Safety is definitely important on a job site, especially on a construction site. While following safety procedures can sometimes be annoying, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

But in this story, one safety officer abuses his power to try to get the employees to support his drug habit. He gets away with it for a while, but eventually one employee comes up with a plan to get evidence and get him fired.

Job site scum finally gets what he deserves

This story occurred a little over a year ago while working for a heavy construction company out of north carolina.

They had a guy who ensured we followed safety protocol, and essentially had his word over anyone. Meaning if he saw something that was unsafe, he had the authority to stop work.

We all agree to what he has to say even though its a pain in the but because osha fines are ridiculous and the cost of life is even more.

This guy deserves to be fired.

However…. This guy, constantly abuses his power on the job site. Threatening employees with write ups if they didn’t do certain illegal favors for him. Such as buying him weed, pills, anything he could get his hands on.

He was a jerk. Not only would he out employees in really uncomfortable situations. We were all drug tested by this guy routinely, and he knew at least those of us who pass time and time again did not do this stuff.

Moreover, he had ridiculed me on the jobsite in front of everyone one day and nothing happened. He made fun of me for an hour and a half till i finally flipped on him and got suspended for two weeks cause he was secretly videoing me.

He only showed the portion of the video where i told him to ____ off and flicked him off.

He decided to turn the tables.

One day he tries this junkie crap with me because I had hopped into a machine and had not filled out the inspection sheet.

The machine was not on, and its bucket was on the ground.

To fill out these inspection sheets, you must be in the machine to check your gauges, steering, etcetera, and its standard protocol.

I turn on my phones recorder out of his visual field as i’m about 5 feet up above him in the drivers seat. I recorded everything he said.

He had the proof he needed.

He threatened me with immediate dismissal for doing my job, saying “looks like you were out of the machine, with it running bucket in the air, your inspection sheet is not filled out, and I really don’t know what we’re going to do here… he then smiles and says clear as hell on the recording. If you get me half ounce of good weed, this won’t go any further. But this is looking like you are fired. You have till the end of the week or i’m filing the report.

I met up with my direct supervisor who also despised this guy and we devised a plan. Tell him i’ll have it to him on Thursday at a gas station a few miles from the job site.

Meanwhile. I was to stay out of visual field while my supervisor sat in my car. Had tinted windows and you could see someone in the car but couldn’t see any features whatsoever.

This guy would get into the car and his boss would be sitting in the driver seat of my car!

It worked out well for everyone except the awful safety officer.

It worked perfectly, he was told that this recording was more than enough to ruin his entire life. But that losing everything in his company account before being fully vested was more than enough. Also that he should not bother collecting his things at the site, because.. as per contract all work badges are to be taken upon dismissal. And since he was not dismissed at work. He had no way of getting through the gate of this place.

Not sure if they mailed or gave anything back to him.

But everyone on the site was so much happier with our new safety officer. He understands production and safety and has a good medium. He’ll work with you. And, he’s not a complete junkie in charge of drug testing people anymore.

I love how his supervisor plotted with him to fire the safety officer when he wasn’t at work.

While HOAs are awful, it’s even worse when you don’t know what the HOA rules are. How are you supposed to follow all of their picky rules if you don’t even have the option of reading the bylaws? You basically wouldn’t know you were violating a rule until the HOA slapped you with a fine.

What makes this situation extra annoying is that the person who wrote this story is a renter who didn’t realize they were renting a house in an HOA until after moving in.

Whoever the heck HOA member had my car towed is going to wish they didn’t mess with me.

Living in a rental. We weren’t actually told we are part of an HOA.

Never received the CC&Rs. We’ve asked. Still haven’t gotten them.

Tonight, I parked my car behind our rental – well, adjacent – on a length of grass at 930pm.

People park here all the time.

Went to see Spider-Man, which was great btw, and then came back after the movie was over to some witch (an HOA board member) had my car towed at 11:30pm.

He does not think this is fair at all.

We have a cul de sac parking lot that states “move every 72 hours or be towed.”

Some car has been parked there for over 2 months hogging 1 of the spots.

Today, there were an excessive amount of parkers all over our street. And my car that is parked adjacent to my rental is freaking towed after being there for 2 freaking hours.

I’m about to throw hands.

