Ti’s that time of the year again, the first halfhearted snow is falling in London, and the shops are still empty, trying to attract custom with all sorts of deals. The unseasonal hot weather has been blamed and winter clothes are selling at a discount. No proper sales on yet, it’s a tug of war, see who lasts longer, the consumer or the retailers. Seems like most shopping has been done online and red vans with men rushing around with parcels stamped with Amazon all over them were common where I live.

Of course, the late shoppers may have to hit the shopping malls and high streets, worried their Christmas presents won’t arrive on time. So, we may see a last minute rush on retail, but overall not looking great. Investors like to buy equities in the run up to Christmas, expecting the traditional Santa Claus rally, of course this may not happen, and I don’t really care, perhaps a spiritual Christmas as opposed to ‘let’s spend all our available credit‘ on a load of bollocks is not a bad thing.

Personally, I am not buying into any rally, with more and more bull coming out of the ECB and the Eurocrats, mud slinging and France slagging the UK etc. All I trust is small scalps. Scalping the DAX, scalping the Euro and even the CAC now. Some of these trades become swings, but the majority are for a few small pips at a time. Do it enough times, mercilessly cutting any trade that is not immediately in profit, and it all adds up. For currency scalps I am using LMAX as the spreads and commissions are very low. For indices I use various spread betting firms, and at the moment Worldspreads are offering a £300 cashback and zero spread for bigger accounts.

The belief in the Santa Claus rally is like all beliefs, false. One belief is no better than another, you either observe and know or you act like a sleep walker, and the markets are not kind to sleep walkers, so wake up, observe and don’t fear reality

All in all, I wish you all a happy Christmas, I won’t be trading much next week as I am busy setting up some property deals and the pre Christmas market is often thin and treacherous. Whatever you do trade lightly and stay focused.

I don’t know, but loved this video from Nigel Farage addressing the Eurocrats dominating Europe and discussing the issue of German domination. I thought we’d been there before, not liked it, had millions murdered, tortured and displaced, not nice methinks.

So, what now, a Fourth Reich forming. Europeans are being shortchanged by a bunch of unelected bureaucrats and now by unelected governments, looks like some European countries are taking the places of Lybia and Iraq, talk about flipping pendulum swings.

Anyway, watch Nigel say it as it is.

 Forex News Trading

News Trading is what got me started in Forex, prior to that I traded NASDAQ shares, commodities and option strategies (I still do the last 2). The thing about news trading is that an immediate and often aggressive move  is guaranteed as the news is released. This used to be easy money, get hold of the software (I used to use SNW) and set it up to auto click the buy or sell as it calculated the deviation from the expected figures. On one account I quadrupled my account in several weeks and consequently the broker asked me to close the account.

This was then, now I’ve not been spike trading for a while, the brokers no longer filled me and every man and his dog was on the case. The main problem was that most would attempt to get filled with a market order, this saw some software users getting filled right at the top of the spike by some old stop or limit ores and subsequently losing their pant. So, the only way to trade news now is with limit orders and I understand that News Trade Sniper not only has the ability to set limit orders on the broker, but also to analyze the spread and if it gets too wide, abort the trade. An aborted trade is better than a severe hosing, so in that sense I’m cool with it.

News Trading

News Trading! That’s what got me into Forex in the first place, until I discovered news sniping, I was trading NASDAQ equities and option strategies only (I Still do the latter, for credit spreads only).

I joined a news trading room with some Canadian dude and did really well with it, then I joined another trading room run by Felix Homogratus (what a character !) and did well there too. These trades were all manual and were based on listening to the news results and making a fast decision as to whether to short or long, it was still possible then, but of course now, it’s all done by software, so forget about manual entries as the numbers come out.

It is still possible to get in on retracements and to fade the spike and I do that all the time, but getting in on the number has become nigh impossible.
Now, there is a new company that has set up a News Trades Sniper and they will be running a trading room to facilitate the subscribers, they claim that haven’t had a losing month in 2 years and so I think it may be an idea to test it out. When I was using SNW (Fast economic news software) I did so well that I quadrupled my account in 2 months and a well known City (London) broker asked me to close my account down. As usual the brokers were taking the opposite side of the trade and were being shaved with a blunt blade and no flipping foam.
So, for news sniping you will need a good broker, and you will probably need more than one as some will re quote you, some will slip you and some will try to fill you at the top of the spike (if you use a market order). Recently I have switched to LMAX as their spreads are very low and commissions dirt cheap. But the main reason is that they are fair, they never take the other side of the trade, you are filled with what’s in the book and you can see the book. LMAX is a CFD broker so not available in the US. (See full review here).

I also use a spread betting account with a zero spread (yep, you heard that right), catch is that the minimal deposit for that is £5000, however your first £300 loss (should you be daft enough to lose that much) will be refunded, yada yada. This account is with Worldspreads.
Both brokers are regulated by the FSA and I have spoken to their managers, both are recommended.

Note: I am not saying that the above brokers will fill you on news spikes, just that they are fair and decent brokers.

Countries like Greece, Portugal and Spain rely heavily on tourism to their great beaches and historic relics, however, at the current Euro exchange rate, who can afford these places? My holidays are spent in good old Blighty, with global warming, I’ve had some pretty good

holidays here, in the good old United Kingdom. Yes, we used to go to Italy, France, Greece and Spain, but since Euro mania started, we haven’t bothered. Even skiing is cheaper and better value in the US of A.

So, no surprises the Greeks want a referendum, and why not, a return to their own currency, Drachma or any other name they want to call it, will suit their economy, bring back the tourists and let Greece recover nicely. Same applied to the others, in fact, I’m surprised that Ireland hasn’t kicked more of a fuss, but early days still.
What has this got to do with my type of trading? Not much, I admit, except that the volatility makes Euro Scalping easy, and 1 in 3 or 4 trades becomes a nice swing too.
So while the world is waking up to economic reality, we simply do our job like everyone else, and try to do it well.
