but what if your laughter disturbs others?

When you go to the SA to study and you end up listening to the sound of clashing pool balls, laughter, screams and high pitched shrieks, you tend to give up on your studies. By doing so, you decide to go online for just a few minutes when your gut tells you that you need to be more focused on your studies. You stood up, dragged that lousy ass of yours and walk that seriously long pathway to the library.

Upon arrival at the library you are greeted with loud whisperings, those whispers seemed to be as if they were discussing world matters with each other, then you start pondering, why are whispers so loud that it can be categorized as talking out aloud. And the moment you put that heavy ass of yours, you hear another controlled laughter, as if it can’t be heard throughout the whole room. You turned your head and saw no one laughing, maybe it was just you, your mind is playing tricks on you, only now you regretted sleeping late last night just to cover that stupid chapter about noise filtering.

With the perfectly air-conditioned room already starting to make an impact on your body, you start to sneeze and your hands are cold and you are shivering. You start wondering, why the heck is the library this cold, you then look around and everyone seems to be quite warm, maybe it was the skirt that you wore, or maybe that jacket was a bit too thin. You head out to the foyer and looked at your watched and realize that the library’s going to close in 10minits. You quickly pack your bags and went back to SA only to again, receive the same amount of noise you received hours ago.

Knowing all efforts to study in the SA will succumb to a failure, you begin heading to your room thinking about those chapters which might be of importance and of those which you have not covered. And while walking you bumped into a friend who knocks you off you focus (day dream). Started talking and walking and soon enough you arrive in front of your door. All the effort for the day earned you a well deserved nap.

BOOM!!! You could hear some war movie being played and from the sound of it, it’s titanic (2) being sunk. That alone made you wake up, getting cranky upon being forced to get up, you rush to the bathroom for a taste of hot water to freshen up the body and came up squeaky clean and fully refreshed. An after dressing up, you decide to start studying for the paper, two days from now.

Then, BOOM another bomb hits the floor, this time; maybe Kate Hudson was molesting Leonardo De Caprio or something. And you go “SHUT THE F**K UP!!!!!!” and so came a nervous breakdown. The exam stress can do a lot of things to you, especially if you’re a scholarship student, having had to score at least a 60% just to maintain that scholarship, you tend to bury your face in the book whenever there is time (during the exam period).

I wish you all good luck for the exams and I seriously hope you guys will strive to the maximum in the effort to get good grades. Remember to have fun too, but not to the point that it will effect or offend others especially during this exam period.
Final words from me, I’ll soon be leaving this university due to the fact that I’m almost graduating, and to all of you who knows me personally, I would like to say thanks for the good times together and for you support (if you ever gave any) for me in upholding my life in this university. I will greatly miss you guys and hope to always be able to help out in this blog.

Swine Flu Information

What is swine flu?
Swine flu is a group of influenza viruses that causes flu in pigs. Usually infections in humans are uncommon.
The current swine flu which is infecting people is a new strain of influenza A/H1N1. It is not certain how it developed. Its genetic makeup shows parts of human flu, avian (bird) flu and swine flu.

What are the symptoms?
Limited information is available at this stage. It appears that the early symptoms are similar to seasonal flu - cough, fever, sore throat, headache, runny nose, general fatigue and muscle pains. Vomiting and diarrhea have also been noted. Severe cases have progressed quickly (within 5 days) to pneumonia-like illness (shortness of breath and difficulty breathing).

Is this swine flu a severe illness?
It appears that the virus is capable of causing severe disease. However it is currently unknown how likely it is that those who get sick will suffer a severe illness.
Most cases in the United States and Canada to date have been mild. There have been no fatalities.
In Mexico there have been fatal cases, apparently in previously healthy young adults. The proportion of severe cases appears to be much higher than with regular seasonal flu.
Why the disease appears to be more severe in Mexico is unknown.