Living in an HOA is bad enough, but when you’re renting, it’s even worse because renters don’t always know the bylaws since the landlord is technically the one responsible.

If I were him, I’d move.

I’ve tried to hide it from him before but then I end up just forgetting about it myself so I went back to just leaving it in my purse.

In the last 3 months since I’ve been home from uni he’s stolen over 150 dollars from my wallet, as well as earbuds and full cans of alcohol that I left in the fridge.

I’m broke and trying to save money for school, so I work hard for the money I make. Any money or anything that I buy myself is pretty important to me no matter what it is.

My parents say it’s my fault because I should be hiding my stuff better but its frustrating to have to hide my own things in my own room.

I want to ask them if they could pay me back all the money that he’s taken, even though it’s not there fault, but every dollar counts for my savings. Idk what I should do.

First, I’d get a lock for the bedroom door. Second, her brother is a thief! He needs to pay her back. She shouldn’t have to lock up her belongings in her own bedroom! Home should be a safe place.

Some neighbors are annoying. Others make you question whether moving somewhere new was a mistake in the first place.

That’s the situation one family found themselves in after settling into their parents’ retirement home in a remote English hamlet.

At my previous job, I always arrived about 10-15 minutes early to get settled in, get my computer up and running, log into all my mail and accounts, pull up all my tabs, and whatnot.

It took my computer about 10 minutes or so to boot up and get up to speed.

One morning, I arrived at work about 5 minutes early instead of my usual 10 minutes. I guess I scuttled up the stairs to make sure I was up and running by 8 — that is, to make sure I was at the desk with my computer on by 7:55 at the latest.

Not 10 minutes later, my boss’s boss — not my direct supervisor — comes over and says he saw me jogging through the parking lot. He asks me, in that underhanded-confrontational way when one knows the answer already, if I was late that morning.

Here’s where the big boss messed up.

I explain just as I have in this post. He says, “Oh, okay,” and that’s that.

I look at the clock. It’s like 8:02. I think to myself, “Oh … so that’s what kind of person you are. Got it.”

If you want me to arrive on time, I will.

In the long run, it cost the company a lot more than two minutes.

From then on, I go about my business, still arriving at the usual time, 7:50 or so, but instead of setting up, I just set my stuff down and — oh, what a nice morning outside, I think I might take a little walk around the office park for 10 minutes or so.

Maybe I might go down to the lobby and get a cup of coffee or something. Maybe I might sit at my desk on my phone — after all, it’s not technically business hours yet, right?

THEN, at exactly 8, I’ll turn everything on and let my computer spend the next 10 minutes booting up and get logged in.

I did the math. Two minutes late would’ve “cost” the company 63 cents. I continued to work there for six more months before I got a better (salaried) job elsewhere, doing the same thing every morning.

Context- new neighbour moved in, she was nice enough at first- but she has a serious problem with how she handles garbage days.

Teaching teenagers financial responsibility should not mean taking every dollar they earn. A 16-year-old’s part-time job gradually became a source of household income for his father and stepmother.

Jayden’s Dad and I divorced 10 years ago when Jayden was 6. I’m still single while Jayden’s dad has remarried to his wife (36F.)

Jayden has lived with his Dad and Stepmom on weekdays and me on the weekends since he started High School 2 years since his school is much closer to his Dad’s house.

Jayden mainly goes to school, plays football with his friends and work part time at the local McDonald’s.

Being honest, neither Jayden’s Dad nor I make a lot of money. We both live comfortably but we certainly can’t afford luxuries.

When he got his job I found out that Jayden’s Dad and Stepmom were making him give them money for bills.

I didn’t care at the time, its teaching him financial responsibility was my only thought.

They were taking almost all of his money!

Come to find out there were taking up to 70% of his check which made Jayden upset.

That did me upset as well. Yes, Jayden is still a kid and should help out from time to time but he works so hard and deserves more of his own money.

I talked to his Dad who promised to make a budget with Jayden that would please both of them.

I hoped this would this would fix the issue.

It got worse.

That conversation was a 3 months ago.

Today Jayden told me that they have been taking 100% of his paychecks. A quick look at his account confirmed this.

Jayden also told me that whenever he tries to set limits with his Dad or Stepmom they guilt him by saying things like “I helped bring you into this world the least you can do is help me out. (From his dad.)”

