If you work at a toy store, you know that when a certain toy is trending, everyone seems to want it at the same time.

That is what was happening to the worker in this story when two young girls came in looking for the exact same doll, which was so popular that it was currently sold out.

Fortunately, the young girls who came into the store as strangers started bonding over their shared love of the show that the dolls were based on. Just minutes later, the moms were exchanging numbers and planning play dates.

It is wonderful how quickly kids can make friends, even over some shared bad news. Read the heartwarming story below.

Two little girls bonded over wanting the same out-of-stock babydoll and left as best friends

It was such a hilarious and heartwarming moment at my toy shop today.

What are these girls looking for?

I had two little girls come in with their mothers, almost at the exact same time, both looking to buy babydolls.

They went through all the options we had on display and both said the same thing. “It’s not here.”

This store should have what they are looking for.

I was confused because we stock some of the best quality babydolls you can find in the area.

We receive shipments directly from trusted suppliers, sometimes ordering from Alibaba, so it’s pretty rare to come across the exact same dolls we carry at another local toy shop.

Ahh, they wanted something that was out of stock.

The girls took their moms outside and pointed to our front billboard display. They said they wanted those kinds specifically.

Unfortunately, those particular dolls were already completely out of stock. They were based on a popular cartoon character, so I totally understood why the girls were so obsessed with them to the point of tears.

When something is really popular, everyone seems to want it.

It took a lot of gentle convincing from both mothers and from me to try to redirect them toward other beautiful dolls we had available.

But what was truly mind blowing was that both girls, who didn’t even know each other before walking into the shop, felt exactly the same way about that specific doll.

The girls seem to be making the most of the difficult situation.

Right then and there, something sweet happened. The two girls bonded over their shared disappointment and love for that character.

They started talking, comparing which episodes they’d watched, which other toys they had at home.

Absolutely adorable.

By the time they left, they were holding hands and had become instant friends. Even their mothers exchanged numbers so the girls could have playdates.

They didn’t get the doll they wanted, but they got something better. A new friend.

Now that is a cute story. It is wonderful how quickly kids can make friends, and I’m glad to see that the moms exchanged numbers too.

Friendships evolve over time, and sometimes the activities that once brought people together stop working the way they used to. The question is whether acknowledging that reality makes someone a bad friend.

This 21-year-old has been visiting the same amusement park with her childhood friend for years. It was a tradition they both loved and looked forward to every summer. But during their most recent trip, she noticed a significant change. Due to her friend’s weight gain, many of the rides they used to enjoy together were no longer accessible or comfortable for her. In some cases, she couldn’t fit on the rides at all. In others, she technically could, but found the restraints too uncomfortable to participate.

As a result, OP felt like much of the day revolved around figuring out what rides were still an option. Now her friend wants to go back, and OP is struggling with whether to be honest about why she’s hesitant—or simply suggest doing something else instead.

I am 21F and have a childhood friend 22F. We live near a big amusement park in our state and every summer since we were kids we have gone to it together pretty often.

Ever since we were teens she’s been curvy/ plus size, and that’s fine by me. But recently she’s put on a lot more weight, again I don’t care about this at all, means nothing to me.

However it’s created an issue with going on the rides and attractions at the amusement park.

We haven’t been to the park in around a year. Our first time back was last week. When we were there I discovered that most of the rides we used to love going on, she can no longer can fit on them.

Others she can technically fit, but doesn’t want to ride them because the seatbelts feel too uncomfortable. There are very few rides left that she can go on without an issue.

Also, we went on a ride recently where two people share a bench type of seat, it was extremely uncomfortable because there wasn’t much room for me and felt like i was being crushed most of the ride, it honestly felt unsafe.

Yikes.

There’s also been an issue with her eating my food while we are there. Like for example I will buy some popcorn or something at the amusement park, she will buy her own stuff, then she asks to try mine. Usually she will eat it all if i don’t stop her.

I may get hate for this part but she sometimes gets dirty looks or pointed at when we are there together, because people are judgemental.

This makes me sad for her and just uncomfortable overall.

How awful.

She’s been asking if i wanna go to the amusement park this weekend and I really don’t see the point because we won’t be able to go on most of the rides.

I feel terrible tho and don’t know how to say i don’t want to go. Should I suggest some other activity? I feel like she will get suspicious because i love amusement parks and usually always wanted to go during past summers.

