Located between the towns of Tanah Rata and Brinchang, this English cottage-style hotel, which has a colonial ambience amidst the cool greens of Cameron Highlands, was originally opened during the Christmas of 1937 by Englishman Douglas Warin and it was called Ye Olde Smokehouse Inn back then.

Last year, we came here on Christmas Day.

I can never get enough of the view of their award-winning gardens that has many colorful flowers and small plants, resembling an English cottage garden as the blossoming flowers added an extra punch of color and livelihood to the place!

I took so many photos and I wish I could put them all up, but I've to go start packing now because I'm going home TOMORROW for 18 days!

I remember my first point and shoot camera as if it was yesterday, and I used to be perfectly happy with it. About two years ago, I took these photos.

Same place, same time of day, below are some shots that I took last week, after shopping.

The only difference is that I used a different camera. I thought the photos (see for yourself) were okay *facepalm* until the day I used the DSLR, which I wouldn't trade it for the world now!

Of course, there are huge differences between the little point and shoot cameras and DSLRs, but don't get me wrong. I don't blame the poor images as the result of my tiny camera. Point and shoot cameras can still make very good photos. That's probably just me don't know how to use the features on the camera that are there to help me get better photos.

Despite the exhibition being kicked off in KL on December 8th 2011, I put off going until last weekend (yeah, I'm a slow turtle), and I'm so glad I didn't miss the chance to catch a glimpse of the world famous Buddy Bears at Pavilion shopping mall!

First launched in Berlin, Germany in 2002 with the theme, "The Art of Tolerance," the United Buddy Bears World Tour exhibition also aims to raise funds for needy children worldwide.

Eva and Klaus Herlitz created the "United Buddy Bears" in 2002 and since then, it has traveled to more than 15 countries, and Malaysia is the first Southeast Asian country to be chosen for its tour!

I was very impressed with the artwork of these painted fiberglass bears especially the colorful ones and of course, these super adorable giant Yogi Bear look-alikes had me gawking and stopping to take photographs.

This Dragon Crystal Ball caught my attention while I was exploring the first-of-its-kind dragon-themed bazaar at Pavilion the other day.

So, I was told every home and office should have this, which is perfect for wealth creation and good fortune blah blah blah... and this must be placed in the east or west or south (Sorry, I don't remember which direction) of home or placed it in the wealth sector of your office (?).

To be honest, I'm not into Feng Shui and stuff like that, as I find it very confusing and complicated.

It's no wonder my wealth creation journey is going nowhere!

I was somewhat overwhelmed with an endless selection of strawberry desserts and drinks on the menu and it took a while to decide what I really wanted but decided on the strawberry strudel, their house specialty and an ice-blended strawberry.

New Year Countdown @ Tropicana City Mall

We loved the countdown action but not the pushing against hot sweaty bodies and shoving crowd, so this year we decided to bid farewell to 2011 and welcome 2012 at Tropicana City Mall's New Year's Eve countdown celebration.

The event was held at the mall's main entrance with various activities and there were live music band performances!

As usual, the New Year celebration will not be completed without fireworks display. As the clock struck 12, a spectacular display of fireworks lit up the skylines and Ralph popped on the 70-300mm lens, and happily snapped away!

This place was rockin', with a live band and some people who had clearly spent the last few hours drinking! It got rather loud, but the music was good.

Royal Lily Apartments @ Cameron Highlands

There are so many different types of accommodation available in Cameron Highlands, but during peak season, some hotels and apartments will be fully booked well in advance and last minute booking will not be possible.

We wouldn't take the gamble so we secured our stay at one of the apartments in advance for RM290 per night and 4 of us had a lovely get-together last weekend!

Royal Lily is an apartment complex located in Tanah Rata. The well-furnished apartment was very clean and could comfortably accommodate 4 to 6 people. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with water heaters, a living area, a dining area, and a kitchen, which was well equipped with complete cookware and cutlery sets as well as a refrigerator.

The ceramic tile floor was cold to step onto with our bare feet, but there were a few pairs of slippers for us to use in the apartment.

For me, the only disadvantage was that no bedrooms have attached bathrooms!

Overall, I'd say it was good value for money and I had a pleasant stay.

