We bring what titles are coming out, all the details of who is behind the title, as well as a product description (courtesy of Amazon.com).

Along with new game releases we will also highlight the top five bluray releases each week that we feel will best suite movie and TV show fans alike. Obviously opinions will differ but this is our site dang nabbit so our opinion will be heard! This is region specific to North America.

This Week: The week many first person shooter fans have been waiting for. No, it isn’t Halo, it isn’t Half Life…it’s Call of Duty. This week marks the debut of the year’s most anticipated game, Modern Warfare 2. Coming at you in three different editions ranging from $60 to $150. If you don’t plan to pick up Modern Warfare 2 this week, you my friend are out of touch. Daring to take on what will be a 5+ million seller this month is a new Buzz! game from Sony, another Dragon Ball fighting title, and the highly acclaimed digital title Braid (via PSN).

On the non-PS3 front, for those who did not pick up the PS3 version of Pro Evo Soccer 2010 can do so on either the PS2 or PSP this week – but if soccer (or football depending on where you live) is not your thing we have a new Atlus game for the PSP and Dora the Explorer for you PS2 users.

On the Bluray side of things we have some excellent deals on UP and Monsters Inc – both of which are Pixar flicks meaning they are must haves. If you buy UP and Monsters Inc. together you can get $10 off your order total, along with $5 towards Amazon On Demand programming, and you can even add on another Bluray title and get $10 off. To sum that up you can get three bluray titles (two of which would be UP and Monsters) with $5 to spend on Amazon On Demand, and $20 off your order total. Not a bad deal at all folks.

Releasing alongside the Pixar duo are a handful of catalog titles – this week we feature Michael Mann’s drama hit Heat, a re-release of Watchmen that includes the Tales of the Black Freighter motion comic intertwined with the movie to get the full story experience. Finishing it off we have a sci-fi classic, Logan’s Run which in all its right is one corny piece of media but it’s corny enough to want to watch it. Plus it’s a PG movie with nudity – this was before the MPAA thought boobs were naughty.

DICE today announced that the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer beta will be exclusively played on the PlayStation 3. Starting November 19, PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to experience the unprecedented action, destruction, vehicular warfare, squad play and open sandbox environments that only Battlefield can deliver. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 provides a true all-out war experience like no other modern warfare game.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for PlayStation gamers to get early access to one of the most action-packed and polished shooters in the marketplace with Battlefield: Bad Company 2,” says Rob Dyer, SVP, Publisher Relations, SCEA. “We’re happy to help DICE achieve their superior level of multiplayer excellence in the game.”

Here is how to get into the beta initially:

For North America - Starting on November 10th, participating GameStop locations and Gamestop.com will offer a PS3 beta keys to customers who reserve the game, while supplies last. Beta keys will be available for both online and in-store customers.

For Europe and Asia – Nothing just yet folks

The Battlefield blog will post further details in the coming days on how to get into the beta. Seems right now the only way to get in is pre-ordering via GameStop. If you have already pre-ordered the game from GameStop, which you should have since the game is on our Top 9 Games of 2010 list, be sure to ask the store you pre-ordered from how you go about getting your beta key. Online pre-orders seek the online customer service.

“With Battlefield: Bad Company 2 we’re looking to raise the bar across all aspects of our multiplayer experience, setting a new standard for online play,” says Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2. “From the graphics to the vehicles, weapons and destruction, we are delivering the best online multiplayer game next year, and we want gamers to experience it themselves by playing the beta and demo.”

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer beta will feature the Arica Harbor map, where up to 24 players can compete in one of the game’s four intense multiplayer modes called Rush. This new map displays a superb balance of vehicle and infantry combat, as the American assault unit attacks the Russian army base with full force, advancing further through a beautiful desert town and towards the industrial area in a desperate attempt to overtake the Arica Harbor. Heavy vehicle warfare on the first bases gradually turns into an intense infantry fight as the level progresses, showcasing this best-in-class online war experience.

If you miss out on the beta, EA has already promised a demo of the game early next year. Needless to say we all will get a chance to get a taste of the game before it hits retailers. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be in stores on March 2, 2010 in North America and March 5, 2010 in Europe. The Limited Edition is available now for pre-order at participating retailers worldwide (while supplies last). For more information on the Limited Edition, see our previous coverage.

Follow the development team on Twitter at http://twitter.com/OfficialBFBC2. Chances are they will be handing out beta keys as well.

SYNOPSIS:

It’s no lie that Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest title to hit this year. In the same year of a new Halo FPS, Activision will have themselves another holiday to be proud of. Despite controversies, not only in the game’s topic of events, but also the marketing the game has received – it will sell big. It will break all the records the original set, and it will be the most played online game on all platforms (well, except PC – nothing will ever stop World of Warcraft). I give Infinity Ward and Activision credit; despite numerous opportunities for the game to receive backlash and hasty criticism – critics and gamers all over seem to want the game even more because of it.

