Christmas is certainly the best time of the year! Sometimes, I wish time can bring me back to the time when I was a child minus all the homework and school thingy. I wish to be brought back to the time right before Christmas. I remembered snooping around in the middle of the night with my siblings trying to figure out what presents were wrapped under the Christmas trees for each one of us. That was really hilarious when I think about it now. How impatient and mischievous I was at that time. I was lucky because Santa did not seem to know about it.

My mom would be busy preparing our Christmas attire. She would take us out for Christmas shopping. She would choose for us though sometimes I found it a bit irritating because I had my own 'fashion sense'. That is really true. I designed my own skirts when I was young. I wanted to become a fashion designer but I am not destined to be one. Perhaps my future daughter would be one, who knows, right…?

Years have gone by. Time has passed and things have changed. I am a grown up now so as my siblings. We are still close with each other. Though everyone is busy with life and work but still Christmas is the best time for us all. This is the time when we get together enjoying conversations, remembering past, plotting the future and tying the loose ends.

This year things would be the same. We will maintain our tradition and perhaps we are going to add up a few more interesting things to be done together besides sitting down and chatting till morning. Perhaps some games like monopoly, poker, blackjack and some other popular games in Vegas would be great after a couple glass of wine. Maybe Vegas Online should come into the picture. Now, come to think of it, this sounds rather interesting especially when no one among us has ever step foot in Vegas yet. That is something that I am looking forward to be a part of the agenda on this year's Christmas!!! Hmmm... Can the Devil be a bringer of good luck?

Wine is life

I used to have an active nightlife on the weekend, without fail! Nowadays, I don't go to clubs a whole lot anymore like before (go out by 10 pm every Saturday night and would stay out till the wee hours of the morning), but just on occasion here and there.

What a night, what a night!!!!

As I grew older, things changed, little by little that I hardly notice. I found myself sitting at home on a Saturday night or spent the day fattening myself up. However, that does not mean that my life is completely boring and I should just stay at home punching myself in the face. Once in a while, I enjoy a relaxed evening out with exquisite food and a wide selection of good wines to enhance my taste buds. A great meal can become a fantastic meal if you have the right wine to drink with it!

I was told that Bajo Aragon wines are produced mostly from red and white Grenache, in most instances from centennial wines, with low yield but very high alcohol and tannins. Their Grenache whites are quite powerful, ideal for a fish casserole or a white meat dish. They are strong and full bodied; especially those which have been barrel fermented for a short period, creating an intense flavor of fruits with a very interesting border of oak.

The reds are rich, full of red berries and with long after taste. Excellent with casseroles, stews and all types of red meats. Ventus's wild berry and cinnamon aroma make it a delightful wine for everyday enjoyment!

There are a million reasons that would put a big smile on my face.

Here's one of them!

Monica is the author of Turn-u-Off which is a personal blog that talks about her life in general. She'll also blog about fashionable women's attire and products, too. She has been on Blogger since August of 2007, and currently resides in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Site Design and Layout

The header is cute which definitely fits the theme of a girl/woman's blog. The ads as well as other widgets on the page are nicely organized including the archived posts and links to other blogs. The white background makes the blog easier to read the content from. She's also one of the bloggers that uses emoticons on her entries which I've always found that it can give you a great idea for what she's feeling while typing out entries.

Navigation

All of her widgets are organized on the right side of the page where it is easy to find what you are looking for. She has links to those who comment on her site as well as recognition and appreciation for those who drop her a line the most. I like that she separates the comment and blog roll lists from the advertisements on her site.

Content

Although most of her blog entries are about her personal life, she has a way to make her readers relate to what she's posting about. Emoticons are often used as a way to relate to her, and she does very much post about girlish things, too. Inside the entries, she'll link to those who comment first on her blog, and she has a LinkWithIn widget to related posts, too.

Intangibles

Despite it being a blog geared towards girls and women, she does make herself very approachable to anyone. She very much appreciates your comments and visits, and will reward you for posting on her site often. You can follow her on Twitter as well as drop her an email as ways to contact her. And if you have an Entrecard account, she'll show her appreciation if you drop her EC a lot. She will visit your blog(if you have one) if you stop by, too.

Overall

The title couldn't be further from the truth with Monica. She'll frequently post very cute pictures of herself to go along with her talking about everyday experiences. The site is organized well and loads okay, too. She's an affectionate, friendly blogger to everyone. You can become friends with Monica, and then you'll see clearly that she won't turn-u-off!

