First impressions in a neighborhood tend to stick, and this one involved a grown man having a meltdown over a rock.

A homeowner whose contractor accidentally moved a neighbor’s rock during some work on the house got an earful from the grumpy older man next door before she’d even had a proper introduction.

She stayed calm, apologized, and told him she’d appreciate not being yelled at for something she didn’t know about. Needless to say, he didn’t exactly win her over with this whole charade.

When he came back later with a calmer complaint about soil erosion from her splash block, she handled it professionally and resolved the issue.

But her mind was made up: she still didn’t want anything to do with him. Being civil when you need something isn’t the same as being a good neighbor, and she’s clear on the difference.

I don’t want any relation to my neighbor

My neighbor is a grumpy old man who spends his weekends working on his house and car.

They didn’t exactly get off on the best foot.

My first interaction with him was him having a meltdown and cussing me out because apparently one of the contractors working on our house “moved his rock.”

At first, she tried to save face.

In his tantrum, I calmly apologized and told him I was sorry, that I wasn’t clear on which rock was his and had no idea, and that I’d appreciate it if he didn’t yell at me for something I knew nothing about.

Fast forward to today — it’s raining outside and apparently our splash block beneath the water spout cuts into his property line and is eroding his soil.

This time, her neighbor seemed to have a bit more patience.

He actually explained this pretty calmly to me, and while annoying, I told him we’d get it sorted and apologized for the soil erosion.

I came back to ask some clarifying questions and he asked me if I wanted him to do it, and I said no.

I don’t like this guy from our first interaction, nor his general demeanor.

She still has some major problems with how this guy handles his social interactions.

While I appreciated the change in tone, that’s not enough for me to extend the olive branch — it’s actually the least you can do as a human to speak respectfully to someone else.

Just ranting.

I don’t want this guy’s help for anything.

She’s pretty much done chatting with him unless it’s absolutely necessary.

If he wants something actually affecting him or his property changed, we’ll do it ourselves, and then I don’t want to hear from him until the next issue he comes up with.

We never talk to him otherwise.

Bleh.

In this day and age, when you get a good deal on a purchase, it can feel too good to be true — and in this story, it kind of was.

One couple was elated to find a gorgeous piece of art that was surprisingly in their price range, so they jumped at the chance. But as the checkout process dragged on with technical difficulties and mixed messages from the salesperson about the price, the whole thing started to feel a lot less serendipitous.

WIBTAH IF I IGNORE AN EMAIL

Recently, my husband bought me an art piece on a whim while we were out doing our regular errands.

When we first saw it, we were transfixed.

The following chain of events made them feel like buying this art piece was somehow meant to be.

My husband inquired about the price and received a quote we were surprisingly comfortable with.

Understanding the cost of things nowadays and the quality of workmanship, we were surprised it was not more expensive, although the quote was not a small sum by any means either.

So we decided to jump on it.

She couldn’t have been happier with the decision.

I’m ecstatic because I rarely treat myself. I’m 8 months pregnant and haven’t been feeling my best lately, so this gave me a mental boost.

But soon, the joy starts to wear off.

The purchase process was long.

We didn’t negotiate and just wanted to give the salesperson money and go, but the shop kept having errors with their POS system, resulting in approximately a 30 to 45 minute wait just to give them our money.

Now everything was starting to fall apart.

Throughout this checkout process, the salesperson fluctuated the price of the piece through no influence of our own a couple of times, mentioning sales and other factors.

Fast forward a few hours.

Now the salesperson is trying to go back on the whole agreement.

I’m home, and I’ve already shared this purchase with close friends and family when the salesperson emails me to say they mischarged me for the wrong piece.

In fact, the piece I have is approximately 30% more expensive than what we paid, which was already at the top of what I was willing to spend.

So she decided she was done putting up with their nonsense.

They gave me the option of returning it, paying the difference, or exchanging it for the smaller piece they actually charged me for.

WIBTAH if I just ignore the email?

This business really needs to get their act together.

Sometimes a misunderstanding spirals so far out of control that nobody can believe how it started.

This college student found herself at the center of one of those situations after she decided to embroider a quote from one of her favorite science fiction stories.