How is this swine flu spreading?
It is most likely spreading from person to person through infectious respiratory droplets (droplets generated when a person coughs, sneezes or talks.)

How can I prevent getting sick?
Observe good hygiene. Avoid people who are obviously sick. Be sure to wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your face, and if you do, be sure your hands are clean.
What is the infectious period?
The infectious period for this strain is not yet known. According to the US CDC, infected people should be considered potentially contagious:
• one day before their symptoms start
• seven days after their symptoms start OR as long as they are still showing symptoms (whichever is longer)
Children, especially younger children, might potentially be contagious for longer periods.
What is the incubation period?
The incubation period is the time between exposure to the virus and people developing symptoms? The incubation period for this strain is not yet known.
With seasonal flu, people develop symptoms within about 4 days. However for this new strain of flu, the incubation period may be longer.
US CDC is currently advising people to monitor their health for 7 days after possible exposure.

Is there a vaccine?
There is no specific vaccine against this swine flu as yet. Regular seasonal flu vaccine is unlikely to provide protection against this strain. Nevertheless, those who have not had a seasonal flu vaccine should consider doing so.
As a general good health practice, people should make sure all their routine vaccinations are up-to-date. This includes pneumococcal vaccination for certain adults. This vaccine is usually recommended for all people over 65 years old and younger people with serious long-term health problems (heart disease, diabetes, alcoholism, COPD, emphysema, asthma, cancer treatment, HIV/AIDS).

Can swine flu be treated with antiviral medications?
Preliminary information indicates that the virus is sensitive to the newer antiviral medications oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza). It is resistant to the older medications amantadine and rimantidine.
All travelers (any destination)
People who have not had an annual flu vaccination should consider having one to prevent regular seasonal flu.
As a general good health practice, all travelers should:
• Maintain good personal hygiene. Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your face.
• Avoid people who are obviously sick.
• Cover coughs and sneezes with a mask or a tissue.
• Stay at home if you are unwell.
• Contact your health care provider if you or your children develop flu-like symptoms.
• Ensure their routine vaccinations are up-to-date. This includes pneumocococcal vaccination for certain adults: those over 65, people with serious long term health conditions and people whose immune systems are compromised due to transplants, cancer treatments, HIV/AIDS, etc.
If you are in an affected area, or have traveled to an affected area recently:
• Monitor your health
• If you develop symptoms, seek medical attention. Advise the healthcare facility that you have recently been in an area that has reported swine flu.
• Parents should take their young children with fever or influenza-like symptoms for prompt medical attention.

Day Trip at Melaka

Last Sunday, my uni friends organised a day trip to Melaka. I was more than happy to join because I've just submitted my FYP, the last coursework of the semester. It is a good way to celebrate the temporary independence before having to start studying for exams again.

Pei Yi and Jin Yu drove a total of nine of us to Melaka, setting off from the university compound at 9am sharp. It took about two hours to reach the town of Melaka. The first thing we did was to head straight for brunch. Our first food destination is the famous chicken rice ball.

The meal was good, find it a little overrated but people who visits Melaka will try this at least once. We then headed to Jonker street to walk around and shop for souvenirs.

Stopped by one of the famous cendol shop at Jonker streets. it is called The Musuem Cafe. I ate the Eight Precious Cendol(EPC).

The shop has some nice and classic atmosphere.

The weather was extremely hot that day. We decided to walk to the Dataran Pahlawan Megamall to chill and cool ourselves down. Some funny shit happened to me at the mall. While we were passing by the center court, there was some event going on the stage. They were trying to get some audience to dance at the stage for whatever the reason. So, the emcee came down asking everyone that came into his way. I was standing behind Brian until the emcee went up to him and asked him. Brian moved away to avoid him and all of the sudden he sets his sight on me while I was blurring (I was thinking of photo ideas). He pulled me up the stage by force =.=

He pulled three other dudes onto the stage and made us all dance to some shitty music they played. Till now, I am wondering why I didn't just run off while they were unaware cos I can't friggin dance at all =.= still I went on first, did some stupid moves just to be sporting. The next two dudes who went after me took the stage and stunned everyone with their moves. I feel as if the emcee called me up just to embarrass me or something wtf! But oh well I was in a holiday mood, I didn't let it bother me and was cool about it. No photos because I was too lazy to get them from my friends. it should appear in facebook anyways.

