A man and a woman were arrested by the Tomball Police Department (TPD) Jan. 28, after detectives said they were caught accepting a USPS package full of marijuana.

Tomball police get new four-legged partner

Officers of the Tomball Police Department (TPD) have a brand new partner, thanks to a decision by command staff to re-start the K-9 program.

Hektor, a two-year-old German shepherd, has joined the force and was assigned to his new handler, Officer Juan Barrera, in January. Hektor has been trained in narcotic detection, but plans are to eventually allow him to serve as a tracker as well.

Magnolia schools dominate district swim meet

District swim meets were held all around the area recently and the District 19-4A meet at Montgomery saw both Magnolia high schools dominate the competition.

The Magnolia West squads came in first place in both the boys and girls team competitions, while the Magnolia girls placed second and the Magnolia boys placed third.

Rotary announces Students of the Month

The Tomball Rotary Club announced its February Students of the Month at the regular luncheon Feb. 1. Tyler Pavlas (left), is a senior basketball player and National Honor Society while senior Lacey Easley was recently named Miss Tomball 2012 and is also a National Honor Society member. Both will be heading to Texas A&M this fall.

Former Waller Mayor indicted for pollution

A former Waller Mayor has been indicted by a Harris County grand jury, for an alleged water pollution incident at his Waller lube shop.

Paul Wood, 58, of Waller was charged with three separate counts of water pollution, after the grand jury heard evidence alleging that he dumped industrial waste from his Lone Star Lube business into the city of Waller’s sewer system, Jan. 30, 2009.

Fish return to Burroughs Park

The fish have returned to the lake at Burroughs Park near Tomball, as recent rains brought water levels up enough to restock.

Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle was on hand to help restock the lake Feb. 2, which only a few months ago was nearly dry.

MHS football honored for sportsmanship

Former Doyal contributor fined by TEC for corporate donation

A complaint filed with the Texas Ethics Commission (TEC) against a Magnolia area business, has been resolved with a fine.

The TEC has fined Grand Oaks I Limited Partnership $550 for a violation of election laws prohibiting donations from corporations. The donations were made to Montgomery County Commissioner Craig Doyal’s campaign. The amount of the fine levied was the same as the amount of the original donations.

Ex-Tomball banker receives prison sentence

A federal judge has sentenced a Tomball woman to 18 months in prison, after she pleaded guilty to one count of bank theft last November.

Kim Arnold, 57, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Lynn Hughes and also ordered to pay over $140,000 in restitution.

Federal prosecutors indicted Arnold in June of 2011, after they discovered she stole nearly $150,000 from customer bank accounts, while she was senior vice president of Sterling Bank. According to court documents, Arnold

Tomball NJROTC holds battalion inspection

Tomball High School senior and NJROTC Battalion Commander Eric Schaffer (center), senior and Battalion Guide Austin Meyer (left), and senior and Battalion Executive Officer Jared Lovelace (right) led the battalion’s Inspection Pass in Review. During the event, 145 students were divided into eight platoons. Each platoon demonstrated drills while following a sequence of commands. Each platoon also took part in a uniform inspection.

Mitzi is a 7-week-old female shepherd mix. She was found walking down the side of the road on SH 249, near Magnolia. The puppy was more than likely dumped, because she was in good shape, had no fear of people and is crate trained. Mitzi is a sweet, loving, cuddly puppy who loves attention. She will follow you everywhere and always wants to be picked up and give kisses. Mitzi is in a foster home at this time, so an appointment is needed

Way back before the land of time, I mean cars, people used to travel by horse and buggy. Several hundred yards west of the FM 2978 bridge over Spring Creek, Bogs Gully intersects with the creek.

The location where the gully meets the creek is called "The Bogs Hole." This spot used to be the Sunday afternoon gathering spot for local folks. They could picnic, swim, pitch horseshoes and the like.

Magnolia keeps on track as girls basketball heats up

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs stayed undefeated in district play, after two recent victories.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Spring Woods Jan. 20 and ran to a 27-9 first period lead. While the pace slowed down following the opening run, the lead kept growing, as the Lady Bulldogs took a 55-17 win.