The project was supposed to be a creative joke inspired by a famous speech from the book.

Unfortunately, she left her supplies and part of the unfinished quote out on a shared table while her roommate was away for the weekend.

When the roommate returned and saw the project without any context, she came to a very different conclusion.

The situation escalated so quickly that police got involved and the roommate requested an emergency move-out.

AITA For embroidering a quote I liked from a book

I (19F) was roommates with a girl (19F) in college. We weren’t friends, but we were good roommates. She’d make an effort to invite me out, and I’d clean the dorm and share the food I’d make.

At the time I was heavily into the story “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” by Harlan Ellison for roughly a year at that point.

I got into needlework and while I was teaching myself how to embroider I thought it would be funny to embroider a speech a character from the book made in a similar style to a “Live, Laugh, Love” piece.

Unfortunately, she left her stuff laying out.

Due to character limit, I can’t put the full quote but searching “AM Speech” and the book title should bring it up. For the sake of the story just know its about how much the speaker hates humanity as a whole directed at the protagonist.

Coincidentally, by the time all the supplies I needed for the project arrived, the roommate left for the weekend. Since I needed a lot of space for everything I set up shop on our communal table.

By the early Monday morning, I finished drawing the quote onto tracing paper and began getting the first few words down on the actual fabric. I left for classes and forgot to put up everything.

Then, the police contacted her.

On my way to my final class of the day, I noticed I got a voicemail. I listened to it and learned that the police wanted to get in contact with me.

After calling them back, I learned that my roommate came back from her trip and saw the project. Which from her perspective would’ve looked like the entire speech written on paper, the first six words embroidered onto cloth, and a bunch needles and string.

Since it was on our communal table, she thought it was a threat/expression of my hatred directed at her and called the police out of concern for her safety.

At this point, all she could do was cry.

I explained to the officer the aforementioned context, and I was informed that she requested a emergency move out for her own safety.

After that point, I remembered sending my now former roommate a text trying to explain the context, apologizing for leaving my stuff out like that, for making her feel unsafe, and understanding why she felt the need to leave.

Then crying on the phone for like five hours to my mom and the RA about the whole situation. She was mostly moved out on that Monday but I left for the entirety of the next day to give her the space she needed get everything else she needed.

She just wants help understanding the situation from other perspectives.

I’m posting for judgment on this situation in the hopes that I can stop pondering what ifs.

Since the only people I’ve told about this was my mom and friends who supported me, I can’t help but think that they might be biased.

Either way the judgement goes, I hope that it’ll help me get over this and allow me to get back into needlework and sci-fi stories again, since I’ve been avoiding them out of guilt from this event.

Almost all companies have websites these days, and many of them can provide customers with updates about their orders or anything else they might need to know.

What would you do if you got a phone call from a customer asking about a package delivery that she missed, hoping to be able to pick it up from the office?

That is what happened to the employee in this story, so she asked the customer what the online delivery portal said. The customer explained that it said the package was not yet back in the office.

I don’t understand why people don’t believe the information they get online. It is there to help keep them informed, but they refuse to accept it. Read on to get the full story.

I got a phone call from a customer yesterday and the following exchange happened.

Let’s see what happened, exactly.

Me: “[store name]. How may I help you?”

Customer: “I missed the delivery driver. Is my package there? Can I come pick it up?”

Ok, that seems like an easy process.

Me: “Perhaps. If you enter in the tracking number on the website, you’ll be able to see if your package is here.”

If their tracking said the package was here I would then locate it on the shelf and confirm it’s here

Hmm, if the package isn’t there, how does she expect to pick it up?

Customer: “I already did that. It says it’s not there yet”

Me: Taking a second to absorb what they had just said. “Then it’s not here and you can’t pick it up yet”

Well, at least she was polite about it, I guess.

Customer: “oh okay. Thanks”

Me: “you’re welcome and have a good day” hangs up

Some people just refuse to accept an online update. They have to hear it from a live person. Sadly, this means they are wasting people’s time, but oh well.

Any Publix fried chicken lover knows the routine.