After we walked around the mall, Teck Ming suggested that we try the Thousand Layer Cheesecake at Nadeje Patisserie Cafe located above the Dataran Pahlawan Megamall.

Went to walk around at the Kota A' Formosa to have a look at some historical structures. No nice photos there though, couldn't really trigger the creativity out of my brain at that time =(

We left the place after a while and went to the beach to catch the sunset. Just realised that I haven't been to a beach for some time already. It's always nice to walk along a beach with the cool breeze blowing through your face while witnessing the sun setting into the horizon.

After a refreshing walk at the beach, it is time for dinner! Satay celup is not something to be missed when you are visiting Melaka. We went to Restoran Capitol Satay at about 7pm. The shop is so popular that we queued up for more than half an hour just to eat satay celup =.=" It is the most famous satay celup store in Melaka I think.

The final destination before we went home was the Eye on Malaysia. I didn't have a ride on it because I tried it once while it was still at Titiwangsa. I thought it would be nicer to take a picture of it rather than riding on it. I was right =)

Last October, I went to the library and found an unattended cellphone.

It was a Nokia N70, grey in colour. I sat beside it for a good half hour, but nobody came to pick it up.

So I did. By going through the phone's messages, I discovered the guy's name, let's call him Raj, and his call logs indicate that he is not a local student. Then I contacted the last local number he called, hoping that the number brings me to a UNMC student.

And it did. Some time later Raj's friend came over and pick up the phone. And some hours later, I received a message from Raj, thanking me for my honesty.

Sidenote: I do have a lot of messages stored in my phone. This is message 939/1097.

I chatted with my friend over the internet about this event.

Me: I can't believe I returned a phone I found today. After months of wanting a better phone!

KS: How's your phone-shopping coming along?

Me: I nearly bought a Sony Ericsson P1i yesterday. Luckily I didn't! P1i's Wifi may not be compatible with UNMC's.

KS: See? Your honesty has paid off. That's karma!

Well that's not really what I call karma. Instead of two phones, now I get none?

Fast forward half a year. Last week after returning home, I realised that I didn't have my thumbdrive with me. Dang! Must have left it in the computer room.

The thumbdrive itself isn't that valuable. It costed over RM100, but that was more than three years ago. It's 512MB capacity isn't appealing either. What mattered was its contents. In it I had some past year questions, soft copy of notes, lab reports (I left my thumbdrive attached to the computer after printing these), and my programming codes for the electron...

Damn. I spent a whole 10 weeks programming for that electronic project. What's more, it's a group work, and my friends are relying on that piece of code for our entire module!

I immediately rushed to the computer room in the middle of the night, attempting to retrieve it, hoping against hope that it is still there.

But it wasn't. I inquired about it with the security guard, and waited while he contacted the main guardhouse.

And waited.

And waited.

"Long, black, Apacer thumbdrive?"

"Ah yes!"

"Go to guardhouse 1 to claim it."

I thanked the security guard, trying hard to hide my glee while rushing to the said guardhouse. Sure enough, my thumbdrive was waiting for me there. After filling in a report, I gladly went home with it.

That, my friends, is what I call karma.

The First SA Presidential Debate : The First UNMC Major Letdown !

As posted on our OWA1 mails and spammed while eating at the SA cafeteria, the SA held the first ever Presidential Debate, which I myself don't know what is it all about. So I came to the debate/hustings hoping that I'd know what it is.

It was held at F1A15, around 5pm. When I walked into the place, there were quite a number of people. Even the staffs came.