#4 The weather was super cold and windy at night! *shivering* I had two layers on top but obviously, I need to wear a lot more layers than that to keep me toasty warm.

#10 Located on the Titiwangsa Range at 5000ft (1500m) above sea level, the temperature here can drop to 16˚C at night.

The last time Ralph and I came here was about 4 or 5 years ago. Well, not much has changed, apart from the prospect of huge traffic jams due to the Christmas holidays! Despite the long and tiring journey, we had a great time together and the views of the tea plantation were amazing as always.

So, the best time to visit Cameron Highlands is during the off-peak season. We left Cameron Highlands on Monday night, reached home at 3am on Tuesday morning and I slept all day!

Christmas Weekend Getaway!

I haven't actually fully unpacked my suitcase, and yet it's time to start packing again for another 3-day weekend getaway, so I'd better be quick!!!

We (Ralph, our friends and I) are planning to beat the Christmas crush by hitting the road early tomorrow with goals of reaching our Christmas holiday destination, a verdant medley of tranquil countryside with stunning mountain views, soothing greenery and breathtaking scenery, before noon.

'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la! Whatever you plan to do over the festive season, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you ALL a very happy, relaxed Christmas and may your Christmas be like Santa Claus - fat, jolly and generous.

Love, kisses and plenty of mistletoe, see you all very soon, with an update about the road trip and whatnot on next Monday (or maybe Tuesday, depending on how the head is!)... exciting!

For some people, batik art may become their main source of income since they regularly sell their final creations. For me, it can be a spare-time activity or as a hobby where I keep them for myself. Also, who on earth would want to buy a painting from an unknown artist?

Waroeng Penyet @ The Curve

This is the second time we came here for dinner and each time has been packed with people occupying every possible table, but we were lucky to find an empty table!

The restaurant offers quite a bit on the menu, and we seem to have tried the bestseller, Ayam Penyet (directly translated means Smashed / Flattened Fried Chicken) only.

Ayam penyet comes with fried tofu, raw cabbage, a slice of cucumber and dollops of ear-tingling sambal (chilli) on the side.

You see, I've a love-hate relationship with spicy food. I typically do not like overly spicy food that will burn my tongue. However, it's the hot sambal, which complements the whole plate!

Ralph couldn't seem to get enough of their fiery, spicy sambal — and asked for more!

The sambal was spicy-hot enough to make my nose run like Niagara Falls but not so spicy-hot to make my eyes bleed. (Note: different people have different levels of tolerance for spicy food, so what is spicy to me might not really be spicy to you.)

It was, in short, an amazing meal, spicy and addictive. By the end, he was sweating and I was content. What a smashing meal at Waroeng Penyet!

This year, 1 Utama shopping centre decided to go with a nautical theme – underwater odyssey, which is different from the traditional Christmas decorations.

Check out their Christmas 'Splashing over the Big Blue' winter 'waterland', surrounded by giant-sized clamshells glittered in gold and silver, seaweed made from transparent fabrics and cartoon character-themed clamshells!

I love how much effort went in to decorating the shopping centre! Now, I'm thinking which shopping mall I should go next. So far, I've only been to the candy-land world @ Pavilion KL and the Christmas kingdom @ the Curve.

Anyhow, more importantly now... is to get some beauty sleep! It's a public holiday today, woohoo!

Little Taiwan at e@Curve

After taking some photos of the Christmas decorations at the Curve, my stomach started a revolution and I knew I had to look for a place to eat!

I was craving Taiwanese food, so Ralph suggested Little Taiwan for lunch. I figured, sure, why not since I've never tried HALAL Taiwanese cuisine before.

Special Stewed Rice Set (RM9.90)

Spicy Hot Ramen (RM10.90) - Given the portion size, I thought it was rather small for the price!

Lemon Red Tea (RM4.90)

Yam Milk Tea (RM5.90)

Well, the food wasn't that great, it was just alright and edible, nothing special. The only thing I could remember tasting good was the Yam Milk Tea.

Wow, only 19 days 'til Christmas, time seems to be getting quicker and quicker!

Last weekend, we hit the shopping mall to do some Christmas shopping in the hope of snagging the perfect gift for... myself.

