The Traveling Door's Take on Turquoise

The set up has begun but there is much more to come.

The Traveling Door is celebrating it's fourth birthday this month.

It was over multiple glasses of wine back in 2007 that the five of us pulled together our concept of creatively going green by repurposing tired or dated household items and furniture and selling them at a traveling venue. We have never looked back.

In fact, we have expanded our concept to include new pieces, textiles, jewelry, and baked goods.

Each of us has a different style and take on artistic creativity and as a result just about every taste is represented here.

That means, there is also something in our various repertoires for just about any look you might be going for in your home.

We are starting to pull some of our creations together over at the shop - 3023 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE. If you get a chance you might want to drive by and peek in the windows to see what is already there.

As we were setting up it was exciting to see the rainbow of colors emerging.

Turquoise seems to be another prevalent hue this season.

We thought you might want to get a few sneak peeks

of our take on this tempting shade.

If you were driving around the South East side of Cedar Rapids today

you might have noticed some activity at 3023 Mt Vernon Road.

We were given the key to our newest venue and the women of The Traveling Door

didn't waste any time.

We placed our "Mascot Door" prominently for all to see and thanks to Ms Henderson

we have some great signage in the windows too.

We even placed a few of the first pieces in the windows so that people unfamiliar with our market will get a glimpse of some of the various things we do.

The Garden Chair has so much charming detailing.

I was infatuated from the moment I saw it.

What a fun way to add a little flair to your garden, yard or porch.

Did you notice the Happy Chicks?

These fun little stuffed birds of happiness are the perfect addition to any spring vignette or centerpiece.

The Traveling Door Fall Show 2010

Things have been crazy busy for the women at The Traveling Door.

I had hoped to post one more time before the show and feature some of our gift ideas but I still haven't learned to pace myself.

I needed another day in my week to get everything done.

That said, we had a great time.

We had furniture:

This was the only picture I had of the desk. I took it with my phone and I was having issues with the flash and the overhead lighting. The only way to remotely save it was to convert it to black and white but the desk was painted black with white numbers so it looked a lot like it does here.

Sneak Peeks - See You This Thursday

The best part of being the person that writes the blog is that I get to see a lot of what will be at The Traveling Door sale ahead of time. I'm so excited about what the ladies are creating for this go around that I just had to give you a sampling of what you will find.

I stopped by Kathy's and was awed by her door candy creations. Here are just a few.

Kathy uses only the best florals and stems. The artichokes are an unexpected surprise.

The simplicity of this one is great. That and the fact that it is kind of seasonless.

She has an eye for detail and I love how she wired in these corks.

Then I got a sneak peek at Lynn's handbags for this season. They are some of my favorites yet.

I could plan a whole wardrobe around this one.

I love the ample pockets and the whimsical lining.

This would make a fabulous summer bag. Each of these designs are one of a kind.

It really is nice knowing you won't see your bag everywhere.

The key tab is a great feature.

Looking for something that will hold everything? She has you covered there too.

Animal prints are big this year. You really should have one.

There will be perennial favorites like Sally's Spirit Women.

I have thought about recreating some of my own for two years now and finally got around to it.

I have had too much fun pulling these together for you.

Hang One Up and A Sweet Treat At The Traveling Door

Less than three weeks to go until The Traveling Door sale and the ladies have been busy. We all got together on Thursday and I was so inspired by what I saw that I wanted to share a few more images with you.

I love these vintage padded hangers that Jan has embellished with ribbon and trim.

She even thought to trick them out with these fun buttons to keep those pesky spaghetti strap tops on the hanger and off of the floor.

Green, pretty, and functional too.

Kathy brought me some samples of her amazing Cake Truffles and Brownie Bites. If you have been to a Traveling Door event before you will remember these delectable treats. Our sale is the Thursday before Mother's Day and these tasty delights would make a nice little something extra to add to your gift for Mom.

They come packaged as a set of six and are available in chocolate, lemon and coconut.

This time around she is also offering something new ... Brownie Bites in assorted flavors.

I was treated to Chocolate Heath. Mmmmmmmm, heavenly.

For the last couple of shows Jan has created some fun doggie bowls and toy boxes. They fly out of the door. Here is just one of several she has done for our May 6th event.

These can be customized with your pet's name or in colors that coordinate with your home.

Looking for that unique one of a kind touch for the corner of a room or entry way?

Check out Sally's contemporary totem.

This 6' sculpture is rather heavy so when Sally brought it over in her jeep we decided to just take the pictures out in my driveway. Even though it looks great outside this is NOT an outdoor piece.

It was rather difficult to get a decent picture that time of the day but just look at the amazing detail work here.

Sally's totems look fabulous when grouped with plants and give that unique contemporary flair to a room that you are looking for.

Creativity In Full Swing

Yesterday the women of The Traveling Door got together for what we call Therapy Thursday. Thursdays are the day we come together to create together, encourage each other and share the stories of our lives. We got together on this day at our favorite rendezvous spot, Jan's studio. I was glad I took my camera so I can share with you the space that is Jan. Along with many other things, Jan has been working on some gorgeous pins for our May 6th show. I couldn't resist taking these pictures of her work space.

I found her array of vintage buttons and jewelry embellishments amazingly impressive to say the very least. Where does she find all of this stuff?