One of the major complaints of the original game was the small length of what could have been an epic single player campaign. Let me re-state that. The single player was epic, but it could have gone on to be so much more if it weren’t cut short. Perhaps the reason for this is to keep gamers from getting bored. I must use the BioShock excuse once more – 2K proved you can make a 15+ hour single player campaign and still keep the gamer intrigued throughout. Infinity Ward has stated that gamers should not expect a longer single player campaign, it will be about the same length unfortunately. To quote them from a Game Informer article months ago:

“Stretching out the story seems like the wrong way to go,”
- Jason West, CCO of Infinity Ward, Source

If you read the whole article, it pretty much states that gamers should not expect the story to be any longer than the original, which is a shame because Activision has heavily promoted footage from the single player campaign. Despite the main appeal of the game to be based in the multiplayer – we have seen more footage from the single player than anything. It makes us to believe it could be an epic story, but how can it be told in just a few sittings?

We can’t judge the game from what we read or see, we need to play the game to get a better grasp of the actual details. As stated before, the appeal for this title lies in the multiplayer. The original was able to hold its own on all three platforms (and it dethroned Halo 3 on Xbox 360 – something no one expected), and has since inspired many changes in other first person shooters since then. The sequel will not disappoint those looking to shoot down their friends and a variety of strangers online. With new perks, new maps, new weapons, etc…the replay value is nearly infinite for those who can dedicate themselves to just this game.

Unfortunately Modern Warfare 2 is the latest casuality to “let’s announce DLC before the game even hits store shelves” virus. Dating back to earlier this summer when the game was STILL in development Infinity Ward announced DLC set for release in Spring 2010 (source). Understandably DLC was inevitable for this title, but to announce not one, but TWO pieces of DLC months prior to the game’s actual launch is a bit odd. It makes us question, was content held back? Even if the content was held back, gamers would be more comfortable if they announced the map packs a day after the game launches, because they might get the misconception the content was created post-development.

I seem more negative than positive here about this title. Let me say this right now, I want to play this game – it looks like it will have some great times during what is expected to be a short single player campaign – and for those who are fans of multiplayer I can see countless weeks wasted online with this title. I don’t want to show hate, but sometimes these developers just make it that easy to want to hate it.

It is also unfortunate that spoilers and surprises from the game have surfaced, ruining the full experience for the Modern Warfare crowd. To those who decided to ruin the game for the rest of us, we at TripleChat want to say, “F@!& YOU!”

We can’t judge anything until we actually play the game, and while this particular author may not be picking up the game day one you can bet a good majority of our members will be. Be sure to check out our forums when the game hits to meet, greet, and challenge fellow Modern Warfare 2 players. Until then…when does Activision plan to drop the price of the original Modern Warfare so I can pick it up and play it again? Shouldn’t it be a Greatest Hits by now?

See next page for the variety of buying options for this game (three different editions!)

The Madden Ultimate Team game mode will be available free for Madden NFL 10 in January. NFL fans can experience the new game mode by creating a team with the provided starter pack of players and other virtual cards, and jump right onto the field. Madden NFL 10 and an internet connection is required for play.

One of our criticisms found inside our Madden NFL 10 review was that the game featured too much premium content. It is nice to see we are being treated some free content – and the mode doesn’t sound all that terrible. What do you think of this?

Codemasters today announced that the first Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising downloadable content – the ‘Skirmish’ pack – will be available for PS3 very soon along with title update that will fix current issues found inside the game.

The ‘Skirmish’ video, which you can view if you scroll down a wee bit, demonstrates the breadth of exhilarating new content. Players are shown going head to head in attack helicopters, deploying tanks and APCs and engaging in ranged and close quarters combat in the wide ranging new maps and missions featured in the downloadable content.

The ‘Skirmish’ DLC features four new multiplayer maps and two new Fire Team Engagement (FTE) missions featuring both solo and four player co-operative play. Hunt down SAM launchers hidden in the sprawling complex of ‘Lumberyard’ and assault dug in PLA forces and fight room to room in ‘White Fang’, two tense new ‘Infiltration’ multiplayer maps. ‘Annihilation’ multiplayer maps pitch armour and infantry against each other in rolling battles across a valley in ‘Stomping Grounds’ and in ‘Force Dispersal’ military bases separated by a strategic hill become a close-quarters killing ground.

New FTE missions include ‘All Round Defence’, which places gamers in control of air support and attack helicopters as they defend a fortified complex against relentless waves of PLA. In ‘Uphill Struggle’ players must capture a bunker under heavy fire from hillside reinforcements. Gamers can also recon the entire 220 km² island of Skira alone or co-operatively in a range of vehicles at day or night in ‘Island Tour.’