Older generations very often ridicule younger generations for not obtaining the same skill set that they were taught to have. Primarily among these are different styles of handwriting.

How would you handle your coworkers treating you coldly because of your handwriting that you can’t control?  One guy recently shared a silly example with Reddit of how he was able to weaponize his handwriting to his advantage. Here’s what he said.

Having “bad handwriting”

I work at one of those nutritional shops where people go to buy drinks and smoothies.

I was working the later shift and had to write something on the inventory whiteboard that only my coworkers and boss can see.

After which, I sent a picture of the board I had completed to my boss, which he hearted.

Sounds like this person is diligent at their job.

Now I never thought my handwriting was bad, but how I wrote on the whiteboard definitely wasn’t the best that I could do.

The next day when I come into work the whiteboard is completely erased and rewrote with all the same stuff I had on it the day before but with someone else’s handwriting.

This confused me, so I asked why it had been rewritten and they told me it was because my handwriting was really awful.

Yikes, they probably could have sugarcoated that a little bit.

I was a hurt by this comment but figured that I was just working with a bunch of perfectionists.

A few weeks go by and we run out of stickers for our cups that we sell so we have to start writing our shop name on the cup, our shop name is 20 letters long and we have to do that for over 600 cups.

They asked me to help, but I mentioned how poor my handwriting skills are and they let me opt out of writing.

Now THAT’S a blessing in disguise.

I’ve since left that job, but I thought this was a funny story and wanted to share it.

Halfway through interval at the theatre I decide to get a drink from the bar.

There’s two lines and I join the one on the right.

I look to my left to see if that line’s moving faster, and by the time I turn back a woman has jumped the queue and inserted herself in front of me.

She’s speedy AND sneaky.

I don’t have the energy to argue and decide to let it go.

Meanwhile, she’s studiously looking down at her phone to avoid making eye contact or conversation.

That should have been it, except she looks up and asks me innocently whether there was in fact a queue.

Well she told on herself pretty badly.

I replied that there was and that she knew it.

She replies with “I’m on my own”.

I was with my partner, but no way she could tell that, as far as she could see I was on my own too.

It’s simply not sound logic.

I can’t remember what I said, something along the lines of, “Whatever, but you can remain ahead of me.”

It still doesn’t satisfy her.

She follows up with “I’ve had a hard day.”

This lady is pulling out every trick in the book.

To which I replied, “Nothing to do with me”.

At which point the end of interval bells begin to ring, I give up on getting a drink, and walk away.

They had to go back to their seat both skipped and parched.

Working the front desk at a hotel requires all sorts of ridiculous requests. Though seemingly, sometimes the more outrageous requests are less stressful to deal with than the unnecessarily complicated clerical ones.

How would you handle having to go to bat with a travel company for a simple refund? One person recently shared a frustrating story about this with Reddit. Here’s what happened.

Suxpedia doesn’t understand refunds

A guest made a reservation on Suxpedia “accidentally”.

A non-refundable reservation.

They cancelled it almost immediately, which is within the grace period.

Sounds like they were likely in the clear then?

But Suxpedia already charged the guests’ card.

So now, Suxpedia is asking for a refund.

I told them that the virtual card hasn’t been charged, so there is nothing to refund and the cancellation has to be approved by the GM tomorrow morning after 11 AM to be classified as no-penalty.

Seems like it’s out of their hands.

So the guest decided: “If we can’t get a refund we might as well go” so they are now trying to un-cancel their reservation.

But appearently Suxpedia can not reinstate a cancelled reservation.

The guest has to make a new reservation.

This is a total headache.

So Suxpedia is asking for a refund once again.

And I keep telling them there is nothing to refund.

That the virtual card hasn’t been charged yet.

It’s a pretty simple concept.

They hit me with “but the guest has been charged”.

BY YOU!!! YOU are the one who charged the guest… I am supposed to charge you, but I haven’t.

This must have been a wildly stressful phone call.

So you can void your virtual card and refund the guest without my approval…

Or just make a new reservation and transfer the guest’s payment to the new reservation…

BUT NOOO… they have to cancel and refund the guest so the guest can be charged again… for the same reservation…

God forbid hospitality companies make any of their policies simple.

Few situations are trickier than navigating a child’s understanding of family, especially when the adults involved never realized there was any confusion to begin with.

This man dated a close friend years ago, but the relationship ended amicably when they realized they wanted different things in life. She wanted children, he didn’t. Despite the breakup, they remained friends, and when she unexpectedly became pregnant and found herself raising a child alone, he stepped up as a source of support.