If you don’t see their fried 8 piece chicken on the heating shelves, you ask a clerk when the next batch is coming out and they will hold it for you.

Seriously, this should not have been a discussion.

Who knew this community was this passionate?

A woman is standing squarely in front of the 4 foot shelves of chicken pulling each box of chicken out to inspect it.

I wait several minutes for her to move on.

I have pretty much determined the chicken peices are out by the boxes she has pulled out, so they must be cooking another batch.

Seems like a reasonable assumption.

I bend over from the side to look at the bottom shelf to see if any boxes of chicken are there when I hear Karen screech: “Really, I was looking at that chicken!”

I look at her and say, “Oh right, only one person can look at this chicken at a time because nobody’s time is valuable.”

She tells me I’m rude, and I tell her she’s entitled.

Not sure there was a need for the name calling.

She scuttles away.

The grinning clerk tells me they just dropped a batch and it will be ready in 15 minutes.

Perfect! Finished my shopping and picked up the chicken on the way to the checkout.

Few things feel more awkward than showing up excited to spend time with a friend, only to realize you’re basically serving as background scenery.

This woman met up with her best friend at a local fair after a busy day, looking forward to catching up and spending the evening together. At first, everything seemed fine. Then her friend’s boyfriend and several acquaintances arrived, and the dynamic shifted almost immediately.

According to OP, the conversation became centered entirely around a club they all belonged to, leaving her with little to contribute. As the group settled into their own discussion, she found herself increasingly excluded—literally standing on the outside while everyone else talked among themselves.

Yesterday, I met up with my best friend from school at a fair; she’d been there all day, but I had things to do and couldn’t arrive until the evening.

I couldn’t really join the conversation because it was exclusively about the club they all belong to.

She didn’t reply until this afternoon, saying she was sorry I hadn’t felt comfortable with them. She had been really angry that night because I just walked off, so I have no idea if the apology was sincere.

Seems suspicious.

Now I don’t know how to handle this; she’s done things like this before, but she always gets in a bad mood if I complain, claiming my behavior ruins the good vibe.

I guess she really doesn’t get why I was upset even though I tried to explain it to her but maybe I was a little too emotional for her to rake me seriously because I really looked forward to the evening and was pretty disappointed about how everything was going on.

Instead of starting an argument, making a scene, or demanding attention, she simply communicated that she felt left out and removed herself from an uncomfortable situation.

Many readers felt the bigger issue was the pattern. If you work at a toy store, you know that when a certain toy is trending, everyone seems to want it at the same time.

That is what was happening to the worker in this story when two young girls came in looking for the exact same doll, which was so popular that it was currently sold out.

Fortunately, the young girls who came into the store as strangers started bonding over their shared love of the show that the dolls were based on. Just minutes later, the moms were exchanging numbers and planning play dates.

It is wonderful how quickly kids can make friends, even over some shared bad news. Read the heartwarming story below.

Two little girls bonded over wanting the same out-of-stock babydoll and left as best friends

It was such a hilarious and heartwarming moment at my toy shop today.

What are these girls looking for?

I had two little girls come in with their mothers, almost at the exact same time, both looking to buy babydolls.

They went through all the options we had on display and both said the same thing. “It’s not here.”

This store should have what they are looking for.

I was confused because we stock some of the best quality babydolls you can find in the area.

We receive shipments directly from trusted suppliers, sometimes ordering from Alibaba, so it’s pretty rare to come across the exact same dolls we carry at another local toy shop.

Ahh, they wanted something that was out of stock.

The girls took their moms outside and pointed to our front billboard display. They said they wanted those kinds specifically.

Unfortunately, those particular dolls were already completely out of stock. They were based on a popular cartoon character, so I totally understood why the girls were so obsessed with them to the point of tears.

When something is really popular, everyone seems to want it.

It took a lot of gentle convincing from both mothers and from me to try to redirect them toward other beautiful dolls we had available.

But what was truly mind blowing was that both girls, who didn’t even know each other before walking into the shop, felt exactly the same way about that specific doll.

The girls seem to be making the most of the difficult situation.

Right then and there, something sweet happened. The two girls bonded over their shared disappointment and love for that character.

