Having a disability of any type at work can make things very difficult, and it is even worse when a coworker intentionally harasses you.

What would you do if you were known to be easily startled due to PTSD and one of your coworkers jumped out from behind you and shouted to scare you?

That is what happened to the woman in this story, and then he denied doing it until a video of the incident was shown. Now he has been fired and is facing criminal charges, but he wants her to drop the charges. She doesn’t think that she should have to.

While it might be nice to drop the charges, I don’t think she is in any way obligated to. Read through the full details of the situation below and see what you think.

AITA – someone fired and now criminal charges bc they pranked me

Relevant backstory: I was rear ended by a semi years back. I am a paraplegic and have a brain injury and PTSD from that accident.

It is remarkable that they can work at all.

I have off and on done some remote (900+ miles) project management for the team I worked with when I got hurt.

There are two lingering problems: 1. I react big when startled – if something loud happens behind me and I am holding something I throw it. (This is a big improvement over where I used to puke and faint and it’s manageable – I always sit with my back to the wall.)

No big deal, some people just cry more easily than others.

2. I cry 5-6x/day completely at random for no reason, and overall I cry really easily with minimal cause. It’s awful and I tell everyone about these things immediately and often.

Now AITA. I had a new colleague (NC). NC came to conference in town where I live. He wanted to meet for first time, discuss (very successful nearly finished) project.

This is absolutely cruel.

We met. I was escorting him to his car, he said he left something behind in work space, came back quietly, yelled “boo” just behind me.

I threw my work laptop at fence, it smashed, I was panic-gulp-bawling, NC said something like “wow you are even worse than they said”.

Not only was he mean, but now he is lying about it.

My neighbor came running, took him away and I went in house, calmed down, called IT for new laptop and got transferred to HR.

His version of events was extremely different, and included accusations of my weeping being manipulative to cover willful destruction of employer property.

You have to do what the company wants in this situation.

Neighbor has video file, w/sound. I sent file to HR. NC terminated, no appeal possible. HR asked if I wanted file sent to police, said corporate legal wants to.

I said um okay. He has been charged with some kind of felony, which DA will not drop or plead down w/o my consent.

He isn’t sorry; he is just mad that he is in trouble.

Charges alone make him unemployable in his (highly specialized) area forevermore. Video makes conviction pretty guaranteed.

He has written apology, and I am not impressed. I watched the video and he is smirking like Jack Sparrow sneaking up, looks shocked when laptop is thrown and I lose it but the speed and eloquence of his CYA call to HR and the stuff he said to them gives me fury.

I think she can do whatever feels right; there is no wrong answer from her perspective.

Also, I have relationships, diagnoses and video etc to protect me – I am much less vulnerable than I must have seemed – how many times has he pulled something like this and gotten away with it?

AITA for not telling DA to drop it? I don’t feel like TA (I feel very hurt and mad, so I am worried I am being petty and spiteful) but also he really will not get work in his field again and he solely supports his family.

None of that is her concern.

Stupid games stupid prizes, but – he’s got 7 kids under 16, 2 are profoundly disabled and his wife has never worked.

I have 10 days to get back to HR/legal/DA.

WIBTA?

He should have thought of his family before doing something so cruel and heartless. If she chooses to drop the charges, that is nice, but it certainly isn’t required.

If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a person who spent nearly 3 decades climbing the ladder at work only to be fired in a meeting that lasted less than a minute.

Read on to see what the people in the comments have to say about this terrible story.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

I was wondering about this as well.

Yup, he isn’t really sorry at all.

What he did was done intentionally.

Of course knew about her condition and did it anyway.

He doesn’t regret what he did, he regrets the consequences. He messed up, and now he has to live with that. I don’t know if he belongs in jail, but he certainly doesn’t deserve sympathy.

I hope he learned his lesson, especially since he has disabled children himself. Intentionally doing something like this is not acceptable.

Imagine having to tip toe around your own home…

It sounds pretty absurd, but you hear stories about people essentially being prisoners in their own homes all the time.

And it happened again, folks…

In today’s story, a person explained how their neighbor has gone WAY over the edge and calls the police on them for making even the smallest bit of noise.

Read on and see what you think about what’s going on here.

My neighbor is suing me for having a loud voice (for the second time).

“A few years ago I moved into a rental.

There was a rental crisis going on at the time and it was the only property I was approved for out of the hundreds I applied for. It was in a great location near my work and was a really nice house. I was super thrilled.

The real estate passed on an email from the landlord, basically welcoming me to the house, here is the best local cafe, here is how the dishwasher works, oh by the way, the neighbor is notorious for calling the council.

This was about to get interesting…

Didn’t think to much about this until a few months in to the lease I awoke one morning to a parking fine on my windshield. I was parked in the driveway but overhanging past the fence line about 1 meter.

I was mad and confused as to why the local council was patrolling an outer suburb to issue parking fines until I remembered the email.

So I was like, okay my neighbor has called the council because I was parked 1meter past the fence line. For some clarity this is a shared house I was living in.

3 people sharing 1 driveway that barley fits two cars, and given the street is lined both sides with townhouses and apartments, street parking is hard to come by.

You know the type…

My neighbor next door (we are both in detached houses with a yard) has a trailer parked on the street in front of her house, centered so it takes up two parking spaces. This trailer is completely rusted out, flat tires you name it, but registered (and thus legal to leave on the street for as long as its registered).

I checked on google street view, and confirmed with other neighbors, and the trailer has been there for at least 25 years.

My neighbor is paying $150 a year to register her broken trailer, just so no one will park in front of her house, on a busy street, while also calling the council on anyone else that parks even slightly out of place.

Another night, I had to hang some clothesline on my back deck, so I set up a portable work light (one of those tripod ones you would use to paint a wall). It so happened that the light was pointed into her backyard.

This lady was straight-up obnoxious.