Over the years, he’s become a consistent presence in the little girl’s life, helping with practical needs and spending time with her much like an uncle would. From his perspective, the role has always been clear. But during a recent pickup, he overheard the child telling another kid that he was her father. Concerned about the misunderstanding, he gently explained that he wasn’t her dad, but more like an uncle.

The conversation seemed innocent enough at the time—until he learned the little girl spent the night crying.

I (31M) used to date “Jane” (32F) years ago. At one point, the question of what we wanted out of life came up. She wanted a family, I didn’t, so we broke up on good terms and stayed friends.

Some time later, Jane ended up pregnant after a one-night stand with a guy at a party.

She tried to track him down, but couldn’t, so she was left on her own to raise the baby.

That night, Jane called me and scolded me for being cruel to the girl. Apparently, she cried all night because of what I’d said.

What was I supposed to do? Lie to her and say that I was her father? Jane said it would have been better if I had ignored it or even played along, but that seems crazy to me.

We recently completed renovations.

We informed the neighbours we would be renovating.

We gave our number to call us if they had any issues.

Instead, someone called the city dozens of times.

This man received information from the city about a neighbor complaining.

The city advised us that we had a neighbour “out to get us.”

They said if we follow all the rules, nothing will come from it.

Construction was completed without incident.

The city did generate a report in one instance, where it confirmed that false information was given.

Now, this neighbor was trying to invite themselves over.

Through this report, we were able to see photos submitted by the anonymous complainant.

It is clear whose backyard they were taken from.

Now, that we have moved in, the neighbour we believe complained keeps trying to invite themselves over.

They keep asking to come by to see the renovations.

How do we politely tell them to eff off?

Seriously? That’s a bit bold and awkward. Reporting someone and then asking to visit their house is wild.

I’d definitely keep my distance after that. Some people are never concerned… only nosy and jealous.

When you work in retail, it seems that annoying customers seem to pop up most when you are already stressed out or busy from other work.

That is what happened to the record store worker in this story after he worked a long and busy weekend due to the biggest sale of the year.

A customer had come in during that sale, but he couldn’t get the record that he wanted because it wasn’t available. The next day, however, he got an email saying that it was now available for online order if he still wanted it.

For some reason, this upset the customer, who was complaining that his trip to the store was a waste of time. Fortunately, the employee found a way to explain what happened, leaving the customer happy and the employee only slightly annoyed.

I’ve been working in retail for over a decade now, and recently had one of my all-time strangest interactions with a customer.

I’m sure all record collectors come out for this sale.

I work in a record store, and we’ve just had Record Store Day (if you’re not familiar, it’s a day where labels put out many special releases in limited numbers) on Saturday.

Incredibly, incredibly busy, borderline unmanageably so, but it makes the company a ton of money, so I guess we’ll be doing it forever. The tales I have of how grown adults behave towards staff on this day could be its own thread, but my tale is from a few days later.

Why would he be upset about this?

The phone rings, and it sounds like an older (though not elderly) gentleman.

He says “I visited your store on Saturday afternoon [an inauspicious start] and picked up a few Record Store Day titles. When I got to the counter, I asked about another title but the girl told me that none of your stores ever had it [not unusual; some titles are not released for every territory but can potentially be imported later]. Later, when I got home, I received a text from your shop [he means an email from the website] telling me that I could order it. Now, that’s not very good, is it?”.

Is this really worth calling and complaining about?

It had been a long few days, and I could sense that he was attempting to make a complaint about something that had happened but I wasn’t sure what, exactly.

I asked him if he could tell me again what his issue was. He recounts the same story, adding that he’s not happy he made a wasted journey to our store.

The record was never in the store, so what is there to complain about?

Now, I know the textbook customer service thing is to give a professional, insincere little apology but I was just too perplexed. I repeated his story as I understood it, back to him.

I’m thinking he’s perhaps confused about the email notification – maybe he thinks it means that the other item was in stock, after all. I check the system during his soliloquy and confirm that no store ever received the release he wants.

This was definitely not a wasted journey.

I reiterate this to him, as gently as I can, and suggest that if the email he received is inviting him to order the desired release, he should do that.

His response is, “but what are you going to do about my wasted journey?”. Again, feeling like I’m in some sort of hostage negotiation, I very gently remind him that he did, in fact, buy 3 other things he seemingly wanted.