And “you’re not my child but I let you let live with me anyway. (From his Stepmom.)”

She was not okay with this and decided a big change was necessary.

I really don’t like this behavior from those two. That kind of talk seems like manipulation and it makes me uncomfortable.

I told Jayden that I wanted him to live with me for the remainder of the school year away from his Dad and Stepmom.

He’s old enough to the point where the courts can’t force anything and he agreed.

They followed through with moving Jayden out of his dad’s place.

We went to his Dad’s place to get some of his things and to tell that Jayden was moving.

They helped us get some of his stuff but instead of handing it to us they’d throw it. Not a hard throw but still off putting.

We left the house with Jayden’s things and went home.

While I do feel justified I do have seconds thoughts about removing Jayden from his Dad like that. Even if he agreed. AITA?

There’s no point in Jayden having a job for fun money to go out with his friends if his dad is taking all of his money!

She was right to move him out of his dad’s house.

A new lawyer found herself fielding an increasingly invasive string of questions from a young coworker, ranging from mortgage details to income estimates to how she and her husband split household finances, all disguised as casual “getting-to-know-you” conversation.

Coworker extremely nosy about my finances

My (36F) coworker (28F) added me on social media and has been constantly asking about my finances. I’m a new lawyer and she’s a receptionist at the company and has started by making small talk.

The first week was fine and she asked questions to get to know me.

But these questions have since escalated significantly.

She has since asked many questions that make me uncomfortable such as:

1. Do I rent or own?
2. How much is my mortgage?
3. Do my husband and I split mortgage/finances?
4. How do we split (50/50, 60/40 etc, genuine thing she asked)
5. How often we vacation
6. How we afford to vacation so much (as she saw posts on my social media)
7. What car I drive
8. Roughly the range for my income, I said “I don’t know” and she said to estimate

This lawyer is starting to feel extremely uncomfortable by all this.

I told my husband and he agreed she is very intrusive and we are both uncomfortable with these questions, so I’ve since removed her from social media. We work in a smaller law firm so I know she will notice right away and want to know what to say while still being professional.

Then there’s the unsolicited advice.

She also tries to give financial advice. Told me I should sell my car and take public transport because she does and saves money, told me I shouldn’t vacation over Christmas or it will “make me look unreliable” when my vacation days were already approved by management.

I do not want drama because otherwise she seems nice and has asked me to hang out (I definitely will not) but don’t want tension going forward at work.

This colleague needs to take several steps back.

I tried to email back to ask when roughly today they’d be by and who’d be entering the apt bc it was possible I wouldn’t be home, but it was from an account that doesn’t accept replies.

The inspectors came by earlier, but it turns out that they weren’t inspecting the apartments for storm damage specifically, but looking at the general condition of the apartments because they represent a company looking to buy the building.

Well, if you really want to know…

I cooperated fully and answered all their questions, which included telling them how the fire alarm system goes off randomly and did four times in the first two weeks I was here, how there are electrical issues that cause one of my lights and my microwave to randomly stop functioning, how the walls are so thin that I can hear the subway/the people at the bar a few buildings down/my neighbor.

He didn’t hold back!

They also asked me about my general experience here and I told them that I’m leaving the day my lease is up, and that I could never imagine someone living in this building longer than their one year lease, if that long.

I included that when I raised the possibility of moving out in my first month the current owners offered to give me all my money back, including application fees, so that they were most likely used people moving in and abruptly moving out.

It was pretty satisfying to watch the lead guy’s wheels turning as he most likely lowered the bid for the building in his mind.

I don’t think it was all me, because talking to the tenants here must have involved a lot of negative comments, but I’m glad for the role I played in it because the current owners are terrible.”

AITA for kicking my parents out of my home on my dad’s birthday?

I (30F) am an only child to my parents (61M & 60F).

Since I moved out on my own, my parents blatantly disregard my boundaries.

The violations range from small (like cleaning something I asked them not to) to large (going through my trash, drywalling a wall when I wasn’t present, driving three hours and showing up to my home unannounced, etc.).

It sounds like some serious boundaries need to be established right away.

Father and I have difficulty seeing eye to eye sometimes, but I speak with Mother multiple times a day.

