Salient features of TK's translation

Preserves the meaning of the original text in tact.

A passing reference or an indirect mention about something would also be translated, if it is contextual.

Redundant words(mostly anachronic)in the Source Text may not sometimes exist in the Target Language.On such occasions a cultural substitute will be used.

Refering back to the same individual or an entity in the source text will be translated only in the natural forms of the target language. The target audience/viewers are always borne in mind while choosing appropriate vocabulary.

If the target Language is English and some portions of the Source text is in English, it would appear verbatim in documents and in the case of subtitles, it would not appear in subtitles.If English source is also to be displayed in subtitles,clients may please specify the same.

If a word in the Source text is borrowed from another language,TK would strive to find an equivalent in the target language,and in the absence of finding an exact word, the original word would be used in the Target language text (example bungalow-Bungalow is not an english word.It is a borrowed word from Bengali)

It is always difficult to translate metaphors literally.Metaphor is an expression used to refer to something that it does not literally denote.They are just a figurative comparisons.Hence they should not be understood literally. To help the viewers/readers understand this,TK has devised a scheme of showing metaphors in blodface in documents and in italics in subtitles.

Sometimes the culture of the source language may be distinctly different from the target language.In such situations TK prudently uses a cultural substitute.

Colloquial and informal form of spoken style words are always language and region specific.Such words mostly may not find a place in translation,unless other wise there is an equivalent informal word in the target language.

Idioms are unique expressions to each language. They can not be understood by the meaning of the words in the idiom.(example -You have hit the nail on the head) Smilar idioms will be translated with equivalents and should be looked upon only content wise and not verbatim.

Irony -They are caustic remarks mostly sarcastic or satirical.It is a ridicule rather than a compliment.TK takes care to translate only the original intent in the source langauage text.

Subtitle translation is different from normal document/text translation.It is not a literal or verbatim translation of what is said.Most of the time, it is an interpretation of what is meant.More than that it must be condensed to normal reading speed without losing the contextual gist.Hence sometimes lengthy and non stop dialogues have to be condensed.But TK ensures coherence at such instances.

If relevant to the story all text images and sign boards are translated and incorporated wherever possible.Similarly dialogues in background by perepheral characters or songs heard in background are translated if it is relevant to the story.

Many times an effective translation of a colloquial vocabulary becomes difficult for a subtitle translator.Many colloquial usages are slangs and taboos in normal written language style.On such occasions TK finds a word that is acceptable to the target audience.

TK considers three parameters important for deciding subtitle text length.Rhythm of the film,Speaking rhythm of the actors and audience reading rhythm.

Time coded Subtitle text files for DVD,Blue Ray Discs,Beta and Digibeta tapes.The essential pre requisite for time coded subtitle text file would be a time coded video.

We charge 100% advance upfront.