After I got my hair done, we went shopping!

My new hairdo

Oh jeez we spent almost 12 hours in Bukit Bintang yesterday! Phew! 5 hours were spent ~~torturing my hair~~ sitting in the salon to get my hair done and the rest of the time was spent Christmas shopping, eating and camwhoring. Even though this was my first time in the salon (can't remember the name though), I felt very welcome. It is a friendly salon at Sungei Wang Plaza, with all the good-looking and highly-skilled male hair stylists. I would definitely go back! Well, it's definitely not because of the good-looking hair stylists. After a consultation with Joe, he helped me figure out what works best for me. He knows exactly what cut and color would suit me. Best of all his prices are very reasonable and he's a joy to chat with. He took time to talk about my hair before doing anything to it and took his time while cutting it as well.

I had my hair cut and straightened and dyed, plus a treatment! The result of 5 hours at the salon is enviably sleek and easy to maintain.

I love my hair! It is ridiculously soft and silky.

Now, I no longer look like a lion's mane when I wake up in the morning! Some women are happy to spend an hour on their hair in the morning. I want to only spend two minutes!

There is a certain smell in the air, fa-la-la-la-la~ Christmas spirit arriving too soon?

Christmas is less than a month away and I wait in eager anticipation of what this magical season may bring! I remember my childhood Christmas with nostalgia. It was a happy time when I received Christmas gifts from my parents and there was lots of food. We decorated our huge Christmas tree and our home with holly, lights, ornaments, trinkets, and twines of popcorn and candy canes. Special dishes like roast turkey, duck or ham served with cranberry sauce, plum pudding, pumpkin pie are served and enjoyed as a great family dinner.

Christmas decorations are such an important Christmas activity, which is worth mentioning as people dedicate a lot of time for Christmas decorations. Oh, don't forget to add holiday touches to your chandelier as it can bring a festive element to your Christmas decor. If you have a chandelier with curved arms going up to hold the bulbs, it's a natural. You can wrap a pine garland and weave it up, under and around. Then you can add sparkling beads and chains swooping from one light to the next, and hang ornaments from them.

Or, tie red bows at each "candle" point. If you can add a red cylinder below each bulb, it will be even more festive!

Hair loss no more!

As you can see from the picture, the permanent straightening (rebonding) gives me softer, silky, super straight hair. The thing is, I have really thin hair and it made my hair look flat and limp. Fine, straight hair is absolutely beautiful — if you have a lot of it! When it comes to hairstyles for thin hair, there is not a great abundance of styles to choose from. Besides that, rebonding can also leave me bald because it uses more toxic chemicals. Yes, I read an article about hair rebonding and it says it can lead to hair loss! Hair loss can be extremely difficult to accept and deal with especially for women.

I did experience excessive hair loss once due to medication side effects. I was on several medications to try to control an acute viral illness, dengue fever and I started losing my hair. I felt horrible! It was indeed very depressing and scary. After recovering from dengue fever, I came back to KL and immediately started looking for any treatments that could help me. I contacted my hairdresser and he suggested me to do a strand-by-strand non-surgical treatment. If you're experiencing hair loss, then this could be perfect for you! To make a long story short, I was so pleased with the results and the treatment that I received!

However, should hair loss be experienced after perms etc. then you should avoid them. That is why you have to scrutinize whatever you use in your hair since improper use of products may cause potential hair loss. So, maintaining the rebonded look means continual touch-ups, at least, every 6 months. This puts you at further risk of hair loss, eventually, and prematurely, leaving your full head of hair nothing but a memory.

Now, I am bored of my hairstyle and I want something new! I am planning on hitting up the salon next week. Hmmm... What hairstyles would suit me best?

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "Pasta"? Obviously, you'd think about Italian food, right? After all, pasta comes from Italy.

However, the Japanese have also adopted pasta by creating Japanese pasta. I'm not sure about you, but I've never heard of Japanese pasta. Okay, I'm a self confessed Japanese or Italian food lover but I'm not a pasta lover. It was Edward's birthday last Sunday and the pasta lover was seeking for an adventure of sorts!

#1 Pasta Zanmai, a Japanese Casual Pasta Restaurant which serves Japanese-Italian fusion food at its casual best.

Being a frequent visitor and shopper of the shopping mall, I can walk past this row many times and miss this restaurant completely, somehow.