Well you guess it, few days later I get a letter in the mailbox from the local council, saying a neighbor has reported me for light pollution!

I ring the council and they assure me that its just a formal letter saying someone has made a complaint, and that if what I said was true, that I should just ignore it.

Then the next day the real estate ring me up. They explain to me that despite the landlord instructing them to ignore the neighbor’s complaints they just wanted to let me know that they were receiving so very many of them.

Turns out, every single time I would have a visitor, even if it was just a relative dropping by for 5 minutes in the middle of the day, she was immediately on the phone to the real estate reporting me for having guests and complaining.

She would send them weekly updates on the length of the lawn. She would email them if I forgot to take my bins out.

They finally had enough.

At this point I went and confronted her, asking her what her problem was. This quickly got heated and she started screaming at me, saying my voice is to loud and I am being a nuisance.

Then the legal stuff began.

About a year and half ago I came home to a statement of claim. My neighbor was suing me for costs, damages and seeking a permanent injunction to prevent me or anyone else in the house from making any noise, smoke or light whatsoever.

OH MY GOD.

I would later find out, that in the 10 months she had filed over 160 noise complaints to the police. We are talking 2 pm on a Sunday for playing my car radio while washing it in my yard. 6 pm on a Tuesday for playing an acoustic guitar on the front porch.

The police even had stated in one of the reports that they had “never” detected noise, and that they had deemed her to be vexatious complainer.

It should also be noted that in those 10 months, I had never once had any interactions with police. 160 complaints and not once had the police even done so much as issue me a warning.

One night, in winter, my roommate put two logs in a designated fire pit in the front yard and sat around it with his friend. In the lawsuit, she described this as us “lighting a bonfire on the front grass” and demanded that I replace all the curtains in her entire house due to the damage the smoke caused them.

What is going on here?!?!

She is claiming damage from inhaling cigarette smoke. We don’t even smoke. She is legit taking me to court to try and ban me from having guests be able to smoke a cigarette in my own yards.

So after spending thousands of dollars to retain a lawyer, we go to mediation, where she demands that I am to make no noise whatsoever after 7 pm, 7 days a week.

I say this is ridiculous.

After 7 hours in mediation, I make it very clear that her demands are absolutely insane and she has no leg to fall on in regards to her complaint regarding smoke and light. I also explain that it’s a share house and that if she has issue with my roommate she needs to take it up with them and not sue me for their behavior.

She changes tactics and claims the main issue is my voice being to loud. Eventually we settle. She agrees to drop the lawsuit. I agree to limit my speaking outside after 10 pm. We swap numbers.

You really thought that was going to clear this up…?

Almost immediately she starts harassing me though text. 7 pm, and I’m inside cooking dinner in the kitchen talking to my roommate and she’s texting me telling me to be quiet (again we are in separate detached houses).

She basically ignores the mediation and starts harassing us for making reasonable and expected levels of noise at all hours of the day or night. Can’t have people around.

She called the cops on me for having a phone call with my mother on the back deck on Mother’s day. I block her number, understanding that there is no compromising with crazy.

Jeez…

One Saturday night we have a few guests around. I’m sitting in my lounge room watching TV and notice there are a few police standing on the footpath shining torches into my yard. I got outside to see if everything is all right.

The police explain there here about a noise complaint, but they’re literally standing on the footpath and can not detect any unreasonable noise.

They look extremely frustrated. At this moment, the neighbor comes outside and starts SCREAMING at the police. Telling them to do their jobs and arrest me for being a nuisance. The cops roll their eyes and go over to confront her. I go back inside.

A year goes by. Another lawsuit. This time in the district court. This time I am fighting it. There will be no mediation. There will be no compromising.

I’ve gone through the dates she’s indicated on the lawsuit. I swear to God, one of the nights is because I was playing a game of Uno in my bedroom with 2 others between 6 pm – 9 pm on a Saturday night.”

Sitting across from someone who’s praising a person for a quality they faked is one of the most uncomfortable positions you can find yourself in.

The man in this story faced that same choice after his sibling lied to his fiancée about why he missed their anniversary dinner.

His sibling told her that work called him in for a grueling shift, but in reality, the two were living it up at a baseball game.

Once his sibling realized how badly he screwed up, he begged him to stay quiet.

But when the fiancée started gushing about how “dedicated and hardworking” her partner was, the man finally reached his limit and told her the truth.

Now the wedding’s off and the entire family is mad.

Keep reading for the full story.

AITA for telling my brother’s fiancée why he really missed their anniversary

My brother told his fiancée he missed their anniversary dinner because he got called into work.

I knew that wasn’t true because he was with me at a baseball game.

From the start, his brother wanted him to cover for him.

He begged me not to say anything because he’d already lied and “it would only make things worse.”

So finally, he couldn’t hold back the truth any longer.

A few days later, his fiancée was talking about how lucky she was to have someone who cared so much about his job, and I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

I told her where he actually was.

This had some pretty big consequences.

She immediately left, and now their wedding is on hold.

My brother says I ruined his relationship over “one stupid lie,” and my parents think I should’ve stayed out of it because it wasn’t my business.

I think she deserved to know she was being lied to.

AITA?

His brother could have just told the truth from the start, but guess he didn’t think of that.

Someone who lies about something like this presents some serious red flags.

This user doubts whether this marriage would have panned out.

Sometimes snitching is justified.

If the lie was really that stupid and small, it wouldn’t have blown up the engagement.

The fiancée didn’t put the wedding on hold because she found out her partner went to a baseball game. She put it on hold because a man who lies about something like this would have no hesitation lying about other things too.

His sibling asking him to carry his dirty secret was just plain unfair from the start.

Imagine working at a company with a coworker who doesn’t have quite as much experience as you do, but you’re both technically at the same level in the company. If a new project came up that you both wanted to work on, would you make sure the boss knew you were the best person for the job, or would you back off and let your coworker have the project?