I think this guy is a staff/lecturer.

Anyway, back to the matter. So everybody arrived in the hall, with excitement and hopes that they will get to know the SA officers better, or simply to enjoy the comfortable air-conditioned room as it was stuffy and hot outside.

So while I was chatting with a friend, specifically a newly appointed SA officer, more and more students and staffs filled the hall.

In one of the pic above, there's an explanation about what is HUSTING. Even though they wrote it out quite big, I still don't understand a quarter of the meaning LOL.

Okay, then this is when the first MAJOR LETDOWN in the history of SA began. While waiting for the event to start, a person came up to the front stage and said " Ok listen everyone. May I have your attention please? We are sad to announce that today's debate has been CANCELLED due to some management problems. Please check your emails for futher updates ".

And that was it? No apologies, no next confirmed date of the debate/husting?! YOU GOTTA BE KIDDIN' ME! OMG, the first ever SA Presidential Debate just made the first ever Presidential impression : WHICH WAS NOT GOOD.

Sad, dissapointed, angry and frustrated, the attendees left the hall with groans and complaints.

On my way to the exit, seriously, lots and lots of unkind things were said. And all of it was to the Presidential Debate. Some even said that the SA does not take this matter seriously.

For the university management that handled this matter, please do not make a mistake like this again as it effects the SA's status and reputation on the students eyes.

I hope that the next debate/husting would not be another letdown.

Formula 1 2009 - Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang F1 Circuit

Thanks to iMechE, my fellow Mechanical Engineers and I are able to attend to the race at a heavily discounted price of RM30 for Tower seats. I borrowed Aaron's 18-200mm VR lens the night before since I don't have a zoom lens.

Tower seats at where the hairpin is. The long straights into the final corner is said to be the best place for overtaking manoeuvers.

We arrived late due to some technical problems and the massive jam on the way to the circuit. We only entered the gate only at 4.30pm and barely managed to catch the warm up laps.

The sound of a Formula 1 engine is absolutely monstrous. When one of the drivers left for the warm up lap, it was so loud as if a sports car is revving beside you, and they've yet to rev the car. It is hard to believe that it came from a distance away. The already loud engine of the engine roared into a beautiful rhyme of art as it revs all the way to 18000rpm. The engine note is simply orgasmic. If you think it sounds cool on TV, nothing beats hearing it right in front of you :)

This is my first time taking photos of a motorsport event. Was noobing because I couldn't get my framing right and my hands were shaky, resulting in many unsharp photos. Having long zooms is really cool.

Caught Heikki Kovalainen spinning off the track in the first lap at turn 4. His brakes got his rear loose and spun when he tried to countersteer to correct the direction of his car.

Was lucky enough to capture a live blown engine in sequence. Only posting this though. Poor Robert.

My favourite driver, Kimi Raikkonen. Massa can go die. Notice the red hot brake disc in the front wheels?

I am a McLaren fan, Kimi for the Championship, McLaren for constructor. If Kimi's not winning, Lewis and Heikki should.

As the race goes on, the lighting was getting bad due to the deteriorating weather condition. I had to constantly up my ISO by a stop from time to time. I even used ISO 1600 at one time but the pictures came out bad =.= The race was later stopped at lap 33 due to the heavy rain. Many cars aquaplaned into the gravels and I couldn't capture it :( Need at least a 70-200mm f/2.8...

That's all for now. Back to my thesis writing. Wanna re watch the race again but no time :( My first F1 race live = super fun! :D Wanna go again next year :)

The Red Carpet Affair

First and foremost, we would like to thank Muhsin, who sold us 3 of his tickets that he won from Raffle Draw for RM50 each. If it wasn't for you, we might have not covered the Annual Dinner. Although table 65 was near the main entrance/exit and friggin'ly annoying, well, you can't complain much 'cause the tickets only costs RM50.LOL. Anyway man, thanks a lot again for selling us your tickets.