We recently just got our copy of Operation Flashpoint so we hope to dive into it soon. It’s hard when we just began our run in Uncharted 2 and remain addicted to Need for Speed: SHIFT though. Brutal Legend is also thrown in there a few times.

PlayStation 3 owners, the wait is almost over! Soon you too can run, jump and bend time, as Hothead Games announced today that it will be digitally delivering Jonathan Blow’s Braid to the PlayStation Network in North America on Nov. 12 with a European version to be announced shortly thereafter.

Explore the human condition and manipulate time as our hero Tim leaps onto the PlayStation Network in the lush, painterly world of Braid, a puzzle-platformer that takes you from a house in the city on a journey through a series of worlds to solve puzzles and rescue the princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, including the ability to rewind, create parallel realities and utilize time dilation to overcome the many obstacles in your path. There is no filler in this game; every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world.

Key Features:

Untraditional platforming. You can never die and never lose, but challenge is always present and focused on solving puzzles, rather than forcing you to play and replay tricky jumps.

Puzzle-rich environment. Travel through a series of worlds, searching for puzzle pieces and solving puzzles by manipulating time: rewinding, creating parallel universes and setting up pockets of dilated time. The game play is always fresh and new and the puzzles inspire new ways of thinking.

Aesthetic design. A painterly art style and lush, organic soundtrack complement the unique game play.

Nonlinear story. A nonlinear fiction links the various worlds and provides real-world metaphors for your time manipulations; act out these themes at your own pace, exploring playful “what if” universes.

Forgiving game play. The game doesn’t force you to solve puzzles in order to proceed. If you can’t figure something out, just play onward and return to that puzzle later.

Braid has been rated “E 10+” for Everyone 10 and older by the ESRB. No price has been announced, but best guess is $14.99 to match that of the price on XBLA. Whose picking it up?

BioWare and EA announced today that the highly-anticipated game Dragon Age: Origins is now available on the PlayStation 3, amongst other platforms – as originally detailed in this week’s Retail Scoop. Originally delayed then pushed back up – anyone who has a console that isn’t a Wii can give this game a go. Dragon Age: Origins introduces a dark and gritty approach to the fantasy genre where players must make ruthless decisions and be willing to sacrifice their friends and loved ones for the greater good of mankind. Several downloadable content packs are also now available, including Warden’s Keep, The Stone Prisoner and the Blood Dragon Armor.

“The launch of Dragon Age: Origins is the fantasy event of 2009,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group at EA. “I am extremely proud of the entire development team – and we’re all very excited to release one of our best games yet!”

BioWare has also launched a robust package of downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins. The Stone Prisoner gives players access to new environments, items, hours of additional gameplay and the mighty stone golem Shale who can become one of the most powerful party members in the game. The Warden’s Keep (check out the trailer below) premium DLC provides players of Dragon Age: Origins with a new dungeon-exploring adventure, new loot including a set of ancient Grey Warden armor, a chance to gain two of six mysterious new abilities, a new base complete with merchants and a party chest to store their hard-earned items. In addition, BioWare has released the Blood Dragon Armor DLC, a set of themed armor that gives players additional protection in combat.

In Dragon Age: Origins, players take the role of a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians. Now, as a rising evil threatens to destroy all life, it is up to players to unite the shattered lands and slay the corrupted dragon known as the Archdemon. On this journey, players will need to make critical choices that affect them and various members of their party.

Good deal right? New release for under $52 on what is probably one of the candidates for the game of the year on the PS3 side of things? Bet you already bit on this deal…because you should have. After all, you read that week’s Retail Scoop right? Tekken 6 was going for $44.99 that week, another big release on a big discount.

Well like Tekken 6 before it, Amazon has dropped the price (temporarily) of R&CF: A Crack in Time to $49.99. It gets better…the $5 coupon is still floating around to get your grand total for this 1 week old game down to $44.99! That’s right, you can get what is easily one of TripleChat’s most recommendable games (and hell we haven’t even played it yet) for $15 off normal MSRP.

Everyone’s favorite intergalactic duo is back with Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, developed by highly-acclaimed developer Insomniac Games exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. The latest addition to the best-selling series will at long last answer some of fans’ most-asked questions as it concludes the story arc from Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty.

Players can control both Ratchet and Clank as they attempt to reunite and save the universe. Each will have new abilities at their disposal such as Ratchet’s Hoverboots, which allow him to travel at high speeds and soar to new heights around the galaxy. With all-new Clank gameplay, players can utilize special time-manipulation abilities in an effort to thwart Dr. Nefarious, one of the franchise’s best-known villains who is attempting to control time itself.