They started talking, comparing which episodes they’d watched, which other toys they had at home.

Absolutely adorable.

By the time they left, they were holding hands and had become instant friends. Even their mothers exchanged numbers so the girls could have playdates.

They didn’t get the doll they wanted, but they got something better. A new friend.

Now that is a cute story. It is wonderful how quickly kids can make friends, and I’m glad to see that the moms exchanged numbers too.

Will only just encourage more to do the same, why do people not think rules apply to them?

This is a universal issue unfortunately.

Friendships evolve over time, and sometimes the activities that once brought people together stop working the way they used to. The question is whether acknowledging that reality makes someone a bad friend.

This 21-year-old has been visiting the same amusement park with her childhood friend for years. It was a tradition they both loved and looked forward to every summer. But during their most recent trip, she noticed a significant change. Due to her friend’s weight gain, many of the rides they used to enjoy together were no longer accessible or comfortable for her. In some cases, she couldn’t fit on the rides at all. In others, she technically could, but found the restraints too uncomfortable to participate.

As a result, OP felt like much of the day revolved around figuring out what rides were still an option. Now her friend wants to go back, and OP is struggling with whether to be honest about why she’s hesitant—or simply suggest doing something else instead.

AITAH for not wanting to go to an amusement park with my friend because she is plus size?

I am 21F and have a childhood friend 22F. We live near a big amusement park in our state and every summer since we were kids we have gone to it together pretty often.

Ever since we were teens she’s been curvy/ plus size, and that’s fine by me. But recently she’s put on a lot more weight, again I don’t care about this at all, means nothing to me.

However it’s created an issue with going on the rides and attractions at the amusement park.

Interesting…

We haven’t been to the park in around a year. Our first time back was last week. When we were there I discovered that most of the rides we used to love going on, she can no longer can fit on them.

Others she can technically fit, but doesn’t want to ride them because the seatbelts feel too uncomfortable. There are very few rides left that she can go on without an issue.

Also, we went on a ride recently where two people share a bench type of seat, it was extremely uncomfortable because there wasn’t much room for me and felt like i was being crushed most of the ride, it honestly felt unsafe.

Yikes.

There’s also been an issue with her eating my food while we are there. Like for example I will buy some popcorn or something at the amusement park, she will buy her own stuff, then she asks to try mine. Usually she will eat it all if i don’t stop her.

I may get hate for this part but she sometimes gets dirty looks or pointed at when we are there together, because people are judgemental.

This makes me sad for her and just uncomfortable overall.

How awful.

She’s been asking if i wanna go to the amusement park this weekend and I really don’t see the point because we won’t be able to go on most of the rides.

I feel terrible tho and don’t know how to say i don’t want to go. Should I suggest some other activity? I feel like she will get suspicious because i love amusement parks and usually always wanted to go during past summers.

Older generations very often ridicule younger generations for not obtaining the same skill set that they were taught to have. Primarily among these are different styles of handwriting.

I work at one of those nutritional shops where people go to buy drinks and smoothies.

I was working the later shift and had to write something on the inventory whiteboard that only my coworkers and boss can see.

After which, I sent a picture of the board I had completed to my boss, which he hearted.

Sounds like this person is diligent at their job.

Now I never thought my handwriting was bad, but how I wrote on the whiteboard definitely wasn’t the best that I could do.

The next day when I come into work the whiteboard is completely erased and rewrote with all the same stuff I had on it the day before but with someone else’s handwriting.

This confused me, so I asked why it had been rewritten and they told me it was because my handwriting was really awful.

Yikes, they probably could have sugarcoated that a little bit.

I was a hurt by this comment but figured that I was just working with a bunch of perfectionists.

A few weeks go by and we run out of stickers for our cups that we sell so we have to start writing our shop name on the cup, our shop name is 20 letters long and we have to do that for over 600 cups.

They asked me to help, but I mentioned how poor my handwriting skills are and they let me opt out of writing.

Now THAT’S a blessing in disguise.

I’ve since left that job, but I thought this was a funny story and wanted to share it.