Our team arrived at the hotel's lobby around 7pm, which there were quite a number of people had already arrived. We sank in awe, seeing everybody that night weren't quite themselves. Everyone looked like those Hollywood stars that was attending the Grammy Awards. All of them were simply glamorous, I'd say.

At the lobby, we met the man who made it all happen. I'd like everybody to give a standing ovation for him. SA Entertainment Officer,
Low Chong Ee who has sacrificed a lot for that night to the most memorable night of our lives.

We talked and chatted for a while, sort of making this an 'informal' interview. We asked several questions, the first being that why was the theme ' The Red Carpet Affair '.

He said that the theme was a message to the attendees that they need to dress glamorously, elegantly, extraordinary and all the verbs that describes wonderful features.

We also asked about his day, and whether all the hassle and turmoil has affected him. "Of course." he answered. Well, it was logical since he is in charge of the whole operation. The processes wasn't as simple as we expected.

As we remembered, he was saying that getting the Sunway Hotel's Grand Ballroom was no easy task. They had to find sponsors, and raise money in order to pay the relevant fees for the night. " We heard that there's gonna be some celebs. Is that true?".

" Yeap. Ean and Natalie from Hitz.FM! I wanted to invite Reshmonu too, but he offered us an unaffordable price." How's that for entertainment?! Oh yeah, and for those who don't know who those celebrities are, just type their name in Google.

So while waiting for the line,

The hotel served guests with free drinks while waiting, if we're not mistaken, it was cocktails. Busy meeting people and informally interviewing them, we then searched for the rumored free drinks.

And when we found one, it was depleted. All that was left was an empty glass. *Sigh* Poor us. Never mind that anymore. We have way better things to do than sipping drinks LOL. On with the story.

So next, we waited in line, took some pictures with our friends, strangers, or anybody who we think was glamorous enough to be in this blog ( Kidding, everybody looked really superb that night! ). At the end of the line, was a counter to collect the Annual Dinner tickets. From there, guests goes into the Ballroom and then their designated place.

After the ticket collecting and hand stamping, we were given two door gifts : A key chain with the writing " The Red Carpet affair" and an envelope that contained a mysterious item. Wanna know what it was? Asked those who went or just stay tune. We'll show you what it is!

So we walked into the ballroom, and once again, standing on top of the red carpet, in awe. THE BALLROOM WAS HUMONGOUS! We know that we can't describe it the way we experience it that night, but ask your friends who went and view the pictures below. Hope it could help your imagination a little.

We then searched for our table, which was not hard to find, table 65. Yes, at the end of the ballroom, and the furthest from the stage. But yet, it didn't effect our motivation to cover the Annual Dinner.

The table was fancy, really suited the word "first class". The seats were decorated as though it was like someone's wedding. Two kind of drinks were served, an orangy kinda juice and chinese tea. One table had 10 seats.

As you can see on the left, the itinerary starts at 8pm. Our team went in kinda late, so we missed Shaqeel's piano performance. Sorry Shaq!

On the right, was the menu for the night's dishes.Pretty awesome I'd say.

They had like, 8 sets of dish and all of them were like,

that would take like, more than RM100 per head.

And so our night started with a speech by Professor Ian Pashby. From what we remembered, he said something about last year's Annual Dinner speech that he gave.

He said 'Last year, right after I gave my speech, someone said "Ian, your speech was good. In fact, it was brilliant. But it was too short" . So this year, I want to make it a little bit longer'.

Then the guests, which mostly were Nottingham's students, sighed. But then, he said " Although I'll shorten it enough because I want to see the performances by our students. ". The crowd came to life again and was up and running.

Then, the first dish of the night came. It was called ' Special Cantonese Cold and Hot Appetizer's Platter ' (why does chinese cuisine's name are long?).

Anyway, the appetizer consisted of abalone, prawn, crab meat and some sushi crossed with dim sum kinda item.