However, getting in and out of the mall can be a pain at times and waiting in long queues was the most stressful part of festive shopping! *suffering from back problems after a day walking around the mall*

My Favourite Time of Year by The Florin Street Band

My Favourite Time of Year was written, produced and performed by Leigh Haggerwood who brought together a group of musicians that he called ‘The Florin Street Band’ especially for this popular Christmas single.

I found myself humming the tune all day! It's a return to traditional Christmas song with its heart-warming melodies and lyrics, and echoes of classic Christmas carols.

The Victorian-themed video that shot in a quaint English Victorian town really captured the spirit of Christmas and it was truly amazing, I was blown away by it!

Oh yes, it's already snowing here on TUO! 'Cause it's Christmas time and it's my favourite time of year...

The minute we stepped into Tioman Cabana, we became so comfortable that we knew we would want to spend the whole night here, and settled down for dinner.

Ralph and I had a great time getting to know the local people who managed the beach bar, and just about everyone else in the bar that night. They were really fun and easy-going, and the crowd itself was predominantly tourists.

After listening to Michael Bublé’s new album "Christmas", the stunning rendition of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is one of my favorites on this album!

Mariah Carey's version was jingly and jangly, whereas Michael Bublé’s is a slower, much more romantic and utterly dreamy.

As usual, his voice is as smooth and velvety as... a warm mug of hot chocolate!

Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza

Ages ago, I'd have died of depression if I had to stay home on a Saturday night. As time goes on, however, I'm now so domesticated that I find nothing beats home and my bed. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating becoming a hermit by any means but sometimes we all need a break from our busy lives and the theatrics of the weekend to shut down and re-charge the ol' batteries.

Anyway, while everyone was probably out partying the night away on one of the Saturdays, we settled in for a themed movie marathon and we ordered some pizzas! I don't usually crave pizza so much, but when I do, Canadian Pizza comes to mind.

3 Large 12'', Thin Crust Pizzas for RM59.90 (save RM55.70)

Mexican Fiesta
Ingredient: Spiced Lean Ground Beef, Onions, Red Chili, Jalapeno Peppers, Capsicum & Cheese

Seafood Delight
Ingredient: Tuna Flakes, Crabsticks, Tomatoes, Diced Pineapple & Cheese

BBQ Chicken Bonanza
Ingredient: Tender Chicken Breast, Fresh Tomatoes, Special BBQ Sauce, Capsicum, Onions & Cheese

By the looks of it, you'd think we had a pizza party! But no, all these pizzas were for Ralph and I.

We enjoyed every bite and after stuffing ourselves silly, we called it a night around 10 pm so that we could get up and be that early bird that catches the worm and destroys it, on a Sunday morning!

The 6th Year

I have not had a bad day in a long time, but yesterday, I had a shitty day and I felt like shit... argh! Nothing bad happened, but I was in a bad mood and I rather not talk about it or bore you with the details. Yeah, we all have had bad days but I'd not have thought it was going to be a shitty day, because it was our 6th year dating anniversary!

So, what did we do to celebrate our dating anniversary that fell on a Wednesday? I fell asleep at 6 pm and if I'm not mistaken, Ralph tried to wake me up for dinner a few hours later but I was too tired to open my eyes. By the time I woke up, it was already 2 am (!!!) and he was asleep, obviously. *guilt seeping into my thoughts*

Well, we can celebrate our anniversary anytime, any day, right? We have been together for 6 years, the spark may not be all shiny and new, but with work from both sides, we keep it alive and looking forward to many more years to come!

Bear-Bear, words cannot express the gratitude I feel when I think about what you have done and I want to thank you for loving me. You gave me an awesome gift (in my favorite color as well! ) that I'll enjoy for sure. Thank You!

In the meantime, however, I'm still looking for an anniversary gift, oops! Good thing you are better at forgiving me than I'm at messing up. Happy belated anniversary, will you forgive me again?

Christmas Wonderland @ Pavilion KL

We were pleasantly surprised to find Pavilion has transformed the Centre Court into Christmas Wonderland when we went there last Sunday for shopping, but I absolutely adore beautiful Christmas decorations!

Well, this shopping mall has never failed to wow with its innovative and beautiful decorations. However, there were always big crowds everywhere and every time I point my camera at a Christmas tree or a decoration, someone was bound to walk right in front of me.