In this story, one employee is in this situation, and she is very determined to let the boss know that she wants to work on the project even if that means criticizing her coworker’s work on the project to make herself look better. Now, she’s wondering if she really did mess up. She didn’t intend for her coworker to be mad at her.

Let’s read the whole story to see exactly what happened.

AITA for accidentally becoming my colleagues supervisor?

So due to the pandemic a new ‘project’ for lack of a better word was started.

The person (T) who is leading this project kind of got it by accident, she was leading a smaller project and then the new one got tagged on and has since expanded to become the largest in our workplace.

My colleague has about 5 years less experience than me in our industry but we are about the same level and are potentially both going for the same promotion soon.

She was proactive about working on the project.

My usual project has taken a backseat recently so I’m not as busy as usual and asked our boss if I could help.

I also send him some documents I found that might be helpful and he was pretty pleased.

In order to help out I created some minor tasks for the team that would help track the progress of our project and started writing another document laying out the plan.

T isn’t too happy with OP’s initiative.

When I sent these out to our colleagues, T was a little annoyed and said that I should have gone to her 1st.

Fair enough.

When I noticed a couple of things for the project hadn’t been completed by T yet I mentioned this to our boss and offered to do this.

Almost immediately afterwards I also messaged T with my offer.

It seems that OP overstepped and got it wrong.

T got mad and said that she had already done those things but either hadn’t got round to sending them to our boss as she wanted to discuss them with him or just hadn’t sent them to me.

She then sent them to me and fair enough she had done them.

She was also mad at the fact that I had gone to our boss about it rather than her but I just want to make sure the project gets done properly.

I don’t think T is doing a terrible job, she communicates well with the rest of our staff and has led meetings and training.I just think she could be more efficient about the way she does things and because I have more experience thought I could help her.

OP seems to turn every conversation back to herself and to her benefit.

Here’s where I could be the jerk.

I was in a meeting with my boss about something unrelated and he asked me how I thought T was getting on.

I was honest and said that she was doing a good job for someone who had never lead a big project before but that I had some ideas to make it even better.

My boss said that I should liaise with T and oversee what she is doing and let her know I’ve become the point of call for advice.

T is pretty upset.

T is now going round saying that I’ve become her supervisor and that she clearly wasn’t trusted with this project.

She has become quite passive aggressive and when I asked her to update me she sent about 30 documents and actions to look through.

AITA? I was genuinely only trying to help.

Some of my colleagues are saying it’s only natural that I would have this role but most are saying that I stole the project from T and that I’ve done similar things before. I’m pretty upset by what has happened as T and I used to get on well.

It sounds like OP took initiative to proactively let the boss know her thoughts and that she wants to help on the project. I can see why T is annoyed though. She could’ve backed off since she knew T wanted to work on the project. Was she wrong for taking over?

She feels bad that her coworker feels bad, but this wasn’t an accident. She wanted the promotion. She wanted to be in charge, and if that meant making her coworker look bad to make herself look good, she was up for it. She can’t play the victim now. It’s understandable why her coworker is upset. That’s the consequence of getting what she wanted.

You don’t win friends at work by stealing their promotion.

Imagine living in a house with some roommates where you have just enough room in your driveway for all of your cars and rarely need to use the public street parking, but your other neighbors aren’t so lucky and often need to use the street parking for their cars.

What would you do if your neighbors kept accusing you of parking in their “spot” when you’re not and accused you of hitting their car when you didn’t?

In this story, one college student is in this situation, and she’s regretting the way she handled it when an angry couple came to her door yelling at her and her roommate.

Keep reading to see if you think she handled the situation poorly or if her reaction was justified.

Lady obsessed with public parking

I recently moved into a house downtown in a smallish city.

We are one of the only houses on the street to have our own driveway. Most people have to use public, non assigned free street parking.

However, my driveway will only fit 3 cars ( me and my two roommates). So if we have guests they have to use street parking.

To preface the closet public parking deck is about 3/4 mile away.

This would be frustrating!

I had multiple instances of families coming into my porch screaming at me to “move my car” out of their spot, when in fact my car is in the driveway.

There are mostly families living in the area and me and my roommates are all post grad working full time.

We never throw parties, and the only overnight guests that we have are when my roomates long distance boyfriend stays for the weekend around once a month.

However I live in a duplex when college students living beside me, who do often have parties and guests over frequently. (have my own separate issues with them).

Now we get to the most recent issue.

Well last night was the final straw.

I had a couple in their late 40s banging on my door like crazy people accusing my friend of hitting their car ( my friend came over to celebrate her birthday).

She did not hit their car.

Then it turned into the wife screaming at me how “I have lived her for ten years and we’ve never had a problem until you moved in” along with telling me how disrespectful and rude I am.

It seems that even the woman’s husband thought she was acting crazy.

I never scream or curse usually but it turned into me arguing with her and eventually screaming at her to get off my porch, while crying.

Her husband at this point is already back at their house. He is screaming at her to get off my porch.

Finally after about 20 minutes she leaves, threatening to call the cops on me.

Luckily my ring camera caught most of this.

She’s not sure what to do.

I just don’t know what to do at this point.

Do I apologize for yelling at them? Leave it be?

If I have overnight guests which is very rare they park at the parking deck and walk.

I think I should be allowed to use public street parking when I need to. What would yall do ?

The crazy neighbor is the problem here, not OP.

Another person shares the parking situation in their neighborhood.

Here’s some more good advice.

I like this suggestion!

The commenters definitely provided a lot of good suggestions. Hopefully OP finds this helpful and can take action to prevent the neighbor from trying to intimidate her.

The neighbor is clearly the problem here. The parking situation isn’t ideal, but OP isn’t doing anything wrong.

Do first dates really need to be this intense?

