Albany NY-Union College is going to the finals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament in Albany. This is a huge achievement for the Dutchmen this is the only D-1 NCAA Team that does not allow scholarships. The Dutch are the Tampa Bay Rays of D-1 Hockey. Nate Leaman the coach of the year in the ECAC should be extremely proud of what his team has done so far. Cornell beat Brown to also make the final at the Times Union Center. The final is set for tonite at 7pm. The goaltending of freshman standout Keith Kincaid stopped just about everything thrown at him the last 13 shots were some of the best saves we’ve seen in the tournament history. Let’s put this into perspective, here is a small college that does’nt put a lot of money in the athletic program, the men’s hockey team has only been in division 1 for 19 years, the rink is totally outdated, understaffed, and under paid. Now they are in the finals? Yes Nate you have a legitimate shot of beating the Big Red. Union fans came in abundunce and made some noise for a little hometown advantage. One of the classiest guys in hockey Nate deserves a new contract or someone will scoop him up quick. This is the only D-1 sport at Union mens and womens hockey. Maybe Union can now finally realize that more support is needed to stabilize this exceptional run now and into the future. As a close guarded fan and follower of Union Hockey, they let one good one slip away in Kevin sneddon. Now with his own history to write Nate Leaman should get some good offers in the next few weeks. Knowing that the Athletic Director is primarily a fund raiser these days, maybe he should get Nate a deal and finally keep a good guy around for the future.

Cornell Temple prediction is really a tough call. Known for it’s hockey Cornell has a legitimate shot of beating the Temple Owls. We tried to break it down for the everyday bracket player. Jeff Foote and Ryan Wittman are two excellent players who have received numerous awards. They have the 3 point threat and excellent guard play, though they really did’nt play anyone except for Syracuse and Kansas which they only lost by 5 at Kansas. Temple an atlantic 10 power house looks strong and physical. Cornell beat up the Ivy League but this is different, Fran Dunphy is familiar with the Cornell program having coached 17 seasons in the Ivy League. He owns a 30-4 all-time record against the Big Red. Being familiar against the Big Red will help Temple but can the Owls overcome a shooting handicap? The 29 wins by this Temple team are the third most in school history. The only Temple teams to win more than 29 games are the 1986-87 and 1987-88 teams that each won 32 games. The A-10 is a much stronger conference and it shows. Senior co-captain Ryan Brooks earned second team all-
Atlantic 10 Conference honors. He leads the Owls and ranks 13th in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 14.3 scoring average.

One of the top lockdown perimeter defenders in the conference, the 6-4 guard earned A-10 Player of the Week honors with a career-high 29 points (career-best 7 three-pointers) in the team’s win over UMass (1/16). In the process he became the 45th player in Temple history to reach the 1000-point plateau and now has 1,211 points. This looks like Temple will give Cornell a run and win this game with it’s speed and defense. If Cornell can’t shoot the ball early it will be over quickly. Temple will be to tough for the Big Red, a tough prediction but Temple should win.

SIENA CAN BEAT PURDUE IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

Spokane-Siena has a slim shot at beating Purdue, the #4 seed Purdue Boilermakers will face the #13 seed Siena Saints at 11:30 am est on Friday. Purdue lost Lewis Jackson with a injury last game. The Big Ten is not what it use to be when it comes to hoop but Purdue still has a tremendous advantage with size and strength. Siena led by Alex Franklin and Edwin Ubiles have tournament experience and with Ron Moore the national leader in assists should play tough for most of the game but Siena’s size will come into play. Ryan Rossiter is the only big man and is not a rebounder. It will be one and done this year for Siena. To much size and power for Purdue. It will be a bigger upset then last years team when they beat Ohio State in overtime. The MAAC is one of the weaker conferences in division 1. Siena did not beat any ranked opponents this year, they had Butler on the ropes for 10 minutes but Butler proved to be to good. Robie Hummel was lost for the year with a knee injury on Feb 24th, Purdue was ranked #3 until his injury but Purdue is still much better then Siena. Many picked the Saints to make the sweet sixteen, we can’t see them getting past the 1st round. They barely beat Fairfield in the MAAC conference final game. Fran McCaffery was Named NABC District 1 Coach of the Year and is one of the finest in the game. A product of Digger Phelps his coaching style is very similiar, stay in the game until the end and then make a run. Though we give credit where credit is due, Siena is a good team for the MAAC but nit enough strength and size to compete. This is a case where whoever wins the conference gets a automatic bid, to many teams that are much better then Siena deserve to get in the tournament. Purdue should win this matchup.

Zenyatta Wins Rachel Loses

Well Rachel Alexandra does’nt look that good, and Zenyatta looks GREAT! The Fair Grounds did’nt expect the unexpected. The horse of the year looked short and could’nt switch leads coming down the stretch which is a sign of fatigue, maybe tying up coming down to the finish. It looked like she was comfortable but was unable to sustain a late kick. On the other hand Zenyatta looked like the horse of the year, dodging in and out and in again and looked smooth to win at Santa Anita. Mike Smith was 15 lengths out of it coming into the turn and for a second it looked like she would’nt have the room to get through. But great horses like this only come around once or twice in a lifetime. John Sherriffs has this mare in top shape. Will it be a match race in Arkansas? I have to believe that Zenyatta is a much better horse right now. OK Rachel fans hse did look short, and Steve Asmussen knows she probably needed a race but it did’nt look good.

They are losing a fanbase when it comes to employees like this. His demeanor is about as cocky as they come. PTI is crashing because of his boldness to smash anyone he can. It does’nt take a brain surgeon to see that his commentary is situated around people or sports celebrities that have a checkered past. This is no way to conduct yourself as a broadcaster, he is not alone. Through my years of following sports I’ve never come across so many (bigshots) on TV that rip athletes. No one cares about his so called 2 bit comments. Sports writers have come a long way-in the wrong direction. ESPN is losing it’s strength in this field. The people they hire for thier insight who are so called experts in their chosen fields are not worth listening to. Let’s take Barry Melrose, who can’t hold a job anywhere but ESPN. His uncanny ability to get fired wherever he goes is to be proud of. Let’s take Chris Berman and his mouthy out takes. Take a look at this skilled and witty guy in action
