The local-level competition was hosted by the Ottawa Local Network of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).  This global competition begins with a presentation at a local event and ends with finalists making a presentation at a global level with a chance to win up to £ 1,000. She joined the department as an assistant professor and was promoted to the rank of associate professor last year. Martín-Pérez teaches seven different undergraduate and graduate courses and has also supervised many capstone design projects for fourth-year students since joining the Faculty. In addition, she gives a lecture on effective report writing to first-year students each year. The benchmark uses the h-index to rank researchers by influence in their field. The h-index, proposed by physicist J. E. Hirsch in 2005, is a measure of research output based on both publication and citation data for a given researcher. The HESA ranking includes every Canadian university faculty member and uses data from Google Scholar to calculate the h-index for each professor.