As of the hunger from not eating lunch, the dish was quite appetizing and delicious. Just writing about it again makes me wanna have it once more.

While engulfing on the appetizer, a sudden change of lighting happened. And pop goes the laser show!

After the laser show, we were entertained with a performance by Mitra.

She performed a traditional Indian dance, complete with the costumes and accessories. Here's the vid of her performance.

Straight after we recorded Mitra's performance, the second dish was served.
This time, it was a soup. In the menu, it was called
'Clear Chicken and Vegetable Soup'.

Well, it's kind of clear in color, contained lots of chicken meat and vegetable, and as we weren't mistaken, the soup was a little bit peppery. Really brought out the chinese taste in the soup.

While slurping on the soup, a band from our own campus, THREE, performed two songs for the crowd. We didn't get to take any of their pics or vids because our camera ran out of battery.

Sincere apologies from the whole team to THREE. In anyways, their performance was awesome.

And after THREE's performance, was the event that some of us that night were waiting for. The Mr and Ms Nottingham Finals!

The competition started off with "catwalks" or simply walking down the stage and being introduced by the night's hosts, Ean and Natalie from Hitz.FM.

The one that attracted us was Ash's moonwalk. It was awesome dude! Continuing with the event, next up was the Jazz Band. What a funky and exciting groovy beat! The members played their instruments so smooth, it almost made us dancing. The bass, the guitar, the drums, the saxophone, all of 'em was amazingly synchronized!

Then, there was a slide show about the UNMC Photography Competition's winners pictures. Absolutely beautiful. Shot with high precision and awesome resolution, we didn't dare to take the pics, 'cause it won't look good (and besides, it was showed on a projector, so it kinda hard to take).

OK! So next on the menu! It's a chicken dish called
" Oven Roasted Chicken with Prawn Crackers ".

Seriously, it's the fastest dish to finish on our table! this pic was taken like, 7 seconds before it was completely wiped out!

Just remembering the tenderness and juiciness of the meat makes us drool again! Goodness!!

After fighting with each other for the final piece of chicken meat (kiddin'), Ean and Natalie announced the next event. The Mr and Ms Nottingham Question and Answers Session!

Honestly, we thought that the audience itself could ask any questions about them, but that was only in our imagination.

( If they did that, think 'bout all the personal and silly questions you could ask! ) LOL. The system was, the contestant picks a question number from 1 to 6, and they need to answer them in any way they want. Below is the video of the session :

While waiting for the next performance, the next dish came. The dish was called " Deep Fried Fish Fillet 'Pattaya' Style ".

It was called Pattaya for a reason. It's sauce surrounding the fish fillet was of Thai sauce, a sweet and spicy kinda sauce.

The fillet was nice, but on our opinion, the outer layer ( the crispy surface ) was kinda hard and it made us kinda hard to chew the food. We don't know 'bout other tables, but ours tasted like that.

Next up, AMIR! Our campus' own talent performed with utmost passion and talent! Who would've thought that among us, there is someone who could sing as good as Jason Mraz or John Mayer, heck, in our ears, he might be better! To all you record company director wannabes, he is what you want! An extraordinary talent that'll be the future superstar in years to come!

After an astonishing performance by Amir, next up was the Best Dress Award. It's just a competition where the judges picked 3 guys and 3 ladies from the guests, and after that, the hosts, Ean and Natalie asked the crowd who's dress for the night is the best. The better their dress, the louder the crowd cheered.

The competition was tight. Almost every cheer for every contestant sounded the same. But it all comes down to only 2 winners. The results of the Best Dress Award goes to...

Yes! The coolest and funny-looking guy of the night! Dude, no offense but when I saw your bow tie, I thought you were gonna perform a magic show or something! But well done man! Congratulations from the whole blogspot team! And to the other winner, which was Sunali, Where did you go after the dinner? We couldn't find you anywhere. We're so sorry for not having her picture and hope somebody could send us her picture.