I always thought that the initial meeting between two interested parties should be light and easy-going.

What do you like to do for fun?

What’s your favorite movie?

Those kinds of things…

But I guess there are new dating rules, folks!

A woman wrote the story below and talked about how her first date with a fella went off the rails.

Let’s take a look!

AITA for tricking/misleading a guy into thinking I want kids?

“I went on a date with a guy I met off a dating app (let’s call him Mark).

Mark seemed really good on paper – good looking, tall, good job, great conversation, funny etc. However, there wasn’t anything about kids on his profile. I, myself, don’t want kids.

It’s rough out there in the dating world!

I have also learned, unfortunately, that a lot of guys will lie about this because they think I’ll “change my mind”, or in their brains they think they’re just so amazing they’ll magically convince me otherwise or some other stuff like that.

So I never ask guys straight up.

During the date, he asked me what I’ve been up to. I answered that I helped host a birthday party for my niece. I talked about what a cutie she is, how she’s so sweet and so perfect and how I had a such a good time with her (all true, by the way).

THEN, because I saw the opportunity, I asked him about his view about kids.

He said that he loves kids, and that he’s looking forward to having kids of his own.

There’s nothing wrong with being honest…

At the end of the date, I let him down very gently that I didn’t want a second date because we’re incompatible. He asked why. I told him the truth – he says he wants kids. I don’t.

He then told me he was lying. He doesn’t actually really want kids. He’s ambivalent and could go either way.

She’s not buying it!

I don’t believe him. And even if that was true, that would mean he was lying to me before, which is a red flag anyway. So still, not going to work out.

He says I was the one showing red flags first. I was putting pressure on him to answer in a certain way otherwise he wouldn’t get a second date.

That by purposefully telling that story, and then asking him about kids, I was forcing him to answer a certain way and misleading him into believing that I want kids. He thinks I tricked him into giving the “wrong” answer.

To each their own…

I don’t think there’s a “wrong” or “right” answer, and I think it’s concerning he thinks there is. I do admit I may have misled him, but I think that’s on him for making assumptions.

I never did say I wanted kids. Only that I adore my niece, and that’s entirely true. I do also admit I do this on purpose, because I don’t want guys to give me an answer they think I want.

AITA for misleading a guy into thinking I want kids when I don’t?”

Another Reddit user said she’s NTA.

This individual agreed.

And this person spoke up.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-833669" src="https://twistedsifter.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Screenshot-2026-06-28-at-6.16.11-PM.jpg" alt="Screenshot 2026 06 28 at 6.16.11 PM She Rejected a Guy for a Second Date Because She Doesnt Want Kids.
Well, that was interesting…

I think people need to ease into these kinds of serious conversations after they get to know someone for a bit…

But that’s just me!

Imagine being at work towards the end of the work day when you get assigned a project you know you won’t have time to finish by the end of the day. Would you work overtime to finish the task or leave as soon as you’re scheduled to leave?

In this story, one employee was in this situation, and she used to stay to work overtime to finish the project. Then she found out her boss’s policy on paying overtime and decided she wasn’t going to stay late anymore.

This meant more work for her boss, but it’s not fair to expect employees to stay late and not get paid for it.

Keep reading for all the details.

Only management can grant overtime? Sure thing boss!

I worked as an assistant in a team of 3 for a broker’s office.

When I got hired I was told that since it was a “family business” everyone was expected to make sacrifices which SOMETIMES meant that overtime was needed.

As I came to learn, sometimes was just their way of saying every other day.

Working overtime and not getting paid for it sounds illegal.

Two months in I realized that most people in the company worked at least 5-10 hours of overtime a week…completely unpaid.

After a particularly hard 10 hour day (for the 4th day in a row), I went into my bosses’ office and asked how overtime requests worked.

She mentioned that the rule was “if we give you a task that needs overtime, we will let you know”. She then clarified that unless she ok’d that overtime was needed at the beginning of a client request/task, then we could assume we would not be paid any overtime.

For the next week I would receive extremely complicated client requests from our boss that would force me to stay in the office until 7-8pm (we start at 8:30am). When I asked our boss she would just say “I don’t know what to tell you, I did not ok the overtime”.

Two can play that game.

Ok then. So it’s gonna be like that.

For the next month, every time I got a client request I would analyse how long it would take.

Most of the time, if I got a request before 2pm I would be able to complete whatever they asked for before my scheduled time to leave (5pm). If I got a very complicated task then I would probably need to finish it in the morning.

Of course, my boss never stated that ANY client request/task required overtime.

Here’s how she handled projects that were assigned later in the day.

These would go like this:

Me: oh this looks fairly complicated boss looks at the clock reading 3:45PM

Boss: yup! Sure is! Thanks [my name].

Me: so nothing special about this? Ok. Then!

She never worked overtime again.

As soon as 5pm struck I was out the door. Oh client really needed this done today? Well I guess it could wait seeing as boss did not mention overtime!

Oh? Client in a different time zone was mad because nobody picked up the phone after 5pm? Well I sure am glad boss stayed until 9pm solving his request!

What’s that it’s 4:30pm and a client will lose hundreds of dollars if their request is not solved by tonight? Sure thing, I am not authorized to work overtime but I will put you through to my boss!

In the 5.5 months that I was there I never once heard my boss “grant” anyone overtime. I guess in her mind you can expect workers to work 60 hour weeks/come in on the weekend but…not compensate them because “I did not approve it”?

If her boss didn’t complain that she left at her scheduled time and didn’t stay for overtime, then it sounds like it all worked out well. Maybe the boss really didn’t expect her to stay for overtime.

I agree. Don’t work unpaid overtime.

This is a good way of putting it!