My parents visited for my Father’s birthday. Father asked if he could help me with laundry to which I asked him to please not touch my laundry.

Father proceeded to begin my laundry anyway.

When I found out about this, I asked Mother in a very reasonable and logical tone, “What can I do or say to get you both to respect my boundaries in the future? Because clearly the way that I have expressed them has not been working.”

He is way out of line here.

Father heard me say this and said I was ungrateful and lazy.

At this point, I went outside to cool off.

Fast forward to when I come back inside, Mother states that she sees it from both perspectives and that I’m overreacting because it’s just laundry.

I try to explain to her that if this was a one time boundary violation then I wouldn’t be putting my foot down.

Maybe it wasn’t ideal timing, but it never is. She had to put her foot down.

She then began to say that I am ungrateful as well and that Father deserves some “grace.”

I couldn’t hold it in any longer and asked them to leave my home.

Mother began to tell me how rude it was to Father that I was kicking them out on his birthday.

I do think as a standalone incident this would’ve been an overreaction, but this has come at the heels of multiple violations on previous visits that have built up.

There will always be a reason not to put your foot down, so eventually you have do to it or you’ll keep getting walked all over forever.

Talk about a punch in the gut!

I understand that office politics can shape how things play out at a company, but what the heck ever happened to loyalty?

I have a feeling that’s what the guy who wrote this story has been asking himself over and over again.

Take a look at why he feels like he got stabbed in the back by a co-worker who he helped out tremendously.

Got betrayed by my colleague right after they got promoted to a management position.

“I am a senior in what I do, I’m a hardcore anti capitalist, and I deeply distrust corporate and management for a variety of valid reasons.

Here is my recent experience. I hope after reading it you don’t repeat my mistake.

Three years ago, a new colleague joined our team as an intern I took her under my wing, mentored her, and helped her resolve every technical issue she faced.

He went above and beyond…

Most importantly, I gave her 100% emotional and professional support whenever our manager put her under extreme pressure I even went out of my way to fix her mistakes to protect her and taught her to prioritize her wellbeing over productivity.

Over those three years she learned about my far left political leanings, so as so I once told her that corporations do not care about either of us, so we worker need to stick together and look out for each other (by that I meant I would always support those who is targeted by corporate management).

Eventually, she told me she had been offered a promotion to project manager she admitted she felt uncomfortable taking it because I deserved it more than her and that she lacked the experience and certificate to do the job.

Go for it!

And as strange as it might sounds that she had been hand picked by the very same senior project manager who used to give her hard time, so of course I instantly told her and without any hesitation “I’m happy to have you as my project manager, you will do great, and will do the right things, I support change and progress”.

Oh, boy, that didn’t work out…

One month later, right before starting her first project, she removed both me and another left leaning colleague from the entire business unit.

Her excuse was that she felt and I quote her “I saw that you weren’t happy, so I wanted to help you by not including you in this new project”.

Now, I am stuck waiting, fully expecting to be fired since they are revoked my work from home agreement and are using other mobbing tactics against me so that I quit willingly.

The lesson I learned from this is that liberal colleagues are not your friends.”

So my Dad recently decided to get life insurance after a near death incident.

He put two of my other siblings and myself (30M) as the beneficiaries, but the thing is, we have to make the payments.

Why does Dad think he is doing them a favor now?

Now, he’s never really contributed to me financially growing up (he even mentioned that the last time he was able to buy me a school shoe was when I was ten a few years back).

This was mainly because he was unemployed and unable to do so.

He’s also never been financially stable and I’ve had to give him money multiple times when I first started working at 16.

Do what? Force his son to pay for an insurance policy he doesn’t want?

Now when he decided to get the insurance, he sat me down and said that since he hasn’t done much for me he’d like to do “at least this.”

But I don’t necessarily see this as something he’s doing for me.

I’m not sure Dad knows how life insurance works.

It may sound harsh but, the only thing that benefits me is his death. I feel that as a parent he should 100% be the one to make the payments or maybe even half?

He also kinda threw his hands up like it’s up to us and that if we don’t make the payments, we lose out.

I’ve said that this isn’t really a win situation for me (or my siblings), but now I’m being called a jerk for thinking like this. Am I really?