Next on the menu is...the " Stir Fried assorted Vegetables with Mushrooms ".

God, why does the cuisines have such long names? How are we suppose to remember these names if we wanna dine here next time.

Sunway Hotel's kitchen'd better think of something fast. Kay, anyway, it's the only 100% vegetarian dish for our table. The mushroom's nice and juicy, so are the broccolis.

Steamed to perfection where it raptures smoothly when it's chewed in the mouth. Great vege dish.

As we were chewing our nicely cooked vegetable ( which we didn't even finished it at the end ),
Yamina, with her partner Vytautas, sang the crowd a song by Outkast called Hey Ya. It was melodically and beautifully sang by the Ms Nottingham finalist and the acoustic guitarist Vytautas. We managed to record the performance :

While waiting for the Grand Finale of the night, which was the crowning of the Mr and Ms Nottingham, we met Ean and Natalie live! And here's a picture as a proof :

Thanks a lot guys for making the night crazy! OK, so on with the Grand Finale. The winner was decided by votes, as each table will have 20 piece of paper, 10 comprising of the male candidates, and 10 more for the female candidates. We were required to tick the one that we think who'd be the most suitable to be the new Mr and Ms Nottingham 2009.

As you can see on the right, all the votes will be compiled and inserted into an envelope, which initially contained the voting sheets. The commitee members will then collect the envelopes for the vote counting.

Continuing on our journey into the culinary indulgence, the " Fried Rice 'Yong Zhou' Style with Garlic " came onto the table.

By this dish, everybody on the table was FULL! Goodness people, we just ate like, what? 5 dishes before this? Anyway, the point was, we didn't finish the dish.

One of our crew ate it a little, and all he could say was "Dude, I'm freaking full. I can't even feel a thing when I ate it". LOL !

The second Ean and Natalie opened their mouth, everybody's attention was toward the stage. Yes ladies and gentlemen, it was the results. The crowd started to cheer and jeer, cheering the ones they voted and vice versa.

We ourselves were nervous when the hosts said "...and the winner of the Mr and Ms Nottingham is...". Imagine the feelings and emotions of the finalists. Must've lotsa things goin' on in their heads. But at last, there could only be ONE Mr Nottingham and ONE Ms Nottingham.

AND SO, THE MISTER AND MISS NOTTINGHAM 2009 GOES TO...

Congratulations to Ms Nottingham 2009, you did a good job impressing the crowd with your talents and attitude.

We don't have Suraj's picture because we can't find him(LOL, you guys must be tired of the excuse, right?).

Well folks, looks like the dessert is here @ the last dish of the night. It's called
"Sweetened Honeydew Melon with Sago and Vanilla Cream ".

There were some of our friends said that this dish was the only dish that the ticket was worth paying for.

Well, the desert was in a fluid form, which consisted of sago ( google it if you don't know) and bits of honeydew which was crushed to the ground.

It had a fruity taste and smell, but yet contained a hint of vanilla, since vanilla ice cream was mixed in together inside the dessert.

After a sip or two of the delicious dessert, a voice rang through our eyes saying " Hey guys. We're MORITZ and we are gonna rock all of you tonight!" or something like that. After they played a song or two, Ean and Natalie (the hosts for the night) pulled somebody from the tables near stage to do one thing : DANCE!

Yeap, it's the opening of the dancefloor. There were like, 5 couples that the hosts picked and then, MORITZ played a slow song for them to dance. They then played a faster song than before and in a blink of an eye, the dancefloor was swarming with people!

It was awesome, and crazy at the same time. MORITZ played a medley from various famous songs, such as Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns n Roses, Smoke On the Water by Deep Purple, Enter Sandman by Metallica, and even All the Small Things by Blink 182.
Everybody was going wild that time.

So with the band ended their performance, the magnificent dinner finally comes to an end. After the dinner, everybody was busy taking pictures with anybody they could grab with.