In this follow-up to the best-selling series, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time puts players into the role of both Ratchet and Clank as they attempt to reunite and save the universe. Along the way, both will finally uncover the hidden truth behind their origins and discover their ultimate destinies. As the duo come closer to reuniting, they’ll have to ask themselves the biggest question of all: Do Ratchet and Clank’s destinies lie with each other? Or is it finally time for the universe’s greatest duo to separate for good?

Whose picking it up at this price? $45 for the latest R&C game? Count me in! For those who bought the game from Amazon already – try shooting them an email to see if they will honor it. Even though Amazon discontinued their 30-day post-price guarantee a year or so ago they usually have been pretty reliable in matching a discounted price within 1-14 days after release if you contact them via email or phone. No guarantees though – it is based entirely on luck really.

Electronic Arts has announced that it will be releasing a new downloadable content pack for Fight Night Round 4 in early December for all platforms. The DLC pack will retail for $9.99. Named the Game Critic Awards “Best Sports Game of E3 2009”, Fight Night Round 4 has been winning over reviewers since its release on June 23rd with its realistic graphics and genre defining physics-based boxing engine.

In addition to including Bernard Hopkins, Sonny Liston and Evander Holyfield as playable boxers, the DLC pack will also include two all-new game modes. The first, Old School Rules brings a new take to the traditional boxing experience, while the second, Ring Rivalries, allows you to re-create some of the greatest match ups in boxing history.

EA has also announced that they have reduced the suggested retail price of Fight Night Round 4 to $39.99 in North America (was formerly $59.99).

This game has been rated T for Teen by the ESRB, and 16+ by PEGI. For more information, log onto http://fightnight.easports.com.

Seems kind of odd the game has already dropped $20 in such little time. It sold well on initial release but with a decrease BEFORE the holiday season suggests sales may not have been as stellar as EA was anticipating. Fight Night is not alone in dropping in price so fast since it’s summer release – many other titles have dropped even faster. Whose picking it up for $40? Who plans to shell out $10 for the DLC (in which some of this content should have been in-game to begin with).

We wonder, will this be another 100kb DLC pack (which suggest the content is already on the disc but lacks an unlock key) or is this truly DLC? We’ll find out next month.

This Week: May not be the most anticipated week but certainly a week that packs a punch on both games and movies. Big releases this week includes the once-delayed but now back on track Dragon Age. BioWare’s debut on the PS3 (and only their second title on the PlayStation overall is set to come out this week and like any major EA published release, is also receiving the Collector’s Edition treatment. For fans of soccer (or football depending on where you live), FIFA 10’s biggest competitor Pro Evolution Soccer hits this week.

Joining dragons and Ronaldo this week are two new music titles, one from Activision with Band Hero and the other from Harmonix with Lego Rock Band. Both are appealed to the casual crowd as they step outside their original “rock” roots. If music isn’t your thing and if you have yet to pick up the original, LucasArts is re-releasing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed with three new levels (one being exclusive to the game) alongside other DLC. Speaking of Star Wars, a new Battlefront game releases as well but like the previous release – it is on the PSP. Joining Battlefront: Elite Squadron on the PSP is Ghostbusters (which has been out for a few months on PS3 and PS2), and the newest Jak and Daxter game (which is also on the PS2). With Naughty Dog not tapped on the project and with it not being on the PS3 we suspect the latest Jak and Daxter is appealed to only the most hardcore of fan of the series.

Finishing up the games this week is a basic dinosaur FPS from Activision that is probably a clone of Turok and for those who have yet to get a PS3, you can get the new Slim model with a 250GB HDD for $350 this week. It is taking the place of the premium 160GB PS3 model that came with Uncharted.

For Bluray this week we have the summer’s second best grossing flick (the first being Transformers: RotF), G.I. Joe. Other new releases include the remake Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and the first complete season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. For catalog releases we have Forrest Gump hitting high def and the entire Rocky collection!
Product Description: As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 250GB system features an IBM “Cell” processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 250GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit’s smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 250GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 250GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet.

Product Description: “Stupid is as stupid does,” says Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance) as he discusses his relative level of intelligence with a stranger while waiting for a bus. Despite his sub-normal IQ, Gump leads a truly charmed life, with a ringside seat for many of the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, meets Richard Nixon, discovers the break-in at the Watergate, opens a profitable shrimping business, becomes an original investor in Apple Computers, and decides to run back and forth across the country for several years. Meanwhile, as the remarkable parade of his life goes by, Forrest never forgets Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), the girl he loved as a boy, who makes her own journey through the turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s that is far more troubled than the path Forrest happens upon. Featured alongside Tom Hanks are Sally Field as Forrest’s mother; Gary Sinise as his commanding officer in Vietnam; Mykelti Williamson as his ill-fated Army buddy who is familiar with every recipe that involves shrimp; and the special effects artists whose digital magic place Forrest amidst a remarkable array of historical events and people.