One person shares what they said to their boss in a similar situation.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-832006" src="https://twistedsifter.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/2026-06-26-at-1.54.14-PM.jpg" alt="2026 06 26 at 1.54.14 PM A Boss Declared All Overtime Must Be Pre Approved to Get Paid.
Wage theft is real. Don’t let your employer get away with it. It sounds like the employee in this story wised up. She’d be smart to share her strategy with her coworkers. If they all refuse to work overtime, the boss will either have to start paying or hire more employees to take on the extra work.

Imagine moving into a house with your partner. You might be looking forward to getting to know your neighbors.

What would you do if one of the neighbors stopped by with a letter and was basically trying to involve you in a neighborhood war between her and another neighbor you haven’t even met yet. How would you respond?

In this story, one couple is in this exact situation. It’s tricky because they don’t want to be involved in this drama at all. They don’t want to make any of their neighbors upset. Yet, they know they’ll most likely make someone upset no matter how they respond.

Keep reading for all the details.

Neighbor wants me to mediate a parking issue on their behalf

Late last night, my neighbor (we’ll call her Sally, about 70 years old) from across the street dropped off a letter at the door.

My partner and I are relatively new to the neighborhood, so this was the first introduction to the neighbor that we’ve had.

The letter described a conflict with another neighbor (we’ll call her Jane, about 45 years old).

Sally has a request.

Apparently, Jane has been parking her car directly in front of Sally’s driveway on the other side of the street, making it difficult for Sally and her family to pull in and out of their driveway. It’s a tight, dead-end street, so maneuvering out of the driveway with a car on the other side of the street across from your driveway is certainly tricky.

In her letter, Sally pointed out that, because the spot Jane is parking in is directly to the right of OUR driveway, it is technically illegal for Jane to park there without our permission (must be a distance of at least 5 feet on either side of private driveway, unless granted permission).

Well, Sally is asking us to report it to the police and have signs put up on either side of our driveway that say “No parking within 5 feet of driveway” so that she no longer has an issue backing out of her driveway and so we have “more parking for our guests.”

Sally has apparently already asked police and the municipality to do this, who told her that she must get the homeowners (us) to enforce the rule/call the police, since it’s our driveway.

They’re hesitant to pick sides in this neighbor drama.

We are sympathetic to the issue, because Jane really could park ten feet farther on the other side of our driveway, where there is extra parking, making it easier on Sally.

We don’t necessarily believe that Jane is being malicious, because street parking is somewhat limited, and where she currently parks is the next closest to her home, but she also could easily park a little further and remove the issue.

However, we don’t know the dynamics or backstory between these two neighbors, like past conflicts, and whether Sally has tried to reason with Jane or not / if Jane realizes what she is doing.

Either way, we really don’t want to get involved and escalate a situation, especially as newer neighbors just now settling in.

They don’t want to make any of their neighbors upset.

We certainly don’t want to put up signs and have the police come out!

We also don’t care who uses parking alongside our driveway. We have enough for our household and it doesn’t impede on us to have others parking there.

We would prefer not to make enemies, but someone will likely end up unhappy in this exchange– either Sally or Jane– based on how we choose to proceed.

Our plan now is to write a letter back (rather than exchanging phone numbers; in case Sally turns out to be a fussy/uptight personality, we don’t want her to have unfettered contact with us) telling her that we don’t want to escalate, but she is welcome to have her guests park alongside our home, including on either side of the driveway, and she can also use our driveway to turn around on the street, if it is helpful.

This is not the best way to be introduced to your new neighbors!

Here’s another vote for mediation.

This is a good question.

Everyone suggests not getting involved.

This is an awful way to be welcomed to the neighborhood. Getting involved will only make the situation worse. This not their problem to solve.

Everyone has bad days, but there’s still a time and place for personal phone calls… and ringing up customers probably isn’t it.

That’s what one grocery store customer found after stopping by a late-night store to grab something to eat following a stressful day.

The store only had one checkout lane open, which wasn’t a big deal because there was just one customer ahead of her.

The problem was that the cashier spent the entire time arguing on her cell phone instead of paying attention to the people she was supposed to be helping.

And the worst part is that it was still going on when this customer walked out of the store nearly ten minutes later.

Read on to see how it all unfolded.

Cashier on her cell phone having loud, personal argument in front of customers

I was grocery shopping the other night at a 24-hour big-box store. You probably know which one.

So I was in line after grabbing some frozen food because I was dealing with a stressful situation and hadn’t eaten in 12+ hours. So I was hangry but just patiently waiting my turn.

The store only had one lane open, but there was only one other person in front of me, and she was finishing up her transaction.

It should’ve been pretty quick, but it wasn’t.

It probably would’ve gone by faster if the employee ringing her up wasn’t having a loud, personal phone argument while she was supposed to be working.

She took forever to finish the lady’s transaction because she and another employee (who I assume are either relatives or roommates, idk) were having a loud argument about what they were going to eat when they got home, and whoever they were talking to on the phone kept calling back.

The lady in front of me got her things after the cashier, who was half-****** everything, finished ringing her up and didn’t even acknowledge her (“Have a good night,” “Thank you,” etc.) because she was still screaming on the phone.

At this point, she was just waiting to be acknowledged.

I waited almost a full 2 minutes for her to even acknowledge me after the first lady left.

As I’m staring at her, she’s still arguing with the person behind her, who has now put the person on the phone ON SPEAKERPHONE so the entire store could hear them arguing.

I didn’t say anything. I just stared her straight in the face, waiting for her to ring me up instead of focusing on her phone conversation.

By this point, nearly 10 minutes had passed.

She finally rang me up, not saying anything to me, of course, and giving me a stink face for daring to expect her to do her job instead of talking loudly on the phone.

She had been having this conversation for at least 6–7 minutes now, still yelling and screaming. She finally finished my transaction, looking away from the screen to talk to the employee behind her every so often, and at the end of my transaction, of course, she didn’t say, “Thank you,” “Have a good night,” etc. to me either.