I’ll try to post a picture of my handwriting in the comments so you guys can judge if my handwriting really is that bad lol

How would you handle someone cutting you in line, then making it a bizarre flirting attempt? One guy recently shared his strange interaction with Reddit recently. Here’s what he said.

Halfway through interval at the theatre I decide to get a drink from the bar.

There’s two lines and I join the one on the right.

I look to my left to see if that line’s moving faster, and by the time I turn back a woman has jumped the queue and inserted herself in front of me.

She’s speedy AND sneaky.

I don’t have the energy to argue and decide to let it go.

Meanwhile, she’s studiously looking down at her phone to avoid making eye contact or conversation.

That should have been it, except she looks up and asks me innocently whether there was in fact a queue.

Well she told on herself pretty badly.

I replied that there was and that she knew it.

She replies with “I’m on my own”.

I was with my partner, but no way she could tell that, as far as she could see I was on my own too.

It’s simply not sound logic.

I can’t remember what I said, something along the lines of, “Whatever, but you can remain ahead of me.”

It still doesn’t satisfy her.

She follows up with “I’ve had a hard day.”

This lady is pulling out every trick in the book.

To which I replied, “Nothing to do with me”.

At which point the end of interval bells begin to ring, I give up on getting a drink, and walk away.

They had to go back to their seat both skipped and parched.

WIBTAH For Refusing To Go With My Friend To Her Ex Boyfriend’s House?

My friend Jen invited me to a birthday party last weekend. She wanted someone there with her because her ex boyfriend was attending and she was upset with him. I said sure since I was going anyway.

When the party was winding down, some people headed to her ex boyfriend’s house for an after party and she wanted me to go there with her.

I refused to go because they weren’t even on speaking terms at the party and she could just avoid all the drama by staying at the pub with me and the other people we know.

Sounds like a lot of drama.

For background, they dated twice. He broke up with her in the middle of the night last time and she had no way to get home.

Then she went back to his place to hang out as friends and each time she ends up leaving because he makes her upset.

One time was him saying he’s still in love with his other ex girlfriend and the other time was him asking her to have a threesome.

She’s been back to his place since the party, but I think it’s a stupid cycle to be in. He’s clearly giving her attention to be a friends with benefits and she wants more and won’t accept the situation for what it is.

She was driving me crazy because she kept asking me to go with her and her friends were pressuring her to go there too.

I finally got annoyed and told her she lost her mind and it’s a toxic environment and she should move on. She hasn’t spoken to me since that night. AITA?

Working the front desk at a hotel requires all sorts of ridiculous requests. Though seemingly, sometimes the more outrageous requests are less stressful to deal with than the unnecessarily complicated clerical ones.

How would you handle having to go to bat with a travel company for a simple refund? One person recently shared a frustrating story about this with Reddit. Here’s what happened.

Suxpedia doesn’t understand refunds

A guest made a reservation on Suxpedia “accidentally”.

A non-refundable reservation.

They cancelled it almost immediately, which is within the grace period.

Sounds like they were likely in the clear then?

But Suxpedia already charged the guests’ card.

So now, Suxpedia is asking for a refund.

I told them that the virtual card hasn’t been charged, so there is nothing to refund and the cancellation has to be approved by the GM tomorrow morning after 11 AM to be classified as no-penalty.

Seems like it’s out of their hands.

So the guest decided: “If we can’t get a refund we might as well go” so they are now trying to un-cancel their reservation.

But appearently Suxpedia can not reinstate a cancelled reservation.

The guest has to make a new reservation.

This is a total headache.

So Suxpedia is asking for a refund once again.

And I keep telling them there is nothing to refund.

That the virtual card hasn’t been charged yet.

It’s a pretty simple concept.

They hit me with “but the guest has been charged”.

BY YOU!!! YOU are the one who charged the guest… I am supposed to charge you, but I haven’t.

This must have been a wildly stressful phone call.

So you can void your virtual card and refund the guest without my approval…

Or just make a new reservation and transfer the guest’s payment to the new reservation…

BUT NOOO… they have to cancel and refund the guest so the guest can be charged again… for the same reservation…

God forbid hospitality companies make any of their policies simple.