Honestly, this is excellent customer service. He just doesn’t understand it.

And that this other release was never here, but he’s welcome to order it on the website if the email he’s received invites him to.

He says “well, I don’t think it’s very good service”.

Oh, so he just wanted to vent to someone?

I know I’m getting myself into dangerous territory as I respond “I think maybe it’s about a difference in temperament, because if I was a customer somewhere and I wanted something, but was told it wasn’t in stock, and then received an email saying I could order it, I’d be quite happy”.

Miraculously, I think I just about get through to him somewhat. He starts saying things like “I’m not trying to have a go, I love your store and just wanted to vent my frustration”.

At least he ends the call happy.

The phone call eventually ends after 20 minutes (he speaks very slowly), and I seem to have left him happy.

Now, I know he doesn’t know how insanely busy it’s been, how grown men have screamed in the faces of young women wearing lanyards because we sold out of a limited live Pink Floyd album, how the shop looks like a grenade exploded over the Pop section, how there’s discarded drink and food wrappers in record racks.

Sometimes listening to people vent is the task of a retail worker, I guess.

And I know that, to an extent, it’s my job to listen to venting customers. But it really did sap all my energy and patience and, I daresay, compassion for my fellow man.

Just for the rest of that day, I’m back now. Still not sure I understood his grievance, though. I may never know, and I’m okay with that.

It sounds like the guy is a good customer overall, even if he doesn’t understand exactly how the store works. Hopefully he won’t call just to vent again anytime soon.

Some customers just aren’t rational.

This is a great strategy.

It was easy to tell that this was an older customer.

This person got yelled at because new inventory came into the store.

He called in to complain that the system worked and allowed him to get the record he wanted. Kind of a weird thing to be unhappy about, but ok.

Dealing with tenants can be stressful, especially when the tenants are family friends.

This woman found herself caught in that kind of situation when her mother decided it was finally time to reclaim a rental property.

For years, family friends had lived in the home at a heavily discounted rate while they saved money to buy a house of their own.

But the arrangement lasted much longer than anyone originally expected, and now the woman, her fiancé, and their young daughter hope to move in instead.

Now, the tenants are pushing back on the timeline, and both families are wondering how this situation became so complicated.

AITA kicking our family friends out of rental for my family to move in

My mom is kicking out our family friends of the past 15 years for me, my fiancé, and our 1-year-old daughter to move into her rental. Our friends are a married couple in their late 40s with a 20-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter who have lived there for 6+ years.

When they moved in, my mom agreed to rent it below market value and never raise the rent while they saved up to buy a house in a few years. They stayed much longer than planned, and their rent is now at least $1,500-$2,000 below market value.

My family lives in a very small home in a not-so-great neighborhood, while my mom’s rental is in a safe neighborhood with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a huge backyard, and is much closer to family who can help with our daughter. It would be a huge upgrade for us.

His mother gave them plenty of notice.

Last year, my mom gave them a heads-up that we may want to move there in the future. They asked if we could wait until summer, and my mom said she didn’t think it would be that soon.

In April, we decided we wanted to move sooner rather than later due to issues with our rental. On April 11th, my mom called them and told them they would need to be out by July 1st, giving them 81 days’ notice, which is more than the required 60 days. They seemed fine with it and later received the official 60-day notice.

A few weeks ago, they texted my mom saying they had decided they wanted to buy a house instead of rent after realizing how high rents are and hoped to be moved in by July 1st, but didn’t want to rush into a purchase and asked us to wait.

They politely declined her plea.

My mom and I didn’t feel we could agree to that. We are both real estate agents and know how unpredictable transactions can be. It would have been risky to give notice at our rental based on their timeline.

We politely but firmly said no. She responded, “July 1st it is then.”

Last Saturday, my mom called to see where things stood. Right away, our friend was extremely snappy. When asked if they’d be out on time, she said, “Yeah, within a week or two of the 1st,” but agreed to July 1st when my mom reminded her that was the deadline.

Now, things are weird between them.

She kept going back to my mom saying last year that she didn’t think we’d need the house by summer. My mom also pointed out that she’d never raised their rent and had rented it well below market value, which was barely acknowledged.

The entire conversation left us feeling like they may not be out by July 1st. To make matters worse, today is June 1st and they haven’t paid rent, which is unusual for them.

I understand that moving is stressful, but I feel like 81 days’ notice was reasonable, especially since they knew this was a possibility.

AITA?