I walked out, and I could still hear her yelling on the phone. It was totally unnecessary and super annoying and rude.

Wow! Now, that’s some poor customer service.

This reader would complain.

For this retail worker, no phones are allowed on the floor.

According to this person, they would’ve said something.

This is a valid point.

This whole situation sounds a bit crazy.

If nobody in management noticed what was going on, that’s a problem. If they did notice and let it continue, that’s an even bigger one.

She would be completely justified in reporting this, because it may be the only way the store knows something like this happened.

Either way, let’s hope this behavior gets addressed before another customer has the same experience.

Folks, if you have a dog, clean up after them when they go to the bathroom…

It’s really as simple as that!

But, let’s back up a bit…

You and I both know that, even in this day and age, a lot of folks STILL aren’t cleaning up after their pooches.

It’s gross, it’s rude, and it’s LAZY BEHAVIOR.

And it’s even worse when it’s in your own backyard!

Read on and learn about why this person is really annoyed that their housemates aren’t being good pet owners.

Start now!

Neighbors won’t watch their dogs in our shared backyard.

“As the title reads, my roommate and I share a back yard with new housemates in a split household. The house is divided in half and we have a huge back yard with a fence.

They moved in a few months ago with many promises, to which they don’t keep but one of the non-negotiables was picking up their dog poop.

Sounds reasonable, right?

They have two dogs, one is a sweetheart and one is aggressive, this came from them and they wanted us to interact with them so they get used to us, it just hasn’t happened.

We let them know multiple times we work outside a lot, we do lots of yard work and we go outside multiple times a day.

They told us it may be an issue with the aggressive dog, so they bought him a muzzle and have put it on him one time, and told us they would be careful when letting the dogs out, they don’t ever look when they let them out, the aggressive dog has charged at us multiple times and it jumped on me last week.

These folks sound pretty irresponsible.

We have told them multiple times that this has happened, they just don’t respond to our texts. We tell them in person and they don’t really say anything. They pick up their dog poop once a week, but the dogs ONLY like to poop on our side of the house.

Under our windows, in front of our door, our gate, and when we work outside its nowhere near their side of the yard. They’re dogs, its not their fault but it’s the lack of cleaning thats absolutely disgusting.

We step in it so often, even when we are very cautious to not walk near it that the landlord has also stepped in but nothing has changed. The dogs also pee on EVERYTHING we have outside, killing our plants and ruining furniture.

One of the housemates said they will spray something to get them to stop peeing on all our stuff but never has. The communication WAS there, but nothing has ever been done about it.

Gross!

Our side of the home smells like poop even with the windows closed, its an old home with leaky windows, and honestly its the most disgusting things I’ve had to deal with.

My roommate and I both have dogs at our parents’ and we are well aware of how having dogs is, but we also know how to clean up after them and properly watch them. When I say all this, I’m not blaming the dogs, I just don’t know what to do anymore.

The landlord has told them multiple times to keep it clean or they’re going to face major fines and consequences, he ended up stepping in it the other day and snapped.

I’m honestly at a loss, the landlord said he would put a dividing fence in the already fenced in yard but it’ll cause so much conflict and issues that neither of us can afford, they’re already pretty strange.

I cannot tell another adult how to watch their dogs or tell them to just pick up after them right after they poop like any other person would, but I’m about to tell them to start treating the yard like a sidewalk. I’m pretty sure they’d do the same for anyone else’s yard though.

I don’t know what to do anymore, honestly.”

Companies hire employees to perform various tasks, and when a company is run properly, they reward the best employees for getting the tasks done properly and efficiently.

What would you do if you were the top performer for years, which helped you to earn a higher wage, but then the company changed its work policy, making it so you would not get anything for going above and beyond?

That is what happened to the guy in this story, so he quickly found a new job, and during his last couple of weeks, he only did the bare minimum. By his last day, the company was hundreds of tickets behind on work with no way to get caught up.

This type of story is very satisfying to read because it shows how stupid decisions that companies make can have devastating consequences. Read through teh full story below and see what you think.

Punished for over-performing, so I did the bare minimum before leaving…

I worked remotely for an auto parts company for almost 4 years, finally getting a promotion after the company merged with another.

Let’s see what he was punished for.

But even though I performed my duties better than the others in my department, I was effectively punished for being so good.

I started working for a company founded in my area that had a reach around the world for classic auto parts.

Expanding into new services isn’t always good.

Sure, we had supplier issues, shipping delays, you name it. But the reputation of this company for being such a large source of hard-to-find car parts – from Model-T and A Fords all the way up to modern muscle cars and everything in between.

One of the brilliant minds in the management team decided to purchase a new sales/parts/service program for us, and it went downhill from there.

This type of confusion can cost a lot of money.

Where one program would say we had 10 pieces of one item, inventory would say we had none, and where our accounting program would say a vendor was due payment, another would say nothing was owed.

No one really knew what was going on until after the culprit manager had left with a hefty severance package.

So, they got bought out by a big company.

We started losing business, customers, vendors … and I – as a case manager – had to field calls daily trying to give whatever company line I was told to give to make the customers happy.

We had a high turn-over rate because of this and the company almost went bankrupt. Enter Big Auto Parts (name changed for reasons), and BAP came in with promises to fix everything.

Things worked out well for this guy.

They did, for the most part. They paid off vendors, closed out accounts, worked to repair bad relationships with everyone, and let go 60% of the staff from the building in my town. Sad, yes, but unfortunately that’s the price of business.

About 6 months after the merger, I was promoted to Customer Operations Specialist. I no longer took calls, but I had to make them for any number of reasons.

Seems like a pretty good system.

When I started this new position, there was another person there (I’ll call her Lucy) as well. We had different duties in the same department – I would research the issue that came up and she would call the customer to work out a solution.