My Top 5 Treat List

When I feel extravagant it might mean that I am inclined to acquire things as a personal reward for the work I have done. A nice hot bubble bath or spending time savoring the quietness of a secluded place either in my home or in nature can be more rewarding than something I bought. Taking special time will not only make me feel like I deserve to be self-indulgent, but also it will make me feel better about myself. While being self-indulgent occasionally is healthy, I might want to rethink the types of indulgences I give myself.

Since Christmas is coming up, let me share with you My Top 5 Treat List! Well, I have so many things that I desire and want for Christmas. Of course, that never quite happened and my attempts to be the world's greatest Christmas consumer never quite came to fruition.

Dear Santa, this year I've been so good that I should be the angel on top of the tree! There are some things that I would like for Christmas this year and I hope Santa will reply to me faster than reindeer fly!

My list is a mix of necessary, practical and don't-really-need-but-would-love. It includes:

1) Aladdin's Magic Carpet.

It can be used to transport me on it instantaneously or quickly to my destination. Imagine myself floating with the dancing wind, somewhere between the treetops and the clouds; there's no better way to see the Georgia sights around Atlanta than from my Magic Carpet...

2) The self-aware, super intelligent car known as KITT.

KITT's soothing voice that will greet me with various phrases such as, "Hello ~~Michael~~ Monica, where would you like to go today?"

This is the coolest car ever created and people will do anything to get their hands on it. The car has a supercomputer capable of hacking other computer systems, weapons, and its body can shape shift and change colors. Thanks to nanotechnology (and the magic of television). Plus, the car has artificial intelligence so it is the ultimate crime-fighting machine.

3) White Christmas.

I would love to wake up on Christmas morning and be greeted with a white blanket of snow! I am not talking about a "White Christmas" that your boyfriend gives you okay! I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones...

4) Spend a day with Paris Hilton.

Throughout her fame, Paris Hilton has often been compared to Barbie thanks to her slim figure, perfect wardrobe, blonde hair and obsession with the color pink. Overall I have to say that the Inspiron 13 is a visually appealing laptop with solid build quality. That explains why this small, light, highly efficient mobile PC is my next dream treat!

It's Sesame Street's 40th Birthday

Wow! It's hard to believe that Sesame Street has just turned 40 years old this year! I remember watching the show as a kid and I'd be captivated by the colorful characters on the screen. I think it's great that if it's still on and they change it to adapt to kids nowadays.

Ralph says his favorite character has always been Elmo and he can clearly remember some of the greatest episodes and episodes on everyone's favorite street.

However, my favorite character is Cookie Monster who notoriously demands cookies and devours everything in sight, an action accompanied by the satisfied sound of 'Om nom nom nom.' Even though I'm a little old for Sesame Street now I still love the furry blue dude!

Most of the guys I know are incredibly passionate about 2010 Volkswagen New Beetle.

However, my dream car is the 2010 Subaru Legacy which has been fully redesigned!

Highlights include a roomier and updated interior, more powerful engines and dramatic new styling. It also improves crash-worthiness and provides a stiffer platform for a smoother, quieter ride but retains the crisp handling and balance Subarus are known for. At first glance, there's no mistaking that the new 2010 Subaru Legacy is larger and more substantial. What's not to love? I hope to have this car forever! I love the look of it, it's a solid choice. Sadly, I am not in a financial position to afford one.

Yeah, I got a pair of boobies! Every woman's got a pair of boobies. Boobies are everywhere, in adverts, on TV and in mags.

But how breast aware are you? How much do you really know about breast cancer? Do you think you are aware of the latest news and information? Well, you're probably aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

MOST COMMON CANCER IN MALAYSIAN WOMEN

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Malaysian women and accounted for almost one-third of the total number of cancer cases among this gender.

A woman in Malaysia has a 'one in 20' chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime.

Yet not all women understand and can perform self-examination of their breasts and are willing to undergo regular breast cancer screening by trained health professionals.

Consequently, breast cancer is diagnosed in late stages in Malaysian women despite the availability of screening centres and education campaigns.

According to a Ministry of Health survey in 1996, only 46.9 per cent of women reported some form of breast cancer examination.

One reason why women have turned away from the screenings could be that the fear of men's rejection.

In a survey conducted by the NCWO, 65 per cent of men agreed that fear of their husband's reaction was a reason why women did not go for breast cancer screening.

The fact remains that breast cancer is the number one cancer killer in Malaysian women. Being diagnosed with cancer can be frightening. But understanding what's going on inside your body can help you be aware of what's causing your feelings of anxiety.