For a quick example, if an item they ordered was out of stock or delayed, I would find a different part or call the supplier for an ETA. This would go to Lucy and she would call to ask the customer if they wanted to wait or accept a comparable item.

So, now he has to do double the work.

It only took three weeks for Lucy to decide she didn’t fit in and left the company. This left a big hole to fill, and because I was used to calling customers, I was asked to do double duty.

It worked out surprisingly well because I was already familiar with the situations and could make better suggestions while on the phone with the customers.

I’m shocked he got a raise.

My supervisor did recognize my success and put me in for a small raise, which I did get. I was making good money doing something I really enjoyed.

The company started growing, and with it, more work needed to be done by everyone. We had a ticket system that, while not perfect, was adequate.

Knowing how to respond to problems is always important.

Occasionally there would be a hiccup in the system and hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of irrelevant tickets would come across my desk.

I started noticing patterns and would call them out to my supervisor so someone with a higher pay scale than I could fix the underlying issue and we could all go home happy at the end of the day.

Sometimes, exceptional performance can actually hurt you.

Part of this growth meant that there were some areas in my department that would get too many tickets for the assigned person to handle solo, so I was asked to cross-train and learn these other areas.

It didn’t take long and soon I was doing other people’s jobs better than them. I think it was a combination of me wanting to succeed and them wanting to do the bare minimum – and this plays into my malicious compliance near the end of this story.

Getting extra pay for solving problems is a real perk.

We had a point system that tracked how many tickets we worked, how long we spent on them, and whether the ticket needed a follow up or could be closed as satisfied.

The majority of my tickets could be closed because of one reason or another and I always hit the metrics asked in order to secure a weekly bonus of $2.50 more per hour.

He isn’t having any trouble at all.

Meeting my bonus put me at above the $20 per hour range every week with very few exceptions, so I was satisfied thinking I was doing a good job.

They required me to make a minimum of 200 calls to customers and pass 2400 points to make the bonus, and every week, I would make between 300-500 calls and hit nearly 7000 points.

Enjoying your job is a real blessing.

In my youth, I got a degree from a local community college in video production and that has always been my passion, but I was good at my current job and happy to be there.

I got to take bi-annual trips to the corporate office (spring and winter) up north, made lots of friends, and even the owners of the company knew me by name due to my performance.

This sounds like a great opportunity.

My wife had changed jobs and was working for the local sheriff, and one day she emailed me that there was an opening in the media department.

I applied and went through the 3 month process for possible employment, letting my current employer know they would be receiving a background check call. The process went smoothly, even resulting in me getting a call from the Sheriff himself saying he was excited that I had applied.

Are they actually upset that he is performing really well?

Back to my current company – I had been “talked to” several times about my numbers, with my supervisor telling me they were “too high” and “no one else makes nearly that amount of points.”

When I said I was just following the metrics and doing my job, he let me know that changes were coming.

This new system makes no sense at all.

On the day I received my call from the Sheriff about being accepted as a new employee, I had a meeting with my supervisor.

Before I could tell him I was leaving, he announced that a new point system was going to be implemented and if my current week’s numbers were applied to the new schedule, my 7000 points would only equal 1800 – far below the minimum for the bonus.

He is lucky that he is leaving before this becomes a problem.

When I mentioned this was essentially punishing good performance, he said, “well, that’s what the company wants to do.”

As I said earlier, the bonus put me above the $20 per hour line. My new job was going to start me above what I was making with the bonus, which made my decision to hand in my two weeks notice right then and there so much easier.

Why are some companies so awful to their employees?

What cemented my decision was when I found out that even though I was going to finish my scheduled 40 hour work week on a Friday, since the end of the pay week was Saturday and I wasn’t working that day, I wouldn’t get the comp-time I earned.

They were going to withhold earned sick and vacation time because of a technicality, after four years of faithful service.

Finally, he is going to be doing the bare minimum.

I actually liked my supervisor – he was younger than my married son and was disabled – a good kid with a great heart, but hated that he had to follow “procedure” in punishing hard work.

I told him as much and mentioned that I would do what my original job description required, and nothing more, for my last two weeks.

Being familiar with the policies is going to be very helpful here.

It was glorious. We could take time off (if we had vacation or sick time available) if our work was done and we had nothing else to do for the rest of the day.

I focused only on my originally assigned areas and once completed I would clock out – putting in my comp time to make up for not being on the clock.

How can anyone be surprised that when they punish good performance, good performance goes down?

I was able to use up all my time by my last day there, and because I wasn’t helping anyone else, their work began to stack up. Not that I was doing it to punish any of the friends I made at that company, but simply to get the point across.

I could still see every ticket menu in all the areas where I had access, and their numbers began to climb out of control.

This guy is done doing what is good for the company, only to get punished for it in the process.

I was contacted by my supervisor’s boss on more than one occasion, asking me to help out.

And when I would point out that it wouldn’t be fare to take points away from the other people when I was about to leave, and that per policy, I was done with my assigned duties and could therefore leave for the rest of the day, he would stammer, trying to convince me to “do what was good for the company.”

They may never get fully caught up.

I simply said, “I’m doing what is good for me. Unless you can offer me more than what the Sheriff is willing to pay, I will only do what I am paid to do here until my last day.”

On my last day, I checked the ticket queue once again before signing off. My area had zero tickets, and others where I worked that would average maybe ten open or unworked tickets daily, now showed hundreds.

Now that’s what I call a happy ending.

What made me feel better was about six months after I left, I got a Facebook message from one of my old coworkers that I actually liked wishing me a Merry Christmas and telling me they still had not found anyone who could do as much as I had done.

But I am happy where I am and have plans to do this as long as I can, retiring one day after a long tenure here.

It never made sense to me why a company would take steps to discourage the best performers. It always ends up backfiring on them, but it won’t stop them from trying.

He really played this out perfectly.

This really is the way many companies operate. And they wonder why the best employees leave.

The crazy thing here is that the company won’t likely change the policy. They will simply blame the employees and wonder why things are going downhill.

I just hope that this guy has a great career with the sheriff’s office and never even thinks about coming back to this job.

Well, this is one way to handle a crazy neighbor…

Folks, we see a lot of stories about awful neighbors, but this one is totally WILD.

We think you’ll be impressed…and you might even be inspired in your own crazy neighbor experiences.

A man talked about how he handled a neighbor who was driving him and his dad up the wall.

Check out what went down!

The saga of the old man and the drone, or how I may have inadvertently led to the demise of my dad’s neighbor from hell.

“My dad (70s) has had many vocations including Air Force service, car sales, acting in Hollywood, CFO of a company.

He ultimately “retired” into residential development buying worn down houses with big lots remodeling the main house and partitioning them into separate lots, sometimes building houses or selling the lots outright.

He does most of the work himself and lives in the houses with my stepmom while he is working on them.

He found a great opportunity to turn two old houses owned by the same family into many lots by extending a road and got it approved by the city.

He worked hard on this!

This was to be the final project before true retirement and they spent every last dollar and line of credit to get it going that they had.

During the purchase and survey it was discovered that half of the dirt driveway for one of the neighbors (80s m) on one side was actually part of dad’s property.

It wasn’t a big deal at all and he offered to give the land to the existing fence, which was set back from the road quite a bit, including the half of the driveway to the neighbor as a gesture of goodwill.

This guy…

For some reason this incensed the neighbor, he didn’t agree about the current boundaries and hired his own survey, which completely agreed with ours. He still didn’t want to take the land because he thought he should somehow get more of their yard.

He was also quite upset about the new road which was not connected to his property at all and went through the middle of the two houses my dad had purchased.

My parents were living in the house next to his while remodeling it when this was all going on and he made it his life’s mission to harass them and be as annoying as possible.

What a jerk!

He would wake up at 6 am and make noise in the yard right next to their bedroom window on the land that he would have been gifted if he had just agreed to get free land. Leaf blowers, chain saws, riding mower etc.

They just dealt with it and didn’t escalate or try to get him in trouble. He spread nasty rumors around the neighborhood and tried to start group to challenge the new road.

He had his biker son ride his loud bike around, and at one point the son threatened my dad. Whenever they were working in the yard he would just stand out there and stare at them and flip them off or make noise.

He would also watch my stepmom in through the bathroom window while she showered and they had to add a hedge for privacy.

I was laid off around when Covid hit and ended up moving into the second house in the middle of all of this drama. I was concerned about the crazy old man next door to them but they just continued to ignore him.

And he’s also a psycho!

They finally got the road built and he escalated. He would drive up and down the new road multiple times a day at like 5 mph and just stare at the houses flipping off anyone who saw him.

He called city code enforcement so much they stopped responding to the calls and my dad was on a first name basis will all the inspectors.

My parents were still of the opinion that while he was annoying he was just an old man with nothing better to do and not a real threat so they continued to put up with the harassment. Then one day he had his sons come over to the property and threatens to assault us for our “harassment” of him.

He had been lying to them about what was going on and it nearly got physical until the police were involved. Nobody was charged but they recommended we get cameras to document the harassment and move forward legally.

I set up multiple cameras watching the road, the front of the houses and the part of the yard he would make noise in. The behavior continued to escalate and I ended up with lots of videos of him slowly driving, flipping us off and just being a menace.

This was beyond the point of scary.

He started to park along side of one of the houses by some bushes and just watch it for hours at a time. He might have been doing this since the road was built and we didn’t notice until the cameras were set up and I saw his car go back as that area was not covered by a camera.

He often had something black in his hand while driving but I never got a clear picture of it, it may have been a firearm and I didn’t want to get too close to get a better picture.

This pattern of slowly driving down the road and observing the house from the side continued and I think he thought he was being sneaky since we didn’t react but I put another camera hidden there and was just building up more evidence of the harassment.

One day I was just sick of it and thought I’m gonna show you that we can see you there you’re not being sneaky at all.

It was time to fight fire with fire.

I had a drone, a black one which looked kinda like something Batman would use, and I flew it over to his car to take pics.

When I saw him looking at it I turned it from side to side like it was shaking its head no. He freaked out and sped off, for the next two weeks he wasn’t seen driving down the road at all.

Afterwards we see the son’s cleaning out the house and getting it ready to sell. We weren’t sure if he had moved or what until a neighbor confirmed that he had passed away.

I can’t say for certain the drone scared the life out of him but it probably didn’t help. His sons ended up selling and the new owners gladly took the gift of the land.

They sold some of the lots, the house next to his and are almost finished with construction of their final home, the project was a major success and they can retire in peace.”

Vegetarians can be a picky bunch, huh?

And they have a right to be!

But…I think we can all agree that some of them take a bit too far from time to time…

And perhaps the woman you’re going to meet in the story below falls into that category…

She went on the record and asked if she did anything wrong by refusing to eat a pizza that had meat on half of it…

Let’s see what she had to say…

AITA for being mad with my grandma?

“I’m vegetarian (F26).

I started being vegetarian last year.

The thing is my grandma (F71) go out to buy take out food, she wanted to eat Chinese food and there is no vegetarian options there, but there is a pizza in the same plaza so she bought me one.

The problem here is she didn’t buy me a vegetarian pizza, she bought me a half pepperoni, half cheese pizza, and ate all the pepperonis herself before coming home.

Not cool, Grandma!

I was mad at her because thats not vegetarian food and I’m not gonna eat and she expected that because there is no more pepperoni on It, and I told her no, she was very insistent and I very loudly told her I’m not gonna eat it.

That didn’t go well…

My whole family is on her side and told me I should apologize, but they tried to make me feel guilty, but I don’t think I do anything wrong.”
